Thinking about Lemongrab 1 as Pb’s narrative foil and a living testament to her mistakes as a person and ruler in that she created a society where people like him can go unpunished purely by virture of being ruling class, because by legally protecting the ways that she mistreats her subjects she opened the door for people like Lemongrab to thrive in the systematic inequality she created. #genuinely such a big part of Lemongrab's early episodes #is that the ways he mistreats people is legal because pb made it legal for herself to do so #so by viture of being royal family lemongrab is also protected #he excplicitly draws attention to this with the 'I'm within my rights' scene in his second episode #where Pb admits that when she made it legal for her to spy on her subjects she made it legal for him to do the same thing #but then the ways that Lemongrab reveals the structural flaws of fuedalism and the ruling class as a concept #is never really dealt with narratively #and then Gumbald fails to be a genuine narrative foil bc he doesn't reveal anything deep or dark about pb as a character #he's just a 2 dimenional hateable villain #and I could go on and on abt the parallels to Shelley's Frankenstein in terms of scientific creation #symbolising the creation of class structures and inequality but #I feel that may be too deep in the english literature student territory #charliecore
