Madame K, after John Singer Sargent's Madame X
details, progress, and notes below
Sargent is one of my main art inspirations. I've always wanted to do a master study of his iconic portrait, but decided to add a Star Wars spin to it ✨ I love painting Kleya and thought she would fit with this portrait! her dress by Michael Wilkinson is so elegant and iconic. I think the description of the original painting also fits her well: "Sargent shows a woman posing in a black satin dress with jeweled straps, a dress that reveals and hides at the same time." I thought it was an interesting choice that Kleya's red, "disguise" outfit stands out more than her gallery one, while Luthen's outfits are the opposite. almost like she's hiding in plain sight.
I kept the ring as part of my Kleya/Luthen AU.

@andorappreciation week - underrated characters: Kleya
A few months ago, I painted this modified master study of John Singer Sargent's Madame X to be Kleya instead. My framed print from Canvas Champ arrived today in time for appreciation week and I thought I would share ❤️! This is 15 x 30" in, the Andor poster for scale is: 22.375 x 34" in
I think Kleya is such a compelling character and I can't wait to see more of her in season 2! This is my favorite artwork of this year, and I wanted a framed one similar to the actual painting.
If you're interested in purchasing one in the future, here's the interest check:
[Madame K - Gold Framed Canvas Interest Check]
Thank you for all the support! I still plan to make this available on my InPrnt later down the line.
Edit: Now available on InPrnt - Link

Luthen of Coruscant
(Sargent series 2/-)
details, notes, process
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I loved painting Kleya's portrait so much that I decided to turn it into a series!
most of Sargent's subjects were upper class and royalty. I hc that Luthen is not actually part of Coruscant's upper class (ie. he wasn't born into a wealthy family). I think he purposefully chose the cover so he could vicariously experience what it feels like to be part of it.
in film, gloves often symbolize that a character has something to hide.
