Having worked on the soundtrack with a full symphony orchestra, I can’t wait to hear what the French duo have come up with.Ģ3. Judging by the song titles though it looks like we’re going to be getting a mixture of more traditional Daft Punk songs, like Outlands and Derezzed which have been leaked so far, but also more classical inspired pieces, with tracks like Adagio for Tron, and Nocturne referencing classical forms. sometimes some of us are bright enough to recognize a huge turd without having to step in it first.Titled Outlands, the tracks, as you can see below, is the 9th out of 22 songs set to be on the soundtrack, which so far looks set to be pretty fucking rad.

star trek 2009 and terminator both sucked ass for removing thier original music (i would have been happy even with original classic tv show music than the terrible star trek 2009 score).i knew it would suck and was correct, im predicting it for tron 2. after seeing them remove the cool disc throwing and derezing, im borederline on skipping reboots in general. where would indy or jaws or psycho be without thier great soundtracks? im also betting the original cast is in less than 15 minutes of the reboot disguised as a sequel. sequel and reboot making is pretty much a no brainer. I am tired of shit reboot after shit reboot and shit sequel with 20 year old cokeheads aparently not bright enough to recognize music and costume continuity. At least lucas has enough brains not to drop. terminator, bond and and star trek all SUCK after removing original scores. music is 89% of a movie, dropping carlos's original score is one of the things that made tron 1 great. How many 20 year olds does it take to completely screw up a franchise? franchises do poorly when they drop original music scores that made them what they were. It's so easy to ruin a masterpiece by thoughtlessly rehashing it. Now they're going further and messing with its DNA. This musical choice is the first sign that the film project could be going horribly wrong.ĭisney, in characteristic form, used Buena Vista as a cover until they were sure "TRON" wouldn't embarrass them. (Many of the original film's references hark back further, to the mainframe era.) I'm not interested in seeing TRON advance to 128-bit multiprocessors. I suppose it's logical to try to "update" both the sound and look of the world inside the computer to address advances in the computer industry since 1982– but for me "TRON" is about the nostalgic beginnings of 8-bit home computing. Now, to celebrate the ten-year anniversary of both the film and the soundtrack, the duo has shared a. Its vision never pandered to popular audiences. The project delivered 22 tracks for fans to enjoy alongside the Joseph Kosinski-directed film. "TRON" reached iconic status because it was both artistic and entertaining. Also here is the most complete Tron Legacy Soundtrack Ive found. Would thoroughly recommend (1) OVERWERK - Create (2) Daft Punk - TRON Legacy Soundtrack Complete Edition HD 3 - You might find this similar. Wendy Carlos, on the other hand, was an inspired choice given her status as a pioneer and a highly original composer. The soundtrack to Oblivion also had Joe Trapanese as a collaborator, this time with M83 instead of Daft Punk. (Would it seem better if the "2" wasn't pretending to be an "O"?) Not to dis any artists, but there's no more justification for using them than say Tangerine Dream or… Journey. With the Daft Punk news, I'm now pessimistic about the "TR2N" project. What do you think about Daft Punk doing the score for Tron 2? Do you think that they are up to the task? Should they have gone back to Wendy Carlos to score the sequel? The original Tron featured an original electronic score by synth pioneer Wendy Carlos. “We’re always trying to do something that hasn’t been done, or ultimately, that we aren’t doing ourselves yet,” notes Banglater. The musicians, Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter split their time between Paris and Los Angeles, where they have have assembled a new recording studio for the TR2N project. The “TR2N” score marks Daft Punk’s first foray into the studio since 2005’s “Human After All.” The film, currently in production, is tentatively scheduled for a 2011 release.
Tron legacy soundtrack club song update#
Billboard reports that Daft Punk has been signed to score the soundtrack for Tron 2 (TR2N):ĭaft Punk, the French electronica duo known for their robot personas, have been tapped by Walt Disney Pictures to compose the score for “TR2N”, an update of the studio’s 1982 science fiction classic “Tron”, Billboard has confirmed.

hello :]
i think someone's asked you your favourite daft punk album before, but if you had to rank all of them how would you do it?
have a nice day!
*in columbo voice* Jeez, I dunno.....
Here is my list (from least favourite to favourite) of the Baft Dunks
Tumblr media
Tron Legacy (2010): This is the one Daft Punk album I really don't have much to say about it. I haven't seen the movie itself, and I haven't really listened to this soundtrack either. Derezzed and Son of Flynn are pretty good though.
Tumblr media
Alive 1997 (1997): Contrary to what many believe, Alive '97 isn't that boring. It's a pretty good sampling of what Daft Punk concerts were like pre-robot and as a result it's very raw and primitive. In a good way, of course (it was recorded at the Que Club in Birmingham, one of the great bastions of the UK rave scene so of course it'll sound raw). 10 Minutes of Funk and the Daftendirekt remix are a highlight for me.
Tumblr media
Homework (1997): Move the gun away from your screen, let me talk for a bit. I really like Homework, and I think a lot of the songs on it are perfect French Touch tracks (Around The World, Fresh, Indo Silver Club, the list goes on). But when I look at that album length I think I die a little. Other than that, an absolutely smashing record.
Tumblr media
Human After All (2005): This is the first album on this list that I really love. Maybe it's because I really like repetitiveness, but this album almost acts as a brain massage. Maybe it's because of the robot humming in the title track, or the Madness Mantra style lyrics in Technologic or the calm instrumentations of Make Love, but it calms my nerves down, in a weird way. Give this album a second chance.
Tumblr media
Random Access Memories (2013): This was the first Daft Punk I ever properly listened to, and I've got a very distinct memory of it, being in the back of the car on the way to an Elton John concert. The concert itself was alright, but nothing could compare to when I heard Giorgio by Moroder and Touch for the first time. Although we didn't know it then, I think this album serves as a perfect finale. It's an homage to the robot's heroes (prominent features from Nile Rodgers and Paul Williams), and to the ones they inspired (my boys Julian Casablancas and Pharrell are on two of the biggest songs off this album). Makes me tear up a bit every time.
Tumblr media
Alive 2007 (2007): Ooh yeah baybee. Da reeeal shit. Literally every single song off this album fits like a fucking jigsaw puzzle. It was so good it made critics reconsider HAA. Television / Crescendolls. Prime Time / Brainwasher / Rollin' / Alive. Human After All / Superheroes / Rock'n'Roll. The list goes ON. There isn't a single moment off this record that I don't remember, especially the crowd, who sing Da Funk somehow. Best live show and best live album.
Tumblr media
Discovery (2001): Not a single dull moment off this record. The instrumentation. The virtuoso-level sampling. The visuals. My absolute favourite album from Daft Punk, and my favourite album period.
Conclusion: I really like the funky robot boys.

Top 15 Music Artists!
I won’t be doing a separate song one, instead I’ll just recommend a few for each artist (at most 3). Other than that, there aren’t any rules to this, no order, it’s all just opinion. I will however say that I don’t like “one genre or another” I either like a song or I don’t and I’m not as big of a stan for individual artists, just what song they created so I always hate when people ask me. Not to mention most music I listen to is from either a game, anime, or movie. I’ll try to make most of these the clean versions.
Daft Punk: This is an easy one. They created the Tron Legacy soundtrack (Tron seems to always make its way onto most of my top 15 lists), they are my number 1 that I would go see in concert (that’s still around) if only they’d have another tour. So many other artists have sampled their work and people have mixed their tracks with other artists on YouTube and they just add to the excellent sound.
Some notable jams: Robot Rock, Instant Crush, Something About Us
Tumblr media
David Bowie: This a bit of a comfortable one, in a way it reminds me of my stepdad but his music ranges from stuff about space to just every day stuff that massages your needs, another one that can have remixes done and just add to the magic. I’ve heard some of his songs before he died like Moonage Daydream in Guardians of the Galaxy but it was only after his death that I really started liking his music. I used to think he was an actor first and a musician second but I stand corrected.
Some notable jams: Oh! You Pretty Things, Moonage Daydream, Space Oddity
Tumblr media
The Weeknd: This boy can drop a track and the words don’t even have to matter because the lyrics can be twisted but the vocals and the beat say otherwise and I know somewhere, somehow, you’ve heard his music even if you haven’t realized it. Oh and Starboy? Yeah that features Daft Punk. Oh and that song? Got its own Marvel comic! (before it was cancelled after the first issue due to name and story issues)
Some notable jams: Starboy, Secrets, Reminder
Tumblr media
Kendrick Lamar: I don’t consider myself into rap much but I genuinely think that Kendrick is probably one of the best rappers. Who else do you know that talks about Grey Poupon mustard and makes it sound good? His voice is recognizable and calm but almost raspy but then he can turn it and make it fast and angry, either would make just about any song sound good. I wish they had him cover ‘Can you feel the love tonight’ for the Lion King, because I could just imagine how good it’d sound especially with Beyonce.
Some notable jams: Humble, Poetic Justice, Swimming Pools
Tumblr media
Electric Light Orchestra: My introduction was Don’t Bring Me Down but what really brought me into their music was trying to come up with something classic for a soundtrack for one of my stories and well this stood out the most.
Some notable jams: Don’t Bring Me Down, Turn to Stone, Strange Magic
Tumblr media
The Black Eyed Peas: I grew up in this age. This was the kick-off to getting myself into music. It was my first CD, it was my first song on my new iPod nano, it was the first time I even showed an interest (which was late in the game).
Some notable jams: Imma Be, Just Can’t Get Enough, Back to Hip-Hop
Tumblr media
Aerosmith: Another early one for me because this is what I was exposed to as a kid and everything since then has made an impression on me. Steven Tyler had the most plays on that iPod nano. I would normally suggest Dream On but I picked You See Me Crying first because it came to mind first to display the range of music they have, it’s a very sad song but also a bit of a calmer one that I don’t think gets nearly as much attention as it should.
Some notable jams: You See Me Crying, Cryin, Walk This Way (Ultimate version)
Tumblr media
Kanye: He made a music video based on Akira. Did I mention that it popularized the shutter shades again? Oh, and the song? Yeah it samples Daft Punk. That’s not even the only time he did that either, he sampled a track from Tron with Kid Cudi (but it was just a demo). He does a lot of sampling but somehow he builds on the original songs and tracks and makes them better.
Some notable jams: Stronger, Roses, Through the Wire
Tumblr media
MJ: I can’t find a better deconstruction of a song than Billie Jean. It’s practically a masterpiece. Take the track out and the vocals still sound good. Take the vocals out and the track still sounds good. You can do whatever the heck you want to this song and it will still sound good, I even listen to the Animal Crossing remix sometimes. The closest I could find to that was Billie Joel’s ‘For the Longest Time’ because it’s acapella.
Some notable jams: Billie Jean, Bad, Thriller (vocals only, it’s creepier)
Tumblr media
Twenty One Pilots: Trench. Need I say more? I like nearly every song in that album and that’s rare. I see plenty of stans for this band but that’s not what made me care, because a lot of their old songs are ear worms and have been overused and I think even they realize that such as ‘Ride’ and ‘Stressed Out’ (more like Worn Out). But then somehow something good came out of the Suicide Squad movie, a special song, Heathens! By the title, it sounds odd but upon closer inspection, it’s juicy. On top of that, Trench comes out and basically clarifies that a lot of their music videos connect and involve theories with their own universe and whole ARGs devoted to it.
Some notable jams: Heathens, Legend, Chlorine
Tumblr media
Genesis: If I could give this band a number, it would be 17 because that’s the age that Genesis seemed to define. I liked a lot of their songs but I began using the songs as references to my love life at the time because I was going through a lot. I like Phil Collins on his own too but Genesis simply has more tracks that I love, I even bought and read Phil’s autobiography because as you probably already know, he did the music for both Tarzan and Brother Bear.
Some notable jams: Invisible Touch, In Too Deep, Tonight Tonight Tonight
Tumblr media
John Mayer: I almost put Drake Bell here instead but John Mayer is the kind of music you listen to when your heart aches and I for one like it.
Some notable jams: Heartbreak Warfare, Moving On and Getting Over, Gravity
Tumblr media
Smash Mouth: These later ones are getting a bit weird, huh? But yeah, the famous ‘All Star’ creators make some decent music, I won’t even reference any more from Shrek.
Walking on the Sun, Can’t Get Enough of You Baby, When the Morning Comes
Tumblr media
Sweet: You remember that part in Regular Show where they had the dance off with the ghost DJ’s? Or how about the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2 trailer? I even have a shirt with their logo on it because I liked the idea of making it tie-dye but it didn’t work very well so now it’s just an orange stained Sweet tee.
Some notable jams: Love is like Oxygen, Fox on the Run, Ballroom Blitz
Tumblr media
Sheryl Crow: “This ain’t no disco. This ain’t no country club either. This is L.A.” I can’t help but vibe when I hear her, I’m not into country (as you can see from this list) but she makes it fun, she is an exception of sorts, she doesn’t do just one thing. If you read her Wiki, she does basically all genres and I like that she isn’t bound to one thing, it’s representative of her fun music and personality. Yeah, she’s guilty of the mainstream wear out as well but they can’t have them all. Picture is technically Kid Rock but she’s featured and I’d feel bad if I didn’t include it.
Some notable jams: All I Wanna Do, Picture, Real Gone

SUMMER MOVIE LIST (Movie & Music) :  The Sound of the New Millennium or How Electronic and New Music Genres Changed the Way We "Listen" to Movies...
Tumblr media
Following the reading of a recent article on Noisey (link) about how THE BEACH and its electronic-music-infused soundtrack turned 18, one will realize that “techno/rave” music changed the way movies were scored or “musically supervised” and became an integral part of films playing almost as a new form of musical. Of course it all started back then with BLADE RUNNER or the original TRON but it bloomed in the late 90's early 00s with glorious soundtracks from BLADE or MATRIX; everybody knows “that song from that memorable scenes"!
Tumblr media
Around the same period, we also saw a great hybrid of electro/metal genre (new wave Goth/Heavy-Metal was also trending in soundtrack with Marilyn Manson or Rammstein) and films like XXX, RESIDENT EVIL and even the MATRIX trilogy used this unique blend to maximize on the “dark future / strange doom” feeling associated with the new millennium.
Tumblr media
It is interesting to also note that with this growing apprehension of the apocalypse came a "fashion" trend blending nothing and everything at a time where cultural appropriation was not a big deal! (It felt somehow "innocent" in term of cultural insensitivity; it was almost was perceived as  acknowledging or "honoring" the booming multiculturalism as opposed to the sense of "exoticism" associated with exhibiting oriental outfit in the 70's...) From "ethnic-pun" with neon cornrows, glittery bindies (or any Indian jewel) and African inspired makeup to the "woke angel of death" that turn goth into samurai; it was a jolly time where everything was permitted and nonsensical because... We were all suppose to die in some planet/sun/star/universe explosion due to the Y2K bug! (Let's remember that it wasn't just because of the movie but MTV music videos stars helped this from Janet Jackson to Gwen Stephany up untill Shakira - mixing native Indian feather with rocker leather pants - and reaching a peak with Madonna 'Frozen era'... What a time to be alive it must have been! )
Tumblr media
Anyway, in this spirit of nostalgia let's explore how these new music trend and particularly electronic music with its cool fresh sounds helped in shaping a new movie genre and created a specific (almost cliched!) cinematic atmosphere for the age.
What are some of these films past and present, that thanks to artists/composers from Pete Tongue to Trent Raznor, that made their marks on viewers and became canons of this “genre”!?
THE OG
BLADE RUNNER
Tumblr media
THE BEACH
Tumblr media
*song /fact/name dropping: Supervised by the superstar-dj-of-the-moment Pete Tong featuring that song from Moby and... Alex Garland wrote this! ( Also The Swinton was in this but some of us were babies at the time and did not know any better!)

BLADE

*song /fact/name dropping: No matter if you’ve seen the movie or not everyone knows that ‘Blood Rave’ song! If does not sound like the “epitomy of a doomsday rave” where everyone wear latex/vinyl-outfit neon contact lens, slick or spiky or symmetrical hairdo and all pretend they’re vampire ready to bite you neck!

If you don’t know now you know!
REQUIEM FOR A DREAM
Tumblr media
*song /fact/name dropping: The song that meant something ominous was about to happen!
THE ONES THAT CAN THANK THE DJ

ENTER THE VOID
Tumblr media
BLADE RUNNER
Tumblr media
THE BAD BATCH
Tumblr media
120 BPM
Tumblr media
*song /fact/name dropping: The  whole film was a goddamn Masterpiece but Arnaud Robotini managed to gave us an equally captivating or tense at time, and sad or jovial at others. Not since REQUIEM FOR A DREAM was a movie soundtrack so perfectly adequate and canonical of this electronic-infused genre. If this is your “cuppa” listen to it all, but the exceptionally perfect remix and use of ‘Smaltown Boy’ by Bronski beat deserved a special kind of recognition...

ANIHILATION

Opera Cake: What bands/music do you like?
My tastes are somewhat eclectic.
Genres: Classical (including opera and movie/vidja game soundtracks); techno/EDM; classic rock; some pop; things that sound like traditional music from the middle east, India, and Japan; OC Remixes and similar works of fan music; and some others.
Favorite Musicians (at the moment): Adele, Beach House, Beethoven, David Bowie, DeadCanDance, Gareth Coker/Aeralie Brighton, Daft Punk, Florence plus the Machine, Ellie Goulding, Heart, Joe Hisaishi, Yoko Kanno, Koji Kondo, Lady GaGa (aka Our Lady of GodGalupe), Junichi Masuda, Mika, Mozart, Muse, Niyaz, Pink Floyd, Queen, Sigur Ros (kinda-sorta), Sixpence None the Richer, T.a.T.u., Nobuo Uematsu, Vivaldi, Mahito Yokota, and many others.
Soundtracks: The Big O!, Cave Story, Cirque du Soleil’s Alegria and Dralion, Final Fantasy: Unlimited, Hell Girl (mainly “Jigoku Nagashi” and “Hell Rock” - the two songs that play when she’s getting dressed and traveling to waylay her victims and then when she’s torturing/damning them), Kiki’s Delivery Service, Koyaanisqatsi, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, Okami, Ori and the Blind Forest, Pan’s Labyrinth, Pokémon Red/Blue/Yellow and Gold/Silver/Crystal, Steven Universe, Super Mario Galaxy, Tron: Legacy, The Vision of Escaflowne, Were the World Mine (despite not caring much for musicals), World of WarCraft (but not all of it...), and possibly others (those are what I can think of off the top of my head and aren’t just single pieces).
Other Albums: December Underground (AFI - unusual for me), Exogensis Symphony (Muse), any GaGa except Joann (haven’t listened to it yet), Lights (Ellie Goulding), Mozart’s Requiem (my liking of Classical music is much broader, but I’m not looking up symphony numbers right now), ...
Songs (Non-Exhaustive): “And the Waltz Goes On” (by Sir Anthony Hopkins), “Apoplexy” (from the Final Fantasy Tactics OST), “Are We Arc” by TR/ST, the song from Doc Gerbil’s Boat Chase in Courage the Cowardly Dog, “Faerie Woods” by Bjorne Lynn (I have a MIDI that I can no longer play using the original instruments; I have a section saved as an mp3 with what it’s supposed to sound like and it’s amazing), “Footsteps in the Snow” from the Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn soundtrack (Shiva battle, part 1), “Good for Me” by Above & Beyond, “Guilty Moon” (thanks to @emeraldninjaiv for that one), “J’en ai Marre” by Alizée, “Kiss Me,” “Lullabies” (Yuna, remixed by Adventure Club), the song from the rooftop battle in Kara no Kyoukai (really, that scene in general), “Madman with a Box” (Doctor Who, 11th Doctor), “Madness,” the Mii Channel theme, “The One” by Daniel Bedingfield and Sharam, “One Winged Angel,” ...
Like, that’s not even half of favorites not already listed in albums from a playlist of some of my favorites (it’s a fairly small playlist right now). That playlist is mostly soundtracks, though, which isn’t all that representative.
I’m adding new music all the time. Like, @vasteblague got me into this sweet “vampire” waltz on YouTube and @emeraldninjaiv linked me to “Guilty Moon” from the Moon Hunters soundtrack (I’m waiting for that to go on sale on GOG).
I could go on for days about music. I used to not talk about it much (private stuff), buuuut...well, here we are.

Television rules the nation. 66. “Discovery,” 67. “Human After All,” 68. “Alive 2007,” 69. “Tron: Legacy Original Soundtrack,” 70. “Random Access Memories” by Daft Punk
I’m clueless about electronic music.
I mean, I know about Moog modular synthesizers, and drum machines, and sampling. I’ve heard of the people that most people have heard of. But I couldn’t pick out, by ear, one genre from another. Techno? House? (Nervously checks Wikipedia)… Drum and Bass? Ambient’s an easy one, and Dubstep is so widely maligned that I could probably name it in a blind taste test. All I know is my tastes, and that I just started reading Moby’s memoir of DJ’ing in NYC in the 90’s, so hopefully some light will be shed there. I don’t even remember how I got into Daft Punk originally, but I knew they were unlike anything else in my music diet, and that they had big hooks.
“One More Time” kicks off the mysterious French duo's big mainstream breakthrough Discovery (#66) with a crunchy horn sample and lightly vocoded vocals, and suddenly even this rhythmically-challenged mope can’t help but dance. “Digital Love,” with its relatable, infatuated lyrics delivered in an accented robot voice, might be one of my favorites in their catalogue. It’s immediately followed by classic banger “Harder Better Faster Stronger,” which even Kanye knew better than to futz with too much. The one track I'm inclined to skip is the appropriately-titled “Too Long,” a 10-minute end-of-the-night cool down that never takes off for me.
Human After All (#67) sets aside the disco-funk samples and vocals and leans into the android aesthetic even further, giving each track a harder edge. The title track makes assurances of our common humanity, but tracks like “Steam Machine” and “The Brainwasher” are club hits from the boiler room of Blade Runner's Tyrell Corp. “Television Rules The Nation” might be the most prescient title for our current situation ever devised. Luckily it’s a good song, too.
My ignorance about electronic musicians came shining through when I picked up Alive 2007 (#68) and thought, “Wait, how do these guys play these songs live?” The answer involves giant light-up pyramids. Before DJ culture reached new levels of mainstream success in the 2010’s (followed by a new level of derision, to boot), Daft Punk were remixing, mashing together, and deconstructing their own catalogue into one extended robot orgy. Now I got it: unlike traditional bands, who work to translate weeks of studio tinkering into cohesive numbers for live musicians, the aim here is to take snippets of familiar melodies, bass lines, and percussive hits from multiple songs and create a whole new jigsaw. That means thrilling combos like “Around The World / Harder Better Faster Stronger.” And segueways that keep you guessing, like “Superheroes” mixing into “Human After All,” before squiggly synth from “Rock’n Roll” brings everything to a boil.
This mastery of the digital domain makes the notion of Daft Punk scoring a 30 years later sequel to Disney cult film Tron, if not exactly a no-brainer, then a icily logical solution to an equation. With the liner notes to Tron: Legacy (#69) acknowledging guidance from movie maestros Hans Zimmer and Harry Gregson-Williams, the dance music duo translate surprisingly well to the orchestral world of big budget Hollywood tentpoles. They establish a theme upfront, and continue to find permutations throughout the length of the score, without getting overly repetitive. And their sonic identity stays intact, with squeals of synthesizer and 8-bit beats keeping time with the repeating string ostinatos and heavy brass blares (this was the same year as Zimmer’s endlessly copied/parodied “Inception” BWAM.) And then there’s pieces like “Derezzed,” a minute-and-a-half of pure crunchy robot fight. I finally saw the actual film years later on Netflix, and as I assumed, the movie that the score conjured in my mind was far superior.
Random Access Memories (#70) was a comeback to the top 40, wrapped in a throwback sound and visual aesthetic. The classic red and yellow Colombia Records overlay on the disc face places this style experiment square in the 70’s. An emphasis on live musicians and collaborations with artists from disco’s heyday and pop rock’s present meant a fresh new mashup of familiar elements. Phantom of the Paradise star Paul Williams lending 70’s bonafides to “Touch," followed by Britney Spears and Nelly hitmaker extraordinaire Pharell Williams’s bouncy vocal contribution to “Get Lucky” (with fellow super-producer Nile Rodgers laying down his legendary guitar skills). The track got played out, for sure, but it raised the album’s profile like a good single should.
My personal fave is probably “Instant Crush,” with The Strokes’ Julian Casablancas giving vocoder magic to a chilly 80’s ballad. I remember when the album came out, I used my day off from an extended TV gig to track it down. The crew was planning on a dinner party that night, and somehow I had been handed DJ duty. My basic playlist had been assembled, but this was the missing piece. “Give Life Back to Music,” with its undeniable guitar intro, kicked off an unforgettable night. “Lose Yourself to Dance,” four-on-the-floor funk featuring Pharell’s 2nd lead vocal, went to the middle of the deck, for when the empty plates had been set aside and the bonfire was at full burn.

TRON: Legacy
Tumblr media
2010’s TRON: Legacy brought the technological world of The Grid back to the big screen for the first time since the original TRON back in 1982. Released on December 17th, 2010, the modern adaptation of the story of the journey of a son trying to save his father from the video game world he created stars Jeff Bridges, Garrett Hedlund, and Olivia Wilde and was directed by Joseph Kosinski. A year after it’s release, the film had made over $400 million worldwide and had also won an Oscar for achievement in sound editing, Saturn awards for best music, costume, actor, and special effects. (IMDb)
TRON: Legacy is a visually stunning film with excellent effects and world creation. For the most part, it’s a CGI film, but, much to this author’s surprise, scenes like Kevin Flynn’s apartment and the End of Line Club were done on a real set. The costumes were created to look futuristic and techy with specially-made light strips to illuminate and perfectly fit the environment they’re in. When it comes down to it though, the soundtrack takes center stage as much as the CGI does. Daft Punk, French electronic music duo, was hired to compose all the music in a style that they’re truly masters in. There are orchestral-style tracks that bring out the emotion behind the scene and then they add just enough “biodigital jazz” to remind you who you’re really listening to when you hear the music. On occasion, Daft Punk goes beyond the cinematic song and delivers a track that not only fits the film but adds some more action to the scene. A perfect example of this is “Derezzed” during the End of Line Club attack. It has a solid beat which adds to the action of the scene and has the techno style of the film amped up just right.
At first glance, this film seems like it would be kind of odd and not really fit for the general audience due to the video game-like nature of the CGI but it had enough Walt Disney Pictures’ love to allow it to resonate with audiences even when the story isn’t like most films they’re used to. If you come for a good story, this one is easy to follow and rally behind. If you come for awesome uses of CGI, TRON if filled to the brim. If you come for the music, Daft Punk outdid themselves. If you come for all the above, well then, you’ll certainly love it. It’s honestly one of my favorite films for the above reasons and more and I can’t understate my opinion that I think it’s a must-see for any movie fan.
