I love bg3 but i cant be the only one who thinks the subtites in the game...need work, right? It's mainly the floating subtitles, the type the game uses while you're out exploring, where the dialogue appears over a character's heads. Every time my party starts talking, I have to stop dead in my tracks because otherwise they will wander off screen and I won't be able to understand them. This is especially frustrating when dialogue starts while navigating multi-level environments where some of the party members take a while to catch up.
Like don't get me wrong, I appreciate that we can add the background to the text and make it bigger so it's easier to read but that doesn't help when the character speaking decides to wander off (or just lags behind the player chatacter enough that they are no longer on screen).
Game devs, please just put them at the bottom of the screen and add the character's name to the front if you're worried about confusion. This floating subtitle method is harder to implement and is far less accessible. It's literally more work for a less accessible option.
Also, just because someone is singing doesn't mean you can stop captioning. My Tav helped alphira write that song, I want to know what she's saying.

I know it might sound crazy to praise fortnite of all games on its accessibility, but god the audio wheel allows me to actually hear in the game. I can actually "hear" the smaller sounds I normally can't. I can not only hear them but know where they're coming from and play the game the same way my friends without any hearing problems do. I'm not left frustrated over not knowing someone was right next to me and I couldn't hear them because of my hearing impairment. I just wish more games had this kind of audio setting for hearing impaired folks because the shift from actually having fun and being decent at fortnite to not being able to discern where people are in the finals is so drastic it's not even funny. I unfortunately don't have a proper diagnosis or any sort of help for my hearing yet so this is the only way I can help myself play these games. I wish more games would consider disabilities other than color blindness when making their accessibility menu.

I've been feeling a little bad about this so time for some positivity!
Doing things that make the game easier and playable for you does not mean you're cheating or a bad gamer.
Recently I got "60 Seconds! Reatomized". To those who don't know, it's a survival game. In the first part, you have to gather items, food, water, and family members. The more you get, the easier the game is. If you don't make it to the bunker in time, you die instantly. In the second part, you have to survive by rationing the food and water you got, using the correct items in special events, and sending family members out to scavenge for more things.
Due to me having worse processing lately, (and the controls being absolute shit (in a way I'm not able to change in the settings)) I'm not able to survive the first part of the game, and even if I did, I wouldn't have been able to gather nearly enough supplies to be satisfied.
Luckily for me, there's a gamemode where you can skip the first part! You can jump straight into the second part with randomly generated items. And with that, I can manage to play the game!
It makes me feel like I'm cheating, but I have to remind myself that I'm simply using the tools available to make the game playable.
I am not cheating, I am not playing the game wrong, and neither are you if you find yourself in a similar situation.
If the game gives you an option to make the game more accessible for you, it is not cheating if you use it. If you have to use mods or something similar to make the game more accessible, it is not cheating if you use it.
Enjoy your games in the way that's best for you
Your experience with a game impacts nobody else.
Take care of yourselves <3

Unpopular opinion: All games should have the option to enable pausing.
And to save almost everywhere.
Yes even in soulslike games.
I am an adult who has a full time job and responsibilities. I get to play maybe an hour a week. I do not want to lose that hour of progress because devs decided 'pause' was not allowed in their game and I had sudden unexpected things come up that meant I had to quit the game without saving/leave it playing and hope enemies wouldn't respawn.
Also it would massively increase accessability. I have fully working non-injured hands and they still need a break after a tough boss fight. I can't imagine how frustrating it must be for people with joint pain, arthritis, etc, etc.

reblog not for a “bigger sample size” but because polls like this are a fun way to help people reinforce their own self-concept and passing it along so that other people can also have the opportunity to strengthen their sense of self by pressing a button is a cool and nice thing to do

Look, there's a lot to be said about the contemporary gaming industry's preoccupation with graphics performance, but "no video game needs to run at higher than thirty frames per second" – which is something I've seen come up in a couple of recent trending posts – isn't a terribly supportable assertion.
The notion that sixty frames per second ought to be a baseline performance target isn't a modern one. Most NES games ran at sixty frames per second. This was in 1983 – we're talking about a system with two kilobytes of RAM, and even then, sixty frames per second was considered the gold standard. There's a good reason for that, too: if you go much lower, rapidly moving backgrounds start to give a lot of folks eye strain and vertigo. It's genuinely an accessibility problem.
The idea that thirty frames per second is acceptable didn't gain currency until first-generation 3D consoles like the N64, as a compromise to allow more complex character models and environments within the limited capabilities of early 3D GPUs. If you're characterising the 60fps standard as the product of studios pushing shiny graphics over good technical design, historically speaking you've got it precisely backwards: it's actually the 30fps standard that's the product of prioritising flash and spectacle over user experience.

some good news!! the spanish state's ministry of equality has finally passed one of the most progressive trans laws on the planet, shielded free and universal access to abortion and banned conversion therapy and genital surgery for intersex babies, among a lot of other feminist policies. the minister of equality irene montero gave a speech thanking spain's lgtb and trans associations for helping her draft these legislations. couldn't be more proud!!

You guys I just found out about this guy who made 3D printable files for adapters for game controllers to allow them to be used one handed!   It’s so clever and easy and accessible, unlike other adaptive controllers.  It just snaps onto a regular controller.  The way the stick is controlled is damn genius.  So much easier than trying to use your feet like other systems.
A friend is using one due to a stroke and as someone with problems from arthritis, this is so great to see, in case I get to the point I really can’t use my right hand.

Please share and give this guy some love, cause this is awesome.

I had an idea for a one-off Rise episode plot and just wanted to quickly sketch up some visuals for it.
The plot goes as follows: Donnie attempts to invent a cloning machine and, due to some kind of science-y mishap, ends up cloning himself...a lot. But there's a catch to this - the clones aren't exact copies of Donnie, they each possess just ONE of the various facets of his personality (i.e. brainy, broody, sarcastic, passionate, dramatic, mischievous, etc.) and a small portion of his mystic powers. Don tries his darnedest to keep the whole situation under wraps while he searches for a way to fix it, but some of the more rambunctious Donnies quickly escape and begin stirring up trouble in the Lair, so it doesn't stay a secret for very long. To make matters worse - the real Donnie starts to slowly disappear (something having to do with his existence being divided among the Donnies or blahblahblah fake science explanation). So, while he and the scientist Donnies continue to look for a way to reverse the cloning effect, his brothers and Co. set to work gathering up all the other Donnies so they can put them back where they belong and keep Donnie Prime™ from vanishing.
Hilarity, wholesomeness (and some mild angst) ensues.
(Note: I meant to include April in that second-to-last image, but ran out of room. Just know that she, Splinter, and probably Casey Jr. are all there, as well.)
