Chapter summary: Seeing Enid wolf out made Wednesday realize her feelings. Enid worries that Wednesday only likes the wolf side of her. Wednesday assured her that is not the case.
As soon as Enid came back from class she was ambushed by Wednesday.
“I need you to be the least bubbly you can for the next five minutes.”
Enid’s expression was a bit of confusion and annoyance, but she nodded nonetheless.
Wednesday took a big breath. “You may have noticed that I have unfortunately developed somewhat of a soft spot for you. We’re friends and I….care about you.”
Enid nodded, barely biting back a grin.
“While this has been the case there has always been some distance thanks to the elements of your style and personality that feel offensive to me. Namely the colors, the pop music, the giving nature, et cetera. But seeing you wolf out last night, seeing you fight Tyler and…and save me. And get all…bloody. It changed something.”
Enid raised a single brow in question. “Oh?”
Wednesday took another breath, not daring to meet Enid’s eyes.
“I feel as though I’ve seen a different side of you that I was not previously aware of. And I found it, um,” now Wednesday’s breath became nervously shaky as she finally looked up. “I found it very attractive.”
Now both of Enid’s brows had shot up in surprise. “Oh. That’s, um-“
Before she could elaborate Wednesday spun on her heel to face away from her roommate. “This was stupid. You probably didn’t need or want to know that. I’m sorry.”
“No, no,” Enid said, lightly laying a hand in Wednesday’s arm and causing her to turn back around. “You…thought it was hot when I was all murder-y?”
Wednesday rolled her eyes. “Not exactly how I would phrase it, but yes.”
Enid grinned through a light blush. “Okay. Well I think you’re ‘attractive’ just about all of the time. When you aren’t being horrible. For what it’s worth.”
Wednesday swallowed dryly, clearly surprised. “You do?”
Enid nodded. “Are you saying seeing me wolf out made you realize that you like me, despite my offensive colors?”
Wednesday looked away and nodded.
“Okay,” Enid said, taking a step closer. “I don’t want to assume what you want to do about that, so please tell me.”
“You’re going to make me say it?” Wednesday was feeling some deja vu.
Enid shrugged. “I don’t know what you want to say, is all.” The grin following her words betrayed her.
Wednesday sighed. At least this, while scarier because her real feelings were involved, felt somehow less horribly uncomfortable to her than asking Xavier to the dance.
“Will you go on a date with me, Enid?”
Enid’s smile widened more than Wednesday thought was possible. “I would like that.”
Wednesday let out a long breath. “Good.”
Enid nodded curtly. “Good. Can I go back to being bubbly now? Because I’m having a hard time containing my excitement.”
Wednesday let the smallest of smiles grace her lips. “Yes. I’m going back to writing. Keep your screaming to a minimum.”
Enid rolled her eyes. “I will do my best.”

A few days later Enid came back from class to find Wednesday sitting on her bed next to a basket. When she entered Wednesday stood up and grabbed the handle nervously. “Hello. I have prepared a picnic. For our date.”
Enid grinned. “Okay. Lead the way.”
Wednesday walked past her and started leading them towards the lake. After a few minutes Enid broke the silence with a shy question.
“You don’t like, only like me as a wolf, do you?”
Wednesday paused her walking, causing Enid to almost run into her. “No. You being a wolf just alerted me to the qualities I had missed before. You’re strong, brave, and you are at least capable of if not willing to perform violence.”
Wednesday continued walking as Enid replied. “I was only violent because I was trying to save you.”
“You found absolutely no enjoyment in it whatsoever?”
Enid took a breath. “I don’t know. Mostly it was very scary. I didn’t know if I could win, and I almost didn’t. And I didn’t know if you were okay, and that’s not a situation where I can enjoy much of anything.”
“Okay.” Wednesday reached out to tentatively grab Enid’s hand. “I do hope you come to enjoy the violence you’re capable of, on some level. Maybe when my life is not in danger and neither is yours. But it’s attractive to me that you were willing to do it for me even if you did not enjoy it. You…make me willing to do things I do not usually enjoy also. Like a date.”
Enid gave her a soft smile. “I hope you can enjoy our date,” she bumped her shoulder against Wednesday’s, “on some level.”
When they reached the lake and found a spot to sit Wednesday reached into the picnic basket. Enid was half expecting some strange and unheard of meal that she’d have to pretend to enjoy, instead Wednesday handed her a lovingly made peanut butter and jelly sandwich, cut cleanly into triangles. Enid grinned and took it.
Wednesday blushed at Enid’s reaction. “Thing convinced me that the chances of you liking one of the Addams family delicacies was not high. So I settled for the most normal meal I can stand.”
Enid’s smile widened further. “It’s perfect. Thank you.”
They ate in silence, enjoying the sound of the water and each other’s company. After finishing a half Enid looked to Wednesday.
“Do you think you’d still like me if I wasn’t a wolf? Or if I hadn’t wolfed out?”
The look Wednesday gave her was the softest she’d ever seen. “If you hadn’t wolfed out you’d be dead. So, obviously yes I would still like you. Maybe even more.”
Enid couldn’t help but grin.
“If you weren’t a wolf I don’t think you’d be who you are. That would be like asking if you would still like me if I was someone else.”
Enid considered this for a moment. Before she could formulate a reply Wednesday continued.
“If you’re trying to deduce if I only like you because you saved my life I don’t think it’s worth worrying about. Everything you do and everything you are contributes to my affection for you. You saving my life makes a difference, but so does you making me a snood. If things were different then things would be different.”
Enid hadn’t noticed she had teared up until Wednesday reached out to gently wipe her cheek.
When she finally found her voice, albeit broken, Enid replied, “That was profound, Wednesday.”
Wednesday stared blankly, as she does. “Don’t act so surprised.”
Enid grinned. “I’m not, sorry.”
Wednesday took her hand and brought it up to her lips for a gentle kiss, then another. “I thought I was the one who needed convincing I was deserving of love.” She looked through her lashes to Enid, barely containing a smirk. “I suppose we are more aptly matched than I imagined.”
Enid rolled her eyes, tugging her hand from Wednesday and leaning forward to kiss her cheek.
“Would you be offended if I said we were a match made in Heaven?”
“Yes.”

The packaging industry has reached an alarming situation where on the one hand new technology facilitates an improved consumer experience and on the other, it enables counterfeiters to make near replicas of a product. The concerns have now reached a point where the active participation of the provider and the consumer attains much more significance, say industry stakeholders.
Packaging machine OEMs are experimenting with advanced technology to tackle this problem. With efficiency and quality assuming higher significance than ever before, the packaging industry is now focusing on scalable, high-performance automation solutions to deal with counterfeits.
Sudeep Goenka, director of Goldiee Group, a spice maker, said, “Awareness must be created among the consumers as well as the solution providers. The problem with counterfeit products is that it is possible to replicate packaging. Enhancement in traceability is a solution — QR codes, monograms, labels, and barcodes.”

The Hindu reported about counterfeit medicines of leading manufacturers such as Sun Pharmaceutical, Alkem, Cipla, Glenmark, GSK, Abbott, Novartis, Dr. Reddy’s and Aristo. The fake drugs that included Augmentin, Pan-D, Pantocid DSR, Urimax-D, Clavam were seized from unlicensed premises in Kolkata in August.
In June, five people were arrested for allegedly making and selling counterfeit dairy products of Amul. Police recovered materials that included ghee, butter, and packaging items from Noida Sector 70, media reports said.
Sanjay Gupta, vice-president of FMCG conglomerate DS Group, which has a presence in food and beverage, confectionery, hospitality, agri, luxury retail, etc, said reacting when counterfeit products are found is of little value.
“Industry professionals need to act beforehand to influence a better brand impact – safeguarding the trust of the consumer. A counterfeit department needs to be established in all segments of the industry. It has to be functional at every step, right from transit to when the product reaches the end consumer,” Gupta said.
An advanced ecosystem to prevent counterfeits is the need of the hour, said Sanket Randive, head of corporate quality assurance of leading multinational Marico. “A behavioral change needs to be implemented. The option of tracing the product by scanning a QR or a bar code has been there for ages. Being a consumer myself, I don’t scan the codes. If I purchase a pack of Surf, I am simply assured that I have a pack of Surf when needed. That would need to change. The profit margins dwindle due to counterfeits and delayed reaction adds to the waste of time and money.”
Counterfeit goods are made widely in Russia, North Korea, Taiwan, Bulgaria, and Turkey. Turkey is responsible for 3.3% of the world's counterfeit goods, according to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). Some counterfeits are allegedly produced in the same factory that produces the original, authentic product, using inferior materials.
A United States Senate Committee on Armed Services report regarding counterfeit electronic parts in the defense supply chain highlighted in an investigation in March 2011 that 1,800 cases of suspected counterfeit components were in use in over one million individual products". A 2012 report found that counterfeit parts came overwhelmingly from China.
According to Yogesh Kapur, executive vice-president of the holography business of Noida-based packaging giant Uflex, technology can be the answer.
The company, Kapur says, provides services and solutions by leveraging the best technology, in-house production, and an R&D division for each of UFlex’s processes. India is becoming a preferred supplier for global buyers of products, including anti-counterfeiting and brand-building solutions, he said.
“India is at the cusp of growth. From what we can see, a lot of global companies are trying to be a part of it. UFlex is well-positioned to tap this growing market with its country-wide footprint, by providing the latest technology for anti-counterfeiting, and brand recognition,” Kapur said in an interaction with Packaging South Asia.
“Global providers, when they come to India, are concerned about their IP because of counterfeiting. This is where UFlex holography anti-counterfeiting and branding solutions come in and ensure that their IP is protected and genuine products reach their (brand owners’) customers.”
In fact, traceability and authentication were the key focus of The Authentication Solutions Providers Association (ASPA) meeting in Delhi in July, where members and all stakeholders gathered to gain first-hand collaborative knowledge of anti-counterfeiting and traceability technologies, solutions, and systems.
