Before departing for Cuba, our delegation began learning about Cuba’s revolutionary new Families Code. But it was incredible to be among these activists — to hear about their work, life experiences, and analysis of the ongoing revolutionary process in Cuba. These activists vividly conveyed how far Cuba has come, rising from a legacy of colonialism and patriarchal values, even while impeded by Washington’s criminal blockade.

Kundgebung für Kuba

187 : 2 gegen das Unrecht

Am 1. und 2. November fand in New York die Generalversammlung der Vereinten Nationen mit Debatte und Abstimmung über die Resolution "Notwendigkeit der Beendigung der von den Vereinigten Staaten von Amerika gegen Kuba verhängten Wirtschafts-, Handels- und Finanzblockade" statt. 187 Staaten stimmten für Kuba, bei nur zwei Gegenstimmen und einer Enthaltung.

Die beiden Gegenstimmen kamen von den USA und Israel, die Enthaltung aus der Ukraine. Neben dem Verursacher der 60-jährigen Verletzung internationalen Rechts waren die beiden anderen Länder, diejenigen die zu 100% vom Geldsegen aus Washington abhängig sind.

Kundgebung vor dem Brandenburger Tor

Am letzten Samstag feierten Menschen aus Südamerika und Berlin gemeinsam die Abstimmung vom letzten Donnerstag. Auch wenn die Mehrheit für ein Ende der Sanktionen von Jahr zu Jahr wächst, ändert sich leider nicht am völkerrechtswidrigen Verhalten der USA. Gerade das Land, welches die "Freiheit des Handels" stets im Munde führt, sanktioniert seit 60 Jahren ein Land, weil ihm dessen poltisches System missfällt. Für das Land ist über die Jahre durch die Sanktionen ein wirtschaftlicher Schaden von Hunderten Milliarden Dollar entstanden.

Auch Aktive von Aktion Freiheit statt Angst e.V. nahmen an der Kundgebung teil.

Internationales Tribunal gegen die Blockade von Kuba

Am 16. und 17. November 2023 wird in Brüssel ein internationales Tribunal gegen die Blockade Kubas stattfinden, das die Tradition der Volkstribunale gegen Kriege, Interventionen und grobe Menschenrechtsverletzungen durch die USA und andere Mächte fortsetzt. https://www.fgbrdkuba.de/infos/internationales-tribunal-gegen-die-blockade-2023.php

We need solidarity, we also need you to use whatever privileges you have to give space and platform to the erased and the oppressed. As Fidel Castro famously said we have to “¡sembrar ideas! ¡sembrar ideas! ¡sembrar ideas! ¡sembrar conciencia! ¡sembrar conciencia! ¡sembrar conciencia!” while faced with aggression from the enemy or any adversity. This is the only way. The art world is still a blighted star where womxn, but most specifically BIWOC, still are more prevalent on canvas, film, in stone etc (the subjects as @guerrillagirls said it best) than the creators in museums and galleries. We must use our solidarity to combat that too. (As i side note was so happy to read of @tschabalalaself auction record this morning, we need more of this. Share more narratives. Art is powerful and can do this. The New York City Council unanimously approved a resolution on June 22 calling for an end to the cruel U.S. economic blockade of Cuba. The next day a news conference was held in front of City Hall to celebrate this victory. “This blockade must stop,” declared Council member Charles Barron, who was the resolution’s prime sponsor.
