I think that one of the point that TT is forgetting is that the players needs to enjoy themselves when they play and also that possession game is all about sudden break of the rhythm. I understand the concept of defensive possession and of keeping the ball from the opponent to be safe but their is a moment when you need verticality, when you have to go for it and to suddenly move forward and this moment is the reward for the players patience, the moment when the adrenalin comes and when they take pleasure in playing. This is important. If the players are too restricted and directed they're not going to take any initiative because they'll be afraid that it's a mistake. If they feel like they have to always play safe they will always play safe and football requires one to take risks and to enjoy being on the pitch.
