#Top 5 Italian Fashion Brands
Hey I'm sorry if this is a strange question but say someone was looking for good Italian outfits for characters. Do you have any suggestions of where someone should look?
It's Haute Couture Time!
Since our Hiroiko Araki took inspo from High Fashion, I think we can also do the same with our characters! (Almost every brand I'm gonna quote in this post is already being used in Stone Ocean.)
This is a top 10 of Italian Brands that I love and cherish:
1. GUCCI
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
"The way you dress is really the way you feel, the way you live, what you read, your choices. That's what I want to put into Gucci."
Alessandro Michele
Back in 1921, Guccio Gucci founds a small suitcase company in Florence, Italy. Gucci came up with many iconic products: from the bamboo-handled handbag, the buckled belt, to the ever -present mocassino. Today, the iconic interlocking GG logo is not just the emblem of a haute couture brand, but is also the archetype of Italy's fashion culture and history. No other brand holds the same fame as Gucci, but more importantly, no other brand holds a special place in the heart of Italian culture like Gucci does.
2. Versace
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
"There is a Versace who is very conservative, there is a Versace who is very crazy, there is a Versace who is very theatre … I haven’t decided yet which I choose to be."
Gianni Versace
Created in 1978 by Gianni Versace, Versace is the epitome of luxury among Italian clothing brands. This brand most distinctive features are bright colors, exuberant graphics and audacious designs. The choice to use 'Medusa' in the logo is certainly not accidental: the Greek mythological character is in fact the symbol of intriguing beauty, seduction, and strength.
3. Prada
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
"What you wear is how you present yourself to the world, especially today when human contacts go so fast. Fashion is instant language."
Miuccia Prada
Prada started as a luxury leather luggage brand. Founded in 1913 by Mario Prada, the company became the official supplier to the King of Italy in 1919 ( the iconic knotted rope framing the Prada logo is actually a symbol of the House of Savoy). Prada is an expression of timeless elegance. Nowadays, Prada's fashion collections are characterized by flashy colors, patterns and designs, an eccentricity that is always balanced by the brand's unmistakable class.
4.Miu Miu
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Miu Miu was founded in 1993 by Miuccia Prada as a branch of the famous Prada fashion house. The brand is often defined as the young and exuberant yin to Prada's timeless and legendary yang.
Known for its ready-to-wear and handbag collections, the brand is never short on color and energy. Miu Miu eccentric style is characterized by unconventional clothing, shoes, handbags, jewelry, eyewear fragrances all enveloped in a whirlwind of colors.
5.Fendi
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
"My mother, a hard worker and a woman of great taste, was the soul of the company and immediately entrusted us with the entire business, but she kept control of everything (...) She always told us we could only be mistaken once, not twice."
Anna Fendi
Founded in 1925 by husband and wife Edoardo and Adele, Fendi is universally acclaimed as the foremost authority in fur production. In nearly a century of history, the brand has become a symbol of artisan creativity, which is lived out today in a modern key in its lines of clothing, leather goods, footwear and accessories.
6.Emporio Armani
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
"When I started Giorgio Armani in the mid-'70s, I realized that women needed a way to dress that was equivalent to that of men - something that would give them dignity, an attitude that would help them handle their work life."
Giorgio Armani
Giorgio Armani's name immediately evokes images of elegant black suits, shiny leather pants and the tasteful extravagance that only Italian clothing brands can create. In 1975, Armani founds of his fashion empire, rooting his design vision in ordinary people and street style. Today the brand has created multiple lines, including Emporio Armani, Armani Exchange, EA7 and Armani Jeans.
7.Valentino
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
"I know what women want. They want to be beautiful."
Valentino Garavani
After studying fashion in Paris, Valentino Garavani travels back to Rome in 1960 to open his own fashion house. Valentino is a synthesis of the grandiose and opulent nature of Parisian fashion houses with an Italian twist.
Valentino's name is associated with the shade of red used in most of his clothes, so much so that he was referred to as 'Valentino Red.'
8.Dolce e Gabbana
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"Italians know that what matters is style, not fashion. Italian style does not have social or age boundaries."
Stefano Gabbana
Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana are regarded as the inventors of the so-called Mediterranean style. Since its foundation in 1985, the Dolce & Gabbana company has experienced continuous expansion, becoming a recognized and influential presence in the universe of luxury brands. Contrast is an inexhaustible source of stimulation and inspiration for the brand and manifests itself in a style that reconciles luxury and urban fashion, tradition and research, excess and rigor, dream and reality.
9.Bottega Veneta
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
A specialist in luxury leather goods and accessories, the Bottega Veneta brand was created in 1966 by Michele Taddei and Renzo Zengiaro.
The brand is arguably best known for its "woven" leather, a handcrafted technique that crosses leather or suede to create a textured checkerboard pattern.
10. Moschino
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"Good taste doesn't exist. It is our taste. We should be proud of it."
Franco Moschino
Founded in 1983 by Franco Moschino, the Italian brand has profoundly influenced the evolution of contemporary fashion. Deviating from the classic vision of fashion elegance, the brand embraced popular culture and everyday iconography: pop art, comic books, and plush were among its sources of inspiration. Its all-over print jeans, flashy graphics, and large logos made the connection between high fashion and urban culture.
Author's note and personal opinion under the cut:
I personally recommend to look up Gucci current collections and Versace 90's couture for some extravagant and jojoesque choices. Moschino is also good, and it's even an affordable brand!

Miss Kyouko’s Locked-Room Lecture (5/7)
5
The upscale bar commanded upscale prices.
His subordinate’s assumption turned out to be quite inconveniently costly. Not only had the bill from the Italian restaurant they had recently departed almost caused his eyes to pop out of their sockets, but this bar, despite being only a bar, appeared to be more expensive than a full-blown dinner.
Probably wouldn't be on the budget.
Which meant he would have to pay a hell of a lot of his own pocket. It felt entirely more unsuitable a place than he previously thought, but he was past caring at this point.
Despite Kyouko-san’s Nashorn branded outfit also not quite syncing with the posh ambiance here, she didn’t seem bothered in the slightest.
“Oh, what a cute little bar!”
She was as giddy as a normal girl.
This detective, cute and charming as she was, could just as well be a devil in disguise. Tooasa had his doubts, having seen one too many colleagues get ahead thanks to her, though he tried not to show it. He couldn’t help viewing them with a slightly contemptuous, grudging eye. However, he may have to reconsider such shallow thinking.
Thinking about the expense they must have incurred entertaining her, he almost felt sorry for them. Though here and now Officer Tooasa found himself in the same boat.
On the way here he had wracked his brains trying to gain some insight of his own, but nothing came to him. It was becoming apparent that he and Kyouko-san operated on completely different wavelengths.
Her hints were no help at all.
Maybe not at all— The hint about the eyewitnesses all being shoppers did suggest that none of the shop staff saw the victim come in. Clearly odd.
It's not impossible but you’d expect shop attendants to notice customers rather than fellow shoppers. They’d greet them as they entered, offer assistance with fashion choices— as it’s a clothes shop.
The staff may have avoided or ignored the ‘troublesome customer’ Yanei Sashiko altogether. But still they must have noticed her presence in the first place. To actively ignore somebody, you must see them first.
None of the attendants spotted a regular and in some ways a memorable customer— why was this?— a big question mark.
What exactly this question mark meant, however, Officer Tooasa simply could not figure out.
As for hints number two and three, he was all but stumped. About the only conclusion he could draw was that fitting rooms in young women’s boutiques harbor mechanisms yet unknown to middle-aged men.
In fact, there were a plethora of unfamiliar terms until Kyouko-san had translated for him— the presence of a mysterious paper intended to prevent makeup stains on the garments, for instance. Had he not been assigned to this case he might have lived his entire life without knowing.
“I concede. My hands are up. I'm just a cop sidekicking for you, so I implore you, Kyouko-san, let us all learn from the wisdom of a master detective.”
Perhaps intoxicated by the steep cost of the alcohol, finally Officer Tooasa gave such a humiliating declaration of surrender.
“My, oh my,”
Kyouko-san said with an expression of shock.
“Try and hold on a little longer, would you? I enjoy it most when I’m sipping fine wine while watching men struggle.”
A little devil she was.
“What a conundrum. You invite me for a meal, ply me with drinks, and officer, how I long to lend you a hand. Alas, I cannot work without compensation… Oh why, why didn't I charge you? Never have I felt such remorse for not taking money. Just imagine how amazing it would be if I had gotten paid! I yearn to aid the police so badly, yet here I remain, unfulfilled.”
“Fine, I’ll pay. Please, allow me to officially compensate you with an additional commission fee on top of the original. Consider it a personal commission from me.”
Prompted by the urging of the fastest detective, he finally gave in— making him suspect the chief had orchestrated this turn of events all along.
Regardless, he could only go along with it now.
The policeman’s rivalry with the detective should never overshadow the urgency of preventing a murderer from escaping justice. A locked room murder was no form of entertainment.
Buying her food and drinks and now even paying her a fee— it was going to cost him an arm and a leg from the look of it. But anyhow, he decided it best to personally handle this as his final stand.
Strangely enough, despite having officially engaged her services and even promised to pay extra beyond the interpretation fee, Kyouko-san displayed only a faint reaction.
With the bar's atmosphere it wasn't surprising that she wasn't jumping for joy, but she appeared somewhat troubled upon his request.
“Mmmmm…”
She even shut her eyes as if deep in thought.
Could it be a misunderstanding on his part? Did she not expect to be asked for her services? Were her statements of anticipation for his deductions genuine?
By the time late regret had seeped in and he felt he should have asked in more formal manner, Kyouko-san, as if reading his concerns, waved a hand dismissively,
“Oh no, you’ve misunderstood,”
She said.
“My deductions are nothing more than brief flashes of insight. It just so happens that, in this particular case, my mind’s light bulb flickered on a nanosecond before yours did. I genuinely appreciate your trust and respect in seeking my assistance, and it truly brings me joy to contribute to the police force in solving mysteries. However, there’s a certain degree of trepidation, a nagging hesitation, when it comes to unveiling my reasoning. It pertains to personal… considerations. But it can’t be helped, sadly. We cannot leave a killer at large now, can we?”
This is part of the job, said Kyouko-san.
Not explicitly, but her words conveyed to Officer Tooasa that she understood his intentions, which gratified him. What concerned him, however, were the “personal considerations” mentioned.
What could possibly be the reason that would make this detective hesitate to reveal her reasoning? The immediate thought that crossed his mind was the possibility of an acquaintance of hers being a suspect. With the forgetful detective though, the concept of “acquaintance” didn’t seem to apply.
For even if she became acquainted with someone today, she would forget them tomorrow.
Even if among today's eyewitnesses, someone had a past connection with Kyouko-san, she would have already forgotten that person. There shouldn't be any reason for her to hesitate pointing out the culprit. But if not that, then what other “personal considerations” had she?
“Right then, if we’ve decided, let’s get to it promptly. It’s getting late, we’ve had some drinks, and I’m feeling a bit drowsy, so best I begin solving this mystery while the deductions are still fresh in my mind.”
Okitegami Kyouko, now in detective mode, with a dramatic, serious look— or not, she had the same relaxed air as before as she got down to business.
“First things first, the locked room.”
6
“First things first, the locked room. Let us classify what sort of locked room we have here. Officer, being an avid reader of detective fiction, I’m sure you’re familiar with the various types of them. But for the time being consider this my interpretation— bear with me.”
And with these words, Kyouko-san rolled up her sleeves once again, again apparently planning to use her arm as a whiteboard. She took the ballpoint pen that Officer Tooasa held out in silence and began jotting down her 'hints'— much like an actual lecture.
“The most likely, or perhaps most popular, type of locked room is of Definition (i): a ‘Locked Room Concealing Murder’. Trap the body where nobody can access it and the crime may escape discovery— you're safe. A variant is when a body is hidden in a locked room as far from sight and reach as possible by someone desperate to escape confronting the grim reality of what they’ve done.”
No objection there.
Or rather, Officer Tooasa thought at first this was such a case—Although.
“Yes. I would think a fitting room doesn’t serve much for coverup. You can hide it, say a couple hours at most— not exactly designed to conceal.”
Kyouko-san wrote in fine print on her wrist: (i), and drew a double strikethrough on the words— and under it, (ii).
“Definition (ii): ‘Coincidental Locked Room.’ It's cases where the crime scene appears like a locked room due to a combination of factors of chance, not the perpetrator's intention.”
A force of habit without any planning involved?
Happening to be a locked room, the odds seemed low, but when viewed as the second-most popular option in reality— Well in reality, not in detective novels, criminals with the luxury of deliberately creating locked rooms are but few.
The discussion thus far suggested this Definition (ii) was the most appropriate for this case…
“Yes. In this case however, it does feel excessively convenient to be by accident. For now I suggest we set it aside and move on.”
Kyouko-san wrote a (iii) below ‘Coincidental Locked Room'— Judging by the space left, there would be five or six definitions total.
“Definition (iii): a locked room designed to simulate suicide. In the otherworldly realm of detective fiction, I’d venture to say this is the most common type of locked room.”
“Yes, it is. The exclusion of other options makes it impossibly to think of anything other than suicide…There’s no shortage of such locked rooms in mystery.”
Rather than that, it could be one of the ways in which the keyword “locked room” survives there. The inevitability of a secret room or such arises in its own way…and even the most outlandish locked room acquires a certain persuasiveness.
“But Kyouko-san, regardless of whether there’s a criminal out there willing to go to such lengths, here it doesn’t seem to apply. It’s hard to believe the culprit tried to make Yanei-san’s death look like suicide.”
“Agreed. …Incidentally, as a variation of this Definition (iii), you could also consider a locked room where the victim genuinely committed suicide. Mystery fans tend to look at cases from a skewed angle, but in normal terms, if someome appears to have died by suicide inside a locked room, usually that’s what it is.”
As she spoke, Kyouko-san crossed out Definition (iii) as well. Though it was none of Officer Tooasa’s business, didn’t she ever consider that her skin also needed care?
“Definition (iv): ‘Locked room in the name of a locked room.’”
“What? What’s that mean?… Something philosophical?”
“It’s far removed from philosophy, rather a whimsical criminal act of fabricating a locked room just for the fun of it. Without real necessity or clear reason behind it, only the conception of a locked room trick that they then put into action. You could even call this the result of reading too many detective novels.”
We should be cautious ourselves, said Kyouko-san— Hard to tell how serious she was being, but it was hard for the officer who had enlisted precisely due to an excessive habit of reading detective novels to write off the existence of such a person.
Just earlier, he had thought, ‘that can’t be’ of a culprit who goes out of his way to create a locked room— a portrait of a criminal obsessively convinced that he must conceive a locked room when committing murder. Alternatively, the culprit could just be lumping ‘creating a locked room’ in with ‘wearing gloves to avoid leaving evidence’ or ‘fabricating an alibi,’ deeming it a required step in the crime process.
“Are we… setting this aside as well, Kyouko-san?”
“I think we can rule it out. A fitting room is too flimsy to be a locked room. If it wasn’t for you and I being detective novel readers, we probably wouldn’t have seen it as such at all.”
Indeed, none of Officer Tooasa’s colleagues had that impression of the case. They probably would have told him he was overthinking it.
“Put simply, that means the clues must be about there…that for some reason, the culprit had to make the fitting room into a locked room, specifically.”
“Hmm…”
The story seemed to make sense and not make sense at the same time. In any case, Kyouko-san rejected Definition (iv) as well.
“What about Definition (v)? I sense we’ve reached a minority here, already at the fourth…”
Depicted as a pie chart, assuming the first definition accounted for eighty percent, the second ten percent, the third at most five percent…the fourth would be at most three percent.
Any locked rooms in the remaining two percent or less could be dismissed as aberrations, missing the mark by less than five percent could be casually brushed aside.
“Quite right. Though for mystery enthusiasts like myself, Definition (v) is the most tantalizing of all…”
After making such an ostentatious remark, Kyouko-san added,
“Definition (v): ‘Impossible Crime Locked Room.’ Creating a situation where the crime seems utterly impossible for anybody to commit, making it difficult to even identify suspects, let alone pin down the culprit, and intending for the case itself to become an unsolvable maze… Morality aside, you have to admit there’s a certain criminal genius in designing the perfect locked room mystery.”
“…This is different from Definition (iii), ‘simulating suicide’?”
“Yes, different. Definition (v) vehemently refuses to be interpreted in a realistic manner— because it’s impossible for anybody, it insists that it’s impossible even for itself. There’s a certain urgency to it… Hence, adding an exception to these five definitions, we have Definition (vi): ‘Other Locked Rooms.’”
Officer Tooasa scrutinized the whiteboard— Kyouko-san’s arm— once again. The crossed-out definitions were difficult to decipher but not altogether unintelligible.
Definition (i): ‘Locked Room Concealing Murder’
Definition (ii): ‘Coincidental Locked Room’
Definition (iii): ‘Locked Room Simulating Suicide’
Definition (iv): ‘Locked Room in the Name of Locked Room’
Definition (v): ‘Impossible Crime Locked Room’
Definition (vi): ‘Other Locked Rooms’
…Nothing particularly original or novel in terms of mystery fiction, but comprehensive enough. Arranged in order of realism, it simplifies and sorts the types of locked rooms in a very understandable manner.
But the discussion would only be a lecture on mystery fiction if it ended here— the question is how these definitions apply to the case at hand.
“Barring one, three and four, our locked room must be either two, five or six.”
“I think we can discount number six, ‘other locked rooms’, as that refers to the fantastical or ‘locked rooms from another world’. For better or worse, our case lacks such fanciful surprises.”
What exactly constituted a ‘locked room from another world’? We can only imagine. A room of magic or curses? If so, it wouldn’t even account for 1 percent of the pie chart. However, within the realm of detective fiction, which can be considered fantasy in its own right, such rooms might indeed exist. Though some readers may find it unfair…
“Then it must be either Definition (ii) or Definition (v)?”
“Supposing there were no eyewitnesses, it would be a locked room of Definition (ii)— this theory however does not allow for further investigation. Such a fluke would be all too convenient.”
“But Definition (v) is ‘impossible crime,’ isn’t it? Not just too good to be true; the complete opposite— it's impossible.”
To create a locked room means the murderer deliberately intended to evade the staff, customers, and cameras— sounds impossible enough. Admittedly, nobody could pull this off.
“But what if this is exactly what the murderer wanted us to think. Put another way, to dismiss a meticulously crafted crime as mere 'coincidence’ with a single word could be deeply displeasing for the culprit as well, don’t you think?”
So allow me to present my theory— she said something which, from the culprit's point of view, was very much undesired.
The murderer most likely did not commit the crime whilst contemplating definitions of a locked room. Be that Definition (ii) or Definition (v), the optimal outcome for them was simply that the crime goes undetected.
“Speaking of which, Officer Tooasa, how far have you pondered the three hints I gave you earlier? If there are parts that don’t need an explanation, I can skip those briefly.”
“Oh, err, to be honest, I haven’t quite… at best, I’ve only understood about half of the meaning of hint number one… Basically it implies that it’s odd for the clerks not to have seen a regular customer, right?”
“Yes, that’s correct. Excellent.”
She praised him so yet he couldn’t feel satisfied. He agreed something was odd, but he would be at a total loss if pressed to explain why.
“Don't be so modest. If you go back far enough, you will find that the answer is already there— none of the employees, not a single one, seeing Yanei-san, the regular patron, implies that nobody knew who she was. Those not acquainted with her were the ones who saw her."
Huh?
He was about to object to her leap in logic when she went on,
“That is, no eyewitnesses recognized her. Their accounts only prove that a customer dressed in Nashorn’s fashionable attire was present. It does not confirm that they saw her as herself."
“But— the CCTV footage…”
Caught her— from behind.
Considering she was wearing oversized glasses, CCTV footage alone might not suffice to positively identify her. The police therefore attempted to make a comprehensive judgement based on the collated eyewitness accounts— couldn't this confirm her arrival at the store at about eleven?
“Since eyewitnesses identified her solely based on her clothing and naturally, in a clothes store, people pay attention to what other customers are wearing.”
“You, you’re suggesting… they mistook someone else for her?”
Come to that, it had been suggested before.

Notes on a rainy day...
Hi Skippy & Friends-Pilgrim checking in on this holiday Monday. ** The new statue in Boston leaves much to be desired. This is supposed to be about an inspiring love story, celebrating a major international award! The joy of the moment is missing IMHO. 10 million invested, when Boston has so many other big bills to pay with a brand new Govenor taking over just this week...on top of all the "immigrants" that arrive in the dark of night, flown or bussed in that will now be automatically given an official MA driver's liscense and freebie$$? NYC is totally overwhelmed too with "immigrants" along with untold small towns being quietly invaded. The public is not encouraged to mention it because we are told these unvetted people are not really illegal...sooo...does that mean the King in the olde fable WAS wearing clothes???
** How refreshing to see the Duke of Wales speak English correctly. His younger brother seems to think it is proper to say over and over, his pronoun first..."me and my wife" showing how poorly educated many Americans are.
** The portrait drawings of ERII are fantastic. It's hard to believe only 5 months have passed-especially for her family carrying on!!! Barely time to catch ones breath with the powerful images of her funeral; joyful celebrations of her last Jubilee AND the ugly war of the Harkles. ** From the story about her fabulous, sweet PJ brooch...perhaps they will make one with fine crystals in silvertone for those of us who can't afford the real deal. Otherwise I will look for something similar, circle with Lily of the Valley and Thistles. A long time ago I was introduced to collectible costume jewelry which was a major industry right here in New England, mainly Providence, RI. From 1930-60's popular brands signed their jewelry lines which became really collectible due to their fine workmanship, high end crystals, plating and priced for the average lady. In the 80's a couple of Italian collectors published a fabulous "coffee table" book featuring some of their best finds. That began an international collector craze which I joyfully joined by accident. I was lucky to find many beautiful "book pieces" still affordable over the years. Anyhoo, this brooch reminded me of those good times hunting at flea markets and antique malls in cities across the country. Every year I wear a favorite Christmas brooch on my coat. Yesterday I decided to keep this up changing them out for fun, even if brooches aren't in fashion. If ERII thought they were a good thing to wear then why not keep up the tradition in our own little way? If you visit a Canadian site called N & N Vintage Costume Jewelry, Masterpiece section, I think you will find lots to study for inspiration! There are many beautiful books now about who the top designers were and their best pieces.
** With so many difficult things happening around us it is mind blowing to try to take it all in. I admire Princess Anne and Sir Tim Lawrence as they quietly handle massive responsibilities supporting the public. Also, the very busy Catherine, Princess of Wales who simply said when asked about Harolds insulting claims, that she was "baffled." Boom! Right there I sensed the Harkles are toast. Yesterday's news. Tempest in a teapot as in, the ship has left the dock and the sun is sinking in the west...LOL At least one can hope...off to my easel to take care of MY mental health.
Thank you, great post❤️

Climate Angels should wear Prada
Tumblr media
The pressure on luxury labels is growing. They must meet the expectations of eco-conscious Generations Y and Z and face an EU challenge to greenwashing. A visit to Prada.
Even the name sounds promising: Valvigna[1], valley of the vines. In the middle of Tuscany, right on the Autostrada del Sole, is the third "garden factory" of the fashion label Prada. The 33,000 square meter plant expresses a humble respect for nature. 980 vines entwine, following the genius loci: shady pergolas. 8,700 climbing plants make as well facades green, as atriums and even the sky-high glass roof of the canteen, 74,000 ground cover plants spread out in beds, 29,000 bushes ensure that the factory is harmoniously embedded in the spring-like hilly landscape near Arezzo[2]. This is where the productive heart of the Milan luxury group beats. And that is at first glance: incredibly green.
Three weeks ago, far away in Berlin, a different picture came to mind. Climate activists sprayed the shop window and logo of the Prada store on Kurfürstendamm[3] with the signal colour orange. The Italian fashion brand's flagship store was vandalized beyond recognition. "We can't afford the rich anymore," read the signs of the Last Generation[4]. Their colour attack was probably more against the status symbols of wealth than against the manufacturer. But the protest hits Prada and the whole industry in a sore spot.[5]
The pressure on European luxury labels is growing. On the one hand, they have to meet the expectations of their climate-conscious customers from generations Y and Z, whose influence is rapidly increasing globally. On the other hand, the European legislators require the fashion industry to adapt to increasingly strict EU guidelines in terms of sustainability. Brussels no longer wants to be satisfied with declarations of intent and insists on real progress. This is a declaration of war on the greenwashing[6] that is widespread in all sectors of the economy.
In addition, the climate issue for the fashion world is very fundamental. Can an industry that thrives on constantly arousing new desires go green at all? Is expensive luxury fashion sustainable just because it rarely ends up in the dustbin and more and more often in hip resale shops?
Lorenzo Bertelli, 35, sees Prada on the right path towards environmentally friendly production. In a light gray slim-fit suit and a casual shirt, the designated corporate heritage leads through the bag factory in Valvigna. This son of Miuccia Prada and Patrizio Bertelli, who took over the leather goods store founded in Milan in 1913 and transformed it into a globally coveted fashion brand with 612 of its own stores and 24 factories, has been Head of Marketing since 2019 and has been responsible for sustainability since 2020. In a few years he is to replace his parents at the top of the group and lead one of the few still independent luxury companies in Italy into the future.
Today, the dark-curly Prada offspring has to ensure that the family business sharpens its profile in a climate-friendly manner. The Milan label is trying to adopt a more transparent sustainability strategy and catch up with the pioneers in the industry.
The flagship project is green nylon
"We want to be the engine of change," says Bertelli, who lives out his passion for horsepower as a rally driver, but drives electrically in everyday life. He points to initial successes. The company's greenhouse gas emissions were reduced by 34 percent in 2022 compared to 2019, already exceeding the target of 29.4 percent set for 2026. "Our strong growth allows us to accelerate the process," he says. Two thirds of the electricity used across the Group comes from renewable sources. Four years ago, fur was completely banned from the collections of Prada and the young brand Miu Miu. In 2019, Prada was the first fashion company to take out a loan of 50 million euros, the interest rates of which are linked to the fulfilment of sustainability goals.
Lorenzo Bertelli scores particularly well with a flagship project: It's called Re-Nylon[7] and gets a lot of praise. Because it's not marketing. Rather, it ties in with the breakthrough of the mother 35 years ago.
When Miuccia Prada sent her first collection down the Milan catwalk in 1988, the granddaughter of the master of fine leather accessories shocked the fashion scene with a black nylon backpack.

Can a piece made of water-repellent, functional fabric even be considered a luxury? And how! The nylon satchel made of cheap synthetic fibre made from petroleum conquered wealthy customers and became a cult object. Miuccia's backpack was the perfect anti-statement of traditional luxury. The designer became the darling of a generation that wanted to break away from the classic status symbols. The sales success of the minimalist sack was the reason for Prada's rise to become a cool global brand. Nylon became a trademark of Prada.
Two years ago, the company completed its move away from the dirty stuff. Since 2021, Prada has only used 100 percent recycled synthetic fibres from old fishing nets, carpeting and other textile waste. The luxury group now processes more than 1 million meters of green nylon a year for its clothing, shoes and bags. The material was developed by the Italian chemical company Aquafil[8]. The pioneer from Arco on Lake Garda saves 90 percent of climate-damaging CO2 emissions in the production of regenerated Econyls and also eliminates mountains of nylon waste from the world. Bertelli says: "For Prada, Re-Nylon is a milestone on the way to the circular economy".
In this way, the loop was closed for his family. In 1988, when Miuccia Prada celebrated her brilliant debut, she also gave birth to her son Lorenzo. The 35-year-old has now made her avant-garde nylon cool again.
The decision was made at Prada at a critical moment. In 2019, the company turned around after a five-year weak phase that saw the label lose its shine and suffered a decline in sales and profits. The Renaissance succeeded. In 2022, Prada experienced the best financial year in its history. A record turnover of 4.2 billion euros was achieved, one billion more than in the pre-Covid year 2019. In the first three months of this year, turnover increased by 22 percent. The Miu Miu brand even increased its store sales by 42 percent. The shoe brands Church's and Car Shoe also belong to the group.
Tumblr media
For the young Bertelli, business success is the prerequisite for his sustainability strategy. "My first thought in the morning is for the 13,768 employees whose salary I have to guarantee," he says in Valvigna. That's why the Re-Nylon project is so important. It brought many young customers into the Prada stores, he says. "Re-Nylon proves that sustainability pays off".
In other areas, however, Bertelli hesitates. For example leather goods. The issue is gaining in importance as awareness of the environmental impact of leather manufacturing and concerns about animal husbandry grow. And because leather, which accounts for the majority of raw material consumption at Prada, has a particularly large carbon footprint among the materials used in fashion. Other luxury manufacturers are experimenting with leather-like materials that come from the laboratory rather than from a slaughterhouse[9]. Bertelli doesn't think the market is ready for this yet. "Consumers still want real leather," he says.
That doesn't sound very ambitious. Because in order to achieve its own sustainability goal, Prada must now reduce its absolute emissions of climate killers, including emissions caused externally by the supply chain, by 42 percent by 2029. While until now the environmental impact has been reduced in-house, Prada now has to address emissions that are beyond its direct control and are therefore far more difficult to influence. Example: procurement of raw materials. There is no plan yet on how to achieve this goal. The fact that Bertelli recruited reinforcements at the beginning of the year made one sit up and take notice. He recruited the experienced sustainability manager Chiara Morelli from the French luxury group Kering, which is considered the industry leader in climate protection.
Its industrial strength should also help the glamorous group. In the chic garden factory in Valvigna, where 770 employees work, not only are all the bag collections designed and developed through to the production of the prototypes. Patrizio Bertelli, 77, also controls the other 23 factories of the group from here. Ever since he and his wife turned the outdated family brand into the world-famous "The Devil Wears Prada" label, Bertelli has relied on the company's vertical integration.
Tumblr media
At the age of 18, the Tuscan already owned a small leather business. For decades, he was ridiculed in the industry for his factory weakness. Now the competing brands of the luxury groups LVMH[10] and Kering[11] are copying it. In a race to secure the technical know-how, all fashion houses are now expanding their own production in Italy or taking on contract manufacturers. Starting from a high level, Prada is now investing a further 130 million euros in the expansion of its own factories in two years. 30 percent of the goods are already produced there. The control should now support the tour de force in environmental protection. "Our industrial model is a strong accelerator of the sustainability strategy," says Lorenzo Bertelli.
He also knows that there is still a long way to go before (climate) Angels wear Prada. And: The luxury industry cannot push itself. Prada's gross operating profit was 78 percent of sales last year. So there is no shortage of money. "If you have more, you should also do more," says Bertelli.

Their civil disobedience methods, such as desecrating artworks or blocking roads, often generate public outrage. In 2022, the group performed 276 road blockades in Germany. In Rome, they threw soup at a van Gogh painting behind glass, called The Sower. In Potsdam, they threw mashed potatoes onto a Monet painting. None of the artworks they attacked were damaged. The group was formed by participants of the 2021 Hungerstreik der letzten Generation which had blockaded highways in Berlin. They chose their name to signal that Earth is approaching climate tipping points, and that their generation is the last one that can prevent climate collapse.

Born in 1987, Niko came into the world as the only child of a prominent family in the southern elite. He should have been the heir to their kingdom, but his parents had little interest in him, viewing him as nothing more than a means to preserve their family legacy.
Niko's childhood was a lonely one, spent in a grand but empty house. His toys and teddy bears became his closest companions, reminiscent of Christopher Robin's bond with Winnie the Pooh, one of his favorite cartoons.
Amidst this isolation, Camila, a young Mexican woman, served as Niko's nanny and beacon of warmth. She was beautiful and kind, and Niko adored her as the mother he had always yearned for. He followed her around the mansion, sharing stories and questions, forging a deep friendship with her.
As the years passed, Niko watched in anguish as his parents mistreated Camila, displaying cruelty and callousness. He couldn't comprehend their actions but knew they were wrong. When he dared to confront his parents, he was punished and sent to his room without dinner or toys. Yet, Camila always reassured him that everything would be okay, and he held onto her words as truth.
Tragically, one fateful night, Niko overheard adults shouting, and the next morning, Camila failed to appear. Days turned into an agonizing week, during which the little boy cried incessantly, demanding Camila's return. His parents made feeble attempts to console him, but their hearts were not in it. Instead, they concocted a lie, claiming Camila was a criminal who would never return.
Niko's heart toughened that summer. He abandoned childish games and tears, becoming silent and resolute. The boy who had adored Camila vanished alongside her.
Niko channeled his energy into academics and social observation. He excelled at school and soon became one of the most popular students, as he had learned to understand and manipulate people. This skill carried over to college, where he honed the art of influence without cruelty. The pain of losing Camila had darkened his heart, turning those around him into pawns to control.
Despite his manipulative tendencies, Niko found solace in his career. He channeled his experiences with Camila into a vow to defend the voiceless against the rich and powerful. With charm, manipulation, status, and wealth, he took on cases others avoided. This earned him a reputation as the most sought-after defense lawyer on the east coast. While lucrative cases poured in, Niko never forgot his commitment to helping those in need. He established a charity to support Briar Ridge and its surroundings, though he kept this side of his work mostly concealed, preferring the image of a formidable legal shark.
Currently, Niko faces a new battle. Throughout his life, he grappled with a personal struggle, hidden away with no one to confide in for advice or support. He couldn't even find words to describe it. His secret liaisons with other men on drunken nights in bed were a source of inner turmoil. To the world, he appeared as one of the most eligible southern bachelors, yet he feared that someone might discover his truth. It wasn't shame that plagued him but confusion. Fearing exposure, he relocated to Briar Ridge, still that lonely little boy in the big house, yearning to understand the complexities of his own identity.

The Ultimate Guide to Luxury Men's Clothing: Quality, Style, and Sophistication
Introduction
In the realm of men's fashion, luxury clothing represents the epitome of sartorial excellence. Crafted from the finest materials, meticulously tailored, and boasting timeless designs, luxury clothes for men exude an air of sophistication and refinement that is unmatched by their mass-produced counterparts. In this comprehensive guide, we will explore the world of luxury men's clothing, covering everything from the key pieces to the top brands and essential styling tips.
Understanding Luxury Men's Clothing
Luxury clothes for men goes beyond mere garments—it's an experience in quality, craftsmanship, and attention to detail. From the moment you slip into a well-tailored suit or don a sumptuously soft cashmere sweater, you'll understand why luxury clothing holds such allure for discerning gentlemen. With its emphasis on superior materials, precise construction, and timeless design, luxury men's clothing offers a level of refinement and sophistication that transcends fleeting trends and fads.
Key Pieces of Luxury Men's Clothing
When it comes to building a wardrobe of luxury men's clothing, there are several key pieces that every stylish gentleman should consider investing in:
1. Tailored Suits: A well-tailored suit is the foundation of a sophisticated wardrobe. Invest in a bespoke or made-to-measure suit crafted from the finest wool or silk fabrics, and ensure that it fits you perfectly. Classic colors such as navy, charcoal, and gray are timeless choices that will never go out of style.
2. Cashmere Sweaters: Few fabrics epitomize luxury like cashmere. Invest in a few high-quality cashmere sweaters in classic colors such as navy, gray, and burgundy. These versatile pieces can be worn on their own or layered under a jacket for added warmth and style.
3. Leather Jackets: A leather jacket is a timeless wardrobe staple that adds an instant edge to any outfit. Invest in a high-quality leather jacket crafted from supple, buttery-soft leather and featuring classic details such as a moto or bomber silhouette. A well-made leather jacket will only get better with age, developing a rich patina and character over time.
4. Dress Shirts: A collection of well-fitting dress shirts is essential for any man's wardrobe. Invest in high-quality dress shirts crafted from luxurious fabrics such as Egyptian cotton or silk. Look for classic colors and patterns such as white, blue, and pinstripes, and ensure that the shirts fit you perfectly for a polished and sophisticated look.
5. Luxury Watches: A luxury watch is the ultimate accessory for the modern gentleman. Invest in a timepiece from a renowned Swiss or German watchmaker, such as Rolex, Patek Philippe, or Audemars Piguet. A luxury watch not only adds a touch of elegance to your outfit but also serves as a timeless heirloom that can be passed down for generations.

By Gabi Meyers | Last Updated: Feb 27, 2024 | 6 min read Do you still have the workwear jacket your grandfather used to wear around the house? The one that seemed to be resistant to everything life threw at it, made of sturdy canvas with plenty of roomy patch pockets? That coat is a chore coat, my friend, and in 2024 it deserves a place in your closet. Get an article of outerwear with the potential to become a family heirloom instead of settling for the cheap, fast-fashion jackets. There is a chore coat out there just waiting to be the most durable item in your wardrobe, from well-known workwear brands to fresh interpretations of the timeless design. More than just a jacket, it is an investment that will last you many seasons and could even be passed down to your grandchildren in the future. In this guide: What is a chore coat? These jackets were initially made for French laborers and were constructed with lightweight functionality and durability. These days, they go beyond their origins in workwear and fit right in with daily attire. The chore coat lends a touch of rugged charm to any ensemble, whether you wear it with a t-shirt for weekend errands or layered over an oxford button-down for a casual Friday. It is ideal for fall, but it is also substantial enough to wear over any carefree summer ensembles you have not quite let go of. A chore jacket is the perfect piece to change up your everyday chinos and button-down uniform or if you are looking for a casual yet stylish coat to wear with jeans. What colors does a chore jacket come in? Chore coats in blue or navy and various tones of tan have been common in recent years. However, there are a lot more colors available now than there were previously due to the style of coat's explosive rise in popularity. You will see exactly what I mean when you scroll down to the #SGapproved shopping recommendations at the bottom of the post. What material is a chore coat made of? Chore coats are usually made of sturdy cotton or a cotton blend (cotton linen, cotton seersucker, etc.). But since they have become so well-liked, designers have begun to use more inventive fabrics—like corduroy—instead of the more conventional ones. What should I wear with a chore coat? A chore coat can be styled similarly to a denim jacket, field jacket, or Harrington jacket. In other words, casually. Don jeans and a chore jacket. Put it on with pants. either in a boot or a sneaker. This staple item of workwear is not meant to be handled with much care. Below is how to wear a chore coat: Look 1: sneakers and a beanie Can’t you see yourself wearing this on a weekend or to a casual office? Yeah, I can see that for you, too. Look 2: Workwear pants with a hoodie A monochrome look that’s kept from veering into boring territory thanks to the combinations of layers, textures, and those pop of color red socks. Look 3: bright blue with wide-leg trousers Wide-leg pants aren’t for everyone, but if you’re looking to try the trend, this chore jacket outfit is a great place to start. Look 4: denim chore coat Ready to try something different with denim up top? Opt for a chore coat made from the material. Sure, a trucker jacket style will always be in style, but this twist is fun and fresh for 2024. Look 5: olive green chore coat The neutrals combine to make for an easy-to-wear, sophisticated off-duty outfit. Shop stylish men’s chore coats Taylor Stitch Ojai jacket in navy, $188 Taylor Stitch Ojai jacket in smoked olive, $188 Todd Snyder Italian suede chore coat, $998 Banana Republic selvedge chore coat, $175 Bonobos chore jacket in deep port, $139 Dickies-lined chore jacket, $130 Everlane cotton chore jacket, $148 Gap denim chore jacket, $80
