Halloween-themed Story: Keiko and Robby solve Crimes on Hammerville

Keiko was busy discussing anything to do for the month of October with her trusty friend, the little dark-skinned, dark-haired andblue-cloaked wood-elf Robby Hide. "I have heard that there have been strange things happening among the residents of Hammerville," said the elf, "and I want you to asses those problems for yourself and use your best skills in diplomacy to solve them."

And so the sorceress opened a magic portal for her and her little elf friend to enter the town of Hammerville. It was nightfall, a soft downpour of rain pelted the narrow cobblestone streets, and the half-timber shops and houses were dimly-lit by rows and rows of pale green and yellow lights. Hammerville thus seemingly looked like a quaint place to live and work in from the outside, but from the inside, its social life turned out to be quite contorted...and twisted. Everywhere Keiko and Robby could see that the town's resident vampires and werewolves were having bitter feuds with each other.

Keiko saw that one particular vampire was accused by the werewolf community of stealing bottles of blood from his werewolf neighbor. "Blood is the only thing we vampires drink," Gordon said to the two companions, "and Harold stole my precious bottles of blood!"

"Are you sure you are stealing Gordon's only drink of sustenance?" Keiko asked Harold the werewolf.

"No...I only wanted those bottles of blood to give to my aunt, who is suffering from a great loss of blood..."

"Because of what?" Keiko asked.

"...because of an attack by a angry vampire who thirsted for her blood!" Harold replied.

"How shocking!" Keiko said.

"How were you able to get those bottles of blood in the first place, Harold?" Robby Hide asked.

"I was only able to receive those bottles of blood...from the work of my own sister, who happens to be a truly generous donor."

"So you were the one who was stealing the bottles of blood to sustain yourself, weren't you, Gordon?" Keiko asked Gordon.

"Um....yes I was..." The vampire replied. "Trust me, Harold was not the one who stole my bottles of blood...I was the one who stole the precious bottles of blood from Harold's sister!"

"If that is the case, you shall now be punished for this crime of yours..." Keiko said. And with those words the sorceress stretched out her arm, opened her hand upon the vampire's head, and in a binding flash of blue light the vampire's arms were bounded by a magical pair of iron handcuffs that glowed a bright shade of blue. "No!" Cried Gordon. "You can't do this! I'll starve to death if I don't get any more bottles of blood to feed myself!"

"Then try drinking some pig's blood, if you want to survive now..." Keiko conjured a bowl of pig's blood out of thin air and forced it into the vampire's mouth with a beckoning gesture of her hand. Gordon started drinking the blood in a quite feverish-yet-reluctant state, since the pig's blood was not as juicy to him as the blood of a man or a werewolf.

And with those words, Harold and his werewolf neighbors sent Gordon the vampire into prison upon Keiko's orders.

Afterwards, Keiko and Robby Hide ventured deeper and deeper into the other hamlets of Hammerville, looking for more and more problems to solve. Soon they were walking thorugh a small forest of huge, imposing willows with gnarled barks and naked branches, and the dark sky overhead was becoming increasingly tainted by a swarm of clouds that had an increasingly reddish hue.

"It looks like something dark and evil is festering in this town," Keiko said to Robby, "Something which unnerves me quite deeply."

"What is it, Keiko?" Robby asked.

"I think there have been growing fears in this place that the vampires and werewolves who once lived peacefully with each other for decades are now increasingly blaming each other for each others' problems."

"Why are they acting like that somehow? And why is it that they are not relying on any uniformed force to maintain the peace here?"

"I believe it may have to do with the fact that the two sides simply believe that they could just take justice in their own hands without having to rely on any higher authority...and that unfortunately has led to their feuds repeating on a neverending cycle. Such feuds have emerged whenver vampires attacked werewolves, and oftentimes I believe it is the vampires' thirst of blood which often leads them to attack werewolves for their blood...and in turn the werewolves must have retaliated against the vampires in the most aggressive ways imaginable."

"Like with instances of individual werewolves attacking vampire families without the vampires themselves knowing it?"

"Yes, indeed, Robby," Keiko replied. "Deep within the gnarly, kraggled woods that surround this town, there must be wild animals that the vampires could kill for their blood...and that way they won't always have to depend upon feuding with werewolves for their blood."

"I see, Keiko...And it looks like we need to be extra careful now that we are heading ever closer into the more crime-ridden parts of Hammerville."

Soon the two companions approached the house of a short, hairy hobgoblin and a certain eighteen-year-old girl who happened to be quite tall in stature. She had pale, blue eyes and short, golden hair, and she wore an orange t-shirt and a pair of light-blue jeans. "I am Samantha," Samantha Rockwell to be exact," She said to Keiko and Robby. The sorceress and the elf made themselves at home in Bob's house, and they sat on yellow sofas and discussed with him the news of Hammerville's vampire and werewolf feuds in front of the fireplace with his adoptive daughter, all the while eating grilled sausages together.

"We both perceive that your town is becoming an increasingly unruly and violent place to live, " Keiko said to Bob and Samantha, "and we are looking forward to doing our best to solve the mysterious crimes that have arisen among the townsfolk here every now and then."

"After all," said Robby, "We both hope that there should be a police force made of peace-minded volunteers that can be called upon to restore peace and order in Hammerville some day."

"What a great idea, little elf!" said Bob the Hobgoblin, "Then our town's crime rate might go down the sewer if that's one of your suggestions."

"And can I become the captain of such a police force if it becomes a reality?" Asked Samantha. "I wish I could use my expertise in problem-solving and decision-making to help bring justice to my town with my own hands-or paws, for the matter...after seeing all the pain and suffering that has been inflicted upon my fellow werewolves and vampires as of late..."

"Oh, you're too young for that, aren't you, Miss Samantha?"

"No, I'm not!" Samantha replied, jokingly. "I've just turned eighteen a few months ago, and being one of the biggest, strongest werewolves here in Hammerville makes me a competent crime-fighter too!"

"Okay then, if that is what you strive to be from reading all those comic-books of yours some day..." Bob said.

"Of course, Bob..." Samantha smiled. "I've been reading them ever since I was nine...And I still love my comic-book heroes, heroines and villans to this day."

"So you see, Keiko and Robby,"The Hobgoblin said to the sorceress and the elf, "for many, many years the quaint town of Hammerville has always been a peaceful place were creatures of all kinds could live in harmony with each other. But very recently the vampires and werewolves have increasingly become inimical with each other for mysterious purposes. I tell you now that there have been incidents of vampires killing werewolf puppies for their blood, and the werewolves themselves have responded in kind to massacring entire vampire families as a warning that the vampires should not commit such crimes again...which in turn has led certain rogue bands of vampires retaliating against the werewolves in some very gruesome methods which I cannot describe myself..."

Samantha bared her teeth and snarled, much to the shock of Keiko and Robby, as she slowly rose up from her yellow sofa. "The mere mention of the vampires who savagely killed my parents for their blood just wants to make me face them head on with tooth and claw!"

With these words the furious girl stood up with her back, head and knees bent close to the ground and gradually morphed into a huge, imposing figure in front of the sorceress, the elf and the hobgoblin; her hands and feet turned into huge paws, a furry tail sprouted from behind her back as a coat of silvery-gray fur grew out of her clothes and white skin, her rib cage widened considerably as the muscles of her arms, legs and neck thickened, and her head took on a monstrous, lupine shape with pointed ears and sharp, yellow fangs, albeit with the blue eyes and strands of short, blonde hair of her human form still intact.

"What have I told you about controlling your temper, my dear Samantha?" Bob cried as he tended to the half-unconscious werewolf and use his long, hairy arms to bring her up on her hind legs.

"I shouldn't have lashed out my primal fury on our new guests like this, Bob..." Samantha sobbed. "I should not have done so!" She hugged the hobgoblin as a few tears trickled down from her eyes, much to the emotional

"It'll be all right, Samantha," Bob said. "Just take a few deep breaths to control your temper, and you'll be okay."

"All right, Bob..."

"I will use my expertise as a ranger or scout of sorts to help you track down the criminals who have killed your parents," Robby said to Samantha.

"And once we've brought justice onto those vampires," Keiko added, "I will probably use my healing magic to bring life back to your parents if their bodies are ever to be found, Samantha." Keiko added. "That way you'll never have to go through this dark time of grief and suffering ever again."

"Oh, really?" Said the werewolf.

"Yes we will."

And with these words the hobgoblin bade farewell to the sorceress and the elf as they escorted Samantha out of his house and down onto the winding dirt road between the rows of ominous willows in search of the criminals who killed her parents. And once they reached a large hamlet that was situated outside the woods, Keiko and Robby were able to help Samantha locate the three vampire murderers, whom the sorceress fiercely interrogated on the reasons for the deaths of Samantha's parents. Then with the use of her staff, she pacified them all with a blinding spell of red light that resulted in the vampires being tied together via a magic red rope and forcibly deprived of their sharp, white fangs, which Keiko gave to Samantha for safekeeping. Then with the werewolf's keen sense of smell, Keiko and Rob were able to discern that the vampires had buried the bodies of her parents, which still remained in their human forms and fortunately had their blood intact, in a grave a few miles away from the borders of the hamlet. Then the sorceress placed her hands upon the foreheads of Samantha's mother and father, whispered a powerful healing spell that led to a radiant, white light emanating from her hands, and finally brought life back into them. Samantha changed into her human form, hugged her living, breathing parents, and was finally able to reunite with them, much to the joy of Keiko and Robbie. Once the latter two told Samantha's parents about how they helped their daughter bring justice onto their vampire murderers, the Rockwells led the sorceress and the elf back into Bob's house, where the entire ordeal that Samantha went through was discussed at length with the hobgoblin as they had dinner together in front of the fireplace. Afterwards, everyone played a fun game of playing cards before they slept, and after a breakfast of eggs and bacon on the following day, Keiko and Rob finally bade farewell to Bob and the Rockwells and left their house under a sunny, yet partially-cloudy late-morning sky at ten'o'clock as a couple of crows cried and flew overhead.

Keiko and Robby continued to solve more and more of Hammerville's mysteries for the rest of the day. Once they punished a hulking, male werewolf for the crime of mercilessly devouring the children of a prominent vampire family for food one day, and once they punished a vampire for the crime of stealing some valuable goods from a certain werewolf couple. But day by day, and also with the use of a few magic spells and the generous suport of a few reason-minded townsfolk, the sorceress and the elf were gradually turning the Town of Hammerville into a safe place to live for werewolves, vampires, hobgoblins, and the like...until at last they used a magic portal to return to their home just before the week of Hallow's Eve, and the Rockwells, remembering everything that Keiko and Robby had done to stop their society's blood feuds, created a new volunteer force made of justice and order-minded vampires and werewolves to police the town in their honor.
