For our spoof ad, we created an anti campaign around the popular e-cigarette company Juul. Juul markets mainly to adults for a “safer” alternative to traditional cigarettes. However, they have evolved to be more appealing to children because of the multitude of flavors. Adolescents think that vaping, using e-cigarettes, is considered cool or hip and have become attached to the nicotine and the lifestyle. They are however, highly addictive and bad for your health. New studies have found that e-cigarettes are just as harmful if not more harmful than traditional cigarettes for the environment from the pollution of second hand smoke. The image depicts a Juul with pair of damaged lungs around it. The Juul is down the middle to double as an esophagus and spine to show that people are so addicted to vaping that they are too dependent on it at this point. The severely damaged lungs are there to emphasize the impact that e-cigarettes have on a person’s internal organs. Our slogan is “NOT CUUL” written in puffs of smoke. Young users have taken to doing tricks with the smoke that they breathe out for friends or at parties. It has evolved to be something that the popular kids do and to be popular you have to do it. The elements or art that our ad has would be: lines to show the lung bronchioles; shape to make the lungs and juul; color to show the damage done to the lungs; texture to show the puffiness of the clouds and the roughness of the lungs; and space to show perspective. These elements come together to convey the ad’s message to the audience.
