Modern Kitchen Splashbacks Melbourne Ideas 2023
Want to freshen up your kitchen's look without tearing it up and starting things all over? Perhaps what's needed is a new kitchen backsplash in addition to new benchtops. In every contemporary kitchen and other wet areas, kitchen splashbacks Melbourne are a necessary element. In addition to their practical use, they also contribute to their overall attractiveness.
A backsplash is a wall or other barrier that is often put behind appliances such as stoves and sinks to prevent water damage. Stone, porcelain, glass, or tile are common examples of water-resistant materials used in their construction. You may use it to safeguard the kitchen walls and cabinets above a workspace.
Use kitchen splashbacks Melbourne to add personality to a space
The addition of a splashback to your area provides a number of additional benefits in addition to its practical uses. They have the potential to bring a room's design or colour scheme together while also adding character, colour, texture, and flair. Splashbacks may be found in a variety of hues, materials, and styles. Here are a few of the most popular backsplash materials to consider as you finalise your remodel:
Tumblr media
1. Glass kitchen splashbacks Melbourne
Toughened glass is the common material for a glass backsplash. This form of safety glass is strengthened by being quickly heated and cooled, making it more difficult to shatter. Splashbacks made of glass come in a dizzying array of hues, textures, and sheens. They may be used in the kitchen, the bathroom, or the laundry room, as they are easy to clean.
The glass may be cut into huge, flat sheets that can be used as a backsplash and have a shiny, reflecting surface. Use a hue that blends in with your cabinetry for a sleek, unobtrusive effect, or go bold with a contrasting shade.
2. Mosaic Kitchen Tiles
Small tiles, often no more than 5cm (2 inches) in size, are used to create mosaics. They are arranged in a manner that creates a symmetrical or asymmetrical pattern. Kitchens may benefit from mosaic backsplash tiles created from a wide range of materials, including:
Glass
Ceramic
Stone
Porcelain
Walls, floors, and other surfaces may be decorated with mosaics to add colour and design.
Kitchens, bathrooms, and other rooms may all benefit from the chic look of mosaic splashbacks in Melbourne. If you need a backsplash that's many feet long, look no further than these tiles. You won't have to deal with the unsightly seams that result from using more than one huge stone slab.
Mosaic tiles are great for spicing up a monochromatic design scheme with a variety of patterns and textures. The geometric patterns of their tiles provide a nice counterpoint to the clean lines of modern decor. All in all, mosaics are one of the top kitchen splashbacks Melbourne to consider for your next renovation.
Tumblr media
3. Reinforced Mirror Backsplash
Homes with mirrored kitchen splashbacks Melbourne are a cut above the rest. A toughened and heat-resistant mirror is required for installation behind a stove to prevent breakage from hot dishes. Mirrored glass splashbacks may be purchased in a number of different colours and styles. They have both a modern and classic look, making them a good choice for a wide variety of homes.
You can enhance your room's aesthetics and functionality with a mirror backsplash. It may be set up to mirror an amazing panorama, or it can be used to visually expand a limited interior.
4. Floor Tiles Splashback
Using your floor tiles as a backsplash might be the perfect, inexpensive answer you've been searching for. By using big tiles, grout lines will be less of an eyesore. Closely space them and use grout that complements the tile's hue.
Do you own a rental property or an older house that you'd like to update? If you have extra floor tiles, using them as a backsplash in the kitchen or utility room is a smart and economical move.

What Are The Best Tiles For A Great Kitchen?
Tumblr media
The most often utilised room in a home is the kitchen. You likely spend a lot of time in the kitchen, which is the centre of your house. Consider your lifestyle, the atmosphere of your kitchen, how much time you want to spend maintaining the tile floor, and your budget before going tile shopping for your kitchen tiles.
The best tile types for your kitchen are listed below.
Ceramic
Popular ceramic tiles work well for many kitchen floors. It comes in many different styles and colours and is simple to maintain. Ceramic tiles make for a cosy and long-lasting all-season floor since they are good conductors and can heat up and cool down. Kitchen tiles made of glazed ceramic are a wise choice because they offer more protection there.
Glass Mosaic
When used as the backsplash in the kitchen, glass mosaic works wonders. Both installing and maintaining them is simple. Glass mosaic sheets come in a variety of sizes as well. They come in a range of colours and designs. They are simple to take down and stick on the wall. They are also easily removable without causing any damage to the wall region.
Marble
Fine stones like marble can boost your kitchen's style and offer elegance. Every tile is a unique work of art that may have patterns or veins. It can be buffed, polished, sharpened, or tumbled, among other finishes. Comparatively speaking to other tiles like porcelain, marble is a costly alternative that necessitates a lot of maintenance.
Natural Stone
Natural stone tiles that have been cut to a precise size can add a cosy touch to the kitchen. Natural stone materials with distinct grain patterns, such as limestone, slate, granite, and travertine, are used to make tiles. These tiles need to be sealed on a regular basis because they are quite porous and easily stained.
Travertine
The limestone used to make travertine tiles originates from springs and caves all around the world. Natural stone comes in a variety of colours now and was used in constructions in ancient Rome. Your kitchen gains a natural aspect from the travertine tiles.
Cement
Cement tiles are classic, handmade tiles with striking, traditional designs that give the kitchen a creative feel. Cement tiles should, however, be frequently modified to make them resistant to moisture and stains because they are thick, heavy, and substantial.
Porcelain
Porcelain tiles are comparable to ceramic tiles in that they are available in a wide range of hues and designs, have great conductors, are simple to maintain, and are capable of both rapid heating and rapid cooling, providing for a cosy and long-lasting all-season floor. The thick tiles can imitate real stones, hardwood planks, wood, or brick and are heated for a longer period of time than ceramic tiles.
Conclusion
Kitchen tiles are long-lasting, reasonably priced, water and stain-resistant, and able to sustain heavy foot traffic; tiles are one of the most popular materials used in kitchen flooring and walls.

Dark!Bucky x Reader
Warnings: forced age regression, nightmares, non con, blood
You woke up screaming. Red blinded your vision even after you came to your senses. You’d had plenty of nightmares since coming here but none as vivid as the last. Bucky’s hand around your throat and your blood splattered across the ground. Looking to see the white sheets of your bed stained in blood fed your hysteria.
Seconds later Bucky was running through the door and you sobbed when you saw him. You couldn’t stop crying. You were tired. Sore. Upset and frustrated and now you were bleeding. Of course your period would have come along sometime but now? While you felt at your lowest? Bucky’s eyes widened when he took in the sight of the blood. You could see the gears in his was turning as he made the connection that you weren’t bleeding because were hurt.
“Hey, baby. Calm down, okay. Everything’s going to be fine.”
He approached you cautiously but you could only see a blurry outline of him through your watery eyes. His arms wrapped around you and you didn’t fight back. A hand rubbed down your back gently.
“Shh. It’s okay. You’re going to be okay.”
Bucky had never been this soft with you. Being wrapped in his arms gave you the human contact you had been craving. You were touch starved for any kind of affection and you were distraught enough that you’d even take it from your captor. Bucky was strong and warm, something about him in that moment made you feel safe even though you knew he was the only threat around.
Once your sobs had died down, you went limp in his arms. Bucky pressed a kiss to the top of your head.
“We’re gonna get you cleaned up, okay?”
You didn’t give him a reply. You couldn’t think of anything to say.
He picked you up from the soiled sheets and carried you to the bathroom. From there he turned on the shower and helped you in. When you made no move to wash yourself, he started doing it for you.
Everything in you felt numb. Like there was no point anymore. Like fighting back would be useless. If you just let him do what he wanted, he probably wouldn’t hurt you again. If you complied with his fantasy, maybe things wouldn’t be so bad. Maybe.
Bucky washed you carefully and methodically. No sexual advances were made, his only goal seemed to clean you up. After he was done, he dried you off with a towel and pressed a kiss to your cheek. When he pulled a pair of clean underwear and a pack of pads from underneath the sink, you almost felt crazy. Those certainly hadn’t been there before so he probably put them there at some point while you slept. Thinking of Bucky in the room with you while you slept wasn’t a good thought so you brushed it aside.
As Bucky helped you into the underwear, you realized what this must look like to him. Submission. Resignation. You were being dependent on him just how he wanted. Letting him take care of you. He picked you up again and you supposed he would take you back to your bed. When he left the bathroom, he didn’t stop though. He carried through the door on the other side of the room.
Your eyes lit up with the sight of an open door at the top of a staircase. Passing the threshold left you in awe. A beautifully furnished house with yet another staircase going to another floor. The living room was an open space with a large TV and a nice couch. The kitchen was on the opposite side but all you could see was the intricate backsplash before Bucky was carrying you up the next set of stairs.
“There’s something I’ve been working on for you,” he said as he carried you through the hallway. He pushed open a door to your right and a rainbow of colors met your eyes. Bucky sat you on an amazingly plush bed and you turned in every direction to take in your surroundings.
The first thing you noticed was all the stuffed animals. A pink unicorn, a brown teddy bear, and many others littering the bed and shelves. The bedsheets had little gold crowns on them and the word princess types out in pink as a pattern. On the desk across the room you could make out a stack of coloring books. The toy box in the corner sent a special type of unease up your spine and you had to take a breath to calm yourself.
The fear inside you steadily built as your eyes perused the room, before your gaze was once again fixed on Bucky. His expression was neutral as he sat next to you.
“Here’s how this is going to work,” he trailed off, thinking. Your hands were balled into fists with your nails digging into your palms.
“When I met you, I thought you were perfect. And you are. Now you’re mine. You are going to be my perfect little girl and I’m going to take care of you. You’ll never have to worry about anything as long as you listen to me.”
The mounting terror in your expression must have been obvious because Bucky smiled and placed a hand on your shoulder.
“Don’t worry. This won’t be so scary. All you have to do is listen to me. I think you’re ready now. I don’t have a lot of rules. You’re not allowed to leave, you have to speak respectfully to me so no cursing unless I’m inside you, you have to call me Daddy and you have to do what I say when I say it.
Your tucked your shaking hands under your thighs while Bucky stood from the bed and walked to a dresser. He dug through the drawers for a bit before pulling out a short pink nightgown and bringing it back to you.
“I’m going to go make you something to eat. I want you to put this on. Do you need Daddy to help you?”
“No,” you stammered out nervously, “I can do it.”
Bucky smiled and pressed a kiss to you head before leaving the room and closing the door behind him.
Your mind was alight with panic. You knew Bucky had issues but this was absurd. And he thought you were perfect, perfect enough to be locked in his house and unwillingly take part in his fantasy. No matter what you did, you couldn’t calm down. Breathing exercises weren’t helping and you really wanted to scream. Your cheeks were wet with silent tears and you swiped your palms against your face, trying to wipe them away.
By the time he came back, your eyes were still burning from the remnants of tears and you knew your eyes had to be red from your sobbing. Bucky gave you a pitying look that made you a little angry and a little more hopeless.
He was holding several things on a tray and began to unload them. A sandwich on a plate, uninteresting, but much better than plain oatmeal. He put it on your nightstand along with a glass of juice you were immediately suspicious of. The things you didn’t expect were a heating pad and a single pill that you instantly recognized as pain medication. You were unsure how to feel about that.
When you grabbed the sandwich and began to eat, Bucky just watched you for a while. Just as you were finishing he sat down next to you again.
“If you start feeling cramps or pain or anything you can take the medicine when you’re ready.”
“Okay. Thank you.” You don’t know why you thanked him. It seemed somehow appropriate and abhorrent at the same time.
“I’ll show you where the bathroom is. You’re only allowed to go there and back to your room. Maybe soon I’ll let you into the rest of the house.”
You nodded. The two of you were silent for a moment. You reached over to take a sip of the juice. It was sweet and fruity but you couldn’t identify what fruit. Probably the artificial kind. It left a bad aftertaste and you made a face.
“You don’t like it? Sorry. I’ll give you something better later.”
You couldn’t fashion a reply to that statement so you decided to ask a question.
“Can I ask you something?”
“Go ahead,” he said with no hesitation. He looked a bit curious at what you were going to say.
You wanted to word your question carefully so he didn’t get upset.
“What happens when you need to go on a mission?”
“Oh,” he looked a bit relieved as he spoke, “don’t worry about that. I’m retired.”
“I see.”
“I know this is hard to adjust to, but I just want you to know, this went well for you. Other girls haven’t been so lucky.”
Your face fell.
“Other girls?”
Bucky turned away, looking a bit pained, like he was recalling a bad memory. His jaw tensed before he stood up again.
“Don’t worry about it.”
He left.

Why Should You Buy Antiscratch Acrylic Laminates For Your Residential Space?
The wardrobes and cabinets of your modular kitchen need an excellent finish. Not only finish but they also require durability and for this purpose, antiscratch acrylic laminates are the topmost choice. These laminates leave a glossy sheen on the surfaces and enhance the aesthetics of interiors. While designing these laminates, plastic resins and paper are pressed and heated. In comparison to PVC and other laminates, acrylic laminates come in stunning patterns, exquisite designs, dynamic textures, and mesmerizing colors. Acrylic laminates have a longer lifespan and they function exceptionally well in harsh weather conditions. Ultra-gloss, metal, matte, and glass are the several types of textures that acrylic laminates are available in. Heat-resistance, corrosion-resistance, waterproof, and withstanding direct exposure of the sun are the features that make these laminates highly sturdy.
These laminates can boost the look and feel of your interiors and are suitable for commercial as well as residential places. When people buy other types of laminates, there is always a problem of warping, rotting, discoloration, and shrinking. However, with acrylic laminates, there is no risk of any of these. These laminates are not at all difficult to clean and even a simple cloth is enough to clean the surfaces. The thickness of these laminates varies from 0.55MM to 3MM. These laminates are ideally suited for washroom cupboards, closets, kitchen screens, and interior applications. With the ever-increasing popularity of modular kitchens, antiscratch acrylic laminates are in massive demand.
Tumblr media
Some commercial space owners have uncertainty about whether to choose PVC laminates or acrylic laminates. Acrylic laminates give long-lasting results and are more durable than PVC laminates. Fibre cement boards are widely used for indoor stairs, indoor decking, facades, cladding projects, and interior partitions. These boards safeguard the exteriors and interiors of residential spaces and industrial settings. Water, silica sand, cement, and cellulose fibre are mixed to form these boards. These boards are dimensionally stable and have impact-bearing strength. Fiber cement planks are the ideal alternative to wood-based cladding as it is durable, economical, and has an elegant finish. Unlike other planks, there is no need for fillers and additives to avoid warping, termite, and mold. These planks are highly useful for wardrobe shutters, kitchen backsplashes, soffit lining, flooring, interior linings, and false ceilings.
Fibre cement planks and boards are given a solid layer of coating that prevents the attacks of mold and corrosion. Rame metallic, Prugna, Meringa, Vino, Bianco, Magnolia, Cappuccino, Gabbiano metallic, and Rocco are the colors that the buyers can choose. The specifications, prices, and features of fibre cement boards are mentioned on the websites of manufacturers and suppliers. They provide brochures to buyers that help them in decision-making. For high-impact partition walls, flooring, and wall cladding, the thickness of fibre cement planks should be between 12mm to 18mm. For backsplashes and tile underlay, their thickness varies from 4.5mm to 8mm. The suppliers and manufacturers deliver all planks and boards to end users in a timely manner.
Acrylic glass sheets have high impact resistance, great thermal stability, wide thickness range, eye-catching colors, and attractive designs. They are used for diverse applications including skylights, shop fittings, barrel vaults, neon signs, aquariums, doors, the partition of spaces, and projection screens. For buying the most durable acrylic glass sheet mohali would be the right place. The manufacturers and suppliers in Mohali believe in satisfying the needs of buyers in the best way possible. The edges of these sheets don't get chipped easily as these sheets are given a coating. These sheets have a premium finish and the manufacturing process requires binders and resins.

8 Tips On Designing A Budget Friendly Modular Kitchen
Perhaps you have been looking for suggestions to design a modular kitchen with no burning a hole in your pocket? Well, we have it covered for you. Designing and installing a modular kitchen on a budget may not seem easy. However, it may be done with a few smart designs and planning. A modular kitchen may be designed with cheaper, easily available choices, without compromising on aesthetics, functionality, and quality.
Listed below are a couple of pointers to help you look for a budget-friendly modular kitchen.
1. Know the Elements of a Modular Kitchen
A modular kitchen includes pre-made cabinet components. These pieces are fitted together to create a completely functional kitchen. The cupboard modules are made of various substances and hold all of the accessories, facilitating effective usage of the space.
The most frequent elements of a modular kitchen are:
Floor cabinets where the work surface rests.
Wall cabinets for overhead storage.
Stylish yet functional dividers for your cabinets.
Functional hardware, including knobs and hinges.
2. Understand the Requirements of Your Kitchen
Your prerequisites for a cooking area are exceptional. You’ll need a tailor-made layout that meets your use requirements, available space, and budget. To revamp your existing kitchen provide the layout some thought. Your kitchen may be an L-shaped, a corridor kitchen; the layout will dictate the modular kitchen installation fashion.
Consider your cooking style Also. Are you someone who needs an excess counter space? Can you bake a good deal? Or need additional space to fit in a bigger fridge? Would you wish to store your cutlery and bone china in your kitchen?
Knowing all this is essential to help you choose a module based on its usefulness and your own requirements.
3. Cabinet Finishes and Materials for Budget-Friendly Kitchens
Your kitchen cabinets take up a chunk of the kitchen design expenses. Choose cupboard materials that are pocket-friendly and durable. They’re durable, come in a variety of colors, and are simple to keep.
Wood veneers are a fantastic option too. They’re thin wood sheets pasted on a surface like MDF or plywood. They aren’t as expensive as wood but give the fashionable look of an all-wood kitchen and provide protection against moisture and termites as well.
Poly-vinyl chloride (PVC) sheets are produced from tough composite vinyl. They’re installed with no substrate. If you want to stick to a wood finish, search for PVC sheets together with artificial wooden grains and molding.
4. Aluminium or steel is just another durable option for kitchen cabinets.
Pick for unique color combinations or a single color if you like. Two-toned kitchens are rather the fad these days. So are plain black or all-white kitchens. It is possible to go to white-blue, red-green-grey, or even pastel colors to your own kitchen cabinets. Countertop Ideas for a Budget-Friendly Modular Kitchen
You will find rather a lot of options offered in the market when it comes to countertops. Granite and Granite are some of the cost-effective solutions. However, a marble countertop may not be ideal, as it stains easily.
5. Kitchen Backsplash Ideas
The backsplash is yet another area to bring in some new color, pattern, and texture in your cooking space. Instead of plain colored tiles, you can use patterned ceramic or ceramic tiles. You can go for traditional patterns like the Turkish tile patterns, or a picture checkered black and white pattern. You can have a look at terracotta tiles, metallic finishes like copper, brass, aluminum, or steel and glass tiles too.
6. Painting the Kitchen
Paint is a magical element that can transform your kitchen in a blink. Instead of whitewashing the kitchen, then pick a bright color that complements your cabinetry and adds a dash of personality to your cooking space. Go to get a neutral color if that’s what you like, and don’t shy away from painting your kitchen a deep hue. On a wall that does not face much heat from the cooker, you can put in heat and grease-resistant wallpaper. A little color can never burn a hole in your pocket!
7. Budget-Friendly Ideas for Kitchen Floors
Don’t neglect to choose the ideal floor remedies for your kitchen. Vinyl is an inexpensive option that comes in the form of sheets, tiles, or boards. You might also opt for patterned or plain ceramic tiles, laminates or linoleum flooring. Opt for stained concrete if you prefer an industrial look. All these are easy on the pocket and low on maintenance.
8. Storage Ideas for a Budget-Friendly Modular Kitchen
whilst planning the storage, then take into consideration all the utensils and appliances you already own. Ensure that you have sufficient space for any new appliances you plan to buy. If you want more storage, fix floating shelves around the wall.
Accessorize Your Kitchen at a Budget
Here are some cool ideas to grow your kitchen
Instead of the regular knobs for your kitchen cabinets, start looking for vintage metal, glass, ceramic or ceramic ones. These will glamourize your cooking area.
Mount a few pieces of artwork on the walls — it’s among the coolest ways to glam up your kitchen. It might be a flea market painting, a couple of photographs, or a poster you like.
Change the fabric of your kitchen window treatments.
High efficiency together with gorgeous aesthetics is a hallmark of modular kitchen layouts. Our experts at HomeLane can certainly help you design a modular kitchen that fits right in your budget.

"My gingerbread house is prettier than yours."- SwanFireQueen holiday prompt.
Gingerbread Palace of the Century
A/N: SwanFireQueen set in the Gold Family ‘verse. I’ve been meaning to explore the Neal/Emma/Regina relationship dynamic more, and this was a fun way to do so. Can’t resist some implied Rumbelle, either.Rating: T
On AO3
“This looksridiculous.” Emma tossed the bag of icing on the counter, splattering whitedots of the sticky sugary glue all over the kitchen backsplash. She crossed herarms over her chest, huffing when the bottom edge of the wall she was holdingup slid off the cardboard base and onto the floor. She picked up the sheet ofgingerbread, now in three pieces, and tossed it into the sink. “These wallswon’t stay up! Look at my gumdrops! They’re all gooey and soft.”
“Hey now,” saidNeal, “don’t be so hard on yourself. I have great respect for your gumdrops, baby.”
“Thanks a lot,”she muttered.
“We have moregingerbread cooling in the dining room. I’ll be over there to help you out in asecond, soon as I finish putting the finishing touches on this masterpiece.” Hestuck his tongue between his teeth and Emma glared while he tipped a tray ofblue melted sugar, coaxing it to spread into a delicate sheet with gentleflicks of his wrists.
“Is that stainedglass?” she asked incredulously. “That’s just great.” She nodded towardRegina’s house. “Look at the two of yours. Regina has freakin’ reindeer frolickingin front of the sugared apple trees of her gingerbread mansion, and you’rebuilding, what, Saint Paul’s cathedral?”
“Nope, it’s areplica of the town hall…and our brilliant mayor’s office,” he replied, flashing his dimples at Regina.
Emma snorted indisgust. Suck up. “Between Mr. Artistand Ms. Fashion Magazine Cover, my house looks like the Golds’ cabin after lastyear’s blizzard. And I mean after theroof caved in.” She dusted dried bits of icing off her jeans, smearing themacross the denim and sending them to the floor.  The area around her unfortunate creationresembled the aftermath of an elf paintball war, while Neal and Regina’sworkspaces were both pristine.
“Don’t you thinkyou’re being a touch too sensitive, Emma?” Regina asked, piping scallopedicicles along the edges of the roof of her house. “It’s a family activity, nota competition.”
“Just statingfacts,” she said flatly. “I’m the least successful person in thisrelationship.”
“Except for thatwhole Savior of the entire fairytale race thing,” Neal pointed out.
“Ha! Aladdin’s aSavior, Gold’s a Savior. Everyone around here’s a friggin’ Savior these days.”Emma tucked her hands into her sweater and smoothed her flushed cheeks. “Anyway,my gingerbread disaster sucks the big one.”
Neal grinnedwolfishly. “I’ve got a big one you can—”
“Don’t.” Emma droppedher voice and nodded toward the stairwell. “Henry and Gideon are playingNintendo Switch in his room.”
Regina looked upfrom piping holly branches over her windows. “You kiss your stepmother withthat mouth?” she asked Neal.
He raised aneyebrow. “Are you kidding? I’ve heard Belle say worse to my father with Gideon in the room.”
“Fine. Do youkiss your queen with that mouth?” Regina slid off her stool and rounded theisland to Neal’s side, a delicate heat flaring in her eyes.
“No, ma’am,” hesaid, then pulled her close and brushed a kiss across her lips.
Emma groaned and grabbed ahandful of chocolate pebbles and popped them in her mouth. “I’m gonna go watchsome football. Come get me when you two are done competing for gingerbread palaceof the century or whatever.”
“You can’t eat the supplies and leaveme here with Cassidy.” Regina’s bright red lips pouted prettily, and sheswatted Emma on the buttocks. “I still have the nonpareils to add to the roof, why don’t you help me finish and get an edge on smarty pants over there? There’s only room for one of these gingerbread palacesin the dining room centerpiece, and it’s going to be mine.”
Emma appraised the two houses, both of which were spectacular. “I think you’ve got this covered. Southern Living called; they’ll be hereat six for your photo shoot.”
“If you stay, I’ll make myspecial homemade hot chocolate,” Regina offered. “Valrhona chocolate, cinnamon-spikedwhipped cream, a bruleed candy cane…”
Emma groaned; Regina knew how to cookand she knew how to bribe. “Fine. But I want the whole pot this time and I’m not sharing.”
“What’s wrong, Gina?” Nealtaunted. “You jealous ‘cause my gingerbread house is prettier than yours? Gottarope Emma into helping you finish the job?”
“I thought it wasn’t a competition,”Emma reminded them, but Regina and Neal weren’t listening. They locked eyes—brownon brown—a bull and a matador preparing to square off.
Regina moved her gaze over Neal’sthree-story masterpiece like it was sewage paperwork at a town council meeting. She tapped one of the twisted peppermint stick columns gracing the sides ofNeal’s front door, hard enough to make it wobble. “You think I’m threatened byyour little shack?”
He picked up a gummy tree andflung it at Regina’s house, knocking the top hat off her fondant snowman.“Oooops, sorry. I was aiming for the trash.”
Regina flickedher wrist, pelting hundreds of tiny multi-colored candy balls in the directionof Neal and his house.
“Ow!” Nealducked out of the way of the candy shrapnel, still trying to protect his housewith his arms. “No magic, remember? Magic is cheating!”
“You should havethought of that before you started throwing candy, Cassidy,” Regina said. She threwa protective force field up around her creation, then started hurling chunks ofgingerbread at his house.
Balls offondant, almonds, and cereal flew through the air, pinging against the countersand the cupboards and rolling all over the tile floor.
“Hey, you guys, wait!” Emma cried, sidestepping as a peppermint stick whizzed by her ear.
“Oh, it’s on!”Neal lunged at Regina, squirting apple red icing all over Regina’s favorite Chanelsuit. Regina wrapped licorice whips around his wrists, tying his hands behindhis back.
“I said no magic!” Neal yelled.
“This is a$4,000 suit!” Regina shouted back.
Emma dumped abag of shredded coconut over their heads and tackled them to the floor. Shestood over them, breathing hard, her handcuffs dangling from her fingertips.
“Moms! Dad! Whatthe heck are you guys doing down here?”
Henry. Cuffs in hand, Emma whirled around toface him. He was standing in the kitchen doorway, his hand clapped over Gideon’seyes. “Henry! Gideon! Hey!”
“It’s not whatit looks like!” Regina said, scrambling to her feet.
“Totally notwhat it looks like,” Neal agreed, sitting up to brush coconut out of his hair.
“What does it look like?” five-year-old Gideonpiped up. “Henry’s coverin’ my eyes and I can’t see nothin’.”
“Anything!” Emmaand Regina corrected in unison.
“Funny how theysay kids are the ones who need supervision.” Henry rolled his eyes. “And gross! Not the handcuffs in the kitchen again. Come on, Gideon. Let’s go play at yourhouse for a while.”
“Okay,” heagreed with a small frown. “But I hope you won’t be sad.”
“Why would I be?”
“’Cause Mommyand Daddy don’t have real handcuffs like those ones. Theirs are covered in redfur.”

Kitchen Questions
It’s been fun reading through all of your questions about our kitchen! The majority of questions I received were about our counters, our range, white cabinets with four kids and the chairs in the coffee bar area.
As I mentioned before we had marble counters in our last house because I had to have them. It was one of those things that people warned me against and I just put on deaf ears because I loved them so much. And you know what? I don’t regret doing them because now I know what they are like. It’s sort of like buying clothes that are dry clean only. Your clothes will always look gorgeous if you upkeep them but it comes at a cost. I hated the constant staining (even from water glasses!) and in this kitchen we decided to go for a much more practical option, a quartz that looks like marble. Best. Decision. Ever.
We have had them since last January and after having them for 10 months I cannot sing their praises any higher. There is ZERO maintenance. I can use vinegar and water, Comet or 409 on them. It is amazing with all of us daily making messes all over them! I have never had problems with heat on them (someone mentioned someone having trouble using an InstaPot on them). We regularly have our pressure cooker, coffee maker, Cuisinart Griddler and crock pot on it with no problem… hot grease kept coming out of the griddler the other day before I realized that I’d forgotten to slip in the grease catcher and the counter is totally fine.
We opted for the thicker counter with a double ogee edge. I think it looks classy while still looking relatively simple. If you want to do this ask your counter fabricator to only make it thicker for 4 inches in around the perimeter so that you don’t have to pay for it to be double thick all around the inside.
The simple answer is that we have five heat zones in the house which was a HUGE selling point to us coming from our last house with one heat zone. We have triple the amount of space in this house but a heat bill that isn’t exorbitantly higher than our last house because we are able to heat only the area of the house we are in… and the kitchen area is a different heat zone than the dining room and office are on (and the French door would be going into the dining room). It isn’t very often we keep that zone on during the week continuously at a higher temp. We’d love the dining room and kitchen area to open up to each other though because one, windows inside a house are one of my biggest pet peeves and two, just last weekend we had 20 people over and it would have been perfect to have French doors here so all the kids could be better connected to the adults. As it is now we walk through the kitchen into the hallway then into the dining room or through the living room (to the left of this photo). Is it the end of the world to have no direct entry into the dining room? Not at all. But if we are looking for ways to make our house function at 100% and to utilize the space we have best we want to maximize comfortably the amount of people we can have over and still have it be practical for our day to day lives.
We’ve had these chairs for a few years now and LOVE them… that being said you’ll probably see new ones in here sooner than later because we foolishly didn’t Scotchguard them when putting them where kids have food (they were totally safe in the living room and office before this
Tumblr media
). They are an amazing bang for your buck. When you sit on them for the first time they feel hard but after about two weeks the seat cushion breaks in to a normal comfiness and hasn’t become wimpy in the amount of time we’ve had them. You can sit in it for hours… it’s not just for decoration.
There is one chair with a little tear in the fabric where a seam was pulling apart a tiny bit from wear and one of the kids pulled it apart. That is the only spot of poorly made-ness I’ve seen on all the chairs.
Keep in mind when you are purchasing them you are buying a $250ish chair… not a $2000 one. It may not last you 20 years but if we had put Scotchguard on these I could see them lasting 8-10 years no problem. They are light enough weight that I can easily move them from room to room and the only assembly you need to do is screw the chair legs on to the chair, it will literally take you under 5 minutes and you don’t need a single tool.
Verdict: amazing chair and I would totally recommend them. I’m sitting in one right now cuddled up in a blanket.
Let me preface this by saying they are definitely not as clean as they were when they were installed. BUT keep in mind they are probably cleaner than they would be if they were darker wood, because I see the drips sooner which reminds me to clean it. We clean them with 409 or something like it or more often with just baby wipes. It’s a chore I can give to Drew and Elle that they can mostly handle! I think for the most part I just need to go over everything with a Magic Eraser. The trickiest part is just getting into the trim work around the shaker inset and probably just need to devote time to do that with a toothbrush but I have better things to do pretty much every single day.
Tumblr media
I really like the range. It’s a convection range so everything cooks a lot faster (my cookies take 10 minutes instead of 13 in a traditional oven). I’ve never cooked on gas before this range and it’s incredible how easy it is to burn things (I’m was used to everything cooking slowly and evenly on an electric top!) but for the most part I’ve become accustomed to it.
The larger side of the oven is amazing. I can fit two large roasting pans next to each other with only a slight overlap. The smaller side of the oven is incredibly small. My little pan that came with my toaster oven fits perfectly in it. It’s good if I need to do something small but for the most part it’s too small for our family of six unless I’m cooking in the one small cookie sheet or this LeCruset dish which is the perfect size for it.
Verdict on if it is worth the money: Hard to say because we’ve had it less than a year and am not sure about maintenance yet but looks wise and how it works thus far it’s been a good investment for us. Would I do it again in another kitchen? My dream would be a 60 inch range to have to 30 inch ovens or to have another 48 inch and a wall oven but only because I want more functional space in the oven, not because the range has been poorly functioning.
Yes, I think so… and we purchased the extra protection plan because we wanted assurance it would last at the price we paid. We decided to do a mid to high-ish end remodel because of what we hope to have the price be when we sell but we also wanted to make decisions that we liked and worked for our family in case we decided this was our forever house. It’s rare that I have the fridge bursting at the seams because I generally grocery shop 2-3 times a week. My biggest pet peeve with the unit is that it’s hard to get a frozen pizza box in the freezer except for the top shelf, everything else works beautifully.

8 Tips On Designing A Budget Friendly Modular Kitchen
Have you been looking for ideas to design a modular kitchen without burning a hole in your pocket? Well, we have it covered for you. Designing and installing a modular kitchen on a budget may not seem easy. However, it can be done with some smart planning and designing. A modular kitchen can be designed with cheaper, easily available alternatives, without compromising on aesthetics, functionality and quality. Here are a few tips to help you design a budget-friendly modular kitchen fitting in London.
1. Understand the Elements of a Modular Kitchen
A modular kitchen has pre-made cabinet parts. These parts are fitted together to create a completely functional kitchen. The cabinet modules are made of various materials and hold all the accessories, facilitating effective usage of the space. The most common elements of a modular kitchen are:
Floor cabinets on which the work surface rests.
Wall cabinets for overhead storage.
Stylish yet functional shutters for the cabinets.
A countertop made of materials such as laminate, vinyl, wood, granite, or marble.
Functional hardware, including knobs and hinges.
Appliances such as stoves, chimneys, ovens, microwave ovens, dishwashers and sinks.
2. Understand the Requirements of Your Kitchen
A modular kitchen has pre-made cabinet parts. These parts are fitted together to create a completely functional kitchen. The cabinet modules are made of various materials and hold all the accessories, facilitating effective usage of the space. The most common elements of a modular kitchen are:ctate the modular kitchen installation style. Consider your cooking style as well. Are you someone who needs an extra counter space? Do you bake a lot? Or need extra space to fit in a bigger fridge? Do you want to store your cutlery and bone china in your kitchen?  Knowing all this is important to help you choose a module based on its utility and your requirements.
3. Cabinet Finishes and Materials for Budget-Friendly Kitchens
Your kitchen cabinets take up a chunk of the kitchen design expenses. Choose cabinet materials that are pocket-friendly and durable.
Opt for unique colour combinations or a single colour if you like. Two-toned kitchens are quite the trend these days. So are plain black or all-white kitchens. You can go to white-blue, red-green-grey, or even pastel colours for your kitchen cabinets.
4. Countertop Ideas for a Budget-Friendly Kitchen
There are quite a lot of options available in the market when it comes to countertops. Granite and marble are some of the cost-effective solutions. However, a marble countertop may not be ideal, as it stains easily.
5. Kitchen Backsplash Ideas
The backsplash is yet another area to bring in some fresh colour, pattern and texture in your cooking space. Instead of plain coloured tiles, you can use patterned ceramic or porcelain tiles. You can go for traditional patterns like the Turkish tile patterns, or a graphic checkered black and white pattern. You can check out terracotta tiles, metallic finishes like copper, brass, aluminium, or steel and glass tiles as well.
6. Painting the Kitchen
Paint is a magic element that can transform your kitchen in a blink. Instead of whitewashing the kitchen, pick a bright colour that complements your cabinetry and adds a dash of personality to your cooking space. Go for a neutral shade if that’s what you like, and don’t shy away from painting your kitchen a deep hue. On a wall that doesn’t face much heat from the stove, you can install a heat and grease resistant wallpaper. A little colour can never burn a hole in your pocket!
7. Budget-Friendly Ideas for Kitchen Flooring
Don’t forget to pick the right flooring treatments for your kitchen. Vinyl is an inexpensive option that comes in the form of sheets, tiles or planks. You can also go for patterned or plain ceramic tiles, laminates or linoleum flooring. Opt for stained concrete if you prefer an industrial look. These are easy on the pocket and low on maintenance.
High efficiency combined with stunning aesthetics is a hallmark of modular kitchen designs. Our experts at Fit & Renovate can surely help you design a modular kitchen that fits right in your budget.

This guide was written by Jeff Downing of Downing Designs, a professional design-build-install studio that has installed millions of dollars of custom Glass surfaces. He has an intimate understanding of glass countertop fabrication.
Downing Designs has a truly unique approach where human interaction and creative insight are fluidly aligned to imagine a  brighter future for your space. Great things happen (e g. Prototypes) when we cross-pollinate our ideas with others. The result is a functional piece of glass art that has an emotional connection with their clients.
If you Google  “Buy Glass Countertops” you will see many keyword-stuffed, ad-driven sites posting misleading statements and very odd glass high bar support ideas.  Please enjoy our ERRATA section at the end where we’ve called them out for their misleading statements and expensive glass countertops installed in strange, half-baked ways.  Buyer Beware!
Glass Types and Terms
Glass Countertops can be fabricated from a variety of glass. Float Glass is commonly used. Float glass is a flat sheet created by “floating” raw molten glass (a mix of raw material and recycled glass cullet) over a bath of molten tin.
Float Glass  glass pieces up to 177” x 127” x ¾” thickness are available and are well suited for flat, back painted countertops and splashbacks.
3/4″ Low iron Glass Backpainted White
Low-Iron Glass is a Float glass with low amounts of iron which render a light bluish hue. This is critical when viewing the edge, as you will see the color intensity greatly magnified. Low-iron glass is well suited for countertops and backsplashes.
“Clear” Glass is a Float glass with higher iron content that renders it a greenish hue. The thicker the glass, the deeper the hue. Dont use “Clear” glass if you are back painting the glass as it will tint your final result.
Tempered Glass is created from Float Glass by heating in an oven and then quickly cooling. Tempered glass is about 4x stronger than annealed glass, allowing it to be used for thin glass applications e.g. shower doors, sneeze guards. Tempered glass must have all cuts completed before tempering. Usually, glass that is ¾” or thicker need NOT be tempered for use in bathrooms vanity tops, or kitchen glass counters.
Designer Note:  Lighting flat glass with LEDs is generally a waste of money because it has no texture depth to deflect the light.
Slumped Glass is made by placing glass over a mold then thermoforming at ~1300 degrees F in Kilns until the glass “slumps” and to the shape of the mould.  Slumping glass over large textured ceramic sand beds creates textured glass Sinks and Glass Backsplashes.
Fused Textured Glass is a process where sheets of float glass are thermoformed over a large ceramic sand bed or mould and fused at ~1450 degrees F,  then annealed. The annealing process “heat-strengthens” the fused glass product to almost 2x annealed glass strength. Fused textured glass at 1.5” thick is very strong and is an extremely durable material that can be cantilevered  to a much greater degree than most surfacing materials.
Glass Countertop Cantilevered 37″ from left Support
Designer note:  1” thick countertops do not have the visual depth on edge vs 1.5” glass but cost only fractionally less.
Textured glass hides the appearance of fingerprints and minor scratches.
Fused Glass with Colors is created using an inter-layer “paint” of glass frit and enamels and then fired. Vibrant colors are possible.
Glass With Colored Frit Fused in between Layers
Hot glass is the process of gathering and molten glass and twirling it into the artists final vision. Beautiful small artistic glass sinks and pieces can be formed this way. Examples include Dale Chihuly and “Big Wave” Dave Wight.
White Glass countertops (aka Nano glass, Crystallized glass) are a fusion of recycled glass and minerals created at 3000 degrees. It is poured, cooled then polished to a very high gloss shine. White glass countertops share a non-porous nature with Glass.
Pure White Glass countertops change the spatial relationship of every room they reside. In fact, they make kitchens and baths appear ~25% larger.
White Glass Countertops in Kitchen
From a 2019 survey on Houzz:  White countertops continue to grow in popularity. Nearly one in three counters are done in white (22%, 27% and 31% in 2017, 2018 and 2019 studies, respectively) making them the #1 countertop choice for homes.
White glass is much harder on the Mohs hardness scale (7) vs glass (5.5)  or granite (6.2) or engineered quartz (6.7). It is a superior countertop material for outdoors as it reflects much of the solar energy, is UV-proof, non-porous, stain-proof, requires zero maintenance or sealing, acid-proof and does not burn from cigarettes. White glass comes in slabs 120” x 60” x 1.2”
Black Glass countertops are similar to White glass…but a deep, pure opaque high gloss black. These will get hot in direct sunlight.
Recycled Glass Countertops is a matrix made up of small chips of colorful recycled glass chips in a binder and sold in slabs. A concrete based binder for your recycled glass countertops will require a sealant application. A resin-based binder will stand up to stains better, but can’t be used outdoors…UV light will degrade it. Many choices for colors and binders are available. Vetrazzo, IceStone, Geos are notable brands.
  Textures for Glass Countertops
Texturing Glass Upon selection of the glass countertop to be used, fabrication can begin after measuring, templating, and texture design. A like a bespoke tailor, a full-service glass countertop designer-fabricator will demonstrate ALL of your options to accessorize your glass countertop to achieve the utmost in “wow” factor. These critical points include:
Stamped Textures provide a consistent textured look that is omni-directional. These can be interesting when selected for the right environment.
Hand Sculpted Textures are artistically carved into the kiln bed to create the texture you desire. Deep textures create drama and are spectacular when lit with LEDs and downlights. See our Fox News video showing some of this sculpting process.
Designer Tip: Communicate and review pattern suggestions, and refine these until happy. Select a glass texture that enhances the personality of your room “flow”. Don’t settle for a stamped textured piece of glass when for the same amount of money you can have a custom designed statement piece that flows elegantly with the lines in your home. Make sure your texture flows from one piece of glass to another across the seam in multi-sectional countertops. See Video below for a glass counter that flows well with the room.
vimeo
Hand Texturing Kiln Bed for Glass Countertops
Smooth texture transition at corner
Air Bubbles trapped between layers of glass are part of their endearing “flaws” since glass is not formed under a vacuum.
They enhance the visual interest and depth of thick glass countertops. More Bubbles can be creatively added to glass countertops (with chemicals) if that is your desire.
vimeo
  Glass Cutting and Polishing
Kiln-formed glass must be cut to size and have holes drilled. Waterjets, wet saws and polishing tools with plenty of water are used. Make sure your glass fabricator has these in his shop to efficiently move your glass from kiln to cutting to polishing.
Designer Note:  Make sure you inspect the quality of the edge polish of your glass countertop upon arrival. If it has lines from a worn out CNC bit, reject it!  Your glass edge should offer a perfectly polished lens into your glass.
Also, 45 degree bevels present (2) sharp edges where the top meets the face. Gently rounded over edges are much more comfortable, and much less prone to chipping. See below picture illustrating those points.
Lines on Face due to Worn Out CNC bit…”Shiney but Liney”
Lighting Glass
Make sure you have a thorough Lighting plan for LED Edge Lighting, Down lighting and Ambient Lighting so they can all contribute to the WOW factor of your glass countertop.
LED Edge and Down lighted Glass Countertop…Note Dramatic Shadows on Floor
LED Edge Lighting is typically this is the best way to light textured glass countertops. Narrow LED strip lights on the edge of the countertop allow for high levels of striking high-contrast color. Done right, your glass countertop will “POP”…especially at night. Color and brightness are achieved with a controller, usually a smart phone app. This produces millions of stunning colors that can even dance to your music. You will need to run wires from the LED strips to a controller and transformer to a 110v power outlet. Use quality LEDs…this is not a place to save money as they can be tricky to replace once installed.
Designer Tip: Your LED cover and wiring should be minimalist and allow viewing into glass as well as reduce the pixel appearance from the front. Get a plan to conceal the LED wires through the supports and lower surface.
Minimalist LED Cover…no Visible Wires.
On A Lighter Side Note:  Our “proprietary” research shows that properly lit Glass High Bars are in fact “Time Machines”. Apparently, a huge benefit of the upward angling and soft mood lighting from our glass high bars is that it “turns back the clock a few years”. (It makes my vintage 1959 wrinkles almost go away…we are not sure how to price that benefit just yet).
Down lighting from the ceiling will create a powerful mimic shadow upon the floor and lower surface. It is a perfect lighting technique for High bars to complement LED edge lighting.
Designer Tip: Modern LED downlights are available that create a tight, well-defined X-Ray shadow upon the floor. They are powerful, dimmable and consume very little electricity. Aim the light to project the shadows where you desire…preferably at an angle to make the shadows look bigger.
Ambient lighting allows the glass to pop naturally during the day in a sunny location. Low iron glass is naturally beautiful when lit with sunlight. See the pictures and video below.

Same Countertop Down lit at Night

Under lighting Glass requires a tall structure on the underside of the textured glass to allow for even distribution of light…which may be unsuitably high for your countertop.
Designer Note: It also creates a very “flat” lighting effect that minimizes the contrast of shadow vs light and robs textures of their visual depth. It “highlights” the rib structure of the underlying panels…and is not pretty. (see below). This technique does however work well with onyx slabs.
Underlit Glass Countertop…Looks like an XRay!
Metal Support Brackets and Installation Techniques
Supports Metal support brackets of all shapes and sizes are available. Custom metal supports must often be fabricated to suit unusual installs e.g floor-mounted supports.   Your metal fabricator should be able to offer you any custom design you wish…not just some one-size-fits-all support.  Make sure your plan for your high bar is sturdy and elegant.  Methods of attachment of the glass to the support include:
Silicone. Best used to attach textured glass to flat supports.
Metal Caps. Low Profile caps are best if caps are used.
UV glue. Fastest bond for flat glass to flat metal supports.
High Bar with (3) Low Profile Caps, No supports
High Bar with Low Profile Caps, Stainless Supports in Ground.
High Bar with Custom Supports…attached by Silicone
vimeo
Designer tip: Many designs are lazy and use ill-conceived support techniques. They often prevent you from freely rotating in your high bars stools because your knee hits the support. Or, they use “hockey puck caps” on top of the glass to prevent you from having an uninterrupted smooth flow across your high bar surface. Look for these “beauties” in the “Errata” section at the end of this article. Make sure your supports do not interact with your knees at your glass high bar. Look closely at the  pictures above and below. They have a clean look owing to thoughtfully designed custom cantilevering brackets . They are concave on the high bar chairs side, thus making it very hard to hit your knee as you rotate your high bar chair.
Custom Bracket designed to Not Hit Your Knee
Back painting glass maximizes the visual depth of the textured glass countertop, backsplash or sink basin, while hiding the ability to see under or behind the glass.
Designer Tip: Back painting is preferred to laminating or painting your underlayment because gnats can find their way between the bottom of textured glass and the top of the laminate where their little carcasses will pepper the background forever. Not Pretty. Silver metallic and white back paint add depth. Back paint can be tinted to match your decor.
Textured 1/2″ Glass Backsplash Backpainted with LEDs
Installation and Shipping.
Expensive Glass requires skillful planning and experienced manpower to install.
Designer Note: We have been on a few time critical installations where cabinets, plumbing, electrical work, ceiling plastering were all being dome in the same kitchen at the same time!  This is not good.
Please have a schedule that allows the glass counter to be one of the last installations...just like a valuable piece of wall art. Having too many tradesman in the room after installation increases the risk of damage to your artistic piece.
Crating for Shipping. Crates are specially fabricated for glass countertops with plenty of sturdy foam to cushion it during shipping.  Make sure you purchase insurance t cover the cost of both the glass as well as the shipping costs.
Solid Crate for Shipping Glass Counters
Glass Countertops Cost:
As you can see, there is a wide range of options for glass countertops. It is impossible to conclude a precise cost but these numbers below can give you a start.
$100+/sq. ft. for ¾” flat low-iron glass. Backpaint, thermoforming, waterjetting custom shapes, holes, etc. adds to cost.
$350+/sq. ft. for 1.5” textured low-iron glass. LEDs, backpaint, custom shapes, size of piece, supports, installation, etc. add to cost.
White Glass and Recycled Glass are $125-175+/sq. Ft.
Installation and delivery costs add to the above.
Remodeling Trends
In an interesting article on Houzz, they show that homeowners are increasing their spending more on High-End countertops vs other kitchen elements.
Houzz Survey…Buyers are Splurging on Countertops
Conclusion
You are going to have to place your trust and money in someone to faithfully execute your glass countertop project. If your vendor cannot confidently lead you through each step in the design, template, custom textural sculpting, fabrication, lighting, back-painting, supporting, securing, shipping as well as installing, then find one who can …or…risk a poor outcome. Glass counters cost too much to risk a poor outcome in the hands of amateurs.
Find a passionate glass fabricator that can listen to you and bring out the best in your ideas, create a plan and lead you through the process. The result will be an unbelievable artistic “wow” piece in your home for many years.

  ERRATA
STRANGE Glass statements we have scraped from the Internet…”Fake News”
“On average, the minimum cost for glass countertops per square foot is $75, while the maximum cost per square foot is around $105.”
Clearly they have never made a thick textured glass countertop.
“Annealed Glass—Similar to tempered glass, annealed glass has chemicals added to the resin mixture to increase its strength.”
A chemical added to the resin??? This is glass, NOT plastic.
“Nonetheless, there are many other factors that can increase or decrease the total cost of glass counters. Supplies such as sealants and adhesives add an average of $2.45 per finished square foot of surface area.”
Sealants????   Why do you need to seal glass? Its non-porous.
“Contact with acidic foods, drinks, and certain cleaners can affect the surface and require fixing”
Not unless you are serving hydrofluoric acid to your guests! Nonsense!
Odd Designs Ideas for High Bars
Underlit Glass Countertop…Looks like an XRay!
This ugly under lighting completely ruins an otherwise nice glass countertop. Very Odd looking.
Glass Countertop with Hockey Pucks and Archaic supports. Where am I supposed to sit ?   Knee and Shin bashing will occur.  Careful of those Hockey Pucks!  Thanks, but I think I’ll stand…
Again, where am I supposed to sit?  Knee bashing will occur. Shins are safe here. Robs the ability to seat people normally.
Posts to Floor Reduce Usable Bar Space
Glass Countertop with fat supports and LED covers
Where does my glass of wine and dinner plate sit? Look out for those hockey pucks!  You cannot see the edge of  the glass while cooking!   Glass Counters should look great from all sides.
What is the Point? No Cantilever, Lots of Hockey Pucks,No room to clean under.
This client went with a slab vendor  (Thinkglass) that merely took their money with no thoughtful advice (e.g. backpaint) to prevent this half-baked result. The result is a glass countertop that shows everything inside the cabinet. Thinking about themselves and not about getting this piece right!
Glass Countertop without BackPaint…NOT Pretty to see insides of cabinets

Moody Modern Industrial Interiors With Wood And Concrete Decor
Modern industrial decor, moody black accents and a scattering of uplifting indoor plants shape these two stylish home interiors. Concrete and wood installations build texture within the schemes, whilst unique lighting fixtures add character. Our first home interior is on the darker dramatic side, where black decor plays the most dominant role. A mezzanine level introduces a cool twist to the open plan interior, and a provides a base for a home office and second bedroom. Our next tour has a somewhat lighter vibe, with eye-catching bespoke wire fence elements. Orange accents pack some punch between cool concrete features this time around, raising the energy with loud and proud personality.
Visualizer: Marra Group   Heading straight into the living room of our first moody modern home, a darkly dominated scheme of black and white decor fills the double height space. Black curtains hang long and heavy around large windows. A huge indoor plant lolls over the sofa.
A brickwork feature wall towers behind a piece of colourful artwork. A modern chandelier adds a luxe metallic touch.
Round nesting coffee tables stand on the bare timber floor. A black TV stand positions the TV screen in front of a concrete staircase, which leads up to a mezzanine home workspace and bedroom.
Looking down from the mezzanine level, over a healthy border of plants, we get a good view of bold industrial style lighting over the dining area.
The huge industrial pendants shape the look of the dining kitchen, as well as throwing their light far and wide.
A black kitchen with peninsula runs around the modern dining set. Open fronted shelving units have been set between the upper and lower cabinets, set shallow against the backsplash.
Integrated appliances are installed into the return wall of the kitchen, centred between full height cabinets.
The unique dining table design has a small recess to hold a centrepiece. Herbs have been placed here to add a little lively greenery–and to keep the chef well supplied.
A couple of small pendant lights illuminate the kitchen peninsula. This small extension is a breakfast bar, where two bar stools stand facing into the room.
Between the kitchen run and the concrete mezzanine staircase, a doorway exits into a hallway. Closets line the walls here to provide practical storage for the home. Display shelving adds an attractive element.
There is also a ground floor bedroom in the home. A concrete feature wall grows from behind an illuminated wooden headboard. The same tone of wood flooring extends across the room beneath a black bed and a modern black lounge chair.
A grey rug hold the pieces of furniture together as a cohesive layout.
Yellow highlights found in the exposed brick wall have been picked out as an accent colour for the bedroom, with the colour echoed in a piece of wall art. The bedroom has its own ensuite bathroom, accessed through the door we see on the left here, and a walk in closet to the right.
Smoked glass divides the bedroom from the lounge.
With the addition of a glass panel above the door, the bedroom is opened up to all aspects of the living room.
The mezzanine has its own bathroom, or rather an ensuite shower room.
A black toilet and vanity unit contrast with white walls.
The black heated towel rail adds another dark base note.
Bookshelves are stacked along the mezzanine wall, spanning the home workspace.
A black swivel chair pulls up to the keyboard.
The bed on the mezzanine is turned away from the work area, although, a transparent headboard design visually links the two.
Botanical art brings plant life further into the mezzanine bedroom. A rustic wooden hearth underlines the TV as a media unit.
Secretive black closet doors that line the walk in wardrobe of the downstairs bedroom look like decorative wall panelling.
The powder room by the front door is dark and dramatic.
Concrete tiles team with timber panels.
Home plan with mezzanine level.
Designer: Form'8 studio   Source: Nature   Home interior number two has a lighter mood, but is still filled with gritty industrial moments.
Metal railing panels have been commissioned to divide the lounge from the kitchen in the open plan living room, whilst still maintaining the generous sense of space and light.
An indoor plant contrasts freshly with the punchy orange accents in the room.
Concrete walls have a cooling effect on the orange decor.
Railway sleepers build a rustic coffee table.
The timber table nestles perfectly into the length and nook of the sofa’s L-shape.
A cutaway in the fresh white ceiling reveals a slice of raw concrete. A concrete column slots flush into the recess. A tower of shelving builds a transparent wall between the kitchen and home entryway.
Concrete features are left rough around the edges.
Ambient LEDs highlight the concrete ceiling feature and the wire fence room divider.
Orange dining chairs are seated around a small wooden table by the window. Two neat white dining room pendant lights subtly anchor the zone.
In the kitchen, a glass backsplash shields an exposed brick wall from cooking mess.
Orange accents continue in the grey bedroom.
Atmospheric lighting gives a small shower room big personality.
Another sheet of wire fence is mounted to the wall by the toilet. Warm recessed lighting floods the concrete behind it, dramatising its effect.
