Calm Down Vol. IV 

Vol. IV here, and possibly the last one in the series. The last one for a while at least. This is the very calmest of the calm volumes. Suitable for all aforementioned activities, this one is also actually recommended for falling asleep to.

I've been saving these tracks for this volume specifically. Nothing too trebly or doomy, or remotely soundtrack-y over-dramatic. The first few tracks are the "busiest" here, with their slow-motion, intermittent flourishes and rhythms. From there on, the barely-there rhythms disappear and things get drone-y and dreamy. In a recent post on the new Pontiac Streator release, I sung the praises of all their work and then forgot to even mention this release, which was dropped a month after Select Works. Teaming up with Exael, the pair combine to form Micro Incubus and release their debut on the great Lillerne Tapes out of Chicago. The two take it slow and steady out of the gate almost as if they are feeling each other out at first. Quickly though, they find their groove on this engrossing, loose set of experimental ambient. On “Confess Binch” the pair experiment with live drums and guitars and hopefully that is a sign of more to come in that regard. It’s a curveball but one that works really well. Across these six songs Micro Incubus cover a lot of ground and they do so comfortably and composed. This is the sound of two artists on their game and in sync with one another.
