hey, do you wanna cry? 🥰 have you watched Mr. Sunshine on Netflix? 👀 Gotta get thru the first episode cuz it introduces a lot of characters and you gotta keep up with which old man is which but everything about it is beautiful and incredible and you will cry at some point but also they have great comedic relief characters
Always 🤭
I actually have it on my watchlist! Just haven’t gotten around to it yet, but I have heard that it’s good. My next object is Brahms but if you recommend it, I’ll try and start Mr. Sunshine afterwards!

Kinda funny how long it too me to start using she/they, since I completely unironically wanted to look and dress like prettyboy kdrama romantic love interests. You know. For some reason.

Crash Course in Romance - First Impressions
I started Crash Course in Romance purely for Jung Kyung Ho only to discover it is directed by HomeCha director and has all of my favourites in the supporting cast. And now I am firmly sucked in to it cause of Jeon Do Yeon. It’s my first time watching her and she is such an amazing natural performer - it’s like acting is in her blood. She just has to show up and she will make sure your eyes are fixated on her.
Tumblr media
There maybe many actresses who are more beautiful than her , but I’m dead sure there are very few who can surpass her acting skills. I didn’t even know what a big star she is, until I saw this series and went and looked up her acting resume!
I adored Jung Kyung Ho in Prison PlayBook and Hospital Playlist ( a drama that didn’t hook me but his charcater did) and was dying to see him as a main lead and I’m absolutely loving him in every scene. He has to be one of the best actors out there who has picture perfect comic timing.
Tumblr media
All his outbursts and expressions when he is startled by JDY’s character are downright hilarious. But he is also delivering on the emotional scenes, the scene where he cried eating her food for the first time - it hit home hard. It reminded me of the scene in Chocolate when the younger Ha Ji Won cried after eating the younger Yoon Kye Sang’s mom’s food at their restaurant. The connection she holds dear for the rest of her life in that drama. Food is so integral to KDramas and Korean culture and to see it form the foundation of the leads’ relationship, her food healing him - could it get better than this?
KDramas do found families the best - take Reply 1988, Prison Playbook, Hospital Playlist, Be Melodramatic, Hometown Cha Cha Cha - people bound by love, friendship and hearts. JDY looking after her autistic brother and her niece as her own kids, running a food store with her best friend is all kinds of heartwarming to me. She who had to give up on her handball dream, she who carries no grievance, no regrets, no sadness in her heart for having to bear the burden of raising a family at a young age. She who hasn’t had a chance to live her own life selfishly , but is selfless, pure hearted, free spirited, never once cynical, loving and a kind hearted soul. Her positivity is contagious.
Tumblr media
Even when her autistic brother is misunderstood, she is polite and apologetic even though they are not at fault. Even when her daughter NaHee bears the brunt of unfairness from the academy and manipulation by the evil moms, she fights for fairness but doesn’t grudge the people.
JDY and Lee Bong Ryun’s friendship will hit the top 10 female friendships in KDramas if they keep going strong. I crave for the scenes between these two - pulling each other’s legs, egging each other on, encouraging and complimenting each other and most important reminding each other how valuable they are. Here’s to more women friendships! KDramas have often got this part right!
Tumblr media
I don’t usually care for teenage romance or love triangles, but there is something endearing about the budding love triangle between Na Hee, Sun Jae and Geon Hu. Na Hee is married to her studies and completely oblivious to these two guys crushing on her and I love that! Also the scene in the park where Sun Jae and Na Hee tell each other their secrets - just a glimpse of how at the bottom of it all their friendship is pure and I hope that doesn’t change.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The moms don’t impact me after having seen Sky Castle, they are the toned down version of those monster moms from Sky Castle. Plus if you cast Kim Sun Young (love her in freaking every role and drama) and Jang Young Nam ( my favourite coach in BokJoo) - how am I supposed to hate them! I mean I want to whack the shit out of them for the nastiness they bring to the screen, but I love how well they are doing it. Do you get my conflict?
Tumblr media
Crash Course in Romance has complete HomeCha vibes, Ms Sunshine meets Mr Grumpy trope, with backdrop of the competitive Korean education system pressure on kids and parents alike, which was dealt brilliantly in Sky Castle.
In summary, Crash Course in Romance is 100% Hometown Cha Cha Cha meets Sky Castle. I loved both dramas and it’s no surprise am enjoying this fine mix too right now.
What about you lot?

Hi! Do you have any recs from 2022 or 23 regarding rom-com kdramas like crash course in romance? I finished it today. Some of the last few I've watched have kinda traumatized me.. like snowdrop (idk why I watched that, prob cuz I wanted the lead to have a shot at love and not get shot), Why her (it's amazing, but never again), adamas (is there even a part 2?). *Clears throat* I, uh- would be grateful if you could give me some suggestions that end on a lighter and happy note.. thankyou!
Oh gosh, the pickings are a bit slim since I lean towards things that traumatize me and haven't watched a *ton* of the stuff that came out last year/this year. But there's still a few good ones!
The first one that came to mind was The Law Cafe. While it dives into some hard topics, the tone is overall lighthearted and it has a happy ending. The ml was a bit frustrating at times but he always came thru. I think it deserved better honestly like it felt like just me and three other people watched it.
Summer Strike has a murder plot but I think if you could handle the one in ccir then you can handle this. Plot-wise it is not perfect but ohhhh the couple is top ten for me. They're so so cute together and I love how they both have such soft personalities. Pairings tend to be more opposites attract so it was lovely to see two gentle people fall for each other. Also Siwan! My favorite guy ❤️
Hometown Cha Cha Cha is from 2021 but if you haven't seen it and enjoyed ccir then I think it'd be perfect for you! It has the same director so a lot of the things I liked in ccir felt reminiscent of homecha. The plot is like 90% lighthearted and it has a very happy ending. I didn't enjoy it as much as ccir but it's still really cute and well worth the watch.
Gaus Electronics is just straight unhinged comedy. Never seen a kdrama like it lol. just give the first two eps a shot (most people get put off by ep one but it mellows out) and you'll see what I mean.
The Fabulous I kinda forgot about her after ep 2 but it was a fun watch up until then at least lol and I'm p sure it has a happy ending. If you like fashion and minho (SHINee) then it's the drama for you 😌💅
Wish I had more recs but like I said I haven't watched a ton of recently airing stuff, much less non-traumatizing stuff. Hope you find someone you like. ❤️❤️❤️

absolutely LOVING your excitement over homecha i really hope you continue to enjoy this little show that manages to go over like a million different themes but never makes any of them feel overbearing or incoherent and it's just so much fun and cute and trope-y but also very real and gosh i just love it so much gongjin is my second home i hope it becomes yours too <3
LITERALLY ITS EVERYTHING IVE EVER WANTED!?!?! I was sold in the first 18 minutes of the first episode, I'm on episode 6 right now and it's all I can think about. Slice of life's can be a hit or miss with me but I'm sorry it's about a small town on the seaside???? With a trio of grandmas a divorced couple who may still have feelings for each other and meddlesome neighbours!? And don't even get me STARTED on Dusik and Hyejin, they are making me go insane. How they perfectly balance the opposites attract while still being similar?? Their banter?? How they level each other out?? How they drive each other up the wall while still understanding each other?? Obsessed with how Dusik pretends to be exasperated with Hyejin all the time and then we have these shots where it's just him being ENAMORED by her looks ugh I can't.

my heart is so full of homecha rn that it might burst. homecha was on the top of my plans for every weekend and now that's a blank space which is making me sob. this drama is more than just a drama. i think it provided something of a comfort home for everyone watching it, it sure did for me. the characters (even the kids!!), the cast, gongin and the soundtrack — everything is just carved in my heart. and the fact that this drama brought up SOOOO many MEANINGFUL discussions about a lot of lessons is amazing!! it's a beautiful wholesome ending, just wish gamri was there to watch it all but her passing away also taught us what it is to lose someone and how to honour someone's death. the first half of the finale got me sobbing and the next half smiling like an idiot. 🏡💗
no, i'll never be the same.
'cause just LOOK AT THEM!!!! if this doesn't scream OTP idk what does!
