The Trempeauleau County Sheriff’s Department sent out an updated news release this weekend on a death reported at about 8:30 p.m. May 15 near the intersection of County Hwy. TT, Truax Lane and Hwy. 53.

Se expande peligroso virus de influenza de aves a Wisconsin
El Departamento de Agricultura, Comerció y Protección al Consumidor de Wisconsin (DATCP) ha identificado un caso de influenza aviar altamente patógena (HPAI) en una granja del condado Taylor dias atras, y el 21 de noviembre reportó un caso de alto caso de contagio en el Condado Trempealeau.
En octubre, Iowa, Michigan y Minnesota reportaron casos domésticos.
Se pide a los propietarios y trabajadores de las granjas practicar fuertes medidas de bioseguridad para proteger a las aves de este virus mortal.
Las primeras medidas incluye lavarse las manos, desinfectar los equipos, restringir el acceso a donde se encuentren las aves y separar a las aves nuevas de los bandadas existentes
Los virus aviarios son altamente contagiosos y en la mayoría de los casos fatales para las aves de corral domésticas. La enfermedad se transmite por contacto con las aves infectadas, mezcladose con aves silvestres o sus excrementos, equipo o ropa de personas que hayan trabajado con animales enfermos.
- Muerte súbita sin signos clínicos
- Falta de energía o apetito
- Disminución de la producción de huevos; huevos blandos y deformes
- Decoloración púrpura de las barbas, la cresta y las patas
- Respiración dificultosa
- Secreción nasal, tos, estornudos
- Tropezar o caer
- Diarrea
DATCP recuerda a los propietarios de aves de corral de Wisconsin que registren sus instalaciones. La ley estatal exige que todos los propietarios de ganado registren dónde se mantienen sus animales. El registro ayuda a los funcionarios de salud animal a comunicarse con los propietarios de rebaños durante los brotes de enfermedades.

Projectile Points – Largest, Smallest
Projectile points (includes arrow and spear tips) help us to date sites since both the sizes and shapes changed through time. Points come in a variety of sizes and the two illustrated here are extremes! The larger point is 15 cm (6 inches) long, and the smaller one is only about 1 cm (just under 1/2 inch). The larger point is an Early Woodland Adena point from a site along the Mississippi River in Houston County, Minnesota. It’s made of a whitish chert that looks like Burlington but has too much patina (a weathered exterior surface) to be sure. The tiny corner-notched point came from an Archaic and Middle/Late Woodland site in the Perrot State Park area near Trempealeau. It’s made of grey chert similar to Grand Meadow chert from southeastern Minnesota.
