Review & Rant Concerning MW3 Reboot

**This has Spoilers for MW3. If you have not played the full game and care about spoilers, please do not read.**

To preface this, hi!! I'm Max is a Well, and I am a writer. I have not published any novels, but I do have one in the works. I have written for plenty of people, including some pretty big fanfiction authors [past tense] (not as impressive as most, but I quite enjoyed it), and I have written my fair share of fan artworks, and then a few half published WIPs are floating around the internet somewhere. I've been writing since I was like, 12 years old. I've done it for the better part of my life now, and I've turned some heads with my writing. If circumstances were better where I could pursue this passion for full-time, I'd probably be really well off by now. All this to say, I'm very much someone who knows a lot about writing, story pacing, emotions dramatics and the whole 9 yards.

I love playing games and immersing myself within what's happening in game, and I got that feeling from MW1 & 2, but 3 was just, a little rough feeling. I can't quite explain it, but it just didn't have the same vibe as the first or second. I enjoyed the narrative although, again really rough story telling. (You're gonna get that in games like this that are essentially propaganda for a certain cause or organization, so I disregard most of it. It's the "look this is cool guys! You wanna do this," kind of thing.)

Then, Price didn't let Soap kill Makarov. Standing from a narrative point of view, we were told this guy 1, is extremely dangerous extremist, and threatening to bring WW3 onto humanity. 2, Brass is worried about this, and if they're worried about it, than we need to be too. (This solidifies that the man is a genuine threat, and that he needs to be treated as such. Often this means, a straight up get rid of this guy.) 3, Price and the 141 have some history with Makarov. Then, to build off this, in the previous game, MW2, we literally were on a to-kill mission for Hassan. So if Makarov is an even bigger threat than Hassan, (and Hassan had MISSILES), then, shouldn't we have killed Makarov when given the chance?

Also to build off this, they are all within the SAS, or have passed SAS selection. They are, narratively speaking, the best of the best within their specific branch. They are more than well trained and specialists when it comes to Counter-Terrorism, which with that would come with knowing things like how to properly debilitate your enemy, knock them out, etc. They would have had done interrogations to get specific information and you can't just bring someone awake to a location to be interrogated. You would have to knock them out or debilitate them prior before moving. Yet, they didn't do any of that. Just, knocked his ass to the ground after a stab to the shoulder.

None of it past a certain point makes any sense narratively, and me as a writer is so fucking pissed. They made Makarov a fucking badass and BBEG for the century, yet they kill off arguably one of the best liked characters? Especially after Neil did so much advertising for the fans and even doing the corny Christmas thing that was all over COD TikTok for a few good weeks afterwards. People were going WILD over the Scot, and Ghost.

One thing you learn pretty quickly when creating content, whether it be games, art, comics, novels, etc... is that you got to feed your fanbase from time to time. You give them an inch, and you'll get a mile. No one needed to die within the third game, especially when it felt so rushed. If they really needed the suspense, then they could have easily injured Soap, and kept us wondering if he was alive, and then revealed him okay within the fourth installment. That would have made people buy the game just to see if their favorite was still around, and who knows, maybe they'd actually enjoy the story and decide to play the rest of the game.

What really pissed me off other than the weird pacing of the stretch of the game is the way they reacted to Soap's death. Now, they didn't have to be horribly torn up at it like Price in the original series, in fact, that would be horribly unrealistic. My mother is a hospice nurse, so she's gotten close to a lot of patients that have passed. Some being really traumatic and saddening ways. She can't cry anymore, but she does grieve, and she grieves hard when it's a patient she's had for a while and gotten close to. You can't look me in the eyes, and tell me these three men who have just spent a year and some change chasing down Hassan, and now Makarov, wouldn't show no emotion when it came to one of their own dying?

Soldiers are friends but more. There's a whole reason there's the saying "brothers in arms" exists. They go through hell and back together, they definitely did in Las Almas, and during Chicago in the second game. So to have barely 2 minutes worth of a cutscene to pay homage to a character that they all bonded so deeply with? I genuinely thought people were seriously joking about it, and then I saw it with my own two eyes and I'm appalled on how they thought that was a good send off both emotionally and narratively. It did nothing. It didn't comfort you, it didn't sound like they were grieving too terribly, it was just, flat. Monotonous. There was hardly any emotion in the lines, and the guys didn't have to be crying, but at least put some emotion in it.

Ghost and Gaz arguably in the reboot are the closest to Soap, so some sort of emotion, like Ghost being just a little choked up on his "Rest in Peace, Johnny" would have been just top tier. You would have been able to gauge so much off of that, and it would have fed the Ghost and Soap fangirls so much. (I know some COD players don't like to hear that, but the fandom shifting is a normal thing to happen, and the new people within the fandom are buying the games to play them just to understand the story and that is absolutely helping the studio and the games preform better. To put it simply, they are now also apart of the integral part of keeping COD alive and well.) Or, Gaz instead of just saying the most generic army farewell thing in the world, instead make a personal promise to bring Makarov to his knees himself. Again, it would gauge so much with his character, how he's feeling, what this death is doing to him, and what his personal goals are moving forwards.

They absolutely, from a narrative position could have done so much better. There are always going to be bugs and glitches in games, especially shooters, but the thing that draws people in and keeps them coming back, is the story and the characters. At the end of the day, this was not only a horrible story decision, but also is probably going to hurt them a lot when concerning the next game release. The newer crowd hardly has a reason to come back to see the new game. If Soap, a beloved character was treated this way, how are they going to treat Price, Gaz or Ghost if they die? I'm incredibly disappointed, they had an amazing story, amazing VA's, amazing graphics and design. The COD fandom was seriously getting a much needed breath of fresh air, new life was coming in, and they just tossed everything out the window.

TL;DR:: As a writer, the decision to kill off Soap was extremely horrible from both a monetary and narrative standpoint. It didn't move the story forwards, create any friction, and he didn't even have a decent send off. This is probably going to kill the new growth the COD fandom was experiencing, which in turn is definitely going to hit the studio's pockets. How much is yet to be seen, but I've seen a lot of new-blood say they weren't satisfied and aren't looking at purchasing the next game. Me included.

HSHQ ATTACKS LOUIS TOMLINSON

Last week, in reply to the usual Larrie goading on Twitter, Louis Tomlinson indirectly referred to Larry as "ridiculous childish theories and conspiracies". Revenge from Larries has been swift. They're angry. They're insulted. They're broken-hearted! They're mocking and vengeful. They're undeterred in their Larrying.

In short, they're all the things they always are whenever Louis addresses their stupid bullshit.

BUT!

Other fans of Louis - fans who are definitely not conspiracy theorists and certainly not Larries, oh no! - have uncovered an even darker tale of anger and revenge.

It isn't just Larries who have responded furiously to Louis' denial of Larry.

Harry Styles HQ has unleashed a vicious, vengeful attack on Louis!

That's right. According to seasurfacefullofclouds1, "when Louis does anything to shatter the 'Larry' illusion, Sony (HSHQ, Irving and Jeff, Rob Stringer etc) get very angry".

And how do they deal with that anger? By posting a "disgusting" video of Louis on Sony's TikTok "that is so obviously targeted harassment against Louis they make it obvious that they are the power that causes industry to blacklist Louis".

Now, I am not a skilled specialist in the nefarious ways of HSHQ, so when I saw this disgusting video of Sony's, I confess it wasn't immediately clear to me why it was so disgusting.

According to Louis' fans, HSHQ's tactics are sly and insidious. So sly as to be almost imperceptible to anyone other than the highly-trained eye of a watchful Louis Tomlinson fan. One might ask, if HSHQ's revenge can only be perceived by these LT sleuths, how can it be effective?

BECAUSE IT JUST IS, OKAY??! DON'T ASK DIFFICULT QUESTIONS!

The video in question is an 11-second compilation of clips of Louis from various One Direction music videos, soundtracked by the chorus of 1D's second single, Gotta Be You. It's one of a series of videos Sony posted of each of the 1D members, all set to the Gotta Be You chorus and captioned "It's gotta be Niall", "It's gotta be Harry" etc.

Hmm... the disgusting nature of this video was subtle in the extreme. I needed to refer to an expert.

Gracefullou said, "Sony posted a TikTok about Louis (as a 1D member) and used as a sound the part of that song that he said on aotv he was promised to sing only to find out when it was released they used that man's voice instead".

Aha! The clue here is in the use of "that man" - codename for Harry Styles. And of course - Gotta Be You!

In Louis' documentary, he shared the difficult memory of rehearsing and recording a verse in Gotta Be You, only to discover that his singing was not used in the final recording, and the verse was instead sung by Harry. Now, the disgusting Sony video does not actually use the part of the song Louis was referring to, but no matter! And the fact that the same chorus was also used to soundtrack the videos of the other four members of 1D is immaterial...ignore that part, it's Sony burying the lead! THIS WAS A TARGETED AND DELIBERATE ATTACK!!!!

Look, it's obvious. Harry, the Azoffs, Rob Stringer...they're all "still bitter he survived and is thriving rn".

You may think, but Harry is currently on a break, loved-up with his girlfriend. Why would he care that Louis has denied Larry again?

THINK, SHEEPLE, THINK!!

You may ask, "Haven't Irving and Jeff Azoff just launched The Sphere with a series of mind-blowing U2 concerts? Wouldn't they be too busy to monitor Louis Tomlinson's Twitter?"

WAKE UP! REAL EYES REALISE REAL LIES!!11!!

But, hold on - how would Rob Stringer, CEO of Sony Music Entertainment, have the time to prioritise the blacklisting of Louis Tomlinson in such a carefully-planned, time-consuming fashion?

Height, Age, Rank and Affiliation in Canon

Assumptions based on available or previously available in-game sources;

Previous Affiliations König was originally listed as a German Citizen and a member of the KSK. (German Special Forces - Commandos). This was then changed to match his uniform's flag and he was listed as an Austrian Citizen and a member of the Jagdkommandos. (Austrian Special Forces - Commandos). This was then changed again to remove all mention of real world affiliations. Though as it's been previously stated It's reasonable to assume he's ex-Jagdkommandos as he was an Austrian Insertion Specialist working in Counter Terrorist operations. Side Note - In the Beta König was originally a SpecGru Operator.

Height; While there is no confirmed canon height for könig yet we can make some educated assumptions. He's too tall to be a sniper. Ghost is a sniper (his only confirmed height being 6'2 1/2") so he is likely taller than 6'3". Average height for Central/Eastern European men is 5'10"** we could reasonably assume being described as "the size of a mountain" before the age of 17 would imply he is noticeably taller. I would guess anywhere from 6'4" to 6'10".*

Know that the taller you go the more health problems and inconveniences you find, I would try and keep it reasonable as being over 7ft would incur too many health risk and would probably not pass medical admission. *As much as I dissuade using TikTok - LeeThe4th is a good example of this kind of height. **A local anecdote "I think 6'1" is pretty average personally. 6'4"+ people are not an uncommon sight here"

Age and Rank;

König's rank as a colonel comes from one of two loading screens: Bad Brothers and Bad Brothers 5: Colonel König. Given the gap I'd assume it's more for the sake of parody instead of lore. (Parodying films like 'Brothers', 'Saving Private Ryan' and 'Dirty Dozen' ect) Colonel may have been chosen for the sake of alliteration - I wouldn't discount it but I'm not wholly convinced.

The Loading Screen in question -

If he is a Colonel we can make a few assumptions about his age: General online consensus seems to be that it takes around 20-25 years of service to reach the rank of colonel. However, exceptional officers may be promoted more quickly and promotion to colonel requires a combination of experience, education, and leadership skills. "Officers must also pass a promotion board and meet specific eligibility requirements."

If we want to get country specific:

German Bundeswehr: "- promotion requires a minimum of 17 years of officer's service, i.e. 20 years of service overall"

Austria: Though I can't find a precise number I would assume it's closer to Germany's. He joined at 17 that puts him at 34/37+ which does line up well with other in-game operators.

A warning to Swedes from two top defence officials to prepare for war has prompted concern and accusations of alarmism.

Civil Defence Minister Carl-Oskar Bohlin told a defence conference "there could be war in Sweden".

His message was then backed up by military commander-in-chief Gen Micael Byden, who said all Swedes should prepare mentally for the possibility.

However, opposition politicians have objected to the tone of the warnings.

Ex-prime minister Magdalena Andersson told Swedish TV that while the security situation was serious, "it is not as if war is just outside the door."

Children's rights organisation Bris said that its national helpline did not usually receive calls about the possibility of war. But this week, it had seen an increase in worried calls from youngsters who had seen news reports or posts on TikTok talking about it.

"This was well prepared, it wasn't something blurted out," Bris spokeswoman Maja Dahl told the BBC. "They should have provided information meant for kids when they come out with this kind of information for grown-ups."

Despite the starkness of the messaging, the remarks from the civil defence minister and military chief are being seen as a wake-up call.

He visited Ukraine's eastern front a month ago and Sweden is one of a group of countries training Ukrainian pilots. Stockholm is also said to be considering sending advanced Gripen fighter jets to Ukraine.

"My ambition with this is not to worry people; my ambition is to get more people to think about their own situation and their own responsibilities," Gen Byden later told Aftonbladet newspaper.

Finland has already joined Nato, and Russian officials have suggested it will be "the first to suffer" if tensions with Nato escalate.

How Sweden and Finland went from neutral to Nato

Sweden's civil defence minister said his aim was not for people to lose sleep, but to gain awareness of what was really going on. He appealed to local authorities, emergency planners and individuals to respond.

"If there is one thing that keeps me awake at night, it is the feeling that things are moving too slowly," Mr Bohlin told the Society and Defence conference on Sunday.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called on Sweden during the conference to work with his country and others to manufacture weapons and "get stronger together".

Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson added that in 2024, Sweden would meet Nato's target of spending 2% of economic output (GDP) on military defence, doubling its spending since 2020.

Defence specialist Oscar Jonsson said the tone of the warnings from defence chiefs was something of a storm in a teacup and that 90% of what had been said arose from frustration that too little was being done to build civil and military defence.

"Time is limited and it was aimed at being a wake-up call for agencies, individuals and departments," he told the BBC.

"The Swedish armed forces are incredibly competent, but the scale is nowhere near. The latest defence bill says we should set up 3.5 brigades, whereas Ukraine had 28 when the war started."

Gen Byden's warning to prepare mentally for war comes hard on the heels of a warning a month ago from the head of Poland's National Security Bureau (BBN), Jacek Siewiera, who said that "to avoid war with Russia, countries on Nato's eastern flank should adopt a three-year time horizon to prepare for confrontation".

He said a German Council on Foreign Relations report suggesting Germany and Nato should prepare their armed forces to be able to fend off a Russian attack in six years was "too optimistic".

Oscar Jonsson, a specialist from the Swedish Defence University, said that while war was a possibility, it would require several factors to fall into place: Russia's war in Ukraine coming to an end, its military having the time to rebuild and rearm its fighting force and for Europe to lose US military support.

All of which were within the realms of possibility, he added.

First step

I have access to a computer now so I can write so get ready for disorganized ramblings from me! I know I don't really have many followers here or anything but I think in addition to the usual shitposting I do around here I might like to actual document what I have been going through recently. I came out as no binary almost two years ago and I am just now deciding that I would like to do hrt. I have an upcoming doctors appointment to meet with a specialist in the field. I'm nervous of course and questioning everything in my life because that's just how I'm wired. But I don't really talk about it much. My bestie gets an earful on the regular but there is stuff I haven't even really brought up with her that much. In general I tend to be more of a private person. In my friend group I am the mom, a title I am both proud of and weirded out by. Most days I wonder why people come to me for advice when I spend so much time just rehashing and questioning my own choices lol, Not just my choices even I question my... personhood? I feel so much, different from everyone. I know everyone with even a tenuous grasp of psychology is screaming imposter syndrome right now, I know I know. I have been to many a therapist I know all the labels. But like sometimes I also feel like it comes with the territory to question so much. I mean I can't even pick a gender lol. That's what I question the most these days and what the main focus of this is going to be. My experience with Trans-ing my gender. The closer I get to this appointment the more I start to question my own validity in this space. It makes you wonder like all those people screaming get off TikTok and Tumblr and you'll feel better. What if they are right? What if I am not Trans enough? What if I am taking up valuable space that could be given to another more real Trans person? But then the other side of me says hey logically if you are questioning your gender that much you are Trans enough dork. Cis people don't generally lose sleep over their gender expression. In a seperate but related train of thought I am also worried about what the doctor's reaction, like are they going to deem me Trans enough? Will I pass? It isn't like something you can study for. We will see I guess

I went with Arwen and Marcia (Arwen is an emergency vet, and Marcia is an orthopedic veterinary specialist), and Saoirse and Jasmine (Saoirse is a high school English teacher, and jasmine is an ER doctor).

16) How light of a sleeper is your OC? 

Arwen: Arwen is a pretty light sleeper, though she trained herself to do that because of the nature of her job. Naturally, she’s a pretty deep sleeper and it’s her instinct to snooze her alarm dozens of times before actually getting out of bed. Now she’s trained herself to get up and hop in a cold shower to shock herself awake as soon as she hears that first alarm, or after she answers a call to come into work in the middle of the night Marcia: Marcia is a light sleeper and always has been. As soon as that first alarm goes off, or her phone goes off with a call to come into work, she’s awake. She’s often awake even before her alarm goes off; if she ever sleeps through it, something is wrong.  

Saoirse: Saoirse is a pretty deep sleeper. It’s really hard for her to wake up early, so she has a few different alarms set to ensure she’ll wake up on time for work. Her smartwatch has an alarm that buzzes, she has a couple on her phone at different times, and she even has one of those alarm clocks that simulate the sun rising. If Jasmine is home, she’s usually up before any of Saoirse’s alarms go off, and will check on her to make sure she’s up on time for work. Saoirse always feels kind of silly needing so much help waking up in the mornings but she’s just such a deep sleeper, waking up is hard.

Jasmine: Jasmine is a really light sleeper. She’s often on call and is used to needing to be awake and alert in an instant. On the flip side, if she’s woken up but doesn’t need to be awake, she can go back to sleep pretty quickly. 

17) Can they fall asleep anywhere? Or do they need an optimum condition to sleep in? 

Arwen: Arwen can and will fall asleep anywhere. She has been known to fall asleep in kind of weird places when she’s really exhausted and Marcia always thinks it’s so cute. She thinks it’s especially cute when she wakes her up and Arwen gets a really cute, sleepy, disoriented look on her face and rubs her eyes and goes “oops, sorry”. 

Marcia: Marcia is definitely a “needs optimum conditions to fall asleep” kind of person. She’s pretty light sensitive, so she needs complete darkness (and a cool room) to fall asleep. She’s not as sound sensitive, but if there’s any out of the ordinary sounds happening (an alarm clock, a loud crashing sound, that kind of thing), it’ll wake her up. Light really is the main concern, though. If there’s light, her brain is AWAKE, and unless it’s super early in the morning (before 4 am), she won’t be able to go back to sleep. She’ll often slip out of bed in those instances and go chill on the couch while she has her coffee/tea and reads on her phone or scrolls through tiktok. 

Saoirse: Saoirse is a bit of a combination. She has a hard time falling asleep, so she usually needs more optimum conditions to get there (dark, quiet, cool room), but then once she’s asleep, she’s asleep. 

Jasmine: Jasmine has mastered the art of falling asleep when she can, no matter where she is. Oftentimes when she’s working, she’s only able to grab a quick nap here and there in an on-call room. 

27) Does your OC get any winter illnesses? If so, how badly do they get ill?

Arwen: Arwen gets at least one cold every winter, and gets the flu every few years. The colds are never too horrible, though some years she manages to catch a truly awful one, and the flu is always miserable and always knocks her out. 

Marcia: Marcia gets a cold or two every winter, and without fail, one always turns into a sinus infection. Some years it’s not too bad and she can manage at home without needing medical attention, but then other years it drags, and she ends up needing antibiotics. She is, unfortunately, not super prone to the flu and has only had it a very small handful of times up until this point. 

Saoirse: Saoirse is…a bit of a mess in the winter tbh. Between working in a school and being married to an ER doctor, she gets hit kind of hard. She catches a lot of minor but annoying colds which she can usually medicate herself through, but then she also ends up with the flu most years, and if she’s super unlucky, the stomach flu as well. Jasmine: Jasmine works in an ER and her immune system has been forged through fire at this point lol. She’s usually pretty good at getting through winter mostly unscathed, minus a pretty minor cold or two and sometimes the flu during a really rough flu season.
