i've seen a lot of people talk about the whole "glitches in the audio means someone's lying" theory, and one thing i find really interesting about that is that apparently there's been only one glitch when lena's talking? which means that there's only one thing she's been lying about, and that's about colin being able to resign.
now, to me, this makes sense. it seems like someone other than lena is in charge of colin's employment, or at least making sure he can't leave. we had both of these lines way back in episode 1:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
so, if the glitch theory is true, the only intentional lie lena has told thus far is that colin can leave. which means
things lena kelley has NOT been lying about:
people (other than colin) are able to quit
she wasn't able to join the others at the bar
she's not particularly wealthy
she's been needing someone to step up to "the real job" for a while now
she does not watch television
the theatricality IS necessary
mr. bonzo is a valued asset
screaming helps (they usually like it)
basically everything she said about the oiar and its purpose in tmagp 13

tma took its sweet time to get into the romance while tmagp is here like “love triangle? jealousy? lingering feelings for your ex-lover? rivals to lovers workplace romance? spooky workplace polycule? buckle in because we’re doing it all!”

I know everyone is freaking out about the whole Celia is from another universe and Alice still has feelings for Sam but no one seems to be talking about what Lena said about the OIAR’s role in the world. She said that there were opposing forces in the world, which matches with the theory that the fears carried over in the same way, but then goes on to say some benevolent, others not. This basically undoes almost every theory about the entities in TMAGP being the same as TMA because not a single one of the dread powers were “benevolent”, at best they were merciful to a very few people as only the web had sentience and thus the capacity to be kind, even if it never was. This means that either the fears have changed their ways, perhaps grown sentience like the web, or they have taken a new form entirely. Think about it, the cases do occasionally match the fears, the flesh and Ink5oul, sort’ve bonzo and the slaughter, but what kind of fear is sh for crazy stonks? Maybe the web or the buried? I’m personally leaning to the “the fears have been so altered that they’ve taken on new forms entirely”, kind of theory. I read a theory that instead it’s desires like greed or a steamy bonzo lap dance instead and they might be onto something. I personally don’t think Jonny Sims would just make it “the fears are back again but now they are sometimes nice!” So he’s probably made some change. Either way our boys are cooking and we are eating good every Thursday.

"Managing the bad guys"?
The computers have started talking out of nowhere, your IT manager had a mental breakdown and is now sneaking into his own place of work, one of your external operators just stole a corpse, two of your employees broke into a condemned building where a man had his eyes ripped out(?) and have possibly unleashed a new and vengeful horror, another one of your employees woke up on the side of a motorway with no memories of how she got there, your externals liaison girlbossed too close to the sun and is in the middle of an existential crisis, and there's still 👏no👏tea👏in the👏break room👏!
The O.I.A.R. is managing bad guys the way I "manage" my anxiety or "manage" my time.

I know some people have talked about it on here, but I am so deeply intrigued by the "some of them are benevolent" comment from Lena. This is such a sharp contrast with Archives, where Gerry explicitly tells us that there's no forces of hope or love opposite the Fears. And it immediately got me thinking about the possibilities.
So discounting the obvious chance that Lena is lying, what is the standard for benevolence? Is it just that some of them are willing to with the OIAR? Is it that some of them are only selectively harmful? Or are there actual, fully "good" entities that we haven't seen yet?
There's a common thread through multiple Protocol statements that my friends and I have been calling "Fortune", the theme that a lot of people are getting some power that warps and twists their desires, initially granting them what they want but eventually consuming them. It seems to have many parallels to an Archives entity: objects of power (dice, violin), servants (dice guy, wandering merchant), and even a root in human consciousness. Would Fortune be considered benevolent by some categorizations? Violin guy certainly profited from it with minimal ill effects.
Regardless, I can't wait to see more of these entities, more of the Externals, and to see how Gwen adapts to her new knowledge of the world.

I fell in love with Alice almost immediately and I loved her sarcasm. Relistening to the episodes, her character comes across a bit different to me. She comes across as controlling and clingy, especially with Sam. She's also dismissive with him, I get that it's her way of coping but she could show some empathy when he's affected by a case? Some of her sarcasm seems more mean spirited than I initially thought. I still love her but she clearly has issues.

3RBC- Transformation (Full), Dysmorphic
1C- ???
2C- Infection (Full), Arboreal
3C- Collection (Blood), Musical

2RB- Disappearance (Undetermined), Invitation

2RC- Dolls, Watching/ Agglomeration (Miscellaneous), congregation
3RC- ???
23RAB - Transformation (Eyes), Trespass
(If the pattern follows, we should be seeing 13RAB and 33RAB, or would it be 21RAB and 22RAB, maybe 12 and 31? I'll have to wait and see)
23RC- Tattoo (Corspe), Compulsion
(Would the same trend follow?)
Base on Alice's explanation, The "R" is just a Dash. Is that important?

one thing i've noticed in protocol as opposed to tma is how (so far) in protocol people are given the means to destroy themselves rather than directly attacked/targeted (except for needles, but we don't know the victim's background, only that it was him who approached needles in the first place)
are these the (in)famous catalysts? something (item/ability) given to people who were already in the path of self-destruction to enhance/accelerate said destruction? is ink5oul an agent and their tattoos a catalyst?
as of now i'm not counting mr bonzo's number at the bachelor party since that was a commission from the oiar to artificially mantain balance or whatever... and i guess i'm working on the assumption that the other cases we know were spontaneous, so to speak.

Seeing a lot of people are putting stock on Lena saying some forces are "benevolent". I know we're thirsty for a good guy power but let's not forget how often the Archive gang was told they were saving the world and all the sacrifices were for a good cause.

tmagp spoilers, CAT123 alchemy theorizing
Tumblr media Tumblr media
for your viewing consideration: the OIAR's logo, showing what appears to be an inverted alchemical symbol of the Philosopher's Stone...
so, let's talk Category 1, 2, and 3, today CAT1 in particular. I think these may be matching to the alchemical primes: 🜍 ☿ 🜔 Respectively: Soul, Spirit, and Body - all seen in the sigil of the OIAR What elements of fear and dread might associate with each of these? Let's start with Category 1. Our category 1 statements so far have been: -Reanimation (partial) -Needles! -Mr. Bonzo! -Mr Bonzo again Or, to approach this from the other angle: what is *not* in the CAT23 statements that is in the above: (Red Canary and the Tattoo (corpse) -/- compulsion) I think there's a strong case for Category 1 being that of Body. The reanimation had a focus on the remains, Needles and Mr. Bonzo are highly visceral. There's a focus on flesh, less so on spirit/soul. In contrast, RedCanary was much less physically visceral and much more driven by emotions and curiosity and desire to know - similar to the other 23 statement. Lena Kelley: "In order for the wheels to keep on turning, all these forces need to be monitored and balanced. That is where we come in."
previously: nice job everybody who voted that the OIAR might be monitoring and maintaining "alchemical" balance! Lena's recent words seem to support that...but who knows if she can be believed~

there’s no canonical agreement over the afterlife in tma, but it’s contradictory given that mr bonzo is a creature that could have only been conjured in the deepest pits of hell

Anyone else feel that the app from Futures and the dice from Rolling With It are in a way the same thing? The specifics of it are actually quite distinct, but they share a very similar plot structure of "gambling man pushes his luck until it bites his ass". If there are distinct entities in this show, then both of these would belong to the same one.
