If you've been highly criticized/yelled at in your past after any sudden decision you've made or if you have been played around or been unappreciated while you were just trying to do something good/nice, the shameful/guilty feeling born at those times may still be lingering inside of you. Anytime you make a sudden decision/choice without asking for confirmation about its nature or give away something from yourself (even something material like eg. a very little amount of money) it makes you wonder if you've done the right thing or if you've been deceived somehow. This happens cause you have unconsciously learnt from similar past experiences that you're "not good enough" or a bit "too stupid/naive" to make good decisions by yourself.
This feeling may have been hindering you also in other situations, like when given an important choice or something similar you may try to avoid taking a final decision without asking for guidance or suggestions to others (generally those who criticized you, like eg. your caregivers), leaving them in charge of your life so that you won't be making mistakes or feel like a failure. But this way, you may end up never really experiencing life as you deserve to. You may end up chosing things you don't want or blocking yourself when given important occasions out of fear to fail and be seen as the usual "stupid" person you were and still are (only in your mind: you're not that for real, ever). You're not stupid nor naive nor any other adjective you have been called/calling yourself: you meant your best and just didn't know what to do exactly or how to act maybe, or you were a bit too impulsive; but you had to try and learn your lesson like that. You were so criticized because you were triggering a trauma in the other person but you had to make that mistake in order to experience life and understand something (and tbh you were very likely made believe that the mistake you made was bigger and much more important than it actually was). Please forgive yourself and remind yourself you have grown and learned all you need to try and protect yourself if that's the case. There's nothing wrong in giving away when done with pure intentions, don't ever feel guilty about it. Even more for giving to yourself.

“But in October what a feast to the eye our woods and groves present! The whole body of the air seems enriched by their calm, slow radiance. They are giving back the light they have been absorbing from the sun all summer.”

a note my grandmother left me on a bag of yarn when I told her I didn’t have much for yellows left in my stash. I know it’s about yarn, but it feels like a reminder — not in a greedy, self-serving way, but a little bit of encouragement to allow myself to enjoy what is good.

Proverbs 3:27-28 Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to do it. Do not say to your neighbour, “Go, and come again, tomorrow I will give it”—when you have it with you.
As believers, we must reflect God’s goodness, generosity, and justice to the people around us. The Lord cares deeply about how we treat our neighbours. Our love for our fellow men is a reflection of our love for God and our trust in His sovereignty and justice. Look for opportunities to bless someone today. Some of you can do a little, others can do more, but all of us need to do good for those who need it when we have the power and the resources to do it

Hey Tumblr friends, do something good, like this, if you have the means. I paid for three large pizzas at a local place, they're giving them to the next three people that place an order. Random, anonymous giving is good for the soul, at least it is for mine.

There is a magic in release, in the opening of the hand to give, in sweet surrender that asks for nothing. That is why there is such magnificence in the falling snow, in the leaves that fall, in dusk and in dawn, when light and dark give way to each other.

Archive of Our Own (AO3) is now back online after suffering a DDOS attack for over a day.
Here is a metaphor to explain
a DDOS ( distributed denial of service) attack. It was written by EllipsisObsessed and I am sharing it with their permission.
Several people have asked how they could show their appreciation for the volunteers. Currently A03 is not hurting for money. Perhaps consider donating to a local (your city, county, state) charity in A03's name
"It’s like we are running a store or maybe a library and patrons need to go to an employee to ask them for things. And at first it was as if bunch of Robots walked in and asked complicated questions which confused the employees and then walked out before the employees could give them the answer. So the employees were sitting there like ‘??? but I have your answer???’ and were too busy to help real customers
Then AO3 put stuff in place to block the specific sorts of questions the Robots like to ask, so the employees became better better at saying “Hah yeah no please leave” or “Hey, for now Robots can’t ask certain questions”.
But when the Robots couldn't keep us busy with questions they instead sent larger hordes of robots because it still takes time to say “Nope not you” and they clogged the front door.
So after trying numerous fixes, AO3 reached out to a Third Party Bouncer who can guard the front door
Lots of Robots are still showing up, a decent number are making it through as the new Third Party Bouncers are a bit worried about accidentally blocking users so they are being cautious and letting folks they aren’t sure on through. A03 support is helping them figure out the difference.
Bouncers are also being given quizzes that they can give to suspected Robots before they can enter. You might meet these Bouncers or see a challenge before being able to access the website"

Girl with the empty cup~
Do you know you can stop pouring? You’ve run out and you’ll have nothing left when the sun comes up tomorrow.
“But their cups are empty!” You say. And you fill their cup.
“They wouldn’t ask if they didn’t need it!” You’ll think. And you’ll do it, whatever it is.
“I haven’t hit empty, just one more thing.” You’ll grit your teeth through. And you’ll hit empty.
And then it all comes crashing. Your body aches, you can’t sleep, and you haven’t cried in ages like this.
There are cracks in your cup now, could you hold water if you had any left? Could you hold any love without a watertight cup?
Mend it now. You’ll need to time to breathe again. Maybe to learn how to give yourself time at all.
One of these days you’ll be able to fill again. One of these days you won’t be an empty girl any longer. One day you’ll be filled up to the brim with your own love.

avoiding hierarchies of deservingness in mutual aid! this is something i’ve been struggling a lot with, learning to also ACCEPT help not just provide it, yk?
(as you can see i’m working on sharing the tiktoks i see more often bc they can often be a valuable source of learning esp for folks who like watching videos/listening to folks speaking)

A heart like God’s
Tumblr media
The Lord’s Prayer. The Our Father.
If you want to know how to pray, this is literally Jesus’ answer to that very question.
So it’s no surprise that we pray it. All. The Time.
The only problem with that? When we pray something that much, it can get smooth. Like a river stone. Worn smooth by millions of gallons of water a day, over countless years.
Until there are no rough spots. Nothing to catch on.
Until the deeper meanings, the hard parts, pass by without notice.
Which why the end of today’s Gospel is so important.
After teaching us how to pray, Jesus makes clear one of the most important principles in the Lord’s Prayer. One we often miss in our worn-smooth praying.
“If you forgive men their transgressions, your heavenly Father will forgive you.
But if you do not forgive men, neither will your Father forgive your transgressions.”
The thing is, the principle that Jesus is teaching isn’t limited just forgiveness. This is a principle for all of life. Here’s what I mean,
God wants us to be like Him, to have a heart like His. A heart that overflows in compassion for others.
It makes sense if we stop and think about it.
We can’t have hearts like God. If there’s no room in our hearts for anyone but us.
A few weeks ago, the daily Mass readings were from Genesis. They included Cain’s murder of Abel, and Cain’s question to God – “Am I my brother’s keeper?”
The rest of the Bible? Especially the Gospels? It’s God’s long form answer to Cain’s question.
I’ll just give it away right now. Cain was wrong.
In our hearts, we know this. It’s why the spectacle of someone who talks loudly about their Faith but who harms others with their actions and their words is so grating, so jarring.
It’s so off the mark that even nonbelievers know it’s wrong.
Because we’re not called to be people who take care of ourselves. And no one else.
That’s not who God made us to be.
God made us to be like Him, to have a heart like His. A heart that overflows in compassion for others.
But the only way that works is if we live out who God made us to be.
Which is why we can’t expect to receive God’s blessings, if we’re not giving our blessings.
Today’s Readings
