i don't think nico needed to be in a relationship whilst the timeline of the books was still taking place. the reason a lot of people think solangelo is rushed is bc only the book prior nico was barely able to admit that he was gay and now he's got a bf that the audience barely knows? unrealistic at best. in the case of solangelo, it also probably doesn't help that will solace is such a minor character (when i first read boo i literally forgot will had already been introduced so i was just like "who tf is this"). nico shouldn't be in a relationship this early bc that seems like he's skipping a step in his character arc. ofc, there's the argument that just him being gay isn't enough representation wise and he should be in a relationship too (which isn't 100 percent true; some queer people will go their whole lives without being in a queer relationship, whether that be bc they're ace aro or similiar or be just bc its not their top priority) which does to some extent make sense, but what's stopping another queer relationship from being canon? the way solangelo panned out nico came across as the designated queer character and then just got paired off w a minor character so he could get rewarded for having a queer relationship in a kids' franchise. instead, i'd say the other queer relationship should've involved two major characters- my go to being valgrace, but it could've just as easily been a wlw ship; rr does seem to have this weird thing against sapphic people
