you know what, i’m gonna just say it out loud: i like larry butz as a character and think he’s actually really interesting for both his approach to life and what it throws his way as well as his relations to the rest of the cast. he offers a really unique perspective to every situation he’s in and is literally the linchpin that solves like 4 cases and we still hate him and treat him like the cartoon relief in a children’s animated 3D movie? disgusting, we don’t deserve the Butz

thinking a lot abt mary and joseph and particularity how joseph deals with mary going out. it’s obvious that mary feels insecure in her marriage. going on two dates with joseph and triggering the walk mary home sequence makes this clear. what we learn about mary too lets us know that she hasn’t ever gone home with anyone. that she’ll return home every night ( or at least nearly every night, i imagine she’s crashed at robert’s or maybe even damien’s before )
there’s been nothing to suggest that mary has ever cheated on joseph. this can be disputed and argued depending on ur definition of cheating, but for all purposes rn; mary hasn’t physically cheated on joseph, or sort of attached herself deeply emotionally to someone (more on this later). she’s remained pretty faithful, despite excessive flirting. and tbh the flirting is mostly used as a manipulation tactic to get free drinks or at least some kind of attention she’s obv not getting at home.
but i wonder if joseph ever feels insecure? i feel like at some level he cares for mary. he reacts negatively when mc criticizes her at the bake sale. but is that a negative reaction to how mc feels about mary or more just that his perfect life saw a few cracks? i wonder if joseph ever feels any threat of what mary does at the bar to him and their relationship? does he get jealous or worry that she will actually step out on him? or are his feelings about her really long gone and he just cares about his public appearance?
especially her relationship with robert. i described mary as not really emotionally cheating, but maybe that’s wrong? while we know that their relationship is platonic and perceive it that way, the intense emotional bond mary’s created doesn’t feel like cheating to us. but maybe to joseph? does he ever get worried about mary and robert becoming a thing?
