#WHAT IS A TRIPLEACE?!

Hello again my tripleace gurl! Done dirty by the creators!!
I AM STILL SO CONFUSED, WHAT IS A TRIPLEACE?!
(I thank you still most kindly for the ask but please send me another explaining this word!! ^^;; )
Also, sorry for the delay of a few days in responding, I was out of town till today!!
Tumblr media
And aaaawwwwwwaaaaaaay we go! XD
Fireball XL5: Hmmm, hard one. Obviously the way Venus was written out of the Century 21 comics is the go to, and one I'm VERY annoyed at (actually pretty much hate. I ADORE the stories from the comics, indeed story wise I generally prefer the comics to the show... BUT THERE IS NO VENUS AND IT SUCKS)
Outside of that / in the show proper.... hmm. I can't really think of one, to be honest?
======
Stingray: Again, the reoccuring and severe issue of the ladies being written out of the comics. Hate it so much beucase OUTSIDE of that the comics are TONS of fun.
As for the show proper obviously Phones once again Nah, nah. While he was underutilized, I can't honestly say that Phones was done dirty by the creators XD
I'm gonna go with an odd one here, and say the Aquaphibians. Their abilities tend to vary WIDELY, and we tend to get either 'totally evil and crazy to boot and want to kill anything that is not us (Triton and his forces) or... kinda useless and passive characters who don't DO anything on their own / need constant saving. Marina is an exception to this (even if she DOES get herself in trouble on the regular, she isn't PASSIVE and always TRIES. ***TRYING OCCURED*** success varies, and mind she DOES save the day quite often, but rather like Troy there is a strong trend of 'trying occurred, success debatable' XD
But the Aquaphibians OUTSIDE of her (not including evil ones) Just don't get to DO much of anything
======
Lady Penelope: Parker in the show, particularly in the two films. He just... came across as less useful and having less courage in the show/films than he did in the comics (and ESPECIALLY the novels. Parker got to SHINE in the LP and TB novels. Theydon obviously loved Parker and it shows). But outside of one or two moments when he got to show off his skills, Parker gets undercut in the show proper (and particularly in the films), which is too bad becuase he's REALLY AWESOME in the comics and novels.
TAG Penny: Penny herself. I don't get WHY the creators went the route they did with Penny.... maybe they didn't want two bad ass spies in the show? But if you could 'only have one'... PENNY SHOULD HAVE KEPT HER SPY STATUS, she is one of the FIRST female spy characters, was a 'female James Bond' and was (And is) quite an icon for who and what she was, esp for how EARLY it was in film/television.... Just let Penny be the special ops/spy and give Kayo her own skillset - focus more on the security side of things and drop the special ops for her. But as it stands, Penny got nerfed pretty badly in TAG. She's young, naive, uncertain of herself, has no combat or stealth skills, gets quite emotional (and fearful) fairly often, and even her socialite skills feel... a bit roughshod and 'just getting started'. *shrugs* I like her, but only so long as I consider her to be an OC that happens to share the same name as the og Penny.
======
Thunderbirds: Comics erasing Grandma and TinTin. Again, REALLY SUCKS given how much I love the comic stories.
In the show proper... Grandma. She comes across as foolish and fearful in "Move... and You're Dead!" and then doesn't really get to DO ANYTHING in the other episodes outside of remembering the Underground one time. The novels, thankfully, correct this - making her a calm and strong willed, yet still incredibly KIND and down to earth woman, who gets to really hold the family together and pulls Jeff out of a vicious depressive spiral when it seems like Alan, Virgil, and Scott have been killed; TinTin, Brains, and Lady Penelope have been kidnapped; and the Hood has successfully captured Thunderbird Three. It's one of my favorite moments IN the novels, and it really defined Grandma Tracy to me when I was a kid, so I ended up quite disappointed when she didn't really get moments like she did in the novels in the show. We get a GLIMPSE of it in Vault of Death (and End of the Road as well to a degree) but I never really got to see the Grandma I'd come to know in the novels in the show.
TAG: Can I count machines in this? BECUASE I REALLY WANT TO!! :( Thunderbird One got NERFED, y'all. In making it where all the TBs can solo missions (and removing Scott's role as Field Commander... seriously, does Scott get to succeed in ANY mission solo?! He doesn't ever really act as commander, that goes to Sally, and every time he's on a rescue he seems to just do what others tell him to do instead of soloing it), One got nerfed. She's FAST yes, but her sensor/scanner array is gone, she lacks the ability to bring gear (or people) to rescues so the rescues she can solo are HIGHLY limited, and it just... feels like they kept the basics of each craft without really understanding the role each craft brought to the table. Four and Three weren't used that often simply becuase they were HIGHLY specialized (and you has WASP and WARP/Fireballs canonically handling rescues in those areas so there wasn't much call for them... and technically Four is a Pod vehicle like the Mole and Firefly and Domo... it's just that she's GORDON'S personal craft, thus she s given the Thunderbird status because THAT IS WHAT MAKES A CRAFT A THUNDERBIRD - and is what thunderbird 6 didn't understand. If Gordon had been focused on mining or firefighting, Thunderbird Four would have been the Mole/Firefly and not the sub) five was the communications hub and rescue call receiver, two was the workhorse/ heavy hauler... one's purpose was to GET ON SITE FAST so that Scott could figure out what they needed / how to affect the rescue... and in the comics and novels, there are many times that Scott just coordinates the rescue with locals and/or acts as a scout to find a missing person or the like.
04 Film: Gordon, Virgil, and Scott. They could have been written out of the Film and no one would have noticed :(
======
Captain Scarlet: hrrrrrrrrrrrmmmmm.... ....oh this one is HARD. I guess if I had to choose, then it'd be Black. We only get a glimpse of who he was before hand, and the show treats him as if he was VOLUNTARILY helping the Mysterons / is evil himself (even to the point that he is called a Mysteron Agent) when he is really the first victim of the Mysterons and one held and tortured by them the longest. ...we're told in supplemental material that Black was a REALLY GOOD man, honorable and admired by pretty much everyone that knew him. It feels like the creators did him dirty when who he is/was is never mentioned and no attempt is made to save him or even specify that he (basically) is just the Mysterons using him as a mask
new Captain Scarlet: Destiny (and Magenta). They managed to take one of the top five most popular characters from the OG and turn her (and Magenta) into the most disliked by the fanbase - to the point where both were basically written out of Season 2 as much as possible. I went in expecting to LOVE Destiny as she has long been in my top 3 CS characters... and it ended up being the Godfather 'look at how they massacred my boy' meme

Title:  Remi    Series: A Vampire’s Thirst  Release Date: #AlreadyReleased Author: Elaine Barris Reviewer: Ingrid Stephanie Jordan  Serial: Standalone, No Cliffhanger  Genre: #PRN #Vampires   #5Stars🌟⭐🌟🌟🌟 ••••••••••••••      This is really a phenomenal book from the first page, to the last-full of Blood Thirst and Murder. ••••••••••••      Remi Bellerive is a Vampire who plays high stakes poker. His wife, Grace and their unborn child died from a disease in the early eighteen-hundreds. Her last gift to him was a deck playing card which became his price possession. Although his cards were discolored plus really worn he still played with his deck of cards, he was the undisputed champion. He was always playing and winning he even won Michelle. There was one person called TripleAce who won occasionally in it put Remi in a bad place. What Remi didn't know was TripleAce wanted to win, so bad he'd do what had to do, no matter what it was he would do it. TripleAce played dirty.  •••••••••••• Sophie is Human, she was also Gregors good luck charm. He was very abusive and he kept her hostage. If she could only escape before he hands her over to Hans. •••••••••••• At The Directive’s headquarters in Europe they have notice someone's on a killing spree in New Orleans  they sent some detectives to search for the serial killer. Clarence, Jana and Magno met Ethan in New Orleans Airport and then the hunt was on of coarse they are Werewolves Shifters they love to run and hunt.  ••••••••••••      A copy of this book was provided to me with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book and my comments here are my honest opinion.

aight my fellow tripleace gurl an easy one for ya. popular ships suck
I... um.    ...don’t know what a tripleace is.  *baffled jedi is baffled* Thank you for the ask though!! ^^
Tumblr media
Although... yeah this one would be easy, as I am very much NOT a romantic (heck I generally don’t even KNOW all the ships or what the popular ships are, and I pretty much never read romance fics or romance novels)
So what I’m gonna do is make this a bit of a challenge for myself (if only so I get to geek out and ramble more XD )
I’m gonna do two lists of three:  The Romantic, Platonic, and Familial ships that I dislike the most, and the ones I like the most.
...putting this under a read more cause I suspect this is gonna get BIG
Fireball
      Disliked Romantic: Commander Zero and Lt Ninety.  For a few reasons, really, but the big ones are that Zero is married with a kid and I legit can not see him being the type to CHEAT on said family... and while the interactions between Ninety and Zero are fun when it’s superior officer and lower-ranking officer and/or friendship...  it’s not the sort of dynamic I like to see in romance.  Plus I just... honestly get absolutely no romantic vibes from the duo?        Disliked Platonic: Any of the XL5 crew being besties with the Space Spys.  Those two cause a lot of havoc and destruction (and heavily implied deaths) and we never see them hesitate or debate or step back.  and I can’t see the XL5 crew being willing to be friends with people like that.  Maybe in an AU or a fic where effort is put into making the Spys more than what they are in canon or the like, but in general I just actively dislike this friendship       Disliked Familial: There was a disturbing trend in fanfics a while back to make Professor Crabtree (Venus’ dad) or even worse Zero into abusive parents, just absolute SCUM and I... really hate those fics.  Zero especially is a good father who obviously adores his son and always makes time for him nd I don’t like seeing a canoncally good parent turned into a monster  ---       Favorite Romantic: Gonna go the obvious route here / official route and admit that I really like the Venus and Steve ship ^^;;.  They balance each other out well, have deep mutual respect for each other, and are friends on top of it.  Their interactions in the show and comics tend to ones I enjoy (although I generally prefer the non-romantic scenes but...  old aroace) ^^;;       Favorite Platonic: Hm, tough one.  I’d say most likely the friendship between Matt, Steve, and Venus.  You can tell that these are good solid friends who know and care and respect each other.  They occasionly butt heads, but it’s rare and they’ll always have the others’ backs.       Favorite Familial: Probably Zero and Jonathan ^^  Zero is this big blustery short tempered guy who is angry and ornary most of the time, but he’s always calm and gentle with Jonathan (and Eleanor), if sometimes a bit uncertain or gruff.  Just love to see it ^^
======
Stingray
      Disliked Romantic: Hm.  Troy and Marina with a note that I don’t hate it at all and have read many fics WITH said ship that I quite enjoyed.  It’s just that it isn’t one I can really see or agree with in canon after the first... 10? or so episodes in broadcast order.  Troy is ABSOLUTELY infatuated with Marina at first, and Marina is infatuated with him for a long time too... and more vitally if you watch the series in broadcast order that infatuation continues the FULL RUN of the series so I can totally see where those who ship it and consider it canon are coming from.  For me it’s just that I’ve always watched in production order and the romance between the two drops off fairly early on (earlier for Troy than Marina) and Troy sets his cap at Atlanta.  So not so much a dislike as a ‘since I use production order it isn’t one I can see once you’re past the first 10 or so episodes timeline wise?       ...oh and I hate Triton romantic shipped with anyone, I will just hit that back button SO darn fast.  Even X-20.  NopeNopeNope, do not like.       Disliked Platonic: Marina being friends with X-20 or even worse friends with Triton.  There’s been one or two ‘X-20 has a change of heart and tries to make good and the end is him and Marina becoming friends’ but as things stand in canon both are a big ol’ NOPE from me.       Disliked Familial: hm.  I’ve seen a few where Commander Shore or Aphony are distant or even abusive fathers and I loathe to see it for the same reason I hate to see it in Fireball.  Can’t think of any other family ships I dislike? --- Favorite Romantic: solid tie here XD       Troy and Atlanta is my favorite, as I like teh chaotic and often stumbling aspect between the two in canon, yet how they always end up back with each other, and even when they’re ‘off’ from each other, there is still a deep respect for each other present and the sense that even if Troy HAD ended up setting his cap at Marina, he and Atlanta would have remained friends once things settled.       Phones and Marina is another fav of mine, although it isn’t anywhere near as strongly supported in canon - just two gentle and sweet people finding and settling comfortably together makes me happy       (I’ve always kinda headcanoned Denver and Fisher as homosexual, with Fisher having an unrequited crush on Troy, and Denver and commander shore having been together in the past before Shore fell in love with and married Atlanta’s mother, and now the two are in that ‘friends but sometimes romantic’ field - not ships I’ve ever really seen much of, but *shrugs*)       Favorite Platonic: Marina and Atlanta’s friendship.  There’s the fake out in the pilot where it seems like Atlanta is going to be mean or even cruel to Marina in order to keep Troy... but it’s a fake out.  Next episode shows her being polite to Marina, and only a few episodes later she is willfully taking part in the ‘make Marina’s room nice for her to welcome her in’ plot.  Even staying long after Troy and Phones leave to make sure the mural is just right.  The two have dozens of fantastic interactions where you can just SEE the strong friendship the two have developed and how deep that friendship is.  and I just... love friendships so much?!  Especially when in other writing it probably would have been nasty catfighting and the like... here we have two women who just went ‘Ah. Obviously best friends is the only solution!’       Favorite Familial: Probably the Shores.  You can see how devoted they are to each other and how deeply they respect, trust, and love each other... and they are often gentle to each other in a way they never are with anyone else, the two firey volcanoes of personality muting and banking the fires to gentle glows.
======
Lady Penelope:
      Disliked Romantic: Penny and Parker.  There are just too many times in the novels that Parker directly refers and also strongly implies that Penelope is like a daughter to him for me to really like it.  plus while their dynamic is fun, it is one of leader and subordinate and I tend not to like severe power dynamics like that.  ...plus Parker is like...  twice her age minimum and i just kinda...  I don’t mind age gaps overall, but I start going ‘ehhhhhh’ when it’s nearly 30 years or more (and yes this applies when the age gap is an older woman with someone younger.)       Disliked Platonic: Penny and Steelman.  Why is this a thing.         Disliked Familial: hrm.  There aren’t many family connections in the comics and novels, and the existing ones are actually rather wholesome and I can’t think of any fics with family relationships I dislike ---      Favorite Romantic: Penny and Scott ^^  If for no other reason than I came into the Century 21 franchise via the Theydon novels and Theydon was pretty clear in what his ships were XD.  plus, Penny and Scott’s interactions (and occasional flirting) int he novels are really fun and they bounce off each other well.  There is a DEEP respect for each other, with each one admiring the skills of the other on teh regular.  Both are calm, dry humored, cool under pressure and probably the most ruthless characters in century 21.  But mostly I just adore their interactions in the novels and thus they are solidly in my favorite romantic ship top 10.       Favorite Platonic: either Penny and Richard Lyon or Penny and TinTin.  With Lyon the two have been friends since childhood and have been spies for years - often working together and coming to each others aid.   ...especially Penny coming to Lyon’s aid.  The man is stated to be a spy almost on par with Penny, but he is ALWAYS getting into trouble... the running joke in the fandom used to be that someone cursed him off camera to explain just how BAD his luck is.  with Penny and TinTin, I really love how Penny steps in in a mentor and at times ‘older sister’ role... taking TinTin with her on a few spying missions to let tinTin see if it’s something she’d like - and the two just have this wonderful chill vibe with each other in the novels and show as well.         Favorite Familial: Penny and Parker, hands down.  Penny recruited Parker only a few years ago in canon (mid 2065) and Parker initially wasn’t certain about this whole thing...  but he VERY quickly became devoted to Penelope, first as a loyal aid... but as time went on he slotted into a father-daughter dynamic (that oddly I don’t think Penny has conciously picked up on, although she generally acts like Parker is a father or uncle figure to her in the novels and later comics).  She is without a doubt Parker’s boss and the two have a professional relationship that is seperate from this... but I adore how Parker has basically gone ‘ah, this is my daughter.  She is spooky and deadly and sometime cruel, but she is my daughter and I will face the world to protect, save, and serve her’
           TAG:
           Disliked Romantic: Penny and Gordon.  I’m not fully sure why (it’s not me being a Penny/Scott shipper, as there are other instances of me liking ships with one part of the ship being with someone else).  Gordon is absolutely infatuated with Penny, no argument there... but Penny doesn’t feel like she’s interested in Gordon to me.  None of their interactions really connected for me - and mostly on Penny’s side            Disliked Platonic: I was expecting to like it, but I ended up disliking Penny’s friendship with John (and to a degree Scott).  mostly due to EOS and the Man from TB5 as she felt kinda... dismissive?   to him... especially with how she flat out lied to him about the party in MfTB5.             Disliked Familial:  Hm.  don’t really have one for this.  By making her not a spy, MUCH more niave and uncertain of herself and the like, Parker stepped in as more of a father figure and authority figure to her, but the dynamic is still a fun one.  I’ve seen some fics where Sally ‘steps in’ as a mother figure to Penny and in thsoe fics Parker tends to just be... brushed aside and Penny undercut so that Sally can swoop in and save the day and I don’t like that, so I’ll go with that family fan relationship            ---            Favorite Romantic: Hm.  Don’t really ahve one based on canon, but i have seen a few Penny and John and Penny and Kayou fics that were pretty cool, so i guess those ships?            Favorite Platonic: Not sure on canon (I’m still in the process of watching the series, i’ve only seen it through once thus far) but there are a ton of really sweet John and Penny friendship fics, as well as Virgil and Penny so I’ll go with that for now ^^            Favorite Familial:  Still Penny and Parker.  As Penny was... well, let’s be honest, nerfed... and made younger, far less self-certain, far more niave and far softer and gentler... Parker really got to step in and become FAR more of a father figure to her than he was in any other canon.  It’s a dynamic I enjoy, even if it is basially TinTin in personality with Penny’s name XD
======
Thunderbirds
     Disliked Romantic:  There was a time when Hood/Jeff ships were rampant AND I DO NOT KNOW WHY.  Makes me nope ALLLL the way out.  (Also I’ll throw Penny/Jeff in here, but that’s just cause I never really got romantic vibes from them, even though i know they officially WERE romance intentions... but again I came intot he fandom via the novels and comics and Penny and Jeff had NO romantic interactions there, indeed they interacted less than Penny did with any of the other Tracys, plus the.. what, 30 year?  age gap falls into me ‘don’t really like it’ camp).  ...Also people kept shipping Grandma Tracy and Kyrano together even though Kyrano is nearly a DECADE younger than Jeff and...  I just don’t like huge age gaps in fics that I read ^^;;       Disliked Platonic: I can’t really think of any platonic relationships I dislike in canon or fanon?       Disliked Familial: I hate it when Jeff is made into a bad or abusive father.  He’s actually a REALLY SOLID guy, not only for the 60s but even for today.  He’s gruff and tends to go for a position of authority, but he cares DEEPLY for his boys (and TinTin, Kyrano, Brains, Parker and Penny) and while he’s stubborn as all hell (by far and away the most stubborn of the whole Tracy clan) he can and has stepped down / backed down.  I just love how MUCH and how DEEPLY he loves his family, how he extends that ‘family’ to Kyrano, TinTin and Brains; he’s got flaws but he would do anything, would give up anything, for his family and while yes he was absent for a chunk of their lives it was generally because he was off-planet, trying to make his company work, or CRAZY deep in depression after his wife died... and even then he was ABSENT but not aggressive or emotionally distant.  and gosh darn it he did his best to make up for it. ---       Favorite Romantic:  Scott and Penny all the way XD  Theydon’s novel’s especially for this, but it also seemed to happen in the comcis a few times and was (at least a long while back) a semi popular ship in the fandom.  The two have a deep mutal respect and friendship for each other, have saved each other from danger more than once, and work well together.  (TinTin and Alan ALMOST got this slot, as I do so love their relationship as well)       Favorite Platonic: I really like the friendship between Brains and Scott in the novels.  Scott is pretty much the ONLY person that Brains relazes enough around to tease and snark at -  Scott just smiles and lets it roll off his back, usually with some dry deadpan and then just doing some teasing back at him.         Favorite Familial: I can’t choooooooooose  ;;_;;  Jeff’s love for his sons, Scott’s big brother/father vibes with his brothers, Gordon and Alan’s dynamic, Scott and Virgil’s esp twin thing, Kyrano and TinTin’s sweetness, and more!!  I love all of them so, so much!!!   IF I HAD to choose I guess...   The Tracy family as a whole, even though that’s still basically cheating XD  If I HAD to go for one and one only... Grandma and Jeff in the novels.  Grandma is a calm, stabilizing and grounding force in the novels, and you’ll get instances like in Operation Asteroid when Jeff fell into dispair when it looked like Alan, Scott and Virgil had been killed in space with the Hood having Brains, Penny, and TinTin AND Thunderbird 3... and then a rescue call came in and he just was on the border of giving up and Grandma just bucks him up, tells him that he and Gordon can manage this rescue with Thunderbird 2, and once they do that, they’ll find the Hood, save who they can... and also not to count the boys out yet, she’s certain they’ll find a way (and she’s right)
           TAG:
           Disliked Romantic:  As Penny/Gordon is mentioned up above, I’ll instead list another fandom ship I’ve seen that I don’t like much, which is Sally and the Mechanic.  I don’t really... see where or how they would connect, and (as said above, big age gaps just kinda squick me out ^^;;)  I don’t really know the show anywhere near as well as I do TOS, so there might be other romances that I’m not aware of, but overall I’m neutral to ‘oh hey I like that dynamic’ on the ones I’ve seen.            Disliked Platonic: While it was mostly for a joke I didn’t like the antagonistic relationship between Parker and Gordon... I also didn’t like how Berrenger treated Alan... at all?  ...and his ‘oh Scott isn’t cool so I rave about him, but you are SO COOL that I just...  ignore you and refuse to interact with you just felt weird and hollow.  I also ended up not liking Taylor’s interactions with the Tracys’ and even ended up disliking Taylor himself a bit :/            Disliked Familial: This is going to sound odd, but I actually dislike the ‘sibling’ dynamic between Kayo and the Tracy Boys.  Mostly because in S1 it felt kinda forced and hammered in.  She’s basically an OC yet the big emotional payoff in the pilot episodes is her FINALLY GETTING HER OWN THUNDERBIRD and...  okay, but she’s an OC so the ‘finally getting this’ feels hollow and like I missed a season of development?  Her ‘as i might be about to die, I just want to say how proud I am to be your sister cause being your sister is so important and family is vital’ in the Fireflash episode ended up feeling hollow to me as well, because again... she’s an OC and it felt kinda unearned or that I’d somehow missed a season (I actually hit pause during that speech and spent like three hours trying to make sure that this wasn’t season 2 and I’d somehow missed the first season).  Every time it came up it ended up feeling like it was trying to hammer it in, or was some big emotional payoff that... hadn’t been earned becuase it was only 5 episodes in with an OC who was part of an ensemble cast            ---            Favorite Romantic: It’s a tie again ^^;;  I like Brains and Moffat’s relationship, and I also really like Ridley and John’s relationship, esp in their second episode where we got to see them relaxed and bantering, AND got to see them at odds which is always fun.  I also really adored both Moffie and Ridley as characters and wish they’d shown up much more often.            Favorite Platonic: oooo tough one.  ...I’m gonna go with EOS and John (and to a degree the other Tracy boys).  I do think they all got over her trying to murder John horribly and nearly succedng a LITTLE TO FAST, but as things settled I found i really liked the dynamics and EOS and John bounced off each other wonderfully.  I was so sad when she kinda just.. vanished... halfway through season 2.            Favorite Familial: This is going to sound odd... but Kayo and the Hood in Season 1.  It isn’t a GOOD or HEALTHY relationship but it’s a dynamic and well written one and good from a story telling standpoint.  I honestly wish it had continued to be the driving force it was in S1 into s2.  On the ‘good’ side of the coin, gonna have to go with the Tracy bois again ^^
          04 FILM:
           Disliked Romantic:  Transom’s creepy crush on Brains.  I know it’s SUPPOSED to be creepy, but I’ve had many male friends (and some female friends) who had women who act JUST as creepy to them as Transom does so I just hate seeing it, esp played for laughs           Disliked Platonic: Don’t really have one.  The friendships were some of the strong points in the film.  Mullion and Transom feel like they were supposed to have a friendship but it didn’t pan out for me, so that one I guess           Disliked Familial: Don’t have one.  Brains and Fermat’s relationship is adorable, you can tell the Tracy bros all care deeply for Alan and each other they just tease as all siblings do, Jeff and Alan are at odds but you can tell they DO care about each other and... well, I’ve seen teenage rebellion that’s pretty realistic XD.  Also while we don’t see a ton of it, TinTin and her family have a sweet relationship too.            ---           Favorite Romantic: The only time I’ve enjoyed Jeff and Penny as a couple XD  (I mean granted it’s SUPER simular to Scott and Penny in the Theydon novels so taht might be why, but I DO like their interactions as is / on their own).  Alan and TinTin are also quite adorable.  Young teens just figuring out that they like each other           Favorite Platonic: Fermat and Alan.  I ADORE this relationship.  Fermat’s cahracter arc (and Alan’s character arc ABOUT FERMAT) is well written and honestly I have the feeling that originally Brains WAS Fermat but then they decided to bring in adult Brains too.  Honstly I like the friendship enough that I’ve brought elements of it in to my own fanfics over the years.          Favorite Familial: John and Jeff.  SOLID writing there and it was so nice to have John play a KEY ROLE for the first time.
======
Captain Scarlet:
      Disliked Romantic: ah.. ...well, how about.. ...or...   ...hrm.  Any ‘romantic with the Mysterons’ ship (seriously, there are WEIRD FICS AND FANARTS out there).  i like most canon and fanon ships otherwise       Disliked Platonic: ....how did Scarlet end up being the hardest one...  fics that have the President becoming friends with people, but that’s just I think the guy is an idiot and don’t like him much so I just don’t like seeing him in fics XD       Disliked Familial: There was a weird trend a long while back of having Green be a bad person or bad brother becuase instead of letting his family be broken apart into Foster homes he instead fought and worked and kept them together raising them himself... I think because the family struggled and had some hard times during it before the other eldest siblings started getting old enough to get jobs.  Don’t really get it myself, as I personally ADORE Green’s connection to his family and how he basically raised them and the like ---       Favorite Romantic: Probably Blue and Symphony, which is also the most canonically supported one (to the point where it’s REALLY blatant and in your face even as early as episode 4 (Manhunt).  Scarlet and Rhapsody are a close second though       Favorite Platonic: Adam and Paul all the way.  Those two became BFFs in under three episodes and their friendship is one of my all time favorites in most any fiction ^^       Favorite Familial: ooooo tough one... mostly because we simply don’t have many FAMILY relationships in CS.  Tons of friendships, but not much family (even found family).  ...I guess I’ll go with Destiny and her sister Monique from the comics as it was a good story... annnnd also the only ‘family’ related story we got in the show / comics really (Green’s was in his bio rather than shown)
           nCS:
           Disliked Romantic: Scarlet and Destiny.  Mostly becuase (like a BIG chunk of the fanbase) i reaaaaaaaally did not like nCS Destiny, and the relationship between the duo felt hollow more often than not.            Disliked Platonic: actually a tough one, as I don’t think I really disliked any of the friendships in nCS  ....I found Destiny and Blue’s interactions grating on occasion, but that might just be how I found Destiny to range between dull and annoying ^^;;            Disliked Familial: I didn’t really like the interactions between Blue and his family (at least in the bios and the like), but even that is a more neutral than even a dislike.            ---
           Favorite Romantic: I liked Blue and Green’s relationship, esp how it built slowly as the series went on.  I also did like how Black spoke about Destiny before he became a Mysteron agent (the soft, awe filled ‘I wish Destiny could ahve seen this’ is a lovely moment and rather like his rescue of Paul at teh start helped define who he was BEFORE he got replicated) and I actually liked the dynamics between Destiny and Black AFTER he got Mysteronized (some of the rare occasions when nCS Destiny didn’t annoy me XD )            Favorite Platonic: Probably Blue and Scarlet.  While nCS Blue was a VERY different person, the friendship between the two was still a really fun one and definitly a highlight of the show.  (I also like the friendship we got glimpses of between Black and Scarlet)
           Favorite Familial: Green and her Dad ;;_;;   After that, I’d say White and his relationship with his daughter as that was very well done too.

A'ight my tripleace gurl!! I know you've been having a crap week (well, years, good lord gurl, who'd you piss off?) And I know you love discussing. SO! Since we've chatted about your fics an' mine on discord... for here and for a special gift... OCs, Pet Peeves, Overrated... and for Free Space add Captain Scarlet to the mix!!
...Mbali, you are both the absolute BEST and the absolute WORST XD
Tumblr media
Does Tumblr have a word limit on posts? Cause if so I might just hit it XD
OCs:
My take is the same as yours, Mbali, as you well know XD *side eyes you* You trying to get me in trouble? You know our stance on OCs is hardly popular.
My general rules with OCs is that they can only be secondary or support characters, they can't be the 'best' in a skillset that pre-existing characters have, and if their past ties into main character pasts, they must remain in a secondary / support role in the past as well. An OC can be 'the best' at a certain skill or the like if (and only if) there are no canon characters with the skill set or job.
I also dislike self-inserts. While I'll pull on real-life experiences or the like of myself or people I know, I have no OCs that are 'me', and indeed most of them are VERY different from me. Even when I put in experiences or stances I have, it's from a... well, it's removed from me. It isn't me putting myself into a character, it's me going 'alright, this event / opinion makes sense for this character so I'll use it, but 99% of the time the event/opinion influences the character VERY differently then it did me.
I know that this is hardly a popular take, but it's my stance on it. I would never try to force others to adhere to it, nor would I insult or degrade someone's work for having an OC that is a self-insert or the center of focus. I tend to not ENJOY such works as a general rule, but everyone is free to create what makes THEM happy XD
Now that said I often have fun TALKING about OCs I've come up with over the decades. Heck, Mbali and I came up with one that's been around since the *80s* who's quite fun (Shaka Dlamini)
Related to this is 'Semi-OCs'... that is characters that are TECHNICALLY canon. Maybe they got little to no focus in the canon series, maybe they're from a reboot and you're working them into a fic set in the og series (got QUITE a few of those, XD) , etc. With these characters, I tend to give a bit more leeway (esp the 'pulled from another series' ones), while I still avoid them being the 'best' at something (unless the character WAS the best at said matter), they can 'ascend' to main character status.
================================
Pet Peeves:
In general: taking a version of a character from one version and treating them like the ‘default’.  In Captain Scarlet, I see a LOT of people taking either the og version of Captain Blue (calm, determined, loyal to the point it can be a fault) and transplanting that version into a nCS fic...  or taking the nBlue (gung-ho rambo who leaps before he looks) and using it in a ogCS fic.
Also see a lot of it with Thunderbirds, esp the much more firey TAG versions being treated as IC for the og boys...  actually something I see a LOT of is ‘the Tracy Temper’ in fics and I’m just...  no, the TAG boys are firey and short tempered and tend to wear their emotions on their cuffs (which is fine, I LIKE these versions of the characters)
but the OG Tracys were overall calm, steady, and with a trend towards the stoic.  Very slow to anger and Gordon and Scott esp trended towards ICE rather than fire when angry.  ...and I like these versions just as much as I do the TAG XD
----
I dislike characters being undercut or being dumb (or suddenly not being good at something, or another character suddenly getting someone else’s expertise)  I dislike it in fanfics, but I LOATHE it in canon works
----
I dislike people going ‘oh I like this version better, THEREFORE the other versions are BAD’  (with an annoying common trend of ‘I will treat my assumptions as facts and will even MAKE THINGS UP to be mad about so people know that THAT VERSION IS BAD)
----
Both the 04 film and TAG
Pet Peeve bordering on hatred of how YOUNG Alan is.  In my old re-write fanfic of the 04 film, the FIRST THING I did was change Alan from 14 to 16.  I honestly thought that Alan was 16 in s1 of TAG (given that he turns 18 and is graduating in s3) and I reaaaalllly hate that he apparently was 14 and apparently has been doing rescues for at least a year.   ...Hi, yeah, CHILD LABOR AND SAFETY LAWS WOULD LIKE A FEW DAMN SERIOUS WORDS WITH YOU.   (and yes this is my reaction to this in ANY fiction and has ben my whole life, even when I was SIX I would refuse to read or watch something if the protag was too young.  My only exceptions are when the kid has no option and/or there are adults present and aiding/protecting them as much as possible)
----
TAG
I don’t like HOW MANY rescues iR goes on.  They’re a SMALL UNIT, they can NOT maintain this witout burnout and DEATH being a serious risk VERY quickly.  the og series having it where IR only got involved in rescues that no one else could do made perfect sense and allowed for a very small operation without driving everyone into an early grave.
There are also times where the ‘kids show’ is much more in your face for me than it was with the og.  Also several ‘look kids just like the toys’ with the Birds too.
...This one borders on hatred, but there are a few episodes where THE MESSAGE results in flat out FACTUALLY WRONG INFO being spouted tot he point that it comes across as ‘SCARE THE KIDDIES STRAIGHT... by flat out lying to them’  (the nuclear power episodes are high on this list.  the STUPIDITY of ‘I’ll turn this oil rig into a solar power station’ ....No you won’t.  That will not work in teh SLIGHTEST for SO MANY REASONS... also, you do know we use oil for a HELL OF A LOT more than GAS right?  Not needing gas anymore just means we won’t need to mine AS MUCH oil...  Plastics, rubbers, HEALTH ITEMS, and so much more come from oil and we don’t really have another way to make these.  ...Also you can’t make a gravity well with a  Hadron Collider and on top of it THAT ISN”T HOW A GRAVITY WELL WOULD WORK.   ..you’ve got what is basically a SUPER super magnet, just have it where it’s dragging metal items down.   ...also 9gs is an ACCELERATION not a SPEED)
----
Captain Scarlet 68
There were times where the fact that CS was a solo lead show grated on me.  All the other Anderson series are ensemble shows, and we would get a decent amount of focus or time on other characters for the most part.  ...and CS had a AMAZING crew that we just never really got to spend as much time as I’d like with
Captain Black being treated like he WILLINGLY joined the Mysterons rather than being their first victim, something nCS was guilty of too.  (related to this, I really wish we could have gotten moments of Black FIGHTING back.  Make the scene with him and Symphony in Manhunt be a moment of Black FIGHTING FREE for a moment, stopping the radiation and telling her to RUN before the Mysterons regain control...  the reason Symphony kept driving after getting past the gate was her knowing if she didn’t do what the Mysterons ordered, Black would be KILLED and she’d just seen that BLACK WAS STILL IN THERE.  Give him a few other scenes where he hesitates, or fights back, or is even able to spare someone.
================================
Overrated:
Thunderbirds 1965:
Alan, honestly. I never DISLIKED the character, but I found him dull and liked him the least out of the main characters, so the fact that both films were basically Alan centric, and Season 2 was mostly Alan centric and... well, by the end of it I tended to get both quite TIRED and quite ANNOYED at the character.
Fanfics that are Alan centric have an annoying habit of undercutting (or even belittling) the other lead characters, which annoys me to no end (now mind I dislike it when this happens with ANY character... heck that was my longstanding gripe... 80% in jest granted XD ... with Boomercat back in the day)
At least I've always got the comics and novels, where Alan didn't really get as much spotlight (and the others did. btw, if you like Gordon, you might want to check out the comics, as Gordon got quite a few comics that where he really got to shine)
Thunderbirds 2004:
Oddly, not Alan again (despite it being a THIRD MOVIE to be Alan centric). I could see what they were TRYING to do with him, even if the execution was lacking. No in this case, I found JEFF to be overrated. I didn't like this much younger, much more aggressive, version of Jeff and found him overrated / dull / annoying for the most part.
Thunderbirds are Go!:
Gonna go with Sally here, with a side order of 'one or two off characters treated as a HUGE DEAL that were kinda meh or even annoying at times?'
I just... do not like Sally. At all. At absolute best I found her boring. Most of the time I found her annoying and grating. ...and there were times I flat out just ACTIVELY DISLIKED her. Doesn't help that I flat out hate both of the Sally-centric episodes. I've run into a few fics where I.... kinda, almost, like her? But even in those fics I still find her overrated and tend to just skip over her scenes.
Captain Scarlet 1968:
Hmmm... tough one. Gonna go with Green here, with a note that I ACTIVELY LIKE THE CHARACTER. I just found him a bit... hm. ...Not boring, not overused... kinda misused? We never really get to see him interact with anyone outside of White, and he's got a few times where he tries to get sent on field missions, despite NOT being a field agent. I don't think he's ACTUALLY overrated, but he's the closest to overrated that I've got
new Captain Scarlet:
Destiny. She was hyped up to Mars and back and given a LOT of plot and character focus and boy did she end up feeling overrated. (and that's one thing I'm not alone in. nDestiny did NOT hit it off well with the old fanbase or new fanbase. There's a reason she was all but written out of Season 2)

A'ight my tripleace... Work in Progress Wednesday, something that made you laugh aloud!!
Heyo, Mbali! ^_^
Hmmmm...
Well, this was written a while back, but it IS in my current WIP, and it makes me smile and oft laugh so I guess it counts
(wish I could do html or proper rich text with tumblr posts, part of this doesn't look quite right without it)
In quick explanation: I bumped Colonel White up to Admiral White so that he wasn't outranked by... basically everyone from all proceeding shows, not to mention most of the military personnel Spectrum interacts with on the regular. No way an OF-5 is commander of Spectrum... and in no way are the Spectrum Captains as low as OF-2.
Also in quick explanation: The fic takes place in November of 2067, before the ill-fated Mars mission, so Captain Black is still alive and has not yet become the Mysterons first victim. (Also also, I've had the ship of Juliette and Conrad since the 80s so they're a couple in my ficverse ^^;; )
=======
AS THE WYRM TURNS
“The Primary asset is Admiral Thunderchild, who-”
Admiral White broke off sharply when Captain Grey’s shoulders jerked as if he’d been struck, Grey’s attention snapping from the Admiral to Captain Black…  who was resolutely looking ANYWHERE but at Captain Grey.
“Capta-?” Admiral White started to ask, only to have Grey talk over him, Grey’s eyes bright, an expression Destiny couldn’t place on his face.
“YOU were supposed to be taking up that role,” Grey said, pointing at Black, who’s shoulders went tight even as he continued to refuse to meet Grey’s gaze.  “And YOU would have come up with the name, so you could react realistically to it instead of risking something you had no response to that someone else came up with.”
“Captain, I will thank you not to-” Admiral White froze, eyebrows racing up and jaw dropping as Captain Grey…  broke out into laughter.  Not a chuckle or light laugh either, but a deep hearty laugh, the usually stoic man all but falling out of his chair as he doubled over laughing.
Everyone was staring at Grey now, even Lieutenant Sage turned from her station to stare at the sight.  Admiral White didn’t look angry, or even annoyed anymore, despite how thunderous his temper tended to be when briefings were interrupted, instead the commander looked almost bemused, looking between the laughing Captain Grey and the Oh So Embarrassed Captain Black.
Captain Scarlet suddenly jolted, and he stared at Captain Black, before starting to laugh at well, and Destiny couldn’t help the giggle that escaped her, quickly covering her mouth to muffle it as she realized three things all at once.
The first was WHY Conrad had always insisted on not telling Iain the name he had come up with for ‘The Admiral’.
The second was a spark of joy that Paul had become good enough friends with Conrad to have realized not only who Conrad’s favorite author was, what his favorite book was…  but to have put that together enough to have realized precisely what ‘Thunderchild’ was in reference to.  She loved Conrad, but he was an extremely withdrawn and reclusive person, and she could count the number of people that were friends with her fiancé on her hands and still have fingers left over, those that he considered the best of friends, people he would be willing to talk about things as private to him as his favorite book, she could count on one hand.
The third was that Conrad, her usually ever-so-controlled fiancé, was BLUSHING.
“Someone want to let the rest of us in on the joke?” Captain Turquoise asked, although she didn’t sound or look annoyed in the slightest.
“Come on, Thunder ChiiIiiiIiild!” Captain Scarlet sang, as horribly off-key as ever (setting Grey off into further gales of laughter).  Destiny bit her lips, glancing at Captain Black, wondering if he now regretted the fact that Paul had bought a real antique record player and Jeff Wayne Musical record for Conrad’s 38th birthday back in March and Paul himself had apparently greatly enjoyed the songs, to the point of ‘stealing’ the record more than once.
Granted that just seemed to confuse most everyone else all the more, although Admiral White’s expression cleared and he started to chuckle as well, and Captain Grey flopped his head onto his arms where they rested on the table – the only thing keeping him in his seat – as he continued to laugh.
Destiny decided to take pity on the others.  “Captain Black’s favorite book is War of the Worlds.”
“In which, the battleship H.M.S. Thunder Child takes on multiple fighting-machines to save the fleeing civilian ships, destroying three of the alien craft.  The Thunder Child was the first, and only, victory humanity had in that book,” Admiral White said, looking at Captain Black.  “I can see why such would appeal to you, especially given your heroic actions in both the British Civil War and the Global War.”
Captain Black’s shoulders relaxed ever so slightly and he finally met Captain Grey’s gaze.  “And this is why I never told you the name,” he muttered as Grey finally managed to get his laughter under control.  Captain Scarlet hummed a mangled version of the opening music to the Thunder Child song (she loved Paul, but the man couldn’t carry a tune to save his life), but then sat up straight and turned his attention back to Admiral White, schooling his expression back to one of calmness.
