The reason Karl is like that is because DreamXD needed a time traveler, Killing a virus is one way to stop it from ending you, So hypothetically killing DreamXD would stop Karl from time travelling for a bit which would then stop the mind deterioration that happens whenever he does

Also prevents DreamXD killing Karl when he gets to that state of amnesia and no longer "Useful"

BTW the last we heard of DreamXD was that he was being weakened.. implies some level of mortality...
