George Harrison, whom I was very close to, told me a story when I was fifteen. It was about two frogs. He said they both fell into a pot of milk, and one of the frogs, a pessimist, gave up straight away and drowned. The other frog kept trying to jump out, even though he failed again and again. He tried for so long that eventually all his jumping and swimming churned the milk to butter, and he was able to jump neatly away. I don’t always believe there’s going to be a happy ending to every event in my life. However, I act as if there might be, as without that shred of hope I wouldn’t keep on trying, and a sad ending would therefore become a self-fulfilling prophecy.

09.06 | Happy Birthday to the incredible Anoushka Shankar.
I was watching what I like to call the "fam jam" scene of E8 (apparently a bunch of it was cut out. rude) and paused here. Thought it was a sarod, got very excited. Decided to double check and not be overconfident. My excitement doubled.
This was well over a month ago when the piece had its genesis, seeds were planted, call it what you wish.
Cut to earlier this month. The Desi LGBT Fest is announced, I realise day 9's prompt fits far too well. Though I must stress, 'Rise' was not written for the fest in the least.
(make of that what you will, moderators, do with this post what you wish! thank you for organising this all the same!)
Only get to working on this a few days ago.
Become utterly drawn into the world of Hindustani Music and introspect a great deal while I'm at it.
And voila, this takes form.
Should you choose to read, however, please read through all the tags.
Take care and feel free to reach out!

Song Review: Norah Jones with Anoushka Shankar - “Traces of You” (Norah Jones is Playing Along)
Ten years after releasing “Traces of You,” Norah Jones and Anoushka Shankar reconvened in a studio to play it again.
The sisters - their father is Ravi Shankar - re-recorded the track for the “Norah Jones is Playing Along” podcast. And though piano and sitar may seem like strange companions, Jones’ earthy notes and Shankar’s ethereal accents make for a warm blanket of sound as Jones sings:
Traces of you linger like a teardrop/fresh upon the air/play me like a rain cloud
All family reunions should be so harmonious.

Q: “What did you learn musically from [George] Harrison?”
Anoushka Shankar: “Patience. We worked with a choir on Chants of India. But the recordings were difficult. The choir didn’t sing the way we had imagined it. I was totally irritated and ranted and raved that the entire choir should be kicked out and that everything had to be approached differently. George stayed calm. He simply adjusted his music to the choir and everything worked out. George took me aside later on and told me the story about the optimistic frog and the pessimistic frog. Both fell into a bucket of milk. The pessimistic frog drowned because he gave up immediately. The optimistic frog pedaled until he had turned the milk into butter and was saved. That impressed me.” - translated from ZEIT, 5 April 2016

From 'Rise' to 'Rest' | 09.06.23 and 28.03.24
In continuation from:
Title: Rest
Word Count: 6809
Category: G
Main Pairings: Faruq/Dhruv, Yusuf/ Afroz, Shabbir/OC
Piece Summary:
Faruq’s words came back to him now,
Woh um, Tuesday. March ke 28th ko. Hum log woh same raat Srinagar se nikal gaye, Thursday ko Delhi pe rukna pada. Aur hum tab se yahin hai.
He was pulled away from his contemplations at the insistent vibrating of his phone again. Minutes later, Saba’s confirmatory text came through on the group and Dhruv switched out to his chat with Faruq immediately after seeing Didi’s response, her relief and gratitude clear.
If you choose to read, your feedback is always appreciated.
Much Love,
Dhyan x
