I genuinely obsess over the relationships between marauders era characters. But my favorite obsession is Regulus’ and Sirius’ relationship with each other, and other members of the Black family. Because the complicated family trope has me in a chokehold.

I'd like to know more about your version of the other Death Eaters, especially Rabastan since you've mentioned him a couple of times.

I would love to, anon, but that would mean sharing a hefty part of my eighty-two (82) page long Google document full of headcanons and plotlines and characterizations for a fanfiction that is never going to be finished. :) I don't know if you've noticed but the gift of synthesis escapes me. So I will keep this to the bare minimum, otherwise, we'll be here all night.

Rabastan... I am a sucker for fucked up family dynamics, and my characters (and views of characters) always happen in cycles and parallels. So Regulus, Rabastan, Andromeda, all suffer from Younger Sibling Inferiority complex: the lesser versions of their elder siblings. They all live in their counterpart's shadows. The thing with Rab is that more than Sirius, and maybe even more than Bella towards the end of their story, Rodolphus would lay down the world for Rabastan. Bellatrix is probably the only person Rodolphus loves more in the whole world (and even that is, at times, debatable).

I have so many headcanons for him and his childhood and his relationship with Rodolphus, but part of me actually wants to wait because maybe, one day, I will actually publish something. I just know that at a certain point, they had a falling out between the two of them and it took them years to fully heal their wounds. But they are so loyal to each other.

I also hc him as being absolute besties with Bellatrix. The three of them - Rod, Rab, Bella - are close in my mind, but Bella & Rab are closest probably because there is less conflict there (neither brotherly nor romantic). Also, they have the same chaotic energy at times (Rab more than Bella). My man is Roman Roy coded - the hyena laugh, the weird sitting positions, the fidgeting (whereas Rodolphus is perfectly poised, all the time), the strut, the nasty jokes. That is precisely how I describe him.

Also vaguely effeminate (but these are Voldemort's nasty thoughts):

Bi. With a preference for men. I am a big shipper of both Rabastan/Regulus and Rabastan/Barty (and also Barty/Regulus, because the fucked-up-ness of the whole thing is raging in my mind). And yes, the age gaps are iffy (because he has a seven/eight-year-old gap with Reggie, and Barty is a year younger than him, which is Not Okay).

He overcompensates for everything because Rodolphus was the heir, the golden child, who always got everything he wanted in the end. So he's nastier. Over the top. Crueller. He's arrogant, jealous, and resentful, but.

Rabastan, deep down, was still a little boy: on alternate days, he could be insufferable or incredibly likeable. He was reckless, self-centred and utterly without conscience, but also funny, enthusiastic and attractive. Underneath layers and layers of gratuitous cruelty, he had a certain compelling fragility. He'd show it rarely and then it would be gone in a blink of his incredibly long eyelashes. Once you saw it, it was impossible to look away.

I'll stop here. Because I said it would be brief and it's not and they're calling me for dinner. But I have so many (more) things to say.

What are some headcanons for Marauders / golden era people??

Common things like Peter, Marlene and James being childhood besties, Panodra and Evan being twins etc are very dear to me but i want to talk about some spesific things that are not being talked about.

-I think Barty suffered from anti-social personality disorder (someone with antisocial personality disorder will typically be manipulative, deceitful and reckless, and will not care for other people's feelings.) Most of the time he didnt even understand why people were upset or mad at him. Regulus, Evan and Pandora were the only people in his life to help him through this and understand his behaviour.

-ı talked about this in my fanfiction recently but I think Sybill being a half-sister to Lestranges is a perfect head-canon. We should give the girls background stories as well.

-Frank was James's gay awakening. He just was.

-Marlene was a terrible driver.

-First established relationship was not wolfstar. It was pandalily. Because pandora was close with both gryffindors and slytherins she practically built the bridge between them.

-For Barty the hat stalled between ravenclaw and slytherin. He wanted to be in slytherin as his childhood friends were already there.

-Mary and Emmeline met through their mutual love for fashion. They were the trendsetters at their year.

-Narcissa was what Andromeda was to Sirius to Regulus but their friendhsip lasted shorter as they grew up.

-Peter was the jokesmaster among the marauders. He wasnt good at plotting pranks but he'd drop jokes that made the others cackle all the time. If not a gryffindor, he'd be a hufflepuff.
