5 ways to transition your skincare routine from summer to winter
Tumblr media
Article from Vogue
After months of basking in warm temperatures and a minimalist skincare regime, autumn has arrived and with it, the worry of dry, chapped skin. How, then, to prep your face for the biting cold ahead? By giving your skincare the same consideration as your wardrobe with hardworking layers. “Start introducing protective products into your skincare routine as soon as the seasons change in order to prepare skin for any sudden cold shocks,” says Laura Bonné, founder of Copenhagen’s Amazing Space spa and skincare line. “In general, you need extra hydration. A face balm with a rich creamy texture is like a winter coat for the skin, shielding it from frost and burst capillaries when you move between warm indoor and icy outdoor temperatures.”
Here five ways to up your winter glow game and seamlessly transition your skincare between seasons:
Transition your cleanser to an oil or cream
Foaming cleansers laced with salicylic acid are good for spring-cleaning pores and keeping oil at bay in the summer months. The downside is that many also contain sulfates such as sodium lauryl sulfate – harsh lathering agents – which can strip skin of its protective natural oils and exacerbate already dry winter skin. “Switching to a gentle yet rich cleanser is a great way to keep skin hydrated and maintain a healthy barrier throughout the winter months,” says Christinah Nicolaisen, co-founder of Swedish beauty brand Eleni &Chris.
Add a good exfoliator
Dead skin cells and blocked pores keep moisturiser from sinking in properly so it’s worth gently buffing your face twice weekly. That said, avoid harsh scrubs – a small amount of lactic acid will do the trick.
Layer your skincare
Winter calls for extra backup in the form of skincare allies. The most powerful of these is serum. Filled with potent doses of active ingredients, these liquid elixirs can dampen inflammation and plump out dehydration lines. “Preferably choose a concentrated serum containing hyaluronic acid and calming ingredients such as niacinamide to retain moisture and soothe flushed skin,” says Bonné. The cardinal rule is to layer your products from the thinnest texture to the thickest, ensuring your serum sits underneath moisturiser for effective absorption. “Each of your products contains a different concentration of ingredients designed to have a specific effect on the skin,” adds Nicolaisen. “Layering allows you to target multiple skin concerns.” She also advocates using SPF: “UVA rays are present even on cloudy days. Ice and snow both reflect UV rays and can cause sunburn, so SPF is a year-round commitment.”
Switch from a lightweight lotion or gel to a cream
Skin tends to hold more water in the summer due to increased humidity in the air, so a lighter lotion may have been enough to quench dry patches. But come winter, a more intensive three-pronged attack is called for. To avoid chapping, skin needs a minimum of 10 per cent water content for enzymes to trigger natural exfoliation. To up water content you need humectants (specifically hyaluronic acid and glycerin), which pull moisture from the atmosphere into the deeper layers of the skin to boost hydration. Likewise, your moisturiser should contain a higher ratio of oil to water (think sweet almond, cloudberry and jojoba seed oils) in the formula. Emollient ingredients such as shea butter, which has fats similar to those in the skin barrier, then physically block moisture from escaping.
Always apply body lotion on damp skin
Dermatologists have long warned against prolonged exposure to hot water as it can strip skin of its natural moisture. So keep your showers warm and brief. But did you know you also have a three-minute window to use your body lotion afterwards for best results? Wait any longer and moisture starts to evaporate from the skin before you can lock it in. “In ge-neral, moisturiser is most effective when applied to damp skin as it absorbs more readily,” explains Nicolaisen. Given the low levels of humidity in the winter air, it’s also worth slathering on creams with the bathroom door closed to trap that all-important steam.

SF!Muffet Bar/Brothel
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Goodness gracious; Okay, uhm... Let me see if I can answer these.
Why show their Souls at a Brothel?
Much like Humans who show skin, Monsters in Poi’s Brothel will more or less show their Souls for a way to gain someone’s attention for the night. Perhaps they show only the Glow of their Souls; Perhaps they will outright show their Souls; It all depends on the Monster and how comfortable they are with how much they show. Poi allows them to do this, to choose what is best for themselves, as long as they are gaining some type of attention at the end of the day and come out unharmed, she is more than willing to do whatever makes her workers comfortable.  Perhaps Poi also has some type of Dancing areas for a stage; I do see her having some nights with the ones under her work able to show off; Anyway they desire. Be it Strength, Vocals, Agility; It is up to the ones she employs. While they show off, it is important to show their Souls, or at least their Glow, to gain attention by the patreons.
Much like a Human Brothel showing skin, showing ones Soul is a way to gain attention.
Is it dangerous? Hell yes it is, they know this; Any creature in their world DOES. But that is also why Poi’s establishment is so well known. It plays the Taboo, plays Dangerous, and if Poi wasn’t as strong as she is, she wouldn’t have allow this to happen. But because her LV could probably rival the Queens, being beside her during the War long ago, Poi is more than capable to handle herself, her bar, AND her workers. She is able to keep everyone under her eyes safe with the use of her little Spiderlings; And her ability to create items from her thread that help in keeping track of her works Soul’s stressful situations.
Even when the day is done, Poi orders her Spiderlings to travel with her Workers to make sure they get home safe and sound. If Poi feels that certain Monsters of hers are in danger, she has her Spiderlings stay with them in secret and to produce poison to the ones who give her workers unwanted attention.
Truth be told; Poi’s establishment is one of the safest places to work in besides directly under the Queen. It can make more money, can be that of fun and sin, but mainly; It becomes of what Poi secretly desires... After losing it long ago, she tends to get attached to her workers, but more in that family sense. But, she doesn’t want to see it that way, so she keeps her mind diluted with fun of her own, but her attention never strays too far from her Spiders Web when things get ugly...
Is the Soul thing a whore thing?
It all depends on your definition of what a Whore really is, in my opinion.
Showing one’s Soul is suppose to be incredibly intimate. It is showing ones full Self, showing their Being to another one. What is the Human equivalent to this? Showing their naughty parts off, of course.
So, it can be a whore thing; It can be for other reasons. It depends on your mindset and how you see Humans work in this aspect.
Do they find it fun? Do they enjoy themselves? If they do, why are you judging?
Are they doing it for other reasons? Are they doing it because they feel like they must? That is for them to know, and Poi is safe to assure her workers that they don’t have to do anything someone says if they do not desire it. She makes it fun and easy going as much as she can to ensure that No One is in harm's way; Unless, of course, it’s by her hands and patreons cannot take No for an answer.
This should also be said that; Poi has a Elixir that allows her Workers to not be attached to their clients. Anything relating to the Soul is required to either be covered in a barrier that isn’t easily broken but allow only certain feelings to shine through for both parties excitement or can be drank to allow the workers only to show that they are looking for a Great Time with their clients. It’s a Soul Condom of sorts you could say; It dims their fears, it makes their excitement pulse and come to life; And it might be a Numbing drug... But, hey. Emotions suck, so why allow her workers be attached to clients easily? It had to be made so things wouldn’t get messy. And, everyone enjoys it, no one says they dislike using it, so it’s a win/win! There isn’t any side effects that harm, it’s not-... Too additive. Even the clients say that it produces more of a thrill, and that's all Poi could ask for.
Monster Species in the Brothel?;
Okay, this should be more self explained; But literally anything and anyone who wants to be in it.
Snowdrakes? Yup. A few dogs? Yup. A few rabbits here and there who didn’t desire to be in the Royal Guards... But still, even a few elementals have joined her; Water, Fire, Ice... Lava ones. It’s a smorgasbord of randoms! Allow your mind to wonder, and Poi might say she’s had a few of them work for her once a long time ago.
Poi might have a secret that she wishes one of her workers would come back... They were her top favorite of the Bar; But, sadly they stopped when their-... Family member... Found her plans and had them stop. It was a very sad day, but her favorite worker began to be her favorite Client... Even up in the Surface, she gives them discounts and tries to encourage them to come back every chance she gets.
They always decline, but she still teases them endlessly.
Most Appealing Soul for a Monster?;
Oh boy. Oh man. Okay, so.
The one that was able to bring her in LOADS of clients?... Well, she’s had Healers before. Those Healers had a lot within their Souls, a ton of Kindness despite their true tones... But god fucking dammit are THEY RARE! She had one specifically, but again, that damnable family member ruined it for her...
But normally, anyone who is willing to work for her and is able to be secretive is a plus.
You know how normally Monsters are made with Love, Hope, and Compassion? Well, back in the Underground, that stuff is replaced with corrupted versions; Love is Lust, Hope is Despair, and Compassion is Cruelty. It makes all of them up, but some will have a Humanized trait if their strong enough; Boss Monsters especially.
But, this is where a LOT of her ‘Poisons’ could come into play at. She’s great at mixing, great at creating, and even had to hide some of her more recent items from the Royal Scientist because of their ability to give her workers a more ‘Prep in their Steps’.
By that? I mean; Poi was able to create items to reverse the Monsters Souls for a limited time. Allowing a pure and, though fake, Soul to shine brighter from it. The elixir can be quite addictive and even be used as hard liquired Drugs. What she creates is pretty much illegal, but she makes sure that everyone stays off the radar... And if not? Well, there are reasons why her Spiderlings carry venom with them at all times. It’s not just to kill unwanted killers... Its to make sure everyone keeps their mouths Shut. She’s sad when she loses a good worker, but the days carry on and she replaces them almost as easy as a snap.
This is another area I will have to go and play with; But this is all that is coming to mind!
Thanks for asking, Folks!

How To Transit Your Skin Care Routine From Summer To Winter
Tumblr media
Your food and wardrobe aren’t the only things that require a refresh; the changing season also calls for an altered skincare routine and a focus more on hydration. After basking in warm temperatures with a minimalist skincare regime, winter has arrived and with it brings the worry of dry, flaky skin. Then, how to prep your skin for the cold days ahead? Well! By giving your skin the same consideration as your food and wardrobe. To begin with, introduce protecting products into your skincare regime as soon as the climate changes so that the skin is well prepared to tackle the biting cold outside. In general, the skin needs a bit of extra hydration. A thick, creamy moisturiser is like a winter coat, shielding your skin from chilly weather.
Here are five tips to help you maintain your winter skin routine and seamlessly make a transition in your skincare regime between seasons:
1) Switch from a normal cleanser to a gentle cleanser.
Tumblr media
Foaming cleansers blended with salicylic acid are good for springtime—they help clean pores and keep oil at bay during the summer. The only downside is that most of them also contain sulphates, harsh lathering agents that can strip your skin of its natural oils and worsen already parched winter skin. Switching to a gentle cleanser is the best way to keep skin well hydrated and uphold a healthy barrier throughout the chilly months.
2) Add a good exfoliator.
Tumblr media
Blocked pores and dead skin cells prevent moisturiser from penetrating into the skin properly, so it’s a good idea to gently exfoliate your face twice a week. Having said that, an absolute no-no for harsh scrubs; just a small amount of lactic acid will do the magic. Well! If you are looking for some organic products, SSPCL’s Mix Fruit Scrub is the best option for you. This skin-friendly scrub gently removes dead skin cells and hydrates your skin to give you a perfect glow, even in the winter.
3) Add an extra layer to your skincare
Winter calls for extra layers in terms of clothes for our bodies and our skin in the form of skincare allies. Serums are the most powerful skin products of all. Filled with a potent amount of rich ingredients, these liquid elixirs retain moisture and soothe chapped skin. The basic rule here is to layer your products in order from the thinnest to the thickest texture, so make sure your serum sits beneath your moisturiser for better absorption. Also, never forget your SPF. Even the cloudy or windy climate reflects UV rays, so SPF should be a four-season commitment.
4) The transition from lightweight to thick cream-based moisturiser
Tumblr media
Switch from a lightweight lotion to a cream-based moisturizer. During the summer months, due to increased humidity, skin tends to hold more water, so even a lighter moisturiser works wonders. However, in the winter, skin tends to dry out due to lower humidity. To avoid chapping, our skin needs extra hydration, which comes from a thick cream-based moisturiser or lotion. Likewise, for winter, your moisturiser must contain a higher proportion of oil to water. Emollient ingredients, such as shea butter, contain fats that are very similar to those found in the skin barrier, which helps to keep moisture in the skin. You can try SSCPL’s Cocoa and Shea Butter Lotion for extra moisturization and hydration.
5) Winter skincare: What to Do and What Not to Do
No hot showers. Prolonged exposure to hot water strips the skin of its natural oils, leaving it dry and rough. One thumb rule in skincare is applying moisturisers to damp skin. Moisturizer acts best when applied to damp skin as it tends to absorb more easily. Eat right and include fruits and berries rich in antioxidants to help your skin glow. Keep yourself hydrated by consuming lots of fluids such as water, fresh juices, buttermilk, etc.
So, welcome winter and enjoy chilly nights, keeping your worries at bay and saying hello to the full range of skincare products by SSCPL Herbals, which are specifically crafted to suit your skin during chilly winters.

'Get ready for September, as we will be bringing the magic of Charlotte Tilbury to life in all its glowing glory for MECCA's biggest launch ever.' MECCA founder Jo Horgan said MECCA customers have been vocal about getting Charlotte Tilbury into her store for years Charlotte (pictured) previously shared her tips for looking younger, including using makeup that also combines skincare elements Charlotte's tips for ageing gracefully 1. Look for skincare and makeup: Try to find skin and makeup hybrid products as these are the ones that will make you look younger. 2. Consider the texture of products: A cream will work well on your eyes, lips and cheeks, while something that is light and water-based will also allow your complexion to breathe. 3. Add a serum: In these decades, you absolutely need a serum in your routine - to be used morning and night. 4. Go lighter: Instead of black eyeliner, switch to brown for a softer look. 5. Perfect the feline flick: A feline flick with eyeliner will draw the gaze outwards and accentuate your eyes. Speaking previously to FEMAIL, Charlotte shared her tips and tricks for staying looking youthful as you get older. When it comes to your thirties, forties, fifties and beyond, Charlotte explained that you're going to want your makeup to work a little harder, while also helping to make you look younger. 'Look for products that are makeup and skincare hybrids during these decades - like my Airbrush Flawless Foundation,' Charlotte told Daily Mail Australia. 'These sorts of products will work hard at nourishing your skin and reducing the appearance of wrinkles, while also hydrating and providing you with coverage.' The makeup artist also said you should look at textures in your makeup at this time - she always looks for 'sophisticated' textures with subtle sparkle and a bit of pearlescence. 'Lighter, water-based textures are always better for our complexions too, as they hydrate and let the skin breathe,' she said. Think creams for your eyes, lips and cheeks and brown eyeliner instead of black to soften your entire look. If you could add one product to your regime at this time, Charlotte recommends a serum like her Magic Serum Crystal Elixir, which helps to add 'bounce, plumpness and elasticity'. 'This has been the perfect addition to my personal skincare regime and I use it by massaging just a few drops into my skin with my fingertips,' Charlotte said. 'The instant hit of intense hydration makes my skin look and feel so glowy, and it makes makeup application so much easier.' She also said a feline flick works well into these decades too, as it will help to accentuate your eyes and draw the gaze outwards with your face. Charlotte Tilbury will be available in MECCA stores from September. For more information about Charlotte Tilbury, please click here.  How to perfect the Charlotte Tilbury 'feline flick' with eyeliner Charlotte shared how to do her perfect 'feline flick' with eyeliner (Sofia pictured) * For a long time, Charlotte has been a fan of the 'feline flick' winged eyeliner look, to such an extent that it has become one of her signature looks and the most watched content on her YouTube channel. * Speaking to FEMAIL, Charlotte said: 'A feline flick can really lift and elongate the eyes, giving them the appearance of a more feline, seductive shape.' * To do the feline flick, Charlotte said you need the right tools - a liquid eyeliner like her Feline Flick pen, a highlighter and a moisturiser like her Magic Cream to dab up mistakes. * 'Before you begin, start by adding a highlighter to the inner corner of the eye and underneath the bottom lash line, 1/3 or the way along the lash line to really open up and widen the look of the eyes,' Charlotte said. * 'Then, to add shape to the eyes, go for a thinner feline flick as this will elongate the appearance of the eye and add more definition to the lash line,' she said. * You should take your liquid eyeliner and start in the inner corner of the eye, drawing as closely as possible to the lashline until you are 2/3 of the way out. From this point on, Charlotte recommends you thicken the line, sweeping the pen 'up and out'. * 'Next, look in the mirror and draw a dot where you want your flick to end,' she said. 'This should be two millimetres up and out from the outer corner of your eye as a guideline. Compare them both and join the dots.' * If you are wayward with the liquid eyeliner, the makeup artist recommends using a little bit of Magic Cream to clean up any mistakes. My Beauty Routine: Elizabeth
While it’s fun to read about the beauty habits of celebrities, I find it most helpful to learn about the beauty habits of women who have lifestyles, ages, or budgets similar to mine. In this series, I’ve asked amazing women I know to share their beauty routines. These are women from across the country, different ages, lifestyles, professions, and beauty/skincare priorities.
Name: Elizabeth
Age: 45
Location: Arlington, Virginia
Profession: Diplomat (follow my style adventures on Instagram)
Tell me a bit about your skincare and/or routine.
I am definitely a high maintenance person when it comes to hair and skincare. Now that I'm in my mid-40s, I feel like the time I invest in having well-maintained hair and skin saves me tons of time on a daily basis and lets me leave the house feeling my best (almost) every day.
Evening Routine:
Morning is all about getting my skin ready for makeup. In my current diplomatic assignment I appear on TV and am photographed and I want my makeup to hold up all day and starting with well-prepped skin is key.
Step One is to cleanse. Don't believe the hype that just a water rinse will do it – get the residual product, dead skin cells, and sweat off your skin. Get your circulation going with a little morning face massage with cleanser. I alternate between IS Clinical Cleansing Complex and Omorovicza Refining Facial Polisher.
Step Two is toner and I always use Caudalie Beauty Elixir. I love everything about this and it is the one product (apart from sunscreen, obviously) that I would take to a deserted island.
Step Three is serum and I alternate between IS Clinical Pro-Heal and IS Clinical Hydracool. These are the gold standards of skin care and the Pro-Heal gives me vitamin C to ensure my pigmentation stays in check. I've tried a bunch of Vitamin C serums and always come back to this one.
Step Four is a moisturizing sunscreen. I use Elta MD in the tinted version on my face and the clear version on my neck and chest. One note here that I always take my skin care down my neck and onto my chest. I want to try to avoid having a young(er) looking face and older(er) looking neck and chest. I also chug a big glass of water while I wait for the sunscreen to really settle before I start makeup.
Once my skin is prepped, I do the same makeup routine every day. It has really helped streamline my mornings and ensures I always have the same polished look where you see me and not my makeup. I call it my #facedresscode
I start with my eyes and this takes 5 minutes of my overall 10 minute morning makeup routine.
Primer: I spread a thin layer of Nars ProPrime Smudgeproof eyeshadow base over my entire lid
Liner: I line my upper waterline with Nars Larger than Life Longwear Liner in Via Veneto. This gives my eyes a subtle definition that is quicker than liquid liner. I line my lower waterline with a nude pencil (a makeup artist trip to make the eyes pop) and use the Nars Longwear Liner in the Rue Bonaparte color.
Shadow: I use the Tom Ford Cocoa Mirage quad and do a basic application of the lightest shade all over my lid, a combo of the two middle shades in my crease, and I use the darkest shade with an angled brush to line my upper lid and the bottom third of my lower lids.
Brows: I use Trish McEvoy brow mascara to give my brows good definition. For a long time, I believed that since I have dark brows I didn't need to bother with this but it is a little step that makes a big impact on my finished face.
Mascara: I've tried so. many. mascaras. At all price points from the (ridiculously expensive and so not worth the money $72 Chantecaille) to the over-hyped “Better than Sex” to the iconic pink tube of Great Lash and the winner is L'Oreal's Lash Paradise. Good coverage, no flakes, no raccoon eyes, and a price that means I can replace the tube monthly and always have that fresh mascara feel.
After eyes are done I concentrate on skin. I like a full coverage foundation and am a longtime Estee Lauder Double Wear user. I have tried the Armani, Dior, and Nars full coverage and buildable formulations but always come back to Double Wear. I apply with a brush.
I do a quick swipe of concealer (a mix of Dior Fix-It 2 in 1 Prime and Color Correct in Apricot and Cle De Peau concealer in medium) though I find I need very little post-filler.
Then a quick shadow under my cheekbones with the contour shade from Charlotte Tilbury's Instant Look in a Palate and then a pop of Nars Orgasm blush on the apples of my cheeks.
I finish with a very very light sweep of Make Up Forever HD powder in my T zone to set everything for the day.
Then I do lips. After lots of experimentation (are you sensing a theme!) I have settled on a combo of Trish McEvoy Essential Pencil in nude followed by Tom Ford Lip Color in Spanish Pink. This gives me good staying power and a consistent look that is polished and doesn't have people asking what lip color I'm wearing. I use Buxom Lip Polish gloss in Dolly since I love the minty tingle and can apply it without a mirror for a quick touch up.
Has your skincare and/or beauty routine changed due to age, lifestyle, career, etc.?
The need for a consistent makeup look day in and day out led to the routine outlined above. I used to have drawers upon drawers of makeup and always felt like I was searching for “the right thing.” The decision to move to a #facedresscode was a great choice. I have a small kit now that is always at my fingertips and it has really streamlined my mornings.
What is the best skincare or beauty advice you ever got and from whom?
I am a devotee of British skincare guru Caroline Hirons (check out her blog) and follow her double cleaning instructions every night no matter how tired I am. It has literally been years since I missed washing my face at night, and I think it is one of the reasons my skin is (for the most part) even and predictable. I also see a dermatologist at least quarterly and for DMV folks, I highly recommend Dr. Lily Talakoub and Sarah Walker at McLean Dermatology. From skin checks to microneedling, filler to dermaplaning, I have been really impressed at what they have helped me achieve with skin that was the bane of my teenaged existence.
What is your must-have holy grail beauty or skincare product?
Trentonin .025% for real skin smoothing results and Caudalie Beauty Elixir for hydration and a great “pick me up” spritz.
What is your biggest beauty or skincare regret or embarrassment?
I regret that it took me so long to embrace my fair skin and that I subjected it to ridiculous sunbathing (and even the occasional tanning booth in college – what was I thinking?) I am diligent now about sunscreen every day and am glad that I can (with the help of my dermatology team) reduce the effects of prior poor choices.
What nugget of skincare or beauty wisdom do you wish you could give to your younger self?
Stay out of the sun, get a dermatologist you trust, and establish a makeup #facedresscode

Skincare in Noosa, Queensland
Tumblr media
Getting skincare in Noosa, Queensland from a spa is the ultimate beauty luxury. It’s very indulgent to have someone cater to your skin’s needs and to get various steps of pampering. From exfoliation, to masks, to extractions to luxurious oils applied to your face, when you walk out of a spa your skin feels great. However, a facial can come with a high price tag. We’re telling you about some ways to recreate a few spa beauty hacks at home. These tips are simple but can go a long way.
One of the best parts about getting a facial is when you lay under a steam machine to open your pores. Aside from feeling super relaxing and luxe, it really does a great job of opening up our pores. Using steam to open up your pores helps dirt, grime and oil release from skin. It can help you deeply cleanse your skin and combat blemish-causing bacteria and dirt to take up residence in your pores leading to blackheads or whiteheads. Additionally, it helps prep your skin to better accept your other skin products. That means that your toner, mask, moisturizer or scrub can work more effectively once you’ve applied steam to your skin.
Double Cleanse of your skin is another thing to keep in mind. Dermatologists and estheticians at spas work really hard to remove every last bit of makeup, sweat, grime and dirt from your face. They often employ several steps to ensure your skin is completely clean and that’s a technique you can easily recreate in your home. First remove traces of makeup and residue that may have accumulated on your skin throughout the day with micellar water, which is a no-rinse cleansing water that attracts and lifts dirt, oil, and makeup from your skin like a magnet. Saturate two cotton pads with micellar water, press the cotton pads against your skin, the gently wipe them across you skin to remove your makeup and any build-up. Follow this process by using a gentle cleansing milk to hydrate and restore your skin, as well as deep clean your pores.
Skincare spas in Noosa, Queensland often have exciting scrubs with exclusive formulas but many of them use brown sugar as a base. It’s gentle and exfoliates very well. Make your own sugar scrub at home with honey and brown sugar. Apply to freshly cleansed skin and gently massage to lift any dead surface skin cells. Wash off with lukewarm water to reveal super soft, glowing skin. Now you have a freshly cleansed complexion that is perfectly prepped for your toning and hydrating products.
You have to set a schedule for your facial treatment. A good way to pamper your skin is through facial masks can be hydrating and replenishing for your skin. If you have oily skin there are also masks formulated with kaolin that can help regulate excess oil production on your skin. Masks can be highly effective on skin but one problem that often arises is that people leave masks on for too long. When a masks fully dries it actually starts to remove precious moisture from your skin. A nifty way that spas avoid doing this is by timing every single step of their facials. You can recreate this at home by setting a timer on your phone to avoid the mask sitting too long on your skin. Indulge in your mask and its skin-beautifying qualities until your timer rings and it’s time to wash it off. Five to ten minutes is a good time frame for getting its great skin benefits.
Toning is essential to skin care, when you get a facial, your esthetician usually applies several serums, oils or essences to your skin. These can have a variety of qualities such as polishing or smoothing, and can target fine lines or dark spots. You can do the same at home without any fancy elixirs by simply enlisting products formulated with antioxidants. Vitamin C can help brighten your skin and reduce the appearance of dark spots over time. Retinol has exfoliating qualities and deeply cleanses pores. It can help address skin issues such as fine lines and skin dullness, making your skin look more refreshed. Antioxidants such as Vitamin E, Vitamin C and green tea help protect skin from free radicals and can also make it appear more polished in appearance. You can recreate the effect of antioxidants at home by using moisturizers or peels formulated with these ingredients.

Post Vanilla Lips
This is a rough draft of the worst sort. Don’t read too much into this, I am just too excited to hold back. Future Bughead from me to you.
Family was deeper than blood.
Jughead always said our family was deeper than Sweet Water River itself and as much as I laughed at him as he spun me around our kitchen that smells like maple and sticky-sweet covered fingers, I couldn’t laugh at him for not calling it true.
Family was the feeling of little hands creeping up my sides and his rougher, more used ones as he cupped my face. Jughead is my home, Founders Street was were our home sat. I had two smiling faces, one was small and blonde who was stuck to my hip-side who looked up at me all bright-summer and blue; the other was a dark-ochre-worry eyed one who was approaching rapidly in growth to meet me in the eye with his lopsided grin and dark hair.
Family was all I ever wanted. I was the little girl from the suburbia of Riverdale who dreamed of the dark-eyed man who would sweep me off my feet with the strong arms and a passion for providing. What I was instead swept up in was the guy with the bright blue eyes and sinew for a body all tall-dark and long-forever limbs with the black-deep mind and a sharp-whip tongue. And a passion for me.
Every morning pulled me up and up with the up-turned grin and the rushed-mom like mind. I woke up for the sticky-sweet-maple hands that rushed to mouths that were hungry. And even though I was messy-bun haired and mismatched pyjama tops and bottoms, I would be lying if I said that this didn’t make my happiness orbit around it.
But today Jughead wore the t-shirt that is now over-used grey as opposed to the stark white that it used to be. I keep my smile on as he dances around the kitchen to Kings of Leon – Arizona. It was soft rifts and clashing-thunder drums but it was only five in the morning and the kitchen is buzzing higher than a night club. Bacon sizzles under the grill with eggs fried in butter, toast smoke lifting it’s arms to the alarm. His t-shirt doesn’t match the hive that’s humming because all I can see is where the blood used to be.
He wears it like a badge of honour, but all I see is the blood of what could have been.
A funny thing, blood.
Jughead always told me that blood didn’t define us. We had six years worth of blood in the one six-year old sass-filled, blonde-tipped girl in front of us but he didn’t separate the blood from the truth. She wasn’t a single drop of his blood but her mind and heart was all Jughead Jones.
That day I lost Jughead’s blood, I could smell the iron in it. It felt like iron too, all cold and heavy. I remember there being so much cold-red, sticky-tacky – it spilt everywhere. He wore white that day and I tried rough-scrubbing it out but it didn’t come clean. He wore it around the house. The dress I wore, well, it was up in red-hot flames. I used Jughead’s zippo lighter on the ground with the dress that was white turned red-defeat.
Sometimes Riverdale was unforgiving and unearthed every secret to every open ear which was many because Riverdale did nothing but pry with open eyes and ears and there was so many remorseful whispers given to me for months. They felt sorry for me, I can’t fault them for that.  They thought Jughead would have wanted a baby that was his. But they don’t realise that I did too. But Dizzy Izzy was all his, if not in blood then definitely in heart and soul. She was his sunlight, his Summerchild, Summerbaby but Dizzy was born in the wake of winter but she lit his world up like a hot summers day with sweated skin and sun-dried clothes.
I quick-snap my head back up when Jughead reaches for me, pulling on my hand to pull me closer to his sleep-dream eyes that were trying to waken with the music. “Betts, you want a coffee?” he asks me.
“Mom, why do people like coffee so much?” Isabelle asks me.
I take out my hair from my tight-bun and let it fall, shaking it out before tying it back up. I walk around the counter to messy-kid blonde hair and kiss the forehead of my baby girl who looks so much like me. “Ask your dad,” I tell her, answering the one-millionth question.
She frowns because six-year-old Miss doesn’t like short answers. “Dad?” she asks. “Why do you like coffee?”
Jughead smiles to himself and moves his beanie on his head, messing sleep-dark locks. “It’s the elixir of life, Summerbaby, I told you that.”
“That’s yesterdays answer,” she groans, kicking her soft feet on the back of the counter. “I’m talking about today.”
“Talk about today to Leon,” Jughead says pouring steam-burn hot water into my cup of coffee. “Go wake him up, tell him his namesakes are playing on the stereo.”
Isabelle frowns again and pouts pink-light lips. “I don’t want to go in there,” she mumbles under her breath. “He always yells at me.”
“But today is the day of all days,” Jughead says sternly. “Go on, Dizzy Izzy, you get him up.”
Dizz sighs and kicks off the counter and slides her chair back. “Mom, can you go in? He always yells at me!”
I laugh and run my hand through her hair, getting caught in sleepy-knots. “Not today, he won’t.” I tell her. “Like dad said, today is the day of all days!”
“Why?” she asks, one million and two questions like every day. “Is it his birthday?”
Jughead spins on his heels and offers me a cup. “Today’s more specialer than that,” he says with a wink.
“Christmas?” she says with a smirk, knowing full well it’s not.
She starts walking away slowly, dragging her feet behind her, I bop her on the backside and she giggles. “Leon’s been with us one whole year so we’re celebrating…”
“Hence the bacon,” Jughead adds. “We do bacon on special days, just like Aunty Ronnie.”
Dizzy runs out of the kitchen and I look at morning-strong coffee in my cup, I take a sip before walking over to Juggie. He sleep-smiles at me and rubs his eyes before moving his hand to my face, running it down my neck, over my shoulder, down to fingertips and to rest on my stomach. “What time are you starting this morning?” I ask him as I move his hand away from my empty stomach. “I don’t have to be at school until after eleven…”
He smiles with his eyes and kisses me on me jaw, placing a soft kiss on my neck. “No work today, I told you last night,” he laughs. His eyes flutter on my skin before he pulls away to look at me. “Prepping for the big day, might have some one on one boy stuff going..”
And he looks and looks, I start blushing under his gaze which makes him weaker and smile more. “We could have some fun when the kids go to school,” I say, looking at him then frowning. “There will be no boy stuff, Leon has to go to school.”
“Fun?” he asks me, biting his lip, ignoring me. “I’m down for fun with you. Tell me more about this fun.”
“Just fun,” I reassure him as he tight-grips onto the handle of his coffee cup. “Not dictated, planned, fun.”
I can see him mulling thoughts over in his brain. For a long time we tried and tried and the fun might not have been so fun anymore – especially after we lost our blood. But lately fun had been a little more fun and not planned, sometimes it was at three in the morning, sometimes in the back of the truck or the bathroom floor. I was becoming fun again and not half-way-through tears. “I like fun.”
“I know you do -”
“Mom!” Izzy calls. “Dad! He’s not getting up!”
“Probably because it’s not even six yet,” Juggie says rolling his eyes. “Don’t bug him, Dizz, it’s ok.”
“But bacon!” she cries, looking defeated. I laugh and I rush over to her, brushing back her hair from her eyes.
“Bacon will wait,” I comfort her. “You just eat your breakfast, ok?”
“Summerchild,” Jug replies to our daughter. “Tonight is a special night, ok? We gotta put on a big show for Leon, remind him why we love him.”
“I don’t love him,” she mumbles. “He teases me and he doesn’t let me touch his stuff.”
I look from Jughead to Dizz with a smirk. His love-hate for Dizz probably stems from the fact that sticky fingers always leave prints on his iPad and sand ends up on the floor of his allocated room. He had been with us since she was almost fresh-five and he was broken-hurt thirteen.  She had a quick-smart mouth like her father from an early age and all he had heard was the hiss-burning of lighting up and the pounding of flesh. “It’s his stuff for a reason. Don’t touch if he tells you not to, it’s not hard.”
Jughead can sense the storm brewing from all the way near the stove top and he shakes his head. “Come on Summerbaby, let’s get you ready for school, yeah?”
“Will you guys take me to school today?” she asks, clapping her hands. “I don’t want to go with Aunty V and Abel,” she groans. “Abel’s not nice either.”
“Abel thinks he’s cool because he’s almost nine,” Jughead explains. “But he loves his Dizzy Izzy.”
“Abel doesn’t call me Dizzy Izzy anymore…”
I kiss my blondie on the head again. “Boys stink, Dizz, it’s just the way it is.”
She sniggers. “You’re right mom,” she laughs. “Leon’s room smells weird.”
“Because he’s fourteen and growing,” Jughead laughs. “Don’t hold it against him.”
Dizz pouts her lips and taps her feet on clean wooden floors. “Will he be living with us forever?” she asks us.
My heart tightens and my own lips form a stern line. I couldn’t answer that but I have learnt in the last six years that mother’s hold most of the answers and so I decide to answer her, because that’s what she’s living for at the moment. “I hope so,” I answer. “I really hope he stays here forever.”
Jughead looks at me, serious faced and telling me my answer was weak. “He’s our family now, Isabelle. And we have to make sure he feels that.”
“Why do we keep listening to this song?” Dizz asks us. “You always listen to this song.”
I listen more to Arizona;
That taste All I ever wanted All I ever needed Just too dumb to surrender She shakes like a mornin’ railway, checking me out Someone on her shoulder
“It’s his song, Dizzy. We’re playing it for him…” Jughead tells her.
I smile at Jughead, he winks back. We both smile to the morning sun.

If you put makeup directly onto a client's face without skin prep, you are in for a disaster. Not prepping the skin leads to issues such as peeling, dry patches, cracked or piling foundation, and so on. Head to my shop to view Sonia's full line of products and to order some for yourself. Of course, you can always book a personal makeup lessons(virtual or in-person) with me to learn more about skincare and makeup.
