Tennis: Rybakina Beats Collins To Sail Into Abu Dhabi Quarterfinals

American Danielle Collins: No.1 seed Elena Rybakina defeated American Danielle Collins in the second round of the Abu Dhabi Open, coming from a set and a break down for a 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 win in 2 hours and 17 minutes. Former Wimbledon champion Rybakina has made the last eight every time she has played in Abu Dhabi. She fell at that stage to Aryna Sabalenka in 2021 and to Beatriz Haddad Maia last year. The Kazakhstani will have the opportunity to break through to her first semifinal here against lucky loser Cristina Bucsa, who edged qualifier Heather Watson 7-6(7-1), 7-5 to reach her first tour-level quarterfinal. Collins delivered a high-octane first set and sealed an early break lead in the second set, but Rybakina responded with an immediate break back. She was still not in full flow, though, and netted an attempted drop shot to drop serve again and fall behind 3-2, WTA reports. A four-deuce tussle on the Collins serve followed and would prove to be the turning point. Rybakina converted her fourth break point to level at 3-3. Rybakina and Collins exchanged two tight service breaks at the start of the decider. But it was Rybakina who made the breakthrough in the fifth game, finding a backhand pass to break for 3-2. Collins's intensity was ebbing at last -- the World No.71's ratio had tipped to 16 winners and 22 unforced errors in the last two sets, while Rybakina had found 20 winners to 12 unforced errors in the same passage of play. ‪The Department of media at Sultan Qaboos University organized the Second International Scientific Conference on Arab Society and Social Networking in a Changing World, which lasted for 4 days from Monday, October 30, until Thursday, November 2, 2017.‬

‪The lecture halls at the college of Arts and social science were crowded with visitors from different Arab countries such as Algeria, Tunisia, Egypt, Libya, Sudan, Palestine and others. During the sessions, 107 papers were discussed in 24 sessions, in which a number of topics were discussed on the importance of using social media.‬

‪The media student, especially the PR, were divided into different fields, students to prepare the conference bags, arrange and distribute the publications and prepare the halls, and students responsible for accommodation and accompanying guests to and from the hotel, along with a special section for accounting and receipt of funds for registration fees at the conference, On food and order, and photograph and document every moment in the conference.‬

In addition, the department organized a trip for the visitor to know more about the Omani culture and places like, “bundr alrawdah” and national museum, and they have fun with the media student and the teachers from media department.

‪The students of the radio and television department asked the visitors' about their feedback and their impressions of the conference.‬

‪As Dr. Abdul Rahman Shawki said, "We have benefited greatly from the papers that were presented at the conference because it simulates our current reality, and we discussed the studies related to Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram for each country.”‬

‪The students are thanked for their efforts in serving the visiting doctors and accompanying them throughout the university and there are those who praised the doctors of the department who had the greatest role in directing the students.‬

Abu Dhabi Open: Ons Jabeur of Tunisia blasted her way into the last eight of the Abu Dhabi Open with a straight-sets victory over Brit Emma Raducanu. Having edged an entertaining, and relatively close opening set, Jabeur stepped it up in the second and simply had too much for Raducanu, the Tunisian going through courtesy of a 6-4, 6-1 victory.
