Sidewalk Sonder

(An open rp starter and drabble inspired by Taylor Swift's song, "I Look in People's Windows")

Another day of work. Another day of sore ankles, numb fingers, alcohol-scented sanitizer that lingers in the nose and back of the throat, and dry eyes from being awake for so long. The early morning shift turned into covering for others due to a rather ruinous wanderer attack. Akso Hospital was busy for days as people recovered, and shifts were therefore longer and increasingly strenuous for the staff there. Less time was spent in the comfort of not just their homes, but the family and friends that were not their patients or staff at the hospital. This happened more and more frequently. It was worth it though.

I look in people’s windows

It’s worth it. Even when she walks home that evening. Each house she walks by, she can’t help but steal a quick glance of what transpires behind some windows. Many families are having dinner around this time. Some couples sit at their tables or on their couches with blankets and plates on their laps. A pattern like the sidewalk tiles she treads on. Young and old sitting at tables together, laughing, scowling, smiling – familiarity should feel familiar, not foreign.

Transfixed by rose golden glows

If something or someone is familiar, then that which is familiar should be allowed to poke fun without harsh repercussions, right? Just like – in the window she just passed – seeing siblings stick their tongues out at each other and then snicker about it much to their parents’ chagrin. How long has it been since she had a break to call her family and visit to have dinner with them?

They have their friends over to drink nice wine

A whirring evening breeze takes her bangs in a wind-charmed dance, tickling her skin. The hospital’s AC was often cold yet it never really bothered her. It was something that overtime, the nurse got used to the longer she worked at Akso Hospital. Another window catches her attention; This time it’s a couple toasting to something that she can’t discern. Yet she finds herself longing for the warmth that tints their cheeks from the wine and sweet nothings that this couple is undoubtedly exchanging. It’s strange though; Why does it feel colder outside on this walk than inside Akso Hospital with the relentless AC?

I look in people’s windows

Suddenly, as she continues her trek back to her apartment, the streetlights turn on. She stops in her tracks from the momentary surprise. With the pause in her short journey, her gaze is pulled upwards and gravitates to one last window. A rush of adrenaline sweeps through her spine and almost clears her of any air in her aching lungs. Why did the cold air hurt to breathe? The pain doesn’t show on her face; She’s learned to suture and seal quite a lot on the job. Familiarity is not a friend when it gives her a momentary glimpse into the past; or was it a glimpse of what could have been?

In case you’re at their table

In that brief moment – in this schrodinger’s cat of a short-lived mirage – she sees someone she knows. No, someone she knew. They’re in the past now; Sutured and sealed in her mind’s mausoleum, filled with the memories of this one person who would be behind those windows with her long ago. Isn’t it funny how all it takes is the warm flash of a streetlight to make these memories rapidly haunt her, like a scalpel slicing through those carefully sewn sutures to have them leak out and stain her. Like she was freshly washed hospital bed sheets that are now stained by a pain she thought she had remedied.

What if your eyes looked up and met mine

Suture it. Seal it away again. That’s what she wishes she could do. It’s easy enough to do now if she’s done it before. Yet now, as she tries to keep walking on, it only stings more. Each attempt is like she’s suturing this affliction with no analgesic to relieve the pain. Each attempt is a puncture. Is it worth trying to suture up something that perhaps shouldn’t be sealed away anymore? Is it worth giving CPR to what has obviously been a flatline from the start? The contact on her screen looks up and meets her eyes, but should she try again?

As a new member of the Awk-Squad, I thought it was my duty to answer this questionnaire by @awkwardbsd !

(Nick)name? Preferred pronoun?

In public, I have two nicknames I’m most comfortable with — Linkle, which is one used by everyone, and Tippi-chan, which is a nickname given to me by a dear friend of mine on another site and has only ever been used by him. I like both of these, but Tippi-chan I consider to be a more familiar way of addressing me that I associate with people to which I’m very close.

I’m a girl, so she/her pronouns, please, when you’re referring to me and not my muse.

Birthday?

That’s a secret to everyone except my closest friends, and I’d rather it stayed that way. ~

How would you describe yourself?

I would say that the way I present online and the way I present in person is very different; online, I enjoy socializing through writing and overall am just a very outgoing and talkative person, while offline, I am extremely introverted and would much prefer to speak and carry on conversation through text than audible words. In both cases I am shy in my own ways.

Don’t ever expect to audio or video chat with me, sorry; that’s completely off the table.

Hobbies/Interests?

I love writing analyses, meta, theories, etc. about my favorite series; I also write fanfics, RP, draw, play video games, watch my favorite shows, and run several different blogs. There are honestly too many things to list here.

Fandom wise, my biggest interests are Bungou Stray Dogs, Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE, Legend of Zelda, Ace Attorney, and Doctor Who (up until Series 10 of NuWho), and although I love them all nearly equally, it would likely be in that particular order if I had to choose. I am extremely opinionated and firm in my beliefs, but I also have no troubles socializing with people who have differing opinions and respecting them greatly.

I love music in general, and my tastes are all over the place.

Are you a fan of anime? If so, what are your favourite ones?

Um, am I the only one who thinks that’s kind of a silly question, considering I’m a member of the Awkward Squad? Yes, obviously, I am. My absolute favorite anime is Bungou Stray Dogs, without any equal. I also enjoy Persona 5 the Animation, Mushishi, and Noragami, though truthfully I don’t watch very much anime outside of BSD.

I do like Diabolik Lovers as a series a little, but I wouldn’t list the anime as being one of my favorites though I’ve finished watching it, and I’ve only watched some subbed playthroughs of the games; I’m not that into romance and mostly just appreciate the characters themselves to some extent.

Do you ship? If so, what is/are your favourite ship(s)?

I do ship, although given I’m ace, for me most of my ships tend towards the platonic side even when they’re romanctic; I’m fairly innocent minded as a general rule.

You can learn most of my primary ships through a certain section on my main blog’s directory, but in general my biggest ships from BSD are Platonic! Odazai (Dazai x Odasaku), ChuuArt (Chuuya x Randou/Arthur Rimbaud), AkuHigu (Akutagawa x Higuchi), and Kyouka x Atsushi (which I’m not sure of the official ship name for). Yes, I know, most of my main ships are rare pairs and some a bit controversial, but I love them all dearly.

Favourite Character(s)?

Dazai, Odasaku, Chuuya, and Randou/Arthur Rimbaud are all my equally loved BSD babies. 💙

I also adore Yashiro Tsurugi from Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE, Clay Terran from Ace Attorney, and Link from the Legend of Zelda.

If you could bring any character to life to become your best friend (or partner), who would it be?

I couldn’t possibly choose who to bring into this world, because all of the characters I love most have someone they deserve to be happy with, so I couldn’t separate them.

Maybe Shad from the Legend of Zelda, because we could do Historical work together.

If you could have any superpower (it can be from an anime, movie, video game, or anywhere really), what would it be?

I’m happy with who I am and the abilities I have just to speak to others this way and do the things I do, but if I had an ability other than those, I think it would be one to peaceably stop wars and have everyone just be happy together. It’s corny, I know, but it’s true.

How many posts do you plan on posting a day?

I’m not sure. It depends on the day. I have a lot of drafts to clear out in my main blog, but I imagine it should be a fair number of posts even from here, so long as there’s content and people wanting to interact with me.

Looking for 1x1 over the summer!

Hi everybody, I’m Toad! I’m currently posted up in sunny SoCal as a retail clerk, bored and looking for some new partners! I’ve had some great partners in the past but a lot either only want to focus on RPing with no idea tossing or OOC, or just drop our thread entirely over time thus far, so cross our fingers!

⬛️Basic Introduction:

Hello, I am Seba and I’m looking for a long term role-play partner. Currently, I am off for the summer and I’ve been hoping to spend this time developing a really detailed, darker themed RP.

⬛️Time zone: Eastern Timezone.

⬛️What I’m looking for:

Personally, I would love to find a long-term partner that is as invested as I am in a story. I like chatting OOC and building a relationship with my partner where we both feel comfortable sharing with one another. While chatting about life isn’t absolutely necessary for me, being able to talk about the RP itself is. I like to know where the story is going, how the characters are growing and evolving, and what new devices can be thrown in to make things more exciting. Thus, I am always open for chatting about new characters, new ideas, new settings, etc.

⬛️More About Me:

♦️I am 21 years old. Usually only interested in RPing with someone over the age of 18.

♦️While I have only recently begun roleplaying (Beginning in Jan. of this year), I have been creatively writing for as long as I can remember. Therefore I have quite a bit of writing experience but not as much with working with a partner. Though I have a very easy-going personality and I’m very compromising.

♦️I am currently a second year English Major.

⬛️As pertaining to my writing style:

♦️I prefer third-person paragraph style.

♦️Lengthier, descriptive responses get me really excited about the RP. I can write anywhere from 3-10 paragraphs per response. Though I will match the length of my partner.

♦️Regarding average responding time it usually depends on my schedule and the things going on in my life at the time. Usually during the summer I can crank out an average 5 paragraph response each day. Though I make a priority to let my partner know what’s going on with me for the week and to give estimated times of when I can reply. ♦️Love lots of smut in an RP, though I don’t want to only write porn without a plot. I only ask that you please be over the age of 18 if you’re interested in roleplaying with adult themes.

⬛️What I would like to avoid: There are very few subjects that I won’t write about. I like an RP that is gritty, realistic and unafraid of discussing difficult topics. That being said I don’t prefer to write excessive torture, extreme gore, and a few other things. Before starting an RP, I like to have a discussion about limits to feel out comfort levels and limits so that everyone participating can feel comfortable.

🔶Overall, I would like to think that I am usually a pretty easygoing writer. For me, RPs are a more casual way to explore my own writing style. Therefore, I am not really picky about any element and I can be persuaded to try many things.

⬛️Interests/Likes: For Pairings, I am most comfortable with a MxM pairing. Though, I have several developed female OCs that I would love to incorporate into a plot. Very interested in writing a FxF pairing. Only a slight interest in MxF pairings, they definitely are not my favorite.

♥️Also, it would make my absolute day to write a pairing involving trans/ non-binary/ ace/ genderqueer character.

Possible Settings/Plots: 🔻Sci-Fi (I include this tentatively. I am not as familiar working in a sci-fi genre but I would like to branch out.)

🔻Medieval/Fantasy

🔻Modern Day (though, I don’t prefer obvious or overused generic troupes)

🔻Historical (preferably a dramatized version of 20s realism.)

🔶 While I have a few loose plots worked out for each setting, I like to do a lot of the general plotting work with my partner. I feel the whole experience works better when both parties contribute equally to create an RP that is agreeable to both sides.

🔶Though I do have at least three already worked out universes including:

◾️"Heavy is the Crown": An Italian Mafia Universe that includes (3) fully finished male OCs.

◾️"Mirage": A Magical Realism Universe that’s less planned out but centers around three roommates that all pose as humans in a monster-dominated world. Each of these roommates though are a different form of monster (witch, shapeshifter, and a Mage) and work to keep the other unsuspecting “humans” safe from being preyed upon. They also live next down to a grumpy Incubus.

◾️"For Your Entertainment": A fantastical historical Universe built around a circus that employs young homeless runaways.

⬛️Likes/Kinks:

♥️Size differences (Bigger Sub and Smaller Top)

♥️Power Bottoms

♥️Crossdressing/Feminization

♥️Monster Boys

♥️Toxic Relationships

♥️Bondage Etc. (the list is quite extensive really)

⬛️Very Very Few Dislikes (hardly any): No toilet play, vomit, excessive torture.

⬛️OC characters: Additionally, I have a list of OCs that I’ve wanted to further explore and give more personality. For these OCs, I am in the process of developing a Google Doc that includes an extensive background and history for each character. However, currently it is an almost unreadable, messy work-in-progress.

So for the moment, I can provide a link to my Pinterest mood boards for all of the characters. And I can provide a short summary of each character to see if any catch your eye.

⬛️Preferred RP Method: I prefer using email for an RP as it allows two separate chains for both the story itself and OOC chats. Though I wouldn’t mind using Skype or Google Docs for an RP either.
