i sincerely don’t know if i could pull it off in the text or if it would affect the publishability/marketability but i do want all my friends who will someday read cursedwip to know that it 100% takes place in the most stereotypical grimy early 2000s city with an improbable population made up exclusively of goth-looking pedestrians and flouncy little rich boys and copy-and-paste cops with mustaches.

The rumor is that every time you re-install “Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines“ you end up with a new vampire OC... well, I can’t deny that, that’s for sure. 🦇

In Bloodlines 1 you were a new vampire in a city with a large Anarch presence where the Camarilla don’t have complete dominance. For Bloodlines 2 we have flipped this on its head. You play Phyre, an Elder vampire (~400 years old) in a city where Camarilla has been dominant for decades, and any hint of Anarch sympathy is squashed.
Phyre's number 1 loyalty is to herself, but she is wise enough to respect the power of the Camarilla and, more importantly, the Masquerade. Within the story Phyre earns a seat at the top-table of the Camarilla as the court's Sheriff, giving her the court's protection but also a powerful authority within Seattle's vampire society.
This is an RPG, of course, so you can roleplay Sheriff in multiple ways, maybe you are a loyal Sheriff of the Camarilla, or an Anarch sympathiser working from within to undermine the court, or maybe you're a self-centred Elder vampire playing the different factions off each other to your advantage.

Damsel VTMB
Tumblr media
Damsel has a Ryu Number of 4. Probably.
(clarification below)
I am going to fucking distort.
It is, by all accounts, established fact that there is a skin of a Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines character unlockable in the PC version of True Crime: Streets of LA. I say this because we have 1. a 2004 GameSpot article reporting as such,
Tumblr media
and 2. the PC manual includes special thanks to Troika and White Wolf, the developer and IP holder for Bloodlines.
Tumblr media
Now, going by every cheat site under the sun, the character in question is Jeanette, which would make a lot of sense, seeing as she is effectively the cover girl for Bloodlines and maybe its most well-known character?
As far as I can tell, there is no screenshot of Jeanette or any Bloodlines character skin in True Crimes anywhere on the Internet. Okay, fine, I'll nab the game and get a picture myself. Wouldn't be the first time.
Depending on the site, you either unlock the skin (usable in the game's multiplayer mode, by the by) by simply inputting a license plate number at save creation, or killing every zombie in a certain stage, then inputting a license plate number at save creation.
I am here to report to you, unambiguously, that the first is a giant fucking lie. You can't just punch in "VAKLAM". So that leaves the second method, and I'm here to report to you that I've tried like five or six times, am 60% sure that I pulled it off at least once, and have had absolutely no success in getting it to pop. I did grab a 100% save file from the net to avoid having to play enough True Crimes to naturally get to that point, which may have compromised some checks, but the point is, I cannot feasibly unlock what I am assuming is a Jeanette skin myself.
Which means barring someone going through the effort themselves of either 1. playing the game normally, successfully performing the second unlock method, and uploading a screenshot or 2. extracting the model and/or textures from the game files, I basically have to take it on faith that Jeanette is in the game, somewhere, and I just can't grab visual proof of it.
It's not the first time something like this has happened. This does not make this incredibly low-stakes predicament any less personally frustrating.
The only silver lining I can offer from all of this is an "Extra Special Thanks" I saw in the PC manual.
Tumblr media
So that's cool, I guess.

Round 1, Match 8
Ianthe and Coronabeth Tridentarius (The Locked Tomb) vs Therese and Jeanette Voerman (Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Tridentarii art by @may12324)
Propaganda under break
Ianthe and Coronabeth Tridentarius
No propaganda submitted
Poll Runner's Note: They are incredibly messed up. They've never spent any time apart until the end of book 1, when they're in their 20s. Deeply codependent. In the first draft they were called apparently called "Cainabeth and Abella", which the author rejected because that would imply one was the good twin, instead of just a less bad twin.
Therese and Jeanette Voerman
The Vampire Baron of Santa Monica and her twin sister. Together they run a nightclub, The Asylum. Therese sees Jeanette as a depraved and immature brat who can't take care of herself. Jeanette wants her sister to respect her as an equal, but goes after it by foiling all her plans. They use the player character as a pawn in their schemes against each other.
"Your city? Last time I looked it was called Santa Monica, not Stuck Up Bitch."
"So vulgar. I can't even look at you sometimes, you jezebel."

Hi, hello, I feel so normal about the "Bloodlines 2" trailer that happened a couple of hours ago, but to which I literally just woke up to!
youtube
For one, I am glad to see the project still kicking against all odds. Do I believe it will come out at the end of next year as promised though? I am hopeful, but after the development hell it was in, I am not trusting that just yet.
I am going to be as transparent about my thoughts as I can possibly be when I say this - I am sure that every single person who was part of making this thing a reality, from years ago until now, poured their heartblood into it. I am genuinely so thankful for them and send my love and appreciation out to all of them.
But I know in my heart of hearts that it will be just as clunky and wonky as Bloodlines 1. And that's GOOD! Yes, I could be the kinda guy who only wants a perfect game - but I am Bloodlines fan. I thrive between janky combat, bad pathing and broken puzzles. Genuinely, I am just glad that despite all odds this thing, that so many people wanted to make on the gamedev side of things for decades, is finally happening.
And I can not wait to come up with my personal fella to walk through Seattle's streets in those long-awaited nights. 🦇
