From what I've seen apparently matty did the nazi salute once, and made racist and islamophobic comments, like ik it's none of our business who taylor dates but even so I feel like taylor should be a bit more aware of the company she keeps

hi! no i totally get what you mean! it's good to hold people accountable for their actions and i understand that taylor's association with him is stirring things up for people, especially cause her image is so comparatively clean and tame. matty has definitely done some questionable if not outright fucked up things and i'm not saying he hasn't. and i don't want to defend him and say he's an angel and uwu baby girl because he's not, but let me try and explain my insight as best i can.

i've been a fan of the 1975 for six or seven years now, and their image is not about being clean. i remember being 15 and listening to their songs about drugs and sex and suicide and going oop this is a bit problematic. but their image is also not mindless -- especially in recent years (most explicitly in their last three albums) the 1975 has been about social commentary. sometimes this is sad "I'm sorry if you're living and you're 17" and sometimes it's a more goofy-toned "QAnon created a legitimate scene but it was just some bloke in the Philippines" (both from the 1975 (2022)). in either case, their lyrics are full of irony and provocative lines for the sake of commentary. love it if we made it starts as follows:

Fucking in a car Shooting heroin Saying controversial things Just for the hell of it Selling melanin and then Suffocate the black man Start with misdemeanours And we'll make a business out of them

and it's not a song in favor of any of that. instead, it's pointing out the weird polarized state of things and knowing that that first line will get you to listen. that's what it's all about i think, a plea for attention. matty keeps opening his mouth on stage and going "not to be racist but-" *band starts playing* because he's doing some fucked up ironic bit and he knows that a video of that will go viral. it's promo yes, but it's also the continued curation of this ironic polarized image. his songwriting reveals that he doesn't mean any of that, he's just doing a shoddy job of making that clear to people who aren't in on the 1975 cult.

matty is all about saying controversial things just for the hell of it, but i don't think he means most of what he says -- of course this doesn't mean it's okay to say things if it hurts people. i just think he's very self-aware. matty knows he's a mess. he's a recovering drug addict who has been writing songs with his mates since he was 14 years old and isn't cut out for being famous in an age of cancel culture.

I'm sorry about my 20's I was learning the ropes I had a tendency of thinking about it after I spoke "We're experiencing life through the postmodern lens" Oh call it like it is!

And I took shit for being quiet during the election Maybe that's fair, but I'm a busy guy I get stoned nowhere and get paid there It's not really how babies get made So, I take a minute when I think I won't die from stopping Oh, I'm just a busy guy

i don't know, i don't really want to keep just throwing lyrics at you. i just think that his songwriting is so self-referential and reveals so much about his image and relationship to fame.

he's not good at sincerity and he's certainly not sweet. his bits aren't funny to everyone. he keeps hurting people with his careless use of words, especially on stage. if i wasn't a fan of his band and knew all of their music by heart, i wouldn't be happy to see him with taylor either. so, i get it.

he did recently acknowledge the controversy at one of his shows and sort of apologized in a very matty way. it made me happy to see, but again, i get if it's not enough for those that have been targeted by his bits. i'm a white woman, and i can not accept his apology for anyone else.

i'm not trying to make excuses for him or tell anyone else how to feel about him or his connection to taylor. this is just my take on it, and if it makes you uncomfortable, please feel free to block me !!

Media I've obsessed over throughout the years!!

2010-2019: My Little Pony: FIM

Was definitely my favorite show. I still love that show sm. Definitely has the most active fan base of them all. Making art for this show definitely inspired me to be the artist i am now. -- This show rased me, and raised me good. The older fandom is questionable, there's definitely some generational trama given to us Gen Z by them, but it was a very pro-lgbt space, and i loved this so sm.

Favorite character then: Fluttershy / Now: Trixie

2017-2021: DuckTales!! (Woo-hoo)

Always kinned Louie, and always will. I mean hell, i named my first MLP OC after Lena!! -- I really loved the episodes Quack Pack and GlomTales! (the latter if wich being because is was A. it Louie centered episode, and B. he proved to his mother that his scamming isn't all bad which i was proud of him for). I think i loved him sm just bc, well one, my favorite color has always been green, but two he's so relatable. Like the episode where he wasn't so sure and up to the idea of Della suddenly coming back and being his mom when he'd never even spoke to her once was just so good. Now i can look back and see how it was relatable, but even then when i didn't know what ik now i found him to be the most logical person in that situation.

Favorite character then: Louie (maybe i liked Lena a lot too?) Now: Louie

2019-2023: The Owl House

When MLP ended, this was the show that came in and swooped me up. As of writing, the shows only been officially over for about an hour. And while yes, DuckTales was there when MLP ended, it still definitely made me feel like something was missing. It did take about a season for me to realize TOH was filling that feeling but it got there. This show has probably effected me about as much as MLP. Like through the episode “Lost in Language”, apon watching some reviews and theories on the episode, i found out Luz was bisexual. At the time i hadn't really heard the term b4, but only about a day of finding it out, i was already comfortable going by it! It just fit too well!! I also got my preferred name/s from Emira and Edric!! Sigh, i could write sm about TOH since it literally just ended, but i don't want to be here all day.

Favorite character then: Hunter, Now: The Collector. // Kinnie: Edric and Emira all the way, baby.

2023-???: Welcome Home! @:3

And now we're here. I already know this will be the thing i obsess over for the next 3-4 years, i can smell it. If things wrap up before 2026, i know the fandom will still be alive. Like idk maybe I'll laugh at my naivete in like two years rereading this post but come on!! Everything lines up way too well!! When MLP ended, TOH was there. Not TOH is ending and, oh, what's that?? WH!? I don't think its too unrealistic to think this story can take 3 test to make.. look say DHMIS, The Mandela Catalogue, and the Walten Files!!

...And well i mean if not, South Park has been going to 25 years and strong!! So I'll probably love that.

Bc of this show, i discovered i was gender fluid :]] I also found a wonderful community from it, and i love all of those people i met!!.. except for J***. You know who you are. Lmao, jokes. But yea, I'm no marvel fan or anything, but i love Greek/Norse mythology.. so it's no surprise i love Thor and Loki as much as i do!

Fav: Owen Wilson.

2021-2022: Inside Job (+ the 2000 other animated shows Netflix cancelled after one or two seasons..)

Yes there are shows that ended justly, like Kid Cosmic and CentaurWorld. They only planned on having two seasons so they ended great and with a banger. But like,, Dead End, and Glitch Techs, and give BNA another season, goddamn it!!

2020(-2023?) And 2021-2022: Animatics and The Cuphead Show respectively

I decided to add these two after ranting in the hashtags bc i just had to. :] Not much to say, i rlly love these shows. Made some art in my sketchbook and sh/t.

I noticed on your Season 4 Index that you’ve finished Robustus (congratulations on another completed episode!) which means the next one on the schedule is Prime Queen. Any opinions on Nadja, her akuma, or the plot itself that you’d like to share after you’re finished rewatching for SL? :3c

OHOHOHO You caught me at a good time because I JUST watched it yesterday and I have THOUGHTS!

This might surprise some people but this was actually my first viewing of Prime Queen. Yeah. I'm that behind. And I had a few preconceived ideas that turned out to be just...lies?

I thought Nadja had full intentions of doing a good interview but after Chloe calling in just to brag about herself and Alya trying to steal views (as well as throwing her off by having Manon there when Marinette's supposed to be watching her) I thought Nadja was pushed by Harlette to save the show by bringing up the Dark Cupid kiss to push the idea of LadyNoir being a couple.

NOPE! Turns out this was her plan all along! Harlette constantly brings up the "scoop" that NADJA pitched to her and the "supportive evidence" that she brought! Holy hell, that totally reframes the whole thing! The whole time Nadja tricked two teenage superheroes into an hour long interview with the intention of needling them about their romantic relationship?! That's so fucked up and I don't feel anything when her show is "cancelled" and she's a sobbing mess when she's akumatized because that's what you DESERVE Nadja!

Also the akuma seemed to ping pong between a dumb writer and a genius writer because there was some whiplash to Prime Queen's level of diabolical genius:

Dumb Writer: "Admit you're a couple live on 'tv' or I'll crash a train with Chloe Bourgeois in it!"

Heroes: "Ugh, FINE, sure, we're a couple, you happy now?"

Genius Writer: "Almost. Now that I've trapped you in a walk in freezer miles away, reveal your identities and give me your Miraculous or I'll drop the Ladyblogger, tied up and stuck in a sarcophagus, into the Seine to drown 💕"

Heroes: "Uhhhhhh- counter offer, we WILL do those things, but you don't get to watch because we put a pizza box over the only TV screen in the freezer."

Dumb Writer: "Hope you're not lying~" *punches with the arm that HAS THE AKUMA WATCH ON IT!

Like, girl, you HAD them! Why'd you turn stupid after turning brilliant?!

Another assumption I had was that Chat Noir kept trying to kiss Ladybug because he was hung up on the Dark Cupid kiss picture that he couldn't remember and wanted to make up for it. NOPE! He literally never brings that up again, doesn't seem concerned with it, and is just going along with Prime Queen's want for them to be a "couple". Yeah, sure, why do anything INTERESTING with a call back, that would only be fun or something and we can't have that here.

Moving on, I don't understand the show's In Universe Obsession with LIVE shows, it literally only made sense in "Stormy Weather" and "Ikari Gozen" because in SW that was an American Idol live finale to, what I'm assuming, was a season long competition where the outcome is determined by votes and in IK because it was a real time competition where the participants were normal people, not preselected competitors.

But "Kung Food"? "Troublemaker?" "Silencer?" and now "Prime Queen?" Why are these live? Is France television nothing but LIVE competition shows and interviews? Isn't that a huge liability risk, especially when the studio is KIDz+? Even if I went on a show with the best of intentions to keep myself PG, I might stub my toe and cuss LIVE ON TV, do they want to take that risk?

I'm basically trying to say that Nadja's big meltdown could've been avoided if it wasn't LIVE - Ladybug and Chat Noir could've recorded ahead of time, gone over okay and not okay questions, and then if Nadja goes off script, offending their guests to the point of leaving, she's not in the lurch and would have time to edit around it or find a solution. But no, because if all these multiple shows weren't LIVE it wouldn't be...as humiliating???? Just seems like things that professional "journalists" would predict and have contingencies for.

(It was funny that views went down as soon as Chloe was on the screen.)

The first half of the akuma becomes so frustrating because it comes across as Nadja being akumatized because two teenagers wouldn't "admit" to being in a romantic relationship when that was a rumor SHE STARTED! (Wait is this Glaciator 0.5?)

I dunno the legitimacy of this translation but like 👀

Maybe this was present in Season 1, but this is the first time I've noticed Chat Noir say "Cataclysm" several times without activating it, so, confirmed: Intent Matters. I look forward to a later episode debunking this idea because consistency doesn't live here.

They made a big deal of saving Chat Noir's cataclysm until the very end and then didn't even use it on the akuma - he used it on the freezer door AFTER the akuma was defeated, lol. Like, don't get me wrong, I get WHY, but it's just that they brought it up so many times that this felt like a "wah wah" moment in comparison to the build up.

And while I'm glad Marinette got to wrap up her Having-to-Ditch-Alya-with-Manon thing in a satisfying way, it is weird they didn't wrap up the whole "everyone thinks we're a couple" thing since the whole episode was stuck on it? Like, I guess I get it because the resolution is that there ISN'T one which is why we have episodes like Glaciator 2, but you get what I mean when it feels like within the episode there's no resolution? Especially since this is supposed to be back in the "watch in any order" era.

"Prime Queen" has some of the derpiest, creepiest faces. But it's "Red Bang Alya" so I know it's the less..good studio:

More than once Nadja's lips are off center in a way that doesn't seem intentional

Chloe and Alya both call in with the lights off for some reason, but it really makes Chloe's facial features get really creepy

This episode is just kinda pointless. Extra pointless because for all of Nadja's sobbing about her career being over she sure did bounce back immediately with a literal rename of the EXACT SAME SHOW, which instead of feeling like a resolution just makes Nadja look melodramatic.

I also hate that when Alya says "LadyNoir is not a couple" that's listened to and is "setting the record straight", not when Ladybug HERSELF said that she and Chat weren't a couple. Gross.

So yeah. My struggle right now (since I'm in the writing phase) isn't not coming up with ideas on where to take the episode, it's that I have too MANY directions I could take the episode and need to nail it down. A lot of competing ideas are happening right now, so I'm narrowing it down so that we have some focus while also being a satisfying Season 4 Finale that leads into Season 5.
