LIFE LESSONS FROM #WWE 24. BRET “THE HITMAN” HART Bret Hart used to be my favourite wrestler ever and there is no denying that the man was a wrestling machine. Bret used to say, “I am the best there was, the best there is and the best there ever will be!” During every match, I always looked forward to when he started making a beeline towards a pin. The chain of moves that he usually initiated was sheer poetry, such joy to behold. Brilliant move upon dazzling manoeuvre upon exceptional tactic! His style was smoove! Back in his day, it was really difficult to see a better in-ring technician. Every move dripped excellence and it is not a surprise he was a champion many times over. He attributed it all to what he called his “EXCELLENCE OF EXECUTION”. With the “Hitman” excellence in the ring was a culture. The intensity with which he executed it was a personal ethos. To become champions in our various rings of endeavours, excellence is a quality that cannot be dispensed with. That little touch that makes all the difference counts much. Africa is generally not given to excellence and it shows up in almost all our systems. Hence, it is no surprise that when it comes to various areas of life, we are still aeons behind. Until excellence becomes part of our culture, things will keep being executed poorly. No excellence in leadership for one! Secondly, we do not know diddly squat about customer service, etc. However, change usually starts with one. If we all make up our minds individually to add that extra touch of excellence, then we will all start inching towards the tape of excellence no matter how slowly. It is going to take all we have. We will fall, but will get up, dust ourselves, grit our teeth and continue with our quest. Many times, life remembers us for the excellence of our executions and nothing else. That is what differentiates champions from the herd, what makes them peerless. Poor executions don’t make champions… #brethart #WWE #champions #excellence #thehitman #africa #customerservice #leadership #africanleadership #hartfoundation

What’s killing us the most as Africans is the false belief that the world wants to help us without expecting anything in return. We need to wake up and realize that our only true help is in our own hands. Let’s do it for ourselves!
