also not me thinking about how whenever lam visits robin afterwards, he comes back feeling so low and anxious that he ends up hiding in a closet and blasting p*orter r*obin*son music to try to sleep it off
Tumblr media
and ray, who knows how he gets, never asks about it, but lets him have his space for a little while before making a milkshake and something that smells delicious to lure lam out of hiding...either that or ray intentionally cooks something smelly to get lam to yell at him sjdflksjd ( but don’t worry ray also always has a milkshake ready for his roommate to have afterwards <3 )

“Is there someone you like?” ( F-for Ray ✌🏽👀 definitely not Ester sliding this through Lam) || ( ft. anon questions meme w/ anon but really it's @kwatregats ) || still accepting!!
A frown, as he slurps on his milkshake. It's chocolate and delicious and really, why can't Ray just stick to flavors like these? Why does he have to go to flavors like shrimp? Or cauliflower? Or even MISO ( okay so maybe that one actually tasted pretty good, but that's besides the point- ) "Why are you asking me this? Just because I live with the guy doesn't mean I know every single little detail about him-" Uh that might be a lie considering that previously Lamon was thinking about how the last thing Ray does every time he goes out, it's always his jacket that gets pulled on last- Lam lifts his head, shouting to the back of the kitchen. "Ray! Do you have a crush on anyone?"
Tumblr media
Something SIZZLES on the fry, but Raphael's face pops up in the back of the window. "Who, me?" A thinking expression and then- "Nah, not at the moment. Besides, if I have a partner, who's gonna make sure you stay alive?"
Lam frowns, the center of his forehead crinkling. "I'm not that incompetent. I can take care of myself just fine."
"You lived off of two packets of instant ramen for three days straight the last time I took a trip."
He groans, cheeks growing RED. "That was one time! I know how to make stir fry now-"
Tumblr media
Ray laughs. "Just messing with ya- but seriously, lemme do the COOKING for you, for now. Wouldn't want you starving like that again. I like cooking for you anyways."

intersecting ( drabble one ft. raphael and lamon )
aka how raphael and lamon met / ended up becoming roommates ( part one ).
word count: 954 words.
Raphael watches him from the kitchen window. That in and of itself is nothing new- the kid ( or at least that’s what he’s been referring to him as – he looks young, maybe a college student, and therefore, a kid )’s been coming into the diner for the last few weeks. Raphael could even dub him a regular, but that’s a status he only grants to those who have been coming in for at least a month.
Still. Of all the familiar faces that pass in and out of the diner, Raphael finds himself looking up from the girdle whenever this one comes in. One of the other regulars calls it ‘having a crush’ aka ‘checking the guy out’. Raphael scoffs at this- sure, the kid can be considered quote-on-quote ‘pretty’ but can’t a guy take interest in another guy for reasons outside of romance? Like the fact that this kid always comes in during the late hours of the night, only to leave in the wee hours of the morning. Or how he’s always coming in with some kind of textbook and notebook. Or how he always seems ready to fall asleep right at the counter.
Or how, on this night in particular, the kid has just walked in with a runny nose and a pair of watery eyes. He takes his usual spot at the counter and scrubs each side at of his face on at least three separate occasions all while pulling out (surprise, surprise) textbook and a highlighter. More than once, he drops his pen to squeeze his eyes shut as if that would stop the tears from flowing.
Business around this time of night is usually slow, but the waitress seems uncharacteristically preoccupied with counting the bills in the cashier. Raphael sighs and throws his spatula in the bucket of warm water. Makes sense- he wouldn’t want to approach a crying person at this time of the night either. He hangs his rag over one shoulder as he appears behind the counter, grabbing a pad and pen.
“Hey, know what you’re going to order?”
The kid looks up from his textbook. Looks like a biology textbook- Raphael’s eyes barely skim over the fine print. His eyes are red and his cheeks are blotchy. He sniffles, loudly and then swallows. He shakes his head. “Not yet.” He croaks out.
Raphael pulls out a laminated menu from the stand behind on the napkin dispenser. “Probably would help if you had the menu to begin with.” He sets it next to the customer. “Holler when you’re ready.”
Ten minutes later, he doesn’t motion for Raphael. But he has stopped crying, thank goodness, now hunched over his paperwork(?), the laminated menu next to him forgotten. Raphael knocks on the cheap plastic counter for his attention and shoots him a grin when he jumps in his seat, startled. “Ready?”
The man’s order is simple- one chocolate and vanilla milkshake. The biggest one he can get. Raphael asks him if he wants anything else, but the man shakes his head. “No, I’m good.”
He sure doesn’t look that way though, Raphael can’t help but think. He jots down the order as the man grabs a napkin from the dispenser to blow his nose. “Not to be nosy,” Although Raphael most definitely is. He shoves the notepad into the pocket of his apron. “But everything alright, dude? You don’t look…good.”
The blunter way of putting it is ‘you’ve been crying’ or ‘you look like shit’ but Raphael likes to think he’s learned. There are times to shoot your shot and there are times to sugarcoat it. This seems to be one of the cases where it is the latter.
Although looking back, Raphael thinks he still would have gotten the same reaction out the kid.
Who promptly bursts into tears again, this time crying loud enough to get the attention of both the waitress and the other customers. The waitress glares at Raphael to which Raphael holds his hands up in mock surrender all while pointedly looking anywhere that isn’t that the one in tears. How’s he supposed to know that was going to happen?!
As it turns out, the crying isn’t because the kid’s sad; it’s because he’s frustrated. He hasn’t been able to sleep a full eight hours in his apartment for the past week because his roommate’s been smoking weed into the late hours of the night with some friends. And these friends were rowdy. He asked his roommate if tonight he would be willing to keep his friends out the apartment because he has a certification exam to the next day and he needs to study for it. The roommate promised he would.
But then forgot. Was smoking weed as per usual with the same three friends and didn’t even apologize when the kid pointed that out to him. That was the breaking point for the kid ( well one does have to ask how old exactly all these people are- the numbers start to get muddled when you’ve been working for long enough ).
Somehow, Raphael gets all of this through the kid’s blubbering before the kid is yelling sobbing hysterically again.
“Uh,” He flounders for words. His hands, while not greasy, are wet from wiping them on the towel. The kid probably wouldn’t want a wet handprint on his shirt. Or in his hair. “You want fries with that?”
He glares at him. His eyes are red, there are visible tear tracks on his cheeks, and not to mention, his nose looks shiny and wet. Raphael shrugs. What else is he supposed to say?
The kid rubs one cheek, roughly. “Fine. I don’t care.”
He’ll take that as a yes.
to be continued.

all the strings attached ( ft. raphael & lamon )
aka my a-spec muses are in a queerplatonic relationship even though they haven’t named it that and at this point are a package deal for anyone who interacts with them :D
probably the best thing that could’ve happened for the both of them
i like to think of them as foils to one another. foils that learn from one another. both are paradoxes in terms of how they perceive themselves in the eyes of others.
ray is a hands-on kind of guy. loud, friendly, a dare devil. makes friends easily. but for all of the bravo he puts on, he’s insecure about his cooking abilities and cares a lot about what other people think of him.  it’s the reason he left the culinary world in the first place - he couldn’t take being in his dad’s shadow
lam is more cerebral. quiet, apathetic, and very careful. can be very difficult to get along with. but even if that does grate on him, not being liked, at the heart lam knows who he is and refuses to be anyone but himself, regardless what other people think
ray appreciates lam’s honesty. admires how lam is resolute in knowing what he likes and what he dislikes and who he is. lam is one of the few people who is willing to give ray critique on his food rather than lying about the taste. ray’s also got thick skin so he knows how to handle lam’s sharp/awkward worded tongue.
one time, someone who was a fan of ray’s dad began comparing ray to his dad - lam shut that person down very quickly.
there was another time when ray’s dad came to the diner to visit. they had a cooking competition. all of the diner occupants were the judge. lam was the only person who said he’d prefer ray’s food over his dad’s. said it aloud too.
part of that came from the dish being served- ray inadvertently cooked it with lam’s tastebuds in mind. all in all, ray always trust that lam will be honest with him- a breath of fresh air in comparison to the politics he’d have to play back in the culinary world
as for lam, he would say ray’s friendship literally saved his life. they met while lam was still in the worst of his robin triggered depressive episode. well it helped that ray was new to town at the time, but ray was the first person after robin who took a liking to him
ray doesn’t know the actually know the entire story regarding robin. lam’s given some details, but generally ray doesn’t push. bc the lam of the past is not the lam of now, not the lam ray knows. when lam was in the worst of his depression, ray would at least insist on him eating something
lam never wanted someone to fix him anyways. it’s enough that ray was there as a friend. was there as someone who sit with him in the dark
ray shows affection by cooking ( duh ) lam’s favorite foods, but also through physical gestures - lots of head bonks and head pats. honestly whenever he cooks, he almost always has lam’s tastebuds in mind. wants to make food that lam will enjoy ( hint, hint to the final ingredient )
lam shows affection for ray by trying everything he cooks at least once. doesn’t matter how terrible it sounds. he’ll eat it, give critique, and sometimes even suggestions. he tries to cook for ray often too since even chefs need to eat and deserve food made by someone else too once in a while
