Amell-Surana family: Theresa, Idina, and baby Averill
1. How many children does your character have? How many would they ideally WANT?
Just the one, who is the most precious and sweet son in the whole wide world. Idina would ideally Like more than the one child, but frankly not having more isn’t a bad thing, for health reasons (Dee is a Tiny woman) and for job reasons (one kid is hard enough to raise when you’re the Warden-Commander and Warden-Constable, not that these girls put any less effort into raising him for it). In AUs where they aren’t so busy I could see more than one happening, but Idina isn’t upset or anything for only having Avi
(The rest is under the cut because this Will get long)
2. How did the children become a part of the family? Were they born into it? Adopted? Somehow else? Talk about the journey! :D
This depends on the AU we’re working on but my personal favourite is the “canon + Avi” AUs where Avi is conceived shortly after the events of Awakening. Long story short, Tess was skewered by a darkspawn during the fight, Idina just barely brought her back from the brink of death but there was still shit that had to be healed naturally, and Avi was conceived basically as soon as Tess was in any condition to fool around. Ridiculous Girls
Said development put a couple of plans on hold though: Idina had wanted to find her parents after Tess healed, but she herself wasn’t going to be in any shape to travel much. Tess, being the sweet girlfriend she is, secretly invited Idina’s parents to Vigil’s Keep when Idina was about four or five months along, and she also proposed to Idina while the future granddads were about. All in all a very happy sappy reunion. Idina cried because hormones, Isador cried because he Had to
8. What are some of the character’s favorite memories from their kids’ childhoods?
Naturally with his parents being the powerful af mages they are, Avi turned out to be a mage himself, and some of Idina’s favourite memories of his childhood involve teaching him magic. The first time he ever showed her a healing spell with the confidence of someone who’d mastered it her heart swelled with pride and she definitely had to pick him up and hug him close. His learning shapeshifting was a fun time as well, especially since I like to think he picked up on it rather quickly and was never above using it to pop in to see his moms at work to show him what he could do, or just to pay them a visit
Idina is ofc also fond of memories where bits of herself were apparent in her son. Stuff like his interest in having his own garden, “don’t tell your Mom” moments where she would sneak him some candy or an extra cookie, such like that
19. Talk about a time the children scared their parents.
Going back to shapeshifting, there’s an AU where Tess is Inquisitor on top of being Hero of Ferelden, and when Avi exists at the same time, there was an instance where he flew as a bird from Vigil’s Keep to Skyhold to see his Mom because he missed her. He naturally didn’t tell anyone what he was doing, so Idina was absolutely and completely distressed when she couldn’t find her son, and Tess was equally distressed that her son had flown like 300 miles in the middle of a war to see her. He was, to quote myself, “So Fucking Grounded” when he was brought back to the Keep – and no he’s not allowed to fly back on his own
Amell-Cousland family: Theresa, Sutton, and babies Thybalt and Wynona
15. Is there a toy/book/game the character is almost as excited about as the child (or even MORE so than the child? :D)
In canon-compliant AUs Sutton is definitely more interested in their family’s history than Thybalt or Wynona would be as kids, but that won’t stop her from telling them about their grandparents’ involvement in the Fereldan Rebellion whenever they’re talking about that part of history. Sutton’s just as excited about hide-and-seek as her kids, though; Castle Cousland is a big place, and she grew up here too, so she knows of all the best nooks and crannies to hide in (or so she thinks, until she finds Thybalt on the roof above the kitchen somehow)
16. Sleep time! Talk about the sleeping arrangements and rituals of the family through the years!
Sutton likes sleeping with her kids nearby, she really does. In most AUs she and Tess have enough money to afford a whole other room for the kids, but Sutton would rather sleep with her babies in her bed until they’re old enough to start picking on each other lmao (in most AUs there’s like, a year and a half at most between the two births so the siblings are Close in age and picking on each other in as inevitability)
17. Talk about what happens when a child gets sick.
Sutton absolutely frets whenever anyone she cares about is sick or injured, and her children are not an exception. She does a fair bit of hovering around the poor dears, keeping an eye on them if they need anything like food, water, medicine, something to keep them entertained, etc. She’s a fuckin softie, though she does more or less keep her kids in their room until they’re better to make sure they recuperate/ their sibling doesn’t catch what they got
On a slightly different but similar vein, if the child is injured instead of sick she will laugh with the child about the injury, but only after making 100% sure that the child is not in pain. Especially if the injury was caused by a small mistake or absentmindedness, she wants them to learn from their injuries but not be ashamed for getting hurt
24. Has having children changed the character? How?
In one of our AUs having Thybalt absolutely changed Sutton’s life and changed it for the better. She was a pirate captain (Bryce Cousland hopped onto Eleanor’s ship after the Fereldan Occupation was over and done with) and Tess was a noble (her father never sent his four youngest children to the Circle); a series of Bad Choices happened that led to Thybalt’s conception of Sutton’s ship. He was born long after Tess was returned to her father, and Sutton fell in love with him slowly at first, then hard and fast after she was used to the idea of Son. Having Thybalt in her life made Sutton all the more aware of her actions and the consequences they brought with them; his spending his developing years on her ship made her softer and more patient, but it also gave her someone in close proximity who she was more than willing to fight tooth and nail for. She couldn’t be too reckless in her protecting, though, lest Thyb be left without a mother
In basically all other AUs where Thyb and/ or Wynona exist Sutton has either already learned to be patient and soft or has always been like that lmao, it’s the one AU where she changes dramatically like that
