in addition to my tags in lrb -> i think discussions surrounding the gender neutrality and/or inclusivity of a given language would be more constructive if pronouns (albeit important!) weren't often designated as the only criterion, bc there's usually just so many cultural nuances that lie outside of them.

#poca chat #like i said; kr and jp may be gender neutral in many aspects (honorifics etc) it begins to crumble in the private sphere #when you're not holding other people at a polite arm's length away and they're close to you. that's when gendered terms surface #and from my viewpoint it's kind of bc you're expected to 'recognize' more personal aspects of their identity (sister brother etc) #in eng you can introduce someone as your older sibling and it wouldn't be unnatural but there's seriously no alternative in kr+jp #i've been thinking about the gendered titles a lot (too much) recently for reasons so ahm. yeah #i hope this is worded eloquently enough but this really is just the opinion of one person so take it as you will #i am a native kr speaker though so don't try to fight me on that one.
