Okay, this is basically just me sharing most of my thoughts about Terry and Daniel in season 5 and it’s a long one so I’ll put it under a cut.
I cannot get over Terry ambushing Daniel in Raymond’s apartment. The very second Daniel told Chozen that he “had to apologize to Raymond,” I knew something awful was about to happen to him because it directly mirrored what he told Mr. Miyagi before the ambush in the third movie.
But, before I go into that, I want to talk more about Terry and Daniel up to that point. Like, I really loved the way Terry “gave” Daniel chances to back-out of things even though he definitely knew Daniel wouldn’t take them.
Terry appearing in the sauna while Daniel was in there? I called that when I saw that scene in the trailer months ago and it DELIVERED so well. Absolutely terrifying moment for Daniel and his face in that scene was so devastating. Like, Terry really chose Daniel’s most vulnerable moment: totally not expecting him and finally starting to relax a hair. (Also, most likely nude. Just saying.)
Him goading Daniel at the charity event and making him embarrass himself and Amanda? Terry making Daniel seem like the crazy one, like he was the real bad guy? Terry kept poking at Daniel over and over again and anyone who saw never would’ve guessed at what was happening because Terry was smiling the entire time. Hell, he even seemed like he was making a nice little joke about the bonsai trees even as he was talking about how he was going to turn them into mulch. (Legit, the man HAS to grin after every time he’s successfully fucked with Daniel.) He really set-up Daniel, especially by introducing him as an “old friend.” The fuckin’ audacity of that man! Jesus Christ, Daniel’s reaction to that and Amanda immediately comforting him even though she had no idea what was really happening...
Terry definitely knew that Daniel didn’t tell Amanda about him beyond surface-level stuff and I have to wonder how he feels about that.
I totally understand why Amanda didn’t believe Daniel and thought he was just bringing-up another old rivalry for no reason. We have to remember that Daniel has very obviously never told her exactly what Terry Silver did to him. After Jessica tells her everything, I think she understood WHY Daniel didn’t tell her. That and, from her perspective, it just looked like Daniel was being paranoid for no reason, especially with how kindly Terry greets them at the charity event and with how Terry actually told that one lady what a great person Amanda was. You can see Amanda’s delight in the background as Terry goads Daniel into shoving him. He let Daniel dig his own grave so he could put him into it. (Do not judge me for any shallow grave references in any of my future fics. XD)
Also, just saying, do you think Daniel suspected that Terry was stalking him? Because he was 100% doing that. Really glad they didn’t show it actually happening (like scenes of Terry skulking around before approaching Daniel). The implication of the stalking is so much scarier and really leaves you wondering when Terry would appear behind Daniel or into a scene with him.
Of course, if Daniel suspected it, he couldn’t say anything because he had no proof and Amanda already wasn’t listening to him about how dangerous Terry was. Telling her about the sauna thing or about encountering him in the country club wouldn’t have worked. Like, she probably wouldn’t have believed the sauna bit because what the fuck and she might’ve been like, “Daniel, he’s super rich, why wouldn’t he be at the country club? Also, didn’t he buy you drinks?” Like, Terry made Daniel look like he was crazy to everyone around them and I just CANNOT.
Now, to the ambush in the apartment. GOD, the sound I made when Terry appeared behind him. How quickly Daniel turned around to face him and the fearful look he gives, the way he jerks back slightly at the sight of him. The other sound I made when Terry side-stepped into his path when Daniel tried to leave. Him forcing Daniel into a fight once again…
I have rewatched that fight scene at least a dozen times over and let me tell you: it truly amazes me how much Terry actually held-back and, yes, I do believe that was him holding back. He could have very, very easily broken Daniel’s arm instead of dislocating his shoulder. He could’ve gone for Daniel’s left knee and fucked it up real good. But instead he let Daniel come at him, even let Daniel get some hits in although some of those were definitely unavoidable. He was ENTHRALLED by their fight. The sound I made when he stepped on Daniel (dear god, that bit). He only held-back enough to not totally maim or kill Daniel and that was an entirely calculated move on his part.
Like, him stepping on Daniel while saying, “Don’t look at this as an act of mercy. On the contrary, I want you alive and well for what’s about to happen. Well, alive, at least. Because the real pain is about to begin.” That call-back to the third movie!!!!! Him just leaving Daniel lying there!!!! I wish we could’ve seen how Daniel got out of there. I read somewhere that one of the writers said Chozen found him but that the episode was already long. Honestly, time dedicated to certain other things could’ve been taken away so we could’ve seen Chozen find him.
Also loved this line: “You opened the door and let me just waltz right in.” The gleeful way in which he said it…just, WOW. All of his lines during that scene were glorious.
But here’s my other thing, here’s my thing about that fight scene. Daniel striking first and Terry saying, “That’s it, LaRusso! That’s the Cobra Kai student I remember!” And then, after he locked Daniel’s arms down, him saying, “But you never really had the strength, did you?” And then that BRUTAL headbutt?! Like, Terry showed Daniel just how weak he really was and how much stronger he was than him. Daniel wouldn’t have been able to free his arms if Terry hadn’t headbutted him. He could’ve kept Daniel like that, could’ve waited to see if Daniel would break free eventually but I think he wanted to see what else Daniel had in him before he ended the fight. I feel like the fight lasted as long as it did because Terry wanted it to.
“I was ready to let this go and you just kept getting in my way!” And then the face grab, the FACE GRAB, HIS WHOLE HAND WENT OVER DANIEL’S FACE and the SOUND Daniel made when that happened! Then he just THREW Daniel like he was nothing! “You bit-off more than you could chew and, now that the writing’s on the wall, you wanna surrender?! No, no, no, we are way past the time for white flags, Danny boy.” The WAY he says that! Side note: so glad Daniel got thrown a few times this season AND got to say “fuck” more than once.
Terry making Daniel punch the wall pillar thing. The quote echoing “What’re you gonna do about it?” was absolutely haunting. That question from the past seeming to both disturb and rally Daniel? His clearly mixed feelings that distracted him enough for Terry to totally take him down?! THE KICK TO THE HEAD? Like, Terry looked so damned PLEASED to see the warring emotions on Daniel’s face as the looked at his bloodied fists.
Can I just say? Daniel being so SMALL compared to Terry. Not just in, like, height but also just the fact that Terry can put his entire hand over his face. Terry can hold him down with one giant foot so easily. Terry could’ve done so much more damage, so much worse. And Daniel having to live with that knowledge? Like, I totally get why he was ready to give-up the fight. I get it. I understand. He was terrified. He was alone and made to feel so small and weak and then he gets knocked out?! Do you think he thought he’d wake up with someone who cares about him nearby? Do you think he thought he might wake up and see Terry still standing over him? Do you think he DID wake up and think that at first until he got a good look at who was really there?
The other thing is, while Terry literally gave him no other choice but to fight or “stand there and get his ass kicked,” Daniel might still feel some amount of guilt for striking first and going against what he was taught, especially after that barb: “That’s the Cobra Kai student I remember!” Like, Daniel has spent most of this show torn between fully and totally honoring Mr. Miyagi’s teachings and suppressing the part of himself that enjoyed Terry’s training methods. (Because he DID enjoy himself, especially after he broke through the wooden dummy. Gestures to this post I made ages ago about his training with Terry.)
In being so understandably hellbent on honoring Miyagi’s karate, he forgot what Mr. Miyagi said about finding his OWN karate. But then losing Mr. Miyagi clearly fucked him up real bad. It put him off-balance and he clearly never talked to anyone about it. (He almost certainly talked to Amanda but that doesn’t make the grief go away completely.)
I mean, Mr. Miyagi protected him for all of that time. He felt safe with him, especially after watching him kick Terry and Kreese’s asses without taking a single hit. To lose that protection? To lose the one person who fully understood what he went through? God, it hurts to think about.
Anyway, my point is, Daniel’s own style of karate closely mimicked Mr. Miyagi’s for so long that he forgot about finding his own style and was never really told, “It’s okay if some of what you learned from Terry stuck with you.” So, he’d certainly feel some amount of guilt after his first initial fight with Terry. Also, he was clearly terrified both during and after that fight because he felt so alone and knew it was true. It’s why he was so willing to throw in the towel and fully give-up. Forget not losing to fear, he might as well let it win. However, once he was shown that he wasn’t alone, he was able to push past his fear. And watching him beat Terry in the finale? That was the most glorious thing ever. Yes, yes, violence was heavy in this season but honestly? Daniel deserved to get to beat Terry, especially while using things he learned from Mr. Miyagi, Chozen, AND Johnny. Also, using “that crane crap” to completely take Terry out. I mean, he certainly ate those fuckin’ words, eh?

Chef’s Kiss - Part 1
Original Prompt: (From dioswry on Ao3) I’d love for it to be kk3 Terry again! I want reader definitely to be innocent and inexperienced. I thought that they’d meet at some kind fancy rich event where she got invited for smth? and that at that time she’s also friends with Daniel so she knows that Terry’s currently training him (so she obviously thinks he’s a really good guy) She’s also interested in how the training goes so Terry invites her to watch them a few times and she’d fall for him in the process. though one day she’d visit without notice and see just how brutal, aggressive and different he can be with daniel, which scares her. wouldnt mind some dojo smut to happen at the end there hehe
---
I’m happy to write this, especially for someone who gave me such a generous review of my previous Terry exploits! Sorry for the wait on this, and part 2 will be up shortly (I’m always more productive when I’m avoiding actual work I have to do!).
---
“Will you hurry up and get dressed? We’re going to be late!” your mother snaps at you, a few plastic hair curlers still on her head. You groan in annoyance at her from where you were flopped on your bed, flipping through a stack of magazines.
“Ugh, why do I have to go?” you whine petulantly. You had had this fight with both of your parents a hundred times since the summer had started, and knew that arguing wouldn’t get you anywhere, but you couldn’t help it. You didn’t want to join your family’s accounting firm, you never had, but from the moment you had finished college a few months ago, your parents had been breathing down your neck about it, and you were getting sick of it. The minute you had saved up enough from your restaurant job, you were out of here, and you couldn’t wait.
“It’s about time you start joining us in the real world, dear,” your mother says with a sigh, tossing the bag with your dress for the evening at you on the bed. You knew that your mom meant well, but you needed your independence, and refused to let them lead your life for you. Still, you suppose you could keep things civil, at least while you were still at home.
“Okay, mom. I’ll be out in a few minutes,” you concede, trying to keep your annoyance out of your voice. Your mom smiles at you, cupping your cheek fondly, careful not to muss your hair or smudge your makeup.
“Thank you, Y/N. I promise, it won’t be so bad. You could actually have fun!” she says encouragingly, leaving your room to finish her hair. Your smile fades as soon as her back is turned, and you close the door behind her. Sighing, you turn to your bed, unzipping the bag that contained your dress. It was a floor length, silk halter gown done in a deep purple, with sheer glittery fabric flowing down from your cinched waist. Well, at least you’d look nice, you thought to yourself, fingers running over the fabric fondly.
As you get dressed, you think wistfully about all the stuff you’d rather be doing tonight. Trying out something new in the kitchen that would maybe impress your boss enough to move you up from sous chef, hanging out at the beach, or learning karate moves from your new friend Danny LaRusso, who had promised to teach you some basic skills in exchange for bringing some sandwiches for lunch. Formal events in general weren’t your favourite thing, especially not with a bunch of rich strangers talking about businesses you didn’t care about. You grumble to yourself as you put your earrings on. This was going to be a long, boring night.
---
You duck behind a rose bush at the sound of approaching voices, trying to remain hidden. You had been at the event for a couple of hours now, and while you had done your best to smile and engage in polite conversation, you had needed to get away from everyone. It’s not that you were an antisocial person, but you did enjoy having time to yourself, and definitely preferred solitude to talking to people who only seemed to be seeing what they could get out of one another. So, you had decided to step off the large balcony where everyone was gathered and down the steps to the massive gardens, hoping to have a few minutes to decompress before you were missed.
You’d always loved gardens; being surrounded by nature really calmed you, especially here in L.A., where so much of everything was hot and dry and covered in pavement. This place was massive; you hadn’t seen inside the house yet, but whoever lived here certainly had excellent taste from what you had seen so far. You wandered through the rows of flower beds, stopping to smell your favourites. The sunlight was fading, and it was starting to cool off, and you knew that you should head back to the party soon, but it was so peaceful out here, and it was so nice, finally being by yourself…
“Not a fan of these rich people shindigs either, huh?”
You whirl around to find the owner of the voice – you had been sure you were alone, that had been the whole point! – to find a man standing ten feet or so behind you. He was the epitome of ‘tall, dark, and handsome’: He must be nearly six and a half feet tall, with dark, curly hair slicked back in a ponytail and brilliant blue eyes, dressed in a perfectly tailored tuxedo that emphasized his broad chest and strong arms. You realize that you haven’t replied to him yet, and instead have been staring at him, trying not to drool, and snap out of it, blushing slightly.
“Yeah, uh… this isn’t really my scene. My parents are trying to drag me into the family business and made me come today, but I really don’t think I’m cut out for this kind of life…” you reply, trailing off when you realize you’re babbling about your personal problems to a stranger.
“You get used to it,” he assures you, shrugging with his hands in his pockets as he approaches you. The height difference between you becomes even more apparent the closer he gets; you have to tilt your head up to maintain eye contact with him. “For what it’s worth, you certainly look the part,” he adds with a glint in his eyes that makes you feel warm all over, and you smile shyly up at him.
“Oh, thank you! Uh… that’s kind of you to say…” You’re not used to men paying you compliments, especially not older (you’d guess he was almost ten years older than you), wealthy men. “I’m Y/N, by the way,” you introduce yourself, feeling foolish. “Y/N L/N.” You extend your hand towards him, having to take a couple of steps back to do so, and he takes it with one of his, giving you a firm handshake, but you could tell he was being extra gentle with you.
“It’s nice to meet you, Y/N.” He closes the distance between you once more, lifting your hand to his lips to kiss the back of it, and you shiver slightly. He lowers your hand slowly, releasing it to you once more before shrugging off his suit jacket, holding it up to you – he must have mistaken your shiver for being cold. “May I?” he asks, gesturing with the jacket to your shoulders. His eyes haven’t moved from looking deeply into yours the whole time, and you don’t think you could look away if you wanted to; his eyes were hypnotizing.
It was still quite warm, but despite being inexperienced with romance, you’re not foolish enough to refuse the act of chivalry, and nod wordlessly. In a smooth motion, almost like he was embracing you, he drapes the silk-lined jacket around your shoulders. The material was so soft, and as you clutch the lapels in one hand to keep it around you, you inhale sneakily into the jacket, the scent of exotic cologne nearly making you moan in pleasure. “Better?” he asks, giving you an approving once over, and you nod shyly, nibbling your lip nervously.
“Yes, thank you,” you say, sighing happily before realizing that you don’t even know this man’s name, and he’s already got you wrapped up in his clothes. “You never gave me your name,” you say, more a statement than a question, and he looks down at you, head tilted to the side with his lips quirked.
“Call me Terry.”
“Okay. Thank you, Terry,” you say earnestly, smiling up at him. He returns the gesture before gesturing down the garden path.
“Should we head back?” he asks, and you do your best to refrain from frowning at the thought, but he definitely sees the emotion flicker across your face, and chuckles. “C’mon, we’ll take the long way,” he says, taking your hand and leading you through the garden.
You make your way slowly back to the event together, and you try to savour every moment. You had noticed that Terry moved slower, taking smaller steps to match your pace and not rush you, and had done a half dozen other chivalrous acts during the walk back. This must be what getting swept off your feet feels like, you think to yourself, biting back a smile. You didn’t really talk about yourselves during your walk, keeping the conversation light, but it had been incredibly enjoyable.
As you hear the din of voices getting louder, you shrug off his jacket reluctantly, holding it out to him. He stares at the article of clothing for a moment, as if contemplating something, and then accepts the jacket, folding it over an arm.
“I guess you have to go back to your…business talk,” you sigh, wrinkling your nose at the thought. Terry laughs at the face you’re pulling and shakes his head.
“You wanna come with me?” he asks hopefully. “It’d be nice to have a friendly face to keep me sane.”
“Oh, I don’t know, I think I’d just make things awkward, and I don’t wanna – oh, food!” you say excitedly, your eyes lighting up as you spot waiters carrying trays throughout the party. You were starving, and couldn’t help yourself, quickly putting together a plate, barely noticing Terry following you through the crowd, his soft laughter at your antics lost amongst the conversations of the other guests.
“Any good?” Terry asks, an amused twinkle in his eye as you sample the hors d’oeuvres. You shrug, trying to appear casual.
“It’s fine. The crabcakes could use more seasoning, and the bruschetta is a bit soggy.” He surveys you with an interested expression.
“You think you could do better?” he asks, leaning against the wall with his arms crossed.
You smile up at him, a little cocky, wanting to impress him a little. “Of course I could,” you reply, and you know you’re being honest. Cooking was your passion, something you were proud of, and the thought of being able to show, well, anything of value to such an impressive man was exciting to you.
“I’ll have to have a word with the kitchen staff if you aren’t satisfied with the food,” he comments, seeming to take in your horrified realization that this was his party with a great deal of enjoyment, grinning slyly down at you as your mouth falls open.
“Y-You’re the host of this party?” you stammer, feeling like an idiot. “Why didn’t you tell me?!” you ask, trying to shift the blame to distract from your own blunder. He chuckles under his breath, leaning down towards you with a reassuring hand on your upper arm.
“I couldn’t let you know I was blowing off my own party, now could I?” he says in his defence. He doesn’t seem to be bothered by your criticism at all, but you still feel the need to apologize; you are so embarrassed.
“Listen Terry, I’m so sorry, I didn’t mean to be rude.” He’s shaking his head at you before you even get the words out.
“What, are you kidding? It’s nice to talk to someone real for once, without worrying that they want something from me, y’know?” Well, you couldn’t say you didn’t want anything from him, you think to yourself, taking him in with your eyes yet again without even thinking about it.
Before you can say anything else, his hand on your shoulder trails down your arm to take your hand, causing goosebumps to run down the path his hand had taken, and with a mischievous smile, he’s tugging you into the house, his house, though it was more of a palace than any house you’d ever seen. Terry ignores your questions about where he’s taking you and leads you down hallway after hallway until you eventually just give up asking, giggling breathlessly. Eventually, he swings open a door, revealing an industrial yet lavish kitchen. He turns around suddenly, his arms crossed over his broad chest, looking down at you with a stern, challenging expression.
“It’s time for you… to prove yourself to me,” he says solemnly. An intense moment passes between you, before he breaks into a grin. “Make us some crabcakes!”
“W-What? No way!” You protest, backing away from him, but he’s too quick for you, moving between you and the door and herding you further into the kitchen.
“Hey hey, you can’t do all that big talking you did out there without the chops to back it up! C’mon, Y/N, show me what you’ve got!” He perches in one of the stools beside the kitchen counter, his chin resting on his palms, batting his eyes at you with a silly expression. You roll your eyes in return, pursing your lips at him as you considered his request. “Pleeeeease?” He’s actually pouting now, and you find yourself giving in. You think you could see yourself doing that a lot where Terry was concerned.
“Alright, alright! But you’re going to have to help me find things, ingredients and utensils and junk. That is, if you’ve even used this kitchen before, Mr. Fancypants,” you say, your hands on your hips.
“Fancypants?!” Terry repeats with mock outrage, hopping off the stool and walking over to you. “Tell me whatcha need, doll, and I’ll get it for you!”
You rattle off a list of things, and to his credit, Terry does seem to know his way around this kitchen, handing you the requested items while you organize them on the counter. Having completed his task, Terry retakes his seat on the stool. “Now… wow me!” He says, leaning back with his hands behind his head as he surveys you. You giggle at his antics, and get to work.
Being around Terry was so easy. As you prepare the crabcakes, he asks you about cooking, what experience you had, and why you liked it so much. He was so easy to talk to, and was the first person who had genuinely seemed interested in your dreams and plans for the future – and you’d only known him for a couple of hours! You would never have expected this from someone you had just met, least of all from a very successful man.
Squeezing a fresh lemon over the top of the dish, you slide the serving of crabcakes over to Terry, along with a fork. You know that they’re perfect: crispy and not soggy, fresh and flavourful, but you’re still nervous. “Bon appetit!” You announce, nodding with confidence at the dish, and Terry eagerly digs in, his fork cutting off a piece of the crabcake with a satisfying crunch.
He brings the mouthful to his lips and takes a bite. His eyes close, and he actually lets out a soft moan of pleasure, and you feel your mouth go dry at the sound, your body flushing with heat. You shake your head, trying to get yourself together before Terry opens his eyes again. You refused to be jealous of a crabcake.
“Mr. Silver, there you are!” A primly dressed yet kind-looking older woman bustles into the kitchen towards Terry. “Mr. Saran has been looking for you to discuss–”
“Tell him we’ll have to reschedule, Margaret. I’m dealing with a very important culinary emergency!” Terry cuts her off, raising an eyebrow at you playfully as he takes another bite of the crabcakes, smiling blissfully at the taste.
“Hey, don’t cancel anything important on my account!” you say worriedly, using the time he has his mouth full to try to insist he do the professional thing. You’re having a great time, and feel pretty pleased with yourself, having impressed the man so much with your culinary skills, but he really should be using his own party to network, shouldn’t he? Plus, you needed to get yourself back under control – you had let a man you’d just met whisk you into his mansion without even knowing why!
“Margaret, try this!” He ignores your protests, sliding the plate towards the woman, who immediately takes a bite. “Pretty spectacular, right?” The woman nods approvingly, giving you a kind yet curious glance that you don’t know how to interpret as she finishes the mouthful.
“Wonderful, much better than the caterers for today. I’ll go and schedule something with Mr. Saran for next week then, Mr. Silver,” she says, looking between you two and excusing herself tactfully, leaving the two of you alone in the kitchen once more.
“See? Margaret is my most trusted employee, and I can count on her to be honest about everything. Your food is great!” He praises you again, but you suddenly find yourself distracted by something Margaret had said.
“Wait, your last name is Silver? You’re Terry Silver?” Terry’s smile fades slightly as you say his full name.
“Yeah, what’s it to you?” He’s trying to keep his tone light, but you think he gives you a calculating look.
“You’re helping my friend with his karate! Daniel LaRusso?” You ask, and you see him look relieved at your response.
“Oh, you know Danny Boy? That’s great!” He’s enthusiastic once more, his face breaking into a wide smile as he finishes his plate. “I hope you’re feeding him, too; the kid’s too small. He could use some of your cooking!”
“Yeah, we’ve got a deal; I make him sandwiches, and he teaches me a few moves,” you say, karate chopping the air with a grin.
“Hey, can I get in on that?” He asks standing to go put his plate in the sink. You laugh at his back, turning and leaning against the counter.
“Oh, come on! I’m sure you have an army of professional chefs at your disposal, you don’t need my silly sandwiches.” Terry turns, raising an eyebrow at you.
“And what if I’d rather have your silly sandwiches?” He asks coyly, closing the distance between you with a few long strides, boxing you in with his hands on either side of you on the counter. You’re forced to lean back to look up at him, and fight the urge to lick your lips.
“Umm…I…” you stammer, finding it difficult to form a sentence when he’s this close to you. He cocks his head to one side, his piercing eyes locked with yours as he seems to drink in every detail of your face.
“C’mon, Y/N, this would give us an excuse to see each other again,” he says, and his voice is just so persuasive, pulling you into him. “Plus, you could learn some training from a real sensei and not some kid! I’d be happy to teach you a thing or two…” He trails off, and you’re sure you’re not imagining the innuendo. You swallow, feeling your face getting hot.
“Fine, you win!” You make a show of rolling your eyes and ducking under his arm to get some space, trying to save a bit of dignity as you give in to his request. No one had ever made you feel like this before, like you were playing with fire and only wanting to get closer. Terry gives you a pleased smile, leaning back against the counter with his hands in his pockets, not seeming bothered by you worming your way out of his clutches.
“Hey… LaRusso doesn’t know about, well, all this,” Terry says, gesturing around him. “I didn’t want to intimidate him, right? Do you think you can keep this between us?” He steps into your personal space yet again, looking down at you with a pleading expression, blue eyes shining, and you once again feel the urge to agree with whatever he says, nodding silently.
“Thanks, doll!” He gives you a bright grin, relishing in his victory. “I’ll see you and your silly sandwiches in a couple of days then?” He seems genuinely excited at the thought, and you find yourself smiling back at him goofily.
“I’ll try to keep Daniel from eating them all, but you’d better hope you train me fast so I can fight him off!” You call back to him as you leave the kitchen, going to find your parents. You’d have to get yourself under control and keep yourself from breaking out into the brilliant smile you felt bubbling up inside you by the time you returned to the party.
“I’ll train you so fast it’ll make your head spin,” Terry says quietly after you, his words echoing in the empty room as he stares at the door you’ve exited through.
---
Over the next couple of weeks, you visit the dojo with Danny every day, a large basket of sandwiches and a thermos of lemonade in your arms. Daniel seems happy to have you there, a little eager to show off to you – his young age really showed when he did things like that.
Terry was similarly pleased, and you had gotten closer during your time together. He looked so different out of his tuxedo, in his karate gi or jeans and a sweatshirt when he wasn’t training to keep up his “disguise,” but he was no less attractive to you. You understood his desire to keep his true identity hidden from Danny, remembering how your own behaviour to him had switched when you’d found out who he was at the party. You had seemed to develop a good relationship with him since you started coming to the dojo, and found it a lot more comfortable than the formal setting you’d met at.
When you weren’t at the dojo or working the night shift at the restaurant, you were looking out for Daniel. More than once, Terry had thrown some money at you, and asked if you could go get some basic medical supplies to help patch Daniel up, and you were more than happy to help. You knew that his focus should be on Daniel, so you did what you could, not only helping to take care of the boy at the dojo, but helping him keep his training a secret from his mentor, Mr. Miyagi. You didn’t like the idea of lying to someone so kind and generous, but Daniel was an adult and able to make his own decisions, and you couldn’t bring yourself to do the right thing if it meant an end to your time with Terry.
Learning some karate from Terry had been fun; he had initially taken to showing you a few moves in a separate part of the dojo once he had assigned an exercise to Daniel in the main training area. Daniel needed to learn to rely on himself to focus, and not his sensei, Terry had explained to you one day as he was correcting your form, his hands lingering on your hips a little longer than necessary.
But then he had kissed you for the first time, and all thoughts of learning karate had left your mind. He had asked you to practice a new move he’d taught you on him, but after going through the drill a few times you had stopped, squaring off against each other. You had a light sheen of sweat across your body, panting heavily with your hair messy, and caught Terry looking at you, his eyes darkening to a shade of deep blue. You found yourself frozen in place as he stared, your chest pounding, forgetting to breathe altogether as your heartbeat thudded in your ears. You go to open your mouth – to ask what he’s looking at, to breathe, to do or say anything – but before you can he’s stalked toward you, his feet silent on the floor, moving so quickly and smoothly you’d thought your eyes were playing tricks on you. And then he’s grabbing the back of your head, fingers tangled in your hair, and pulling you face up to his, kissing you desperately with a passion you had never imagined before, let alone felt.
Your brain hadn’t been able to respond to the kiss, but your body had, gasping into his mouth and wrapping your arms around his neck, kissing him back until you were dizzy. Panting for air, Terry gave you a wicked grin that further served to take your breath away, before pulling you closer again.
Since that kiss, you had kept up the pretense of learning karate from Terry while Daniel was otherwise occupied, but really Terry would have you tucked in a corner at the other side of the dojo, teasing your body with his talented fingers until you were a trembling moaning mess. Terry would cover your mouth with his own, swallowing your moans and whimpers hungrily through the kiss, before shushing you, reminding you that Danny Boy was right on the other side of the wall and that you had to be quiet. He would watch you as you tried to compose yourself, his eyes glittering in amusement and with more than a hint of dark desire as he resumed his teasing, a strong hand ghosting upwards underneath your shirt and plucking at your hard nipples, making you squirm on his lap, his other hand coming up to cover your mouth, muffling your moans.
A few times you had come close to getting caught, and were embarrassed, but you couldn’t help but come back for more. Terry seemed to know this, starting to get more blatant with his attraction towards you, staring at you over Danny’s head as he guided him through attacking the training dummy and licking his lips suggestively, making you blush as a wave of heat ran through your body. Fortunately, you were able to chalk it up to the hot L.A. summer, and Daniel remained oblivious. Thank God for the naivety of youth, you thought to yourself, feeling your face go red as Terry’s lips closed around a strawberry, managing to make even an innocent lunch sexual. You’d have to be more careful about what food you brought, or he was going to drive you mad.
---
A few days before the tournament, you turn the corner to the dojo, a picnic basket in hand. You hadn’t accompanied Daniel over the past few days, insisting that he needed Terry’s full attention, but mainly you felt like you needed a break from the near-constant seduction to get a clear head. You had thought it over, and you were done with stealing kisses in the dark, and you were going to tell Terry. You didn’t need flowers or chocolates, or even for him to commit to you, but you were definitely over sneaking around Daniel; he was still a kid, after all. You were ready to give yourself over to him if he wanted you to, and to do that you needed privacy so that you were fully able to succumb to the feelings he was able to elicit from you. So, you had prepared a meal for the three of you for what would hopefully be the last time, and resolved to sneak into the dojo, set up your meal, and at some point take Terry aside and tell him what you needed. Shivering as your mind conjured up images of what you two could finally get up to alone, you walked down the alley and silently slipped through the unlocked back door to Cobra Kai.
Setting the picnic basket down on the table, you quietly start to set the table, when you hear Daniel let out a pained scream. Unable to help yourself, you tiptoe to the door to the main part of the dojo, peeking around the corner to make sure the boy was alright.
What you see horrifies you.
Daniel is wincing, his knuckles covered in blood, and Terry snatches up one of his wrists, bringing the bleeding fist closer to Daniel’s face.
“It’s blood. So what? Make believe it’s his!” Terry’s voice is harsh, and what you can see of his face through the door is cruel, and a bit maniacal. He guides Daniel towards a wooden dummy with a hand on his shoulder, and gestures up to the dummy’s head, where a flyer with another boy’s face has been glued.
“This guy wants to break you, humiliate you, stomp you into the ground!” Terry yells, and you feel your stomach roil with disgust. Was this how Terry had been training Daniel when you weren’t around? What had gotten into him?
“-And what are you gonna do about it?” Terry screams at Daniel, and you hear a loud thud as the boy strikes at the dummy, whimpering slightly at the pain to his already-damaged hands.
“You’re gonna need to learn to push past the pain, Mr. LaRusso,” Terry says, looking down at Daniel mercilessly. “I expect you to have done so by the time I come back.”
With that, Terry walks away from the boy, coming down the hall towards you. Panicking, you crouch down in the corner, hidden by a stack of unused mats, and clasp both hands over your mouth, trying desperately to not make a sound.
Terry enters the kitchen, keeping the door to the rest of the dojo open and standing with his back to the wall. He’s listening intently for something, and you stop breathing, thinking he’s heard you, but then noises come from the dojo – the sound of Danny’s hands and feet making contact with the solid wood, and his cries of pain – and Terry laughs under his breath, his eyes bright and his smile terrifying. He was enjoying Daniel’s suffering!
You feel your heart start to break, but it’s overwhelmed by the panic as you start to consider what will happen if Terry finds you. Terry stops laughing suddenly, his eyes moving elsewhere in the kitchen, and you follow his gaze to the kitchen table to your partially-unpacked picnic basket. He knew you were here. You force your eyes to flick back to him, trembling with fear, and are only partially surprised to see that his icy blue eyes are on you.
Your mouth falls open, and you try to make a sound – to explain yourself, to call out for Daniel – but nothing comes out but a faint squeak. He takes a silent step towards you, and you manage to scramble up to your feet, trying to make for the back door, but Terry’s arm instantly wraps around your waist, fully lifting you off the ground and clutching you to his chest, his other hand clamping down over your mouth and nose, silencing you completely and cutting off your airways.
You let out a muffled cry, knowing that Daniel won’t hear but hope that Terry might recognize you begging him to stop, and your legs kick out desperately against his shins. He doesn’t growl audibly, but you feel a rumble in his chest as he sets your feet on the ground. He releases your waist, but you’re too terrified to move, hyperventilating against his hand as he keeps your head in place.
Calm as can be, Terry gathers your hair over one of your shoulders, pressing a kiss to the flesh of your neck before replacing it with two fingers. The pressure on that spot on your neck combined with the lack of oxygen is going to make you pass out, and that seems to be Terry’s intent.
“You’re gonna thank me for this, Y/N,” Terry whispers into your ear as your vision goes black.

(On S5 and the tragedy of Daniel LaRusso)
As @variousqueerthings and I were talking about, Cobra Kai is written by hardcore Johnny fanboys. This is not inherently a bad thing (me, I'm looking at me I'm the Johnny fan).
But yeah, it means we've seen some iffy Daniel writing. We've seen Daniel written as: petty (the rent raising), jumping to conclusions (the miyagi do trashing being Johnny's brainchild), hurtful (lookin at you Robby) but the one thing his character has always been constant about is: violence is a last resort.
The thing that struck me most about this season was how this show, ostensibly drawn from roots of No Be There, has finally taken that dreaded U turn to glorifying No Mercy.
Because isn't that what they did with Daniel? A boy - who defeated not one but three examples of Might is Right, and two of No Mercy - that boy, caving to those philosophies? After Chozen even taught him a Miyagi Do pressure point method of "take away the ability to wage war"?
I've read analyses of Daniel's fight against Silver which paint using the Quicksilver method in a slightly better light. And they make for a good read. But.
But.
TKK3 was about Terry forcing Daniel to do violence. In the club, in the AVT match. "From the moment I met you, I've been making you do things you don't want to do." And then the writers made Daniel do it again.
If Johnny's themes are about breaking out of the cycle of violence/no mercy, Daniel's themes are pacifism and finding a better way.
The trouble is, the writers took pacifism to be "back down from a fight", and in a schoolyard bully taunt sort of way (yes i see the irony). Which is so tragically oversimplified. Richard Kamen managed to show us what it is in one line, where Daniel asks Mr. Miyagi "You could've killed him, couldn't you?" And Mr. Miyagi said yes.
Mr. Miyagi's pacifism came from having seen the long lasting evil violence inflicts, and the Might is Right being inherently useless in the end. This is a man who survived the war, and the internment camps. He knows violence and its hurts.
The thing is, pacifism means more than "I dont want to fight you". It means, "I can fight you. But I choose not to, because it will gain us both nothing". Again, Mr. Miyagi karate chopping the head of a bottle, so that the racists would understand that fighting would gain them nothing.
But our writers ignored that and took Daniel - horribly wronged (not once, but twice) Daniel. A Daniel who'd struggled for four seasons to live up to Mr. Miyagi's ideals because he believed in them. They took that Daniel and had him win against Silver in a beatdown. Not even using the "take away the ability to wage war" method in S3, no he took the thing he hated most about himself in TKK3. And he enacted violence using the way Terry had taught him ("I've been making you do things you don't want to, Danny boy).
So who really won? I know who lost. The man who said "no passion before principle", "Before revenge, dig two graves". The man who hated the idea of "No Mercy".
It's one thing to show Daniel winning against Silver, God knows Silver needed comeuppance. But to take the karate kid, the boy who forgave Johnny Lawrence (the telling absence of Billy's touchstone for that character "You're alright, LaRusso!"). The boy who honked Chozen's nose, and gained a valuable friend and ally decades later for it. To take that boy and have him hurt Silver (in the way Silver taught him to hurt people) and feel only vindication... That was the poorest, cheapest way to show Daniel win.
They misunderstood and laughed at Mr. Miyagi's "defense only" karate until the only way to show Daniel as strong and righteous and victorious was to use the way of the fist. And if that isn't tragic I don't know what is.
Guess all the No Mercy merch makes more sense now, so sorry Mr. Kamen :/

Can you do when we are in an argument with Daniel larusso and he hurts us ck and kk3
Thank you for your request anon 🖤 Of course I can 🙏
(kk3) I was on my way to Terry when I walked past Daniel LaRusso and his friend. "Oh look isn't that Silvers girlfriend? What are you doing here?" he asked "God I'm just passing by LaRusso chill." I said and turned to leave but he grabbed me by my arm. "Hey let go, what the fuck do you want from me?" I tried to get his hand off of me "How can you love someone like him? He's manipulative and a maniac. You should leave him as soon as possible if you know what's good for you." I got angry "Don't talk about him like that. You don't know him like I do. Just mind your own business." with that I pushed him away from me. But before I knew it he swept my leg and I fell to the ground. I heard a loud crack and felt a strong pain in my wrist that brought me to tears. LaRusso and the girl were gone. I got up and made my way to Terry holding my wrist that turned blue and started swelling. "Hey babe what took you..." but he stopped when he saw my wrist. "Oh shit baby what happened? Who did this to you I swear..." "I met Daniel LaRusso on my way. I just wanted to come here but he stopped me and he said so many mean things about you. I pushed him and he swept my leg that I fell on my wrist. It hurts so much Terry." I saw Terrys expression getting dark. "I kill that kid I swear. But I'll take you to the hospital first. I hope your wrist isn't broken. Come baby let's get you checked up."
(CK) I was getting groceries for dinner tonight and on my way to my car when suddenly another car came from the side and hit my cart." Can't you just look where you're going? " sounded a familiar voice. I looked in the direction and saw Daniel LaRusso. "Where I'm going? Maybe you should watch where you're driving you almost hit me!" He got out of his car and now stood right in front of me. " Just because you're fucking Terry Silver doesn't mean you get away with everything." he said. " Excuse me? You were the one that almost hit me with his car like a fucking maniac!" I yelled and before I could react he grabbed me by the collar and pushed me hard into the other carts." You should watch your mouth when you're talking to me. Next time I'm not so friendly. " with that he let go and I fell to the ground. My back hurt like hell and I needed a few moments before one of the employees helped me up. I called Terry and after a few minutes he arrived." My love what happened? How do you feel? " he pulled me into his arms. "Oh Terry I was getting groceries and Daniel LaRusso almost hit me with his car on my way outside. We started arguing and he pushed me against the carts. My back hurts really bad." Terry looked at me concerned. "Come sweetheart I'll take you a doctor just to be sure you're alright. LaRusso will pay for what he did to you I promise you."

Any LaBarnes meta?
I love talking about Mike, so yes.
This dynamic is so good because, from Daniel's perspective, Mike is probably both his worst rival and his best at the same time.
Mike had no beef with Daniel the way Johnny and Chozen did; he was being paid to act like that, and well, he's a little like Angel Eyes in that way. But if you watch his interactions with Snake and Dennis, he treats them like his little flunkies sometimes, and that suggests that he's only putting up with them because Terry's making him rather than enjoying their company. Mike strikes me as a lone wolf type who minds his own business, and I honestly can't think of a scenario where he would beef with Daniel if he wasn't literally being paid to. Snake even says "He's usually a mellow guy". Of course he definitely goes overboard at times too, but well, with a reputation as "bad boy/tournament terror" no one's accusing him of being an entirely stable individual lmao.
And btw, I love the moment where Daniel is punching him and Mike is just like, "Don't do that." Who else would just tell someone not to hit them instead of immediately hitting them back?
Plus this???
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Porn parody dialogue tbh..free my man Kreese.
Now onto CK and Daniel's immediate thought at "a friend of Silver's" is Mike fucking Barnes. And it's so funny how unhinged Daniel acts with Terry and Mike vs his first interactions with Johnny, Chozen, and even Kreese. Like when he sees him and tells Chozen that Mike tried to kill him once and "you don't forget or forgive something like that. except you!" but then it gets funnier when Daniel actually meets him and gets to experience that "mellow" side of Mike, and he instantly changes his tune. And the flirty behavior between them is off the charts.
"You're looking good there!"/"Left side, like you like."
Mike was so quick to apologize and then so quick to believe Daniel when he told him he wasn't responsible for the fire. He didn't want to get involved in the fight, but he did immediately give the name of the lawyer in an attempt to help Daniel. Who's doing it like him?? The best heel-face turn in the franchise

Could I request a KK3/CK Terry scenario where he's broken into our house for some sleuthing and we catch him in the act?
---
To clarify, I mean when he's sneaking around like he does in KK3 where he breaks into Miyagi's house to gain info on him and Daniel. I don't see him being friends with the reader, but maybe they've just started dating?
I shall try my best anon 😁💚
Things had been a little off for you recently, you had someone break into your house while you were at work one day, and it seemed they managed to get away with a few of your expensive lamps from the living room. Thankfully that was all they took, no valuables or things like TVs and consoles because before they could try to take them, you arrived home and called the police. Only one of the 3 guys was arrested because the other 2 managed to escape, but it was still a bad time you had gone through. You had been with your new boyfriend Terry for a few months now, and when you told him about this he was furious. You felt safe enough with him to give him a spare key to your home, incase of an emergency like the break in happening again. He swore to protect you, so knowing his fighting skills, if they were to return, he could kick their #sses.
One night you were snuggled up in bed upstairs, reading a book with your bedside lamp on, when you heard a thudding noise downstairs. You shot up straight away in your bed, frightened that they had come back. It made it even worse when you realise your phone is downstairs so you couldn't call Terry. Sh#t, you thought to yourself, you slowly and quietly climbed out of bed and reached under your mattress, pulling out a cricket bat. At least you had something you could hit them over the head with when you left the bedroom, it still didn't make you feel less scared. You walk down tne stairs as slowly as you could, trying your hardest not to make a noise. And in doing that, you could hear where the person was, in the living room. Your heart is racing, you feel like your going to pass out, but you weren't going to let this happen again.
Tumblr media
"Get the f#ck out of my house!!!" You scream as you jump into the room brandishing the cricket bat. "Woh woh Y/N! It's me! Its Terry!" "What the f- Terry?" "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to scare you-" "Terry what the f#ck is wrong with you! What are you doing in my house?!" "I'm sorry baby, I was just installing this" He said pointing to a security alarm system. "Didn't you think to do this when it was day time!? When i knew you would be coming!? Instead of pretty much doing the most ironic thing and breaking into my home just like those men did?!" "I didn't break in, I used the key you gave me" "Terry you are just digging a bigger hole for yourself hear!" "Alright alright I'm sorry, I honestly didn't mean to frighten you. Just put down the bat ok?" Your still angry, but you throw it down into the sofa. "Give me the key Terry" "I was only trying to-" "I said give me the key Terry! Now!" He looks quite put out, but he completely understood why you feel that way.
He hands you the key "I'll call you when I'm ready, now please leave" "I'm sorry Y/N....I'm going now" You walk him to the door and lock it behind him, making sure before going to bed to check every window and door twice. You texted Terry the morning after and told him you need a few days by yourself, he understood and agreed not to come around and see you until you were ready. During that time, you take a look at the security stuff he left behind, and your suprised how advanced and high tech it is. It's very expensive and it's a very popular and well reviewed piece of kit, it seemed he tried to get the best for you. You didn't forget what happened, you understood why he wanted to set it up, but he didn't go about it in the right way.
You gave him a call and asked if he was available to come around for a chat, he said yes and within 20 minutes, he arrived at your place. Your both sat in the living room as you talk about what happened. "I know I shouldn't have come in during the night Y/N, that was stupid of me. It was just the only time I had available and I wanted to make sure your house was safe" "You can understand why I am upset though right? After the real thing happened, I felt terrified that it had happened again, and you know how badly I was affected before" "I know, I didn't think you would be awake" "And is that suposed to make me feel better?" "No i just, I just didn't think about that at the time, I should have told you in the first place" "You've apologised to me, and I accept your apology. But you can understand why I wont allow you to have my spare key again" "Yes I do"
"Good" "So, is there anything I can do to help earn your trust again?" "I do trust you Terry, but if you want to prove it and help me feel safer....you can install this safety kit. NOW that I'm awake and I KNOW that your hear" You smile at eachother and share a little giggle. "Of course I will do that. And again, I'm so sorry for what I did" "Just put the safety system up Terry, and if you keep apologising like this, I'll have to think of another way to keep that mouth of yours busy..." "Ohhhh, I quite like the sound of that"

Some wonky things about Cobra Kai S5 that just hit me like a brick over the head:
― The villains being shown as childless, family-less and ultimately loveless. They’re The Others. It is only the heroes and those on the path of redemption who have or will have families, found families, actual friends (they don’t have to bribe or buy), offspring (adoptive or otherwise) and committed significant others.
― The grounded, nuanced representation of Terry Silver we were promised somehow boiled down to an age old stereotype of a youth-corrupting, greedy, materialistic, manipulative, snake emblematic, wealthy, sleazy Jewish man who wants to take over the world and ‘Steal the soul of The Valley’. In 2022, year of our Lord.
― The characters morals and ethics are ultimately measured by their proximity to either Daniel Larusso and Johnny Lawrence as the sole arbitraries of all good, proper values respectively. If you’re on the side of all things right, you’re either on the track of being on their side, or merely getting there.
― Women are mothers and girlfriends, and sometimes, when we want to supposedly up the anti and shake up the diversity, they’re also angry Asian Dragon Lady tropes --- who is also single, by the way. Because no heroic person is ever left unpaired with someone else and when they are left single, they’re going through a Dark Night of The Soul, the way Sam and Tory respectively did.
― Johnny Lawrence more than ever before being posed as the model of old timey, bygone 80′s masculinity and ideals and getting endless do-overs, second, third and fourth chances and rewards over literally doing the bare minimum and sometimes not even that much, with his character arc progressing backwards so much, he is literally a comedic caricature of his former self.
― Sometimes violence is bad and sometimes it is okay and even justified. Really depends who does it. If someone bad does it, then clearly, it is bad, and if someone good does it, then it is conveniently forgotten about, pushed under the rug, made light of, glossed over and scrapped as a plot-point.
― The complex, layered friendship between John and Terry being revised in such a weird, inconsistent fashion where Johnny Lawrence, is yet again, inserted in the midst of them as the one ‘John cared for more’ to once more, distance John from Terry and bring him closer on the moral scale to the ‘side of right’ by him having just a teeny, tiny bit of attachment more to the prime model arbitrary of the show.
― The original pacifist heart and message of the whole franchise somehow culminated in an overblown sword vs sai duel one on one, Daniel pulverizing his foe in front of an audience in an elaborate humiliation conga, in an all out chaotic battle where everyone fought everyone on a big messy, violent pile and yet only Terry Silver got apprehended and nobody got questioned and at this point, this is all about as pacifist as a nuclear explosion.
― The importance of everything oscillating wildly and bizarrely depends where the plot needs it to be and depending who gets the sympathetic spotlight this time around. Last season, Terry was suffering from war flashbacks and obviously unhealed, suppressed trauma that has haunted him all his life. This season, he says he never had to scrape for anything (not even through Vietnam and a POW camp?). This season, we also get Samantha’s trauma nightmare nexus treated with the seriousness Terry doesn’t get.
― Cobra Kai (the evil guys) still being the most diverse of dojos, of course and don’t get me started about the lack of any other sexuality other than straight.

Hey my name is Quin. Omg I love your Terry/Daniel fics. Do you think one day you could write a fic where Terry is a jerk to everyone but Daniel and everyone is shocked Daniel and Terry start dating. I was wondering do you have any season 5 meta to post about Terry and Daniel. There s5 storyline reminds of exes who are still hung up on each other in a crazy way its crazy passionate toxic and Terry and Daniel obsess over each other. All of there scenes were. Terry Definitely can't let go of his Danny Boy especially since Danny can't forgive him for what Terry did to him in KK3. It's just amazing all the hot crazy chemistry Thomas and Ralph have great chemistry after all these years. Sorry for rambling.
Hi Quin *waves*
Thank you so much 🥰 I’m glad you like them.
You know, I’ve never had an idea for it but if one came to mind I would 💯 write it / I have no actual process really - just whatever flashes in my brian and then it’s all written down - sometimes all over the place - and then pieced together in somewhat cohesive manner after.
I have thought that an AU - dark comedy style - for that would be funny.
Like everyone sees it but Daniel.
At a dinner one night / Daniel there with Silver as his plus one - he doesn’t think anything of it as he attends all these types of events with Terry (is usually always at the older man’s side for anything really) but he always just thinks he’s there as mentor/student (boy was a bit dense back then / that’s for sure canon 😆).
But he’s in a bad mood tonight and so he’s been grumpy all night, grumbling and pouting - Think him in KK2 in the blue suit / pouting prettily.
But when he finally snaps at Terry, folding his thin arms over an equally narrow chest, everyone holds their breath - afraid they’re about to witness a murder - NO ONE talks to Terry like that.
But Terry just smiles- he loves his boy regardless but esp when he’s being prickly - he does so love to encourage the bad behaviour.
To everyone’s FURTHER astonishment, Terry just soothes him / “a few more minutes and we’ll leave, I promise. Can you do that for me.”
Grumbling out, “fine. I’m getting a another drink though,” stomping off.
And Terry is just the epitome of the little heart eyes emoji as he watches his back depart into the crown - AND everyone can see it.
There was always gossip around them but now it’s in overdrive.
They figured Terry was fucking him - although there is a pool among the people in their circles if it’s even happened yet - but wherever this thing is they have between them, it’s been going on for longer than Terry’s reputation usually allows / he’s never with one person for too long.
But now people are wondering has Terry Silver met his match / is he in love.
Seems to be / he would never take this behaviour from anyone. There is a reason he’s to be respected (and feared).
Enter 80’s style ridiculous plot of someone using this for their advantage - kidnapping Daniel for ransom or to blackmail Terry etc
Terry gets him back of course / personally rescuing him, and of course it’s then that Terry finally admits his feelings and makes Daniel his 😏
I don’t have much meta / I don’t analyze much too deeply - not my strong suit at all, but I will sometimes add things to gif sets (as long as I know the person is a fine with Silverusso) or add on to discussions.
Sometimes I’ll do a post here and there but they usually aren’t too long, or if someone shoots me an ask of a specific thing.
I’ve actually been reblogging and posting for season five more than any other - mainly because it gave us so much. ALTHOUGH season four gave us the glorious mini mart scene and apology scene, which just means so much more now that TIG has made those comments about wanting to be loved and be Daniel’s friend - honourable mention the AVT eye fucking.
They are very very much still hung up on each other.
Like Amanda said when Jessica said Daniel moved on / He really hasn’t though, has he? - just thought he did probably (and we all know Daniel dealing with things is to not really address them - out of sight out of mind - cough cough Miyagi’s room scene ripping my heart out).
That’s why Seeing Terry jars him so (same way seeing the cobra Kai sign did) - it makes him deal with that and the nice neat little box labelled Terry DO NOT TOUCH in the deep part of his brain comes flying open and the ghosts go for the throat.
You can see it on Daniel’s face as soon as he sees Terry / bless Ralph’s acting.
To me, from a ship perspective, them seeing each other to me is the epitome of time melting away / like the last 35 years between them (of separation) never happened. Daniel is back in his sights and that’s all that matters.
Their chemistry is amazing / and a lot of KK3 is because of them.
The script was a hot mess so the actors themselves were just coming up with ways to flesh out the character and relationship - to make it make sense - and fill the scenes - bless.
Plus - the two events we’ve seen them interact at - Thomas always seems genuinely happy to see Ralph / big soft smile, squeezing hand on Ralph’s shoulder (so we know that that move in KK/CK is in there due to Thomas - it’s natural to squeeze the twink), and hugs 😻
And there was Ralph’s little, “hello Thomas,” on a video a while back where like 50 people were part of it.
All these BTS photos coming out / I need some of them so bad and of course a BTS video of them practising and shooting the fight scene.
Thanks for the ask

8 Shows To Know Me
Thank you @maplefiasco for tagging me *months* ago 🙈 Do check her post for excellent shows recommendations!
If you see this post on your dash, please consider yourself (no-pressure) tagged, whether we’re in a follower, mutual or complete strangers situation :)
Coming up with "shows to know me" was more challenging that I thought? In the end I chose shows I have often rewatched and that never fail to cheer me up. In no particular order:
Remington Steele
Tumblr media
This show is a delight and a half. For years growing up it was on channel 3 in France every summer, and every rewatch makes me feel like the happiest teenager. Expect RayBans and vintage cars, because this is 80s LA with an Old Hollywood, Spencer Tracy/Katharine Hepburn inspiration. Unfortunately it's become impossible to find in Europe/France, and my entire family laments this fact on a monthly basis.
The Newsroom
Tumblr media
If you get one thing out of this post, it’s to give The Newsroom a try. Not everyone loves Sorkin, in fact several of my friends hate this show, but I LOVE it. It’s chaotic. It’s fast. It’s idealistic. Everyone is a genius at their job and an idiot in their personal life. And the cast! Emily Mortimer, Jeff Daniels and Sam Waterston are superb! Olivia Munn and Thomas Sadoski are spectacular! Dev Patel and David Harbour are delightful! And the supporting cast - Jane Fonda! Chris Messina! Terry Crews! BJ Novak! Only this show would make me use so many adjectives and exclamation marks.
Hart of Dixie
Tumblr media
This is my guilty pleasure, “won’t tell people about it because they’ll think I’m a basic bitch" show. It’s super cozy, the clothes are great, the dudes are hot, there’s a pet alligator called Burt Reynolds, the folksy-country soundtrack is fun, everyone is nice and walks around the WBros PLL and Gilmore Girls lot fake southern town with a pastry and home-baked pie in hand, and nothing really bad ever happens. Truly the happiest of basic bitch shows.
The Marvelous Mrs Maisel
Tumblr media
I ignored Mrs Maisel for years because I’m not a big stand up or 50s style person, but it turned out to be one of the shows that’s made me laugh the most in the history of shows. It’s funny, it’s warm and it does more for Jewish humour than most pieces of media (The Nanny is the exception) since Annie Hall’s Easter lunch scene. I didn’t care much for s4 (style really took over content for me) and s5 is.. well I just don’t know how they explain a lot of those choices there. But man, s1-2 is something I would (and will) happily rewatch on a regular basis.
Friends It’s not original, it's "90s diverse" but sue me. I’m old enough to have watched it with my siblings when it first came out (VHS, baby!) and it’ll never not feel cozy and fun. I won’t catch it on tv because ad breaks will reduce it to unfunny, memeable catchphrases, but every few years I’ll pop a couple of seasons in the dvd player (DVDs, baby!) and it’ll still make me laugh like it’s my first time watching it.
Arrested Development
Tumblr media
Do I need to explain? Yes s4 was half good/half bad when it was released (and somehow made mostly bad when it was re-edited) and I pretend s5 doesn’t exist. But seasons 1-3 are the definition of perfect tv! And in case you didn’t know, Jason Bateman and Will Arnett host a podcast (along with Sean Hayes of Will and Grace) called Smartless; the episode with Tony Hale (Buster) as the guest had me in literal tears.
Chuck
Tumblr media
There’s a scene where Chuck’s best friend Morgan says that he’s spent years devising a work system that allows him to do as little as possible at his job, and he’s not about to ruin that by accepting a promotion. My entire family quotes this on a regular basis. I have watched s1-3 at least half a dozen times and just typing that makes me want to watch it again. Love the music, the ridiculous spy adventures and the unhinged background characters. Also Chuck looks exactly like one of my high school best friends which makes it even funnier.
24
Tumblr media
LOOK. I did not expect this show to take over my life the way it did, and tbh I don’t really have an 8th show that hits both “will rewatch this many times” and “makes me feel warm and happy”. So I went for the one that currently has 12 drafts sitting in my fic folder. It’s violent and ridiculous and is equally funny (see ridiculous) and angsty. It got me through the 2nd lockdown, on the edge of my seat while live texting all nearly ten seasons of it to friends. But watch s1-4 and tell me you’re normal about Tony x Michelle. I dare you.

Characters Analysis: Chozen Toguchi and Mike Barnes
Chozen Toguchi and Mike Barnes
Tumblr media
Yuji Okumoto’s Chozen Toguchi and Sean Kanan’s Mike Barnes had great reintroductions into the Cobra Kai series. They both came in as  well adjusted adults compared to their younger “psychotic selves.” Enjoy them or not, as people, they have went on powerful journeys.
Chozen Toguchi
Tumblr media
Early Life:
Tumblr media
As a child, Chozen was left in the care of his uncle after his father’s death due to him being a coward. Chozen has been taught to value honor above all else. Honestly, psychologically engrave into him. Unfortunately Chozen inherited his father’s cowardice leading him to cheat his way in life to avoid the risk of losing that honor. His only known friend back then was Kumiko, they played for years and developed bond over. Possibly he was close to with her due to his home life.
Karate Kid Part II:
Tumblr media
Then came in Daniel-San. He got everything Chozen worked for. He has the full honor from Mr. Miyagi that he had to earn from Sato. It was the thing he value the most in life, it made him angry and insecure. Also Daniel getting the girl he was in love with, that sounds familiar. Daniel saving Yuna and helping with Sato while Chozen, who understandably was afraid, backed away from the risk. But due to the person he turned into, Sato considered him to be dishonorable, so he disowned him, taking away his honor, the thing he has been afraid of his entire life. With the one thing that gave him the meaning of life now gone. He now has no reason to consider the consequences of what he did. He only had anger and vengeance toward the person that made him lose his honor. With his honor gone, his humanity was practically remove from him. This made him willing to kill the one person that he loved just to get at the “source”.
After KK2:
Tumblr media
After Daniel-San showed his honor by sparing Chozen, he lived long enough to see the impact that his actions had made to the people around him. Everyone saw Chozen as the monster that he was to Daniel. This is like with Sato, but hundreds of times worse. Unlike with Sato, Chozen has nothing to blame for this but himself. Having more time to process what he did, he realized how awful his crimes were. He trashed a happy day for the people, made  them witness a potential murder, and tried to kill the woman he supposedly loved, all just to get back at someone that barely deserved his wrath. Chozen is back at his childhood self, alone, but this time, he was completely alone. He had no one to really help him learn to be better.  His uncle already saw him as dishonorable, Kumiko probably will never forgive him for trying to murder her, and everyone sees him as a monster. How would he live with himself? He came to the conclusion, he can’t live with himself after everything he has done. So he decided for the sake of everyone, he wanted to kill himself. But before he could, the thing he needed his entire life came to him, the love of his uncle. Knowing his uncle still cared about him, this gave him the motive to give himself another chance. This motive later increased, when the love of his life “found him again.”
Mike Barnes
Tumblr media
Early LIfe:
Tumblr media
Although not much is known about Barnes’ background some people have drawn he has a similar background to the Cobra Kai’s Female Champion, Tory Nichols, from his main trait and motive for what he did.
What we do know, he was a national champion of Karate, being a high blackbelt and earning the name, “Karate’s Bad Boy.”
Karate Kai Part III:
Tumblr media
When we’re first introduced to Mike Barnes, he was a national champion, who seemed like the perfect person for Sensei Terry Silver to torment his enemy, Daniel LaRusso. He was promise was 50% of the dojo if he terrorize this other kid for Silver.
Through the movie, he terrorize the hell out of  Daniel LaRusso to the point where he and his sensei Mr. Miyagi were drifting a part. He ruined his bonsai tree shop, sold the trees, assaulted him twice, assault his good friend, Jessica Andrews, threaten to kill him and Jessica if Daniel doesn’t sign a contract, and snapped his bonsai trees.
But, when Miyagi attacked, he seemed to hesitate, but willing to fight. But got his ass beat.
During the all valley of 85, Mike was ready to wipe the floor with Daniel, but Silver wanted him to torment Daniel more, so Mike purposefully had to lose a point. After bad-mouthing Mr. Miyagi, this angered LaRusso, causing him to defeat him, which left him angry in the end.
After KK3:
Tumblr media
According to him in episode 3 of season 5, Mike stated how insane that there’s a contract that allowed him to hurt another kid, indicating, he knew that he made a deal with the devil. And he was right to have second thoughts since after he failed to complete the task he been given, he loss his credibility as a karate fighter and his financial future ruin. He was kicked to the curve, left to fend for himself. He worked a lot of odd jobs to gained some money for his finance. But one day, he found someone that cared for him a lot. Who taught him the value of creation. Someone to help turn his life around for the better. And later gained the love of his life, the man’s daughter, making him his son in a legal sense.
Comparison to Tory Nichols:
Tumblr media
Barnes and Nichols came in as the tough badass fighter with anger issues that for money whatever reasons (poor background). Some people even believe they could be related (not).
Their relationship with Terry has a similar nature. Terry Silver promised a lot of money and a lot of glory just to keep for their skills as fighter as nothing else. While they know full well that Silver is a mad-man.
Nichols’ background could honestly be similar to Barnes’.
In conclusion:
Tumblr media
Mike Barnes and Chozen Toguchi had got through some powerful shit. Chozen nearly lossed himself but found the light. While Mike lived with the consequences of his mistake and then found someone who loved him like a son.

SPOILERS UNDER THE CUT
Miguel Diaz — ♾️/10 i love him so much he is actually my boyfriend!!! <333 HE IS SO <3333 I LOVE HIM I LOVE HIM I LOVE HIM
Johnny Lawrence— 9/10 he carried the show tbh, truely iconic
Daniel Larusso — 4/10 he was not it in this show, very judgy and annoying tbh…
Tumblr media
Samantha LaRusso — 4.5/10 I had mixed feelings though the whole show…her and miguel were cute but she was not my favorite like Miguel just wanted prom to be about them but she just HAD to make it about her and Tory… also the fact she was the only girl on miyagi do and lowkey made it her whole personality was not it…
Eli “Hawk” Moskowitz — 7.5/10 I actually enjoyed his character and loved how he didn’t let kyler and the others get to him and found himself. DIDNT LIKE HOW HE WAS A BULLY TO DEMITRI AT ALL but then he had a redemption arc and actually came back and was a good person again and i respect him so much for it (also he was really funny ngl)
Robby Keene— 6.5/10 I loved Robbys character development throughout the show and how he grew with himself and learned to forgive Johnny throughout the series. HOWEVER there we quite a few moments that i was like DAMN how could he do that, like shaving off Hawks mohawk and legit screwing everything up for him and pushing the literal loml off a balcony when he was giving you mercy and didn’t want to fight anymore 😐 so there’s that. Nonetheless Robby still gets a 6.5
Tory Nichols — 9/10 i loved her way more than sam tbh. like she had way more character development and a reason behind her actions. payton list did a wonderful job with tory, and i feel like she will have such a big impact in season 6. i honestly loved her so much and can’t wait to see more of her
Kenny— 6/10 okay kenny i get you were bullied and shit and good for you for standing up to your bullies but he really thought he was all that and frankly he was quite annoying in my opinion.
Kyler , Terry , Kim — -27277228282828/10 I hate them i hate them i hate them i hate them no explanation needed.
John Kreese— 3.5/10 you see i have major on the fence syndrome with him cause i see what he was doing and he kinda had a redemption arc ig ig ig but like he was a bitch in the movies and like like like idk terry is WAY WORSE THAN HIM like IDK HOW TO FEEL ABT KREASE LIKE HE CARED ABOUT JOHNNY AND STUFF ANF WE FOUFNBTHAT OUT W/ THE FLASHBACKS HELP I FEEL IMA GET ATTACKED FOR RHIS 😭😭
Demitri — 8/10 he was very annoying at first and judgy but then he joined karate and found his confidence and then became a bad bitch so i personally love like s 3/4/5 demitri
Anthony Larusso — same with anthony he was a little annoying brat in the first 4 seasons and then hr pulled through in season 5 soooo 4/10 bc he can’t make up for it that much ykwim?
Moon— Marry me moon ilysm you’re the sweetest <33 9.5/10
Aisha — 10/10 she was a bad bitch i loved her so much she legit broke some kids nose and her , hawk and miguel are my fav friend group trio ever. she gave yas a front wedgie like she DESERVED enough said i love aisha <3
Rose— Yaya I love her so much she is such a funny character 10/10 i loved her so much she cared for Miguel so so much <33
Carmen — 11/10 she is so so so so amazing and a wonderful mom and i’m so happy for her and and Johnny !! she also cared for Miguel and is such a wonderful mother <33
Stingray — legit comic relief , legit annoying ass bitch 5/10 no words needed
Shannon Keene — 2/10 she abandoned robby BUT she is trying to better herself and take care of herself and try and be a good mother figure for robby
Yasmine — 1/10 is she dating Demitri , yes , was she a fat shaming bully who legit was a horrible friend also yes.
Amanda LaRusso — she isn’t Kumiko , but she was funny and is like one of the only characters with common sense 7.5/10.
Devon Lee— idk i don’t really have a big opinion on her?? so i’m just gonna give her a 6/10 cause she joined the Eagle Fang and kicked ass buttt she also kinda gave me off vibes when she was in Cobra Kai.
Chosen — Absolute bad bitch 9/10 , we stan chosen in this household. he dragged Terry and we’re here for it!!! I loved his character so much and boy can he dance.

Yeah, the cheating could have been forgiven if Terry had not come back from that fight with Michael and taken all his anger and frustrations out on poor Daniel who had nothing to do with this. So Terry wakes him up at night, takes him from the pups, fucks him disrespectfully and brutally like a whore despite Daniel not really wanting it (which, in itself gives me almost marital-rape vibes which is disturbing enough), then continues to be angry at Daniel for being angry with him after what he did, and leaves his own pups with his friends to THEN get drunk and fuck a random Omega knowing that Daniel is so hurt and angry??? And then  “apologizes” by “groveling” and pretty much buying and paying for some gifts, a car, and a vacation? And then fucking Daniel again on the trip and getting him with child, all while hating when he even brushes the hand of another Alpha. Talk about having your cake and eating it too. Lmao, un-fucking-believable.
Hell, I might have been more understanding if this had happened very early in their marriage before any pups, and they were still wary about each other. Hell, I’d let it go even if this happened while they were engaged.
But to do all of this, and know what you did while Daniel doesn’t for what, decades?? To come back after this, and have Danny go right in back to cooking and cleaning and taking care of you and all the pups, and loving you and letting you have him physically all while being totally clueless that his husband stuck his dick in another Omega and broke his marriage vows??? And just have people pass it off as a “thing Alphas do”???? Well, John didn’t and that says it all.
Sorry, that’s it for me. I enjoyed this fic up until now, but that’s just grotesque, and honestly made me really dislike Terry. Being a MobAU I was expecting murder and crime, etc, but for someone who claims to love his Mate so much and then do all this to him is a big NO for me in a Silverusso story. Thanks for all the fills nonetheless and the good writing, but I honestly think this took away from the story not just for me, but for a lot of others as well. I can’t go back to reading this and seeing cute, romantic Silverusso scenes knowing what Terry did. It’s your story and you can write what you want but…I think this was a huge mistake.
Nonnie, I completely understand anybody's decision to follow a story or not, as long as they enjoy it and the protagonists. I myself stopped watching Breaking Bad, a story I enjoyed very much up until then when the protagonist did something I really didn't like.
But I wasn't aware that I could make a mistake by truthfully answering a question about my own protagonist. A question I had not asked for. People have been asking me to write this story, in my own time, for free. Apparently Nonnie, up until now, you have been enjoying all this free labor. Most of which was in direct response to questions from people. I did not even post things hoping for a reaction. This whole story, apart from the very first post, is me doing you and others a favour. How can I make a mistake in not doing people the exact favour they seem to want but won't articulate? Nonnie what did I promise you? What do I owe you? You have not even given me your pseudonym!
What social contract says that a morally gray protagonist must be completely and utterly transformed by love? The gangsters in Coppola's films aren't. In Scorcese's films. Or Leone's work. They murder, they rape, they cheat. They're hypocrites. And then they're not. The films deal with the fallout of that mess. Of their awfulness. And their decency and love.
This has been tagged mob au from the start.
Some asks want me to focus on the love. Others want me to focus on the strife. I want to stay true to my characters.
You could have stopped engaging with this and I wouldn't have been any the wiser. Now I got scolded for giving people a gift.
That hurts.

what are your ideas and hopes for season 6 of CK? i honestly think it’ll bite, but we shall see…
I tempered expectations with S5, and because of that, I enjoyed it for what it was. I'm hoping S6 will be entertaining, even if it's not what I want. Here are my realistic and low-bar dreams for S6:
I'd like to see Johnny and Daniel have a true heart to heart about the abuse they endured from their senseis, and their tumultuous relationship as teenagers. Bury the hatchet once and for all. Understand each other on a deeper level. I'm afraid Daniel trying to explain Terry to Johnny at the bar in S5 is all we're ever going to get. This is a major loose end for me, and the show would always feel kind of sad if they never address…you know…the main themes.
Would love a better handling of Johnny and Robby's relationship. Would love for Johnny to wake up and focus on Robby and make him feel just as important as the new baby. Put forth real effort instead of having everything handed to him. S5 tried to convince us everything was good now between them, so I doubt they'll revisit this to the extent I want.
Bring in Julie. She's the only major character missing at this point, and it would feel empty to end the series without at least a cameo. Ultimate dream would be Daniel recruiting her to help with the world tournament, along with Chozen and Mike Barnes.
I'd like to see an actual progression of Sam and Tory, and Robby and Miguel's relationships. Talk out their issues, find common ground, kick ass together. As an old person, it's hard to get too invested in the teen storylines because I know life doesn't end at 17. They'll be in college soon and will forget all about the karate war and love triangles.
Kreese and Terry reconcile. I want the ultimate big bad combo of Kreese's cunning combined with Terry's ruthlessness and money. Give us a true threat. Mirror the protagonists like they're supposed to. I hate everything the show did to their present day relationship and it would take a lot to get me to forgive it. It would at least hurt less if they ended as friends. Having Kreese and Terry, and Johnny and Daniel face off at the world tournament would be a good callback to when Terry originally wanted to enter the tournament when they were younger and Kreese said no. They can finally do it together.
I know there's nothing thrilling or original here, but if that's what we're after we gotta look to fanfiction lol

Hey bestie I have a request for you. It's based on the scenarios I wrote for I'm_basically_Johnny_Lawrence. So you are related to Daniel or Johnny and you got sent to Terry to spy on him but with the time you both start having feelings for each other. What would you do and how would Terry react? 🖤🖤🖤 I hope that makes sense 😂
I can certainly give it a go bestie 💚
From the very start you didnt want to spy on anyone, let alone Terry. You had got to know him and really connected with him in a way you hadn't with anyone else before. He listened to you, understood you, and whenever I you were having a bad day, or needed help with anything, he was always there. You considered him to be one of your closes friends now, and you know you had to come clean. You had a feeling from the start that what you were doing is wrong, that's why when Johnny and Daniel asked for information, you lied to them. And to make sure you had evidence to prove it, you kept a recorder in your pocket around Johnny and Daniel, to prove that A. You didnt want to spy on Terry. B. That when you did tell him the truth, you had the evidence there with you.
That night, you knocked on Terry's door. "Good evening sweetheart, what a lovely surprise" you try and say something back but, you can barely make a smile, you just look at him with a guilt in your eyes. "Y/N? Are you alright? What's wrong?" "Terry, I need to talk to you about something serious" he looks at you with confusion, but let's you into his living room, closing the door behind him. "What's going on? Your not acting yourself" you cant hold the tears in any longer "Terry I'm so sorry, I'm sorry for what I have done" he starts to walk towards you "hey, hey it's alright. Come hea-" "No! Please no..." you hold your hand out to stop him coming near you. " Terry, I'm so sorry, I didnt want to do it I swear, and I didnt even actually do it, I lied to them and-" " Y/N look at me. Just explain what's going on" you exhale deeply, then turn to face him. " Terry I haven't been completely honest with you. Daniel and Johnny tried to make me spy on you to get any information I could. They threated to lie to any future employer and stop me getting any kind of work, I would be homeless. But despite that I still couldn't do that to you." He stands there looking stunned, but allows you to continue. "Terry you mean so much to me, your one of my closes friends and I didnt want this to happen, so every time they asked me what you were doing I lied to them. I lied to there face and always told them to stop, and to keep me out of this, but they wouldn't back down. So I had a pocket recording device with me and recorded the whole thing!" Terry raises his eyebrows at you now, and yet, there was no anger, in his eyes or him body language. He just listened. " look, see, I have it right hear" you put the recorder on the table, it plays and clearly shows that you were telling the truth, and that they both were threatening you, and you clearly lying about Terry to them. You feel so bad about this, despite the evidence being there that you were telling the truth, Terry still hadn't said a word, and you felt like you lost the man you care so much about forever. "I'm sorry I-I should go, I wont bother you any more I promise, I'm sorry-" your trying to walk away and out of the door, but Terry reaches for your hand and stops you from going. "Y/N-" "honestly Terry I didnt want to do it, but I'd never tell them about anything you were up to, and I have been wanting to tell you for a long time, but I needed the evidence befo-" your cut off, buy Terry leaning in and kissing you. This definitely shuts you up. And in that moment you forget everything, and pull him in closer by grabbing his collar and deepening the kiss. " Y/N.... i understand what you were going though, i do. I know that your a kind hearted person who hasn't got a bad bone in her body. I could tell something was going on, but I never imagined you were being blackmailed by Lawrence and larusso. And the sheer fact that you lied to their face and recorded the evidence, that shows loyalty. Even with the threat of homelessness, you still did what was right" "Terry I'm so sorry about it all, I wanted to tell you sooner-" "sweetheart, I believe you, and I trust you. And believe me when I say this, larusso and Lawrence will pay for blackmailing you. I wont let that happen. You put yourself in a dangerous position to protect me, now it's my turn to protect you" another tear runs down your face as you look at the floor, still feeling a little ashamed of everything. But he puts his finger under your chin and lifts your head to look him in the eye "I trust you, and I will protect you sweetheart" he kisses you once more, more passionately than before. He then picks you up bridal style, and carrys you to his bedroom. Where you spend the rest of the night.....😏

I would like to read more about your opinions of Terry and Mike. It could be thoughts about their dynamic back in Karate Kid 3 or present day or both. Do you think they might have stayed in contact? Do you think Mike could now be considered a 'friend' of Terry's rather than just a hired gun? What do you think it was like when they were boss/employee and sensei/student while also living together, since Mike lived with Terry for a while when Terry hired him. Anything you want to talk about regarding these two, because I think it's very interesting and I don't know how much the show will give us.
I've no idea what the showrunners are going to do because Mike promo is so scarce, but I can talk about what I personally feel is in character for both Mike and Terry? Would that help? Or maybe what I can vaguely squeeze out of what we were given? I don’t know. Here are my thoughts, make of them what you will!
---
I think Mike would've stayed reasonably pissed off at Terry purely because Terry and John put him through an incredibly difficult training literally, the way he sees it, for nothing and he lost anyway, which didn't do anything good for his track record or professional career as a martial artist. He didn't fly to LA back in the 80's to lose. You don't fly to LA to lose at anything. Not when some weird Billionaire who personally oversees to your teaching gets in touch with you as one of those lightning in a bottle once in a lifetime crazy opportunities, winning should be an assured thing, right? Not to mention that Mike also did a lot of Terry's dirty work that could've landed him or juvie or jail or at least earn him a seriously bad police record, like antagonizing Daniel and nearly throwing him and Jessica off a cliff with Snake and Dennis. Mike, as an adult, doesn't regret that as much as he realizes it was dangerously compromising, especially because it didn't even lead to him being a champion after he was already prominently featured in Karate magazines and was infamous enough to have The Bad Boy of Karate nickname. So what good was it then? It was literally risk without significant reward and the way he sees it, he only went backwards. Hey, he did get to sit pretty in Beverly Hills with a car and an allowance, he supposes, which feels like a fever dream even now. But, then again, being a bit of a mercenary indulging, the way I envision, the occasional odd job (Why do I feel he's a waiter nowadays, among others? He's dressed like a waiter in that promotional image), Mike might've done weirder things still since then.
He just doesn't remember when.
He was also probably disqualified and blacklisted from competing again.
All those dirty shots he gave Daniel under Terry's instructions?
Which were recorded? Yeah.
As for Terry? Terry doesn't feel he's got the champion he was promised by Mike. He doesn't feel he received the fighter he sought out for John's cause. Maybe he and John would've never developed so much bad blood if Mike Barnes simply won. Terry didn't get his money's worth and he in effect could've scammed or held back on the promise for 20% dojo ownership he and Mike agreed on...supposedly on paper, by noon...which seemed very shifty in the first place and the power play here is very skewed because when this all happened, Mike Barnes was a teenager too and people forget that. Sure, Mike might've gotten a compensation in the form of 'Here's some money, you punk, now get out of my mansion', but he never received his dues because around this time, John and Terry would've fallen out majorly or would've at least started falling out and Terry, I feel, wasn't taking it well and it had a majorly bad impact on his psyche to know he's failed his Captain, so maybe he wouldn't have cared just what Mike Barnes does so long as he's out of his sights, even though he might've went out of his way to repair the collateral in later years, when he was more stable because he would've tactically realized that having a friend in Mike Barnes is better than having an enemy with a grudge that could do bad things for his squeaky clean image if everything that happens in the past gets out because I think post-Rehab Terry is still very much a snake. Could've even done it post-rehabilitation in the sense of -"Mike, I realize what I did was wrong. I'm a changed man now."-
And Mike going like:
-"The fuck you are!?"- Absolutely not buying it and for good reason.
That phone call didn't go too far.
Thing is, from the rewards and proceits Mike was promised, he could've been as rich as Daniel Larusso, if not richer, but I imagine his life was very volatile in the shadow of his own loss, and ever changing since. He cannot get over how close he was to owning prime real estate in The Valley, but having his momentum stolen by merely doing what he was asked; winning a point, losing a point, Mike might be on a vaguely 'Yeah, we buried the hatched, but I'm still bitter with him even though he could be useful one day considering this mofo still owes me bigtime and one day, I don't know when, I don't know how, someone will cough up my reward' relations with Terry because for all of Terry's wise sayings about bygones being bygones, forgiveness and mistakes being made in the past, Mike might rightfully feel John and Terry fucked up his life and done him dirty. Especially Terry. John's in jail, but, Terry moved on to proceed living his rich, lavish existence the same as always with no scathing on him or his reputation, while Mike Barnes could've very well struggled to maintain a career and a living after the 80's whatsoever, undoubtedly slumming it occasionally, the way Johnny Lawrence did.
Not just in Karate, but in general.
Making his general penchant towards anger even deeper.
Remember John and Terry reunited and Terry cynically asked John if he wanted a cheque written? Present day Mike Barnes would probably bluntly retort that 'Yes, I want a cheque written, old man. Upfront.' and maybe Terry gives him a fondly amused look as he says 'Plan on failing me again, Mr. Barnes?' and maybe Mike holds up his hand to show off his wedding band that we see on his hand and reply with a 'Unlike you, I've bills to pay and mouths to feed.' and maybe Terry's internally struck by that in ways he didn't expect to be, because it is almost like their seats switched in a sense; Now Mike Barnes of all people is doing something toxic, awful and materialistic for the sake of devotion by falling in with this weird rich guy again and Terry is doing it just for the heck of it. Mike Barnes has something to fight for. Mike Barnes changed as much as he didn't change, but Terry almost envies him, not a lot, but enough for it to sting him a bit.
Schlossberg and Hurwitz being subversive by writing just one man in this damn show as a responsible father in spite of his own personal flaws and shortcomings, please and thank you, tired of the neglectful, absent, 'find your daddy' arcs.

rewatch continues! i slept til 2pm today (yeeeeew) and then made fried rice for combined breakfast-lunch-dinner, so i didn’t get around as many eps as i thought i was gonna, but i did get from 1x08 to 2x07 which i think is decent – especially considering how much kreese there was in these episodes. also, i said i was gonna be more coherent this weekend but that has not worked out, sorry
1x08
LUCILLE!! god randee is so beautiful and also somehow very comforting to me. the mom vibes are real!
-“you’re dating a larusso?” jlawz wants to be dating a larusso so bad :(((
-even if i didn’t know the specific men that wrote the amanda and lucille interactions in this episode, i would definitely know a Man wrote it, ya know what i’m saying?
-continuing this episode’s theme of train crash family dinners jlawz dumping “just because you live in a nice house doesn’t mean there’s nice things going on inside” on the diazes yiiiikes. like i get it buddy but you met these people three weeks ago and have had two conversations with them. jlawz is the worst reflection of drunk oversharing me and i don’t like it
-daniel and robby kata montage is making me so sad. i’m really gonna need them to be on good terms again soon, it has been 84 years and my heart hurts
-look, what louie did to jlawz’s car was objectively very bad but he felt he was defending daniel’s honour so i am going to give him the tiniest, tiniest little point for that. sorry but i love daniel and i empathise with people doing terrible stuff because they love him (NOT you terry)
 1x09
-okay HANG ON. did jlawz just walk angrily into the backyard of every house on escalon drive, encino until he found daniel’s place?? and how long was he standing there staring at him?? like the whole time he was making his coffee he just stood there staring ominously?? was he there the whole night??? i need answers!!
-the speed with which the old men go from screaming and trying to fight each other to flirting over cars and nicknames, to bonding and opening up about childhood daddy issues and mutual ex-girlfriends together gives me whiplash. cobra kai is not a comedy it is a tragedy and the tragedy is these two hotheaded idiots who desperately want to be friends and keep fucking it up!!
(billy is essentially just mouthing the words to take it on the run while ralph sings and i think we can guess here which of them came from a theatre background)
-also the way jlawz looks at daniel when he says ‘it’s alright’. i wish to /consume/ it
-“yeah except yours didn’t break your trophy and try to kill you” insane how quickly the showrunners are gonna forget this later!!
-when are we gonna get johnny and daniel drunkenly sparring for real??? it’s been three seasons!! we have been denied it too long. GIVE THE PEOPLE WHAT THEY WANT, SHOW
-daniel’s rage at robby ‘was this all a con?’ is not at all reasonable (he’s a child daniel jfc) but also feels a little different with the tkk3 viewing still fresh in my head i gotta say
-and johnny screeching off out the driveway with a car that's not his. both these men are really the Overreaction Bosses. they apparently never grew out of it and now everyone in the valley must pay
 1x10
-okay but like, jlawz getting his dick out in public and pissing on the larusso plate while muttering about how he can be robby’s father if he wants strikes me as even more repressed home of sexual than the billboard thing. i can’t explain it, it’s just how i feel
-“just when you think life’s going good…” god johnny really wanted to spar with daniel real bad, didn’t he? it’s okay i wanted that too, you dumb little baby man
-yaya is truly aspirational
-the eyefucking going on through the tournie. the crane kick smirks. GOD just fuck already people are getting maimed here
-there’s no way anyone in the topanga team is in high school
-oh robby. i genuinely feel like he is the will byers of cobra kai. as in, he really really needs to catch a fucking break
-daniel being like “i’m not saying you have to like the guy, i know i never will.” babe you literally took him to your childhood home to reminisce yesterday but ok!!
-johnny when he realizes he’s created a little no mercy! miguel monster:
Tumblr media
-i have resigned myself to the fact that whenever i hear the miyagi theme i am going to cry now. nothing to be done about it
 2x01
-the way jlawz wanted to punch kreese in the face as soon as he saw him? i felt that
-season 2 has a lot to answer for bringing us kreese and stingray, but daniel looking beautiful and radiant restoring the miyagi do dojo almost makes up for it tbh
-”balance is my thing.” oh yeah for sure jan!!
-miguel really grew whole inches and got his braces off in one weekend. amazing
-jlawz peeping daniel and robby at the hardware store and getting upset and going off at robby about is actually desperately sad. it gives big divorced family energy
-robby: he cares more about his rivalry with you than he does about me daniel [frowning]: hmm bummer but nothing i can do about it as an adult grown man who is one half of this rivalry i guess!!
-probably more stuff happened in this episode but i was eating my rice at this point so just enjoy this photo i took of the tv screen for some reason (the reason was i love daniel):
Tumblr media
so nice that the lesbians on the left there got a car AND a photo with daniel larusso. truly the dream of all lesbians
 2x02 (ish) to 2x07(ish) {my thoughts got a bit slow and same-y after i had all those carbs, so i have condensed the thoughts from these episodes all together bc why not}
-daniel’s calves (that was all i wrote down, that was the whole thought. and i agree with me)
-when kreese said “the gang’s all back together. well, almost all of us” i literally dropped my fork in fury. full offense, i hate that raggedy racist old bitch with all of my heart. i'm so mad i will probably have to sit through his ‘redemption’ in s5. i hope chozen kicks him into a ravine
-anyway, again, there’s something very ~recent exes~~ about the way daniel walks up on kreese and jlawz and stares angrily at jlawz like he’s betrayed him and then kreese puts his hands on jlawz in a weirdly claim-y way and jlawz shrugs him off and tries to talk to daniel and daniel’s like i’m Not Angry I’m Disappointed Goodbye (he IS angry tho). why is every lawrusso interaction like this??? why are they like this
-i’m not gonna get into any deep meta/wank about whether daniel should have told johnny anyway about robby. of course he should have, but like sigh, adults are beating up children here in karate wars town. within the logic of the show it makes sense that daniel would see kreese (a man who jumped out from behind a cardboard cutout of himself to yell grraaaaar at him) and go yeah nah peace out i’m not putting robby in that mess
-it’s 2018 there’s no way that cement truck business wouldn’t have been recorded and uploaded to twitter and johnny would have been the new bean dad
-oh so daniel was gonna do an ice demo at valleyfest and jlawz does a fire one huh? and the fire was melting the ice? it’s almost like…. there’s some sort of …. symbolism… there….
-an angy little tory appears! and she loves to do violence
-hey guys so we need for miyagi to give daniel some indirect advice but he’s dead what should we do? just put another guy in a hat that looks like miyagis and have him give the advice? okay perfect!!
-when daniel high kicks the shit outta those guys on the beach and is like “your grandpa know how to move like that, huh?” he is the actual hottest man alive. that is a science fact
-also his face when demetri shows up. please!!!! he’s so happy and so soft!!! YOU get a shoulder pat and YOU get a shoulder pat and YOU get a shoulder pat
-amanda’s comment about daniel hyperfocusing is so bang on and also timely. this is clearly going to come back soon
-season 2-3 hawk is genuinely a bit terrifying and I always forget this and then here I am scared of him again
-re: the trashed dojo. very upsetting on multiple levels, but when daniel barges into the ck dojo all wild and spitty to yell “what are you gonna do about it” and try to goad jlawz into a fight? i’m sorry but my simple little lizard brain is into that
-jimmy and bobby’s reaction to kreese being back is so valid. they are me. we are vibing
-“everyone deserves a second chance” jlawz babe your projection is showing :(( i love you PLEASE go talk to your son. stop adopting evil old men and random sweet adorable neighbours and go talk to your son who is just crying out for any effort from you at all.
-literally putting tommy in a body bag is the absolute worst crime this show has committed, and it has committed so many
-also all the cobra boys yelling wake up at him. guys……………… he’s dead i-
-that kreese army photo is so unintentionally funny. why does he look like he’s pretending to be an army guy in a porno
-interesting how when daniel recounts what happened in tkk3 leading up to briefly joining cobra kai to the kids, he completely omits the part where he was terrorized into joining the tournament in the first place.  i suppose that could just be down to keeping it simple for the tv audience, or the writers doing that thing they do where they minimize what happened to daniel. but from a character perspective it’s interesting, like he still blames himself for wanting to win it.
aaaand that’s it for now. 2x08 next and then! pulpo. which i suspect will take longer that all the rest of the episodes for me to get through bc i will need a couple of intermissions to scream into a cushion
sidenote: when i get to s4, @lionlikenick is joining me to tandem watch, so that could mean one of two things. the thoughts on here could get a lot fewer because i’ll be sending them all direct to knickers, or you (all two of you) will be copping double the thoughts – mine and the ones i appropriate from her. no way of knowing which way it’ll go, but just warning you in advance.
