#anti keefe sencen

okay, so i already said i don't like keefe, but i want to expand on the fact that him getting all these books of development and NOT developing is so annoying when amazing characters like linh, tam, biana, marella and fitz are all sidelined is so annoying.
his whole family drama was focused on in neverseen and then could have been drawn out in lodestar when he runs away, and then in flashback, we get the vackers, but in sooo much more depth because they're so intricate, and then we get more of the diznees because two chapters in book six was not enough and linh and tam talk about how they're dealing with all that happened in nightfall with their parents, and marella's storyline with her family is expanded.
but instead all this falls to the background and we get constant repetition of sophie worrying about keefe when all these characters have minor lines about all this every now and then.
like, stop focusing on him!!! give me fitz and biana explaining how it was to grow up in a family that expected perfection and always feeling like they were failing only to have their brother betray them all instead of just hinting at it every now and then and moving on, give me linh and tam working through the fact that they were abandoned by their parents and society for something out of their control and continue on from what started in nightfall, give me marella discussing the stress of how everyone views her family. even dex has been sidelined, the boy sophie calls her best friend, and his family are so tragic and interesting. why weren't they given more time to develop???

It’s okay to not like Keefe, Sophie, or Fitz. Just because they are complicated doesn’t mean you have to like them.
People have opinions
People have biases
Stop with the stupid “You wanted complicated characters but couldn’t even handle Keefe/Fitz/Sophie”.

so i'm almost halfway through my reread (done with neverseen) and as i've been reading i've been making a list of every single question in the series (the answered and the unanswered).
so who wants to see my massive list of questions from kotlc once i'm done. it's turning out to be pretty fucking long and i'm only done with the first four books so far.
(i've also been making a list of all my least favorite keefe moments and why i do not like this character, so i guess who wants to see that as well.)

I'm only halfway through Stellarlune but the fact Sophie is like "Keefe would be an awesome boyfriend" like... no?
He keeps hurting her, sometimes literally, because he doesn't trust her with his plan, then the plan goes wrong because it was stupid in the first place (remember how he left to infiltrate the Neverseen which was reckless and stupid and didn't work and hurt her? He just left with one letter without saying where he was going, to one of the most dangerous places of the planet for an elf, with no way for his friends to find him and no help in case he was attacked?)
I'm not saying he's a bad guy. I'm just saying he's not able to think straight when Sophie's safety is at stakes and it leads him to decisions that end up hurting her or part of the team (remember how Fitz got put into a coma?). He would SO not be a good boyfriend.
A good friend? Doubtful, but I can understand that she enjoys his compagny. A good boyfriend? God no.

If Keefe were replaced by a lesbian with a cool name the keepers books would be good actually

Keefe when he finds out about Fitzphie: Sophie isn’t a prize and her feelings are valid. I’m am going to be there for her as a friend and help her through the matchmaking drama despite how much it hurts me.
Fitz when he finds out about Sokeefe: “You kissed him? You didn’t even kiss me that hurts so much *wah wah wah*
And that, my friends, is why Sophie Foster chose the right guy.

I am seething. I hate Cassius so much. The abusive slime ball has the freaking audacity in Nightfall to give Sophie the information she needs to save her human family on two conditions: He gets to be in the Black Swan and Keefe lives with him again.
No. Just no. He shouldn't make Keefe chose between being abused by him again and Sophie losing her family.
Not only that, but Cassius is part of the reason the Black Swan are an organization: to stop the myth that the Elven world is perfect. Why else would no one stand up for Keefe against his abusive parents, but Sophie, raised by humans, was able to instantly tell that Keefe was in an abusive home after seeing how they treated him in public? Because elves don't want to admit they can be capable of horrible things like humans too.

There’s literally no one in Fitz Vacker’s life who’s ever chosen him first. His parents chose his family name and status (and if you believe the ‘Alden is the leader of the Neverseen’ theory, that) to the point of putting him in danger from as young as six, KNOWINGLY. Sophie and Keefe have always chosen each other, Biana has her own friends, as does everyone else. Alvar chose the Neverseen over his family even if he died for it. I don’t even know what to think about this tbh, it’s the fact they almost all have people who would put them first except Fitz and that’s so sad to me.

okay so this may be a little biased because i really don't like keefe, but am i the only one who thinks that he's become almost too much of a main character over the past few books to the point that it feels like shannon favours him and his story over sophie???
like i get that his mother is a member of the neverseen and he was experimented on and that's super important and also kind of a cool parallel to sophie, who was also experimented on and has a mother on the council, but the way he's slowly become more and more “loved” in both the fandom and by the author over the MAIN CHARACTER is really not a good thing??? AND him being elevated makes me so mad because shannon is just neglecting all these other incredible characters. we had keefe dealing with his family for a couple books in neverseen and lodestar and after that i expected it to still be mentioned but for other characters like dex and biana to develop their relationship with sophie and their arcs better, but then keefe kept going through this drama with his parents and it got a bit repetitive—especially with him running away AGAIN because he thinks he's doing the right thing, only to come back like one book later and have learned nothing.
he's also just really annoying, and not in the teenange way like everyone else. him and ro make me want to die and throw my book across the room.

this is probably annoying, but keefe is selfish and a bad friend.
this isn't about fitz, or even shipping, by the way.
it's annoying that keefe doesn't have actual accountability for the things he's done. sophie forgave him really easily right at the beginning of book 5, and it sucked. she should have been ashamed, afraid, angry, resentful, SOMETHING. but instead she only came to his defense, and the only thing emphasized in that book is his trauma (at least in regards to him as a character). there comes a point where what you did/do is something YOU have to take responsibility for, even if you have been hurt.
overall he takes his friends for granted, and it isn't ever portrayed as a FLAW, let alone as indicative of him really needing to get the heck away from these 'friends'.
he discounts tam's trauma, he lets ro talk crap about fitz for no other reason than shipping, he brings up sophie's (and other people's) emotions to use them to get involved in things he wouldn't otherwise- that's an intrusion of their privacy. a decent empath who actually had empathy for others wouldn't bring them up (but then the question is the morality of these talents....)
it is interesting to look at him and his father- in the human world, empaths are typically associated with valuing the feelings of others and making sure they're happy- it would have been interesting to see sophie's human perception be shaken by the elf one, and the way literal empaths behave.
but that isn't what happened, and no one in the series calls it out. instead, keefe is portrayed as a fun, messy (but in an endearing way, certainly not a problematic way) sweetheart, perfect for Y/N sophie (again this isn't really about shipping, but about keefe)

in general, i take a more neutral to negative stance on sokeefe, for several reasons.
first off, i haven't read stellarlune yet, so that might change my mind. i'm not against spoilers so i do know stuff.
okay, so sokeefe feels really unhealthy to me. sophie cannot rely on keefe, and her relying on keefe is really important! at the same time, you cannot tell me keefe has a healthy vision of who sophie is.
sophitz is also okay for me. it's definitely healthier (and better!) than sokeefe to me, but it doesn't satisfy the ship itch, so...
anyway, onto problems with sokeefe.
(technically stellarlune spoilers i've picked up)
sokeefe is relatively... interesting. they're not at a space or at a place where they can be a realistic healthy couple.
plus, i don't think keefe is ready at all for any romantic relationship. sophie is undoubtedly not ready. didn't she break up with fitz like a month ago?
i know fitz's feeling don't matter but imagine you and a girl break up, right? and then your best friend/former best friend (neither of your know which it is) starts dating her like a month later. idk about timelines but there's something about this that just feels... insensitive? wrong? both.
idk, neither sophie or keefe is ready for sokeefe, and even so, it feels really disrespectful to fitz too. yes, i know he doesn't really matter, but at the same time you have to take a step back and think about other people's reactions to your relationship.

keefe is my least favorite kotlc character and even i know that he was not "basically waiting around for sophie and fitz to break up" during legacy. like. don't spread misinformation about a character just because you don't like them. especially when there are other valid criticisms to make about the character or their actions.

i’m not afraid to say it, the series would be better if keefe hadn’t been added. i love the fanon version of him, but it’s so clear to me that the publisher made shannon add him to help the book do better because his type of character, the “oh i make jokes to hide my feelings” type, is popular
