#The phantom is the only character I'm not tagging. Only the first five tags show up in search anyway. But how very fitting. :)

Five comfort characters and five tags! Thank you to @harleyshahas for tagging me <3 <3 <3 <3 <3
1) Batman. I've only just recently REALLY gotten into Batman, but I've been a fan for a long time. My father gave me an old book he had of full of classic comics featuring iconic characters' first appearances. I never got to watch the DCAU on TV bc I didn't have cable, so I caught up in the streaming age, and BTAS is just... so good. Hell, I even named myself Robin for a little while.
2) Danny Phantom. Speaking of characters I named myself after, I tried Danny out for a little while as well. This was another show I watched on streaming after I couldn't watch it on cable, and it worked in tandem with Rise of the Guardians (and tumblr lmao) to help me realize I was trans. I'm so proud that this wacky little fandom obsessed with vivisection is still going strong ten years after I joined it, and I thought I was late to the party back then!
3) Winnie-the-Pooh. I know this is a little cringe to care about a movie for babies, but fuck you. Pooh and his friends are so important to me, both the original books by A A Milne and the Disney movie. They're so innocent and cute, and they've got just enough attitude and dry humor to avoid being unpleasantly saccharine. Go read the books, by the way. They're really funny with a great British dry wit and not at all for babies.
4) Giorno Giovanna. He's so beautiful, what can I say? From the moment I saw him on my screen, I wanted to paint him. He and his friends are so spectacularly weird in such a delightful way. I love pretty much every Jojo character, but I limited myself to picking just one for this list, so I picked Giorno.
5) Bucky Barnes. I don't really care about the MCU anymore, thanks Endgame, but Mister Winter Soldier is different, even if only for nostalgia's sake. I was a stucky true believer back when CATWS came out, and deep down I knew it would never happen, but that didn't stop me from watching their every interaction through a romantic lens. The homoeroticism... off the charts, let me tell ya.
Honorable mentions include: Keith Kogane, Jack Frost, Jolyne Kujo, Kakyoin Noriaki, Bruno Bucciarati, Sergey Razumovsky, Ash Williams, Raven, Pitch Black, Vlad Masters, Superman, Calvin and Hobbes, Dio Brando, Foo Fighters, Kishibe Rohan (there are a lot of characters in Jojo, alright?), and probably more that have slipped my mind.
@sealessmoors @garfyfried @iamnmbr3 @januariat @imsorrybruce2 (and anyone else who wants to do it, really)

What fanfics would you recommend to someone who’s just getting into Danny Phantom? Like your top five
Okay, I've thought about this a bit, and while I don't have a good answer for you, I do feel comfortable recommending a few of the ones I enjoy myself, which I will just list here without further commentary:
All three of the "main series" AU's I have written have updates, and they get updated about once a week. (I haven't written the third main series AU yet, but I will probably post the first chapter today, maybe.)
In addition, I also have a series of four "noncanonical" fics I've written. This is not something I would recommend immediately, but if you like (for whatever reason) AUs, then I can give you recs for four series that are not themselves AUs, in the sense of being the story of the character(s) that would have played that part in the AUs but don't. If you're especially attached to certain characters from certain fics and would like to know if the character is in a certain one of those fics, feel free to ask (I'm assuming it would be in all of them, but not sure).
Of the four series:
1. The Great Mambo, in which Danny travels to the world of Latin America in a story based on my fanfic Mambo Number Five. I don't have a rating on AO3 for it yet -- I'm hoping to get around to writing it for a while, because I want to get into it slowly, but I just haven't yet.
2. A Different Kind of Ghost, where the ghosts in the AUs are human, and Danny moves to New York and discovers that being a ghost isn't all he imagined it would be. All of the Danny Phantom AU fics on AO3 have been tagged as "different kind of ghost fic." This is sort of an "adventure" series, although it's not the only story in it -- it's the setting for a lot of others, for instance.
3. My Little Pony, which is an ongoing series. I don't recommend it immediately, but I do recommend it for people who like My Little Pony, either because they watched My Little Pony or because they have special fondness for that show. It's not super deep, but it has a sort of humor and a nice character design that I enjoy.
4. Kicking The Moon, in which Danny and Maddie are both very bad at magic and fight over who gets to blame the results. If you like this sort of humor. I really like the way this one is written -- it's much more "humorous" than "dry" and that is one of my favorite things. I also really like the character designs -- and the character designs plus the really beautiful art, because those things really make this fic work in a way that a lot of my other fics don't.
I guess that was a bit too much to ask for -- I never really say "here's how you should read this fic" these days, so if I didn't offer you the series recs I just gave you, I'll make it up to you by giving one more set of recs to another series:
(This one definitely counts as "Danny is not a ghost," even if the ghosts are human, so you should read The Other Ghost before reading this -- it's one of my favorites)
5. The Invisibles -- the main character of this series is not Danny but rather a "ghost/villain/antagonist" named Phosphoros, and it's his story. There are many, many, many AUs written for him, which will be marked with an "AU" tag in the directory I just linked, which has a lot of fun and interesting characters (e.g. the "Ghost/Villain/Antagonist") who appear in the various fics but are not Danny. I also want to mention that I think the Phosphoros fanfic (The Red Dragon) is a masterpiece.
Anyway. Hope that was helpful.

20 Questions for Writers
tagged by: @dilf-in-peril
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
13 plus a fourteenth that's part of an exchange and hasn't been revealed yet.
2. What's your total AO3 word count?
25,112
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Right now it's all wrestling.
4. What are your top five fics by kudos?
Despite the Snow, Despite the Falling Snow — American Gods (TV); Mad Sweeney/Shadow Moon
Like it Rough — Our Flag Means Death (TV); Israel Hands/Lucius Spriggs (this one isn't very good and I thought I had deleted it until I checked to make this post. only lands here because it's a big fandom i guess)
Poison on Our Lips — Saw (Movies); Adam Faulkner-Stanheight/Lawrence Gordon (this one's been getting a bit extra traffic now with the Saw fandom resurging)
The Lies We Tell Ourselves — Insidious (Movies); Specs/Tucker (this was never finished. it's also been getting some spillover attention from leigh whannell fans)
In the Dead of Night — The Terror (TV 2018); George Henry Hodgson/John Irving
(my most popular wrestling fic, my collected kinktober fills from last year, just barely misses this list)
5. Do you respond to comments?
I should. I try to. I used to. I rarely do.
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
eh I usually don't write super angsty endings. I guess the Specs/Tucker one is pretty dreary since I abandoned it at a little cliffhanger.
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
excluding orgasms, Despite the Snow, Despite the Falling Snow is my only genuine angst with a happy ending. and it's a pretty cute get-together.
8. Do you get hate on fics?
no, my fics aren't popular or controversial enough for that
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
Yep. Usually kinky stuff, and often stuff I myself find sort of weird. Gotta exorcise it i guess.
Funny enough, I used to write a fair bit of smut as a teen, deleted it all and spent years not writing any, and then it's been naught but smut since 2021.
10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?
no, I don't enjoy reading them either.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
No.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
I'm pretty certain Despite the Snow, etc. was translated into Chinese back when I first posted it but ao3 doesn't show any related works. Maybe it got deleted?
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Nope!
14. What's your all-time favorite ship?
I'm pretty fickle so I usually just stick to my favs in my current fandom. Right now it's CMJF with Joepunk contesting it for #1. My Stormpilot shipping would rear back up with every new Star Wars release so it was probably my longest-lasting ship.
15. What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
My Punk/AJ/Ace Steel fill for kinktober was supposed to be part of a longer fic that never got farther into than the very beginning and that extract I posted.
16. What are your writing strengths?
I feel like I'm pretty good at showing characters' feelings through action, without much internal monologue. I've been told I balance comedy and smut well which. I don't consider myself a funny person but I do like to lean into the absurdist premises of porn i guess
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
Visual description. Partially because I'm bad at it, partially because I think it adds too much fluff and avoid it. Problem is I have a very visual imagination so fics that feel super detailed in my mind end up being 200 words long with no plot, because it's all just mise-en-scène that I can't get on the page.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
I've never really done it but I tend to enjoy when it's there. It may be cheesy but I love a good pet name in the character's native language.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
I dabbled a bit in Phantom of the Opera fic, but really got going in the Hannibal fandom.
20. Favorite fic you've written?
around 2017 I was really trying to make my fics feel ~atmospheric~ and I feel like I achieved that best in Despite the Snow, etc., even if it's partially adapting a scene from the book that never made it to the show (that I know of, I didn't watch past s1). I feel like I'm still plopping around awkwardly in wrestling fic so I really couldn't pick a favourite.

Fanfic Writer 20 Questions!
Was tagged by @lumiereandcogsworth
1. how many works do you have on ao3? None. One completed story on fanfiction.net and a bunch of one shots and drabbles on Tumblr and Patreon
www.trulyhopelessromantic.tumblr.com/fanfics should have most of them linked
2. what’s your total ao3 word count? 0 though I'd love to know what my word count is ^_^
3. how many fandoms have you written for and what are they? Haha well this is difficult to say. Let's list as many as I can remember.
Lucifer TV show
Lethal Weapon TV show
The Old Guard
Us
Beauty & the Beast 1991
Nightmare Before Christmas (crossover with other fandoms)
My So Called Life (crossover)
Harry Potter/Wizarding World
Inkheart series
True Blood (crossover)
Marvel/Avengers
The Haunted Mansion
Digimon
Phantom of the Paradise
Critical Role
Jonah Hex (I think I got a request once for Michael Fassbender in that movie...?)
Sherlock BBC (and Victorian AU)
The Great Mouse Detective
The Nutcracker Prince (retelling)
4. what are your top five fics by kudos?
I'd say my Haunted Manor fanfic is top commented on in my entire life. Find it through @thehauntedmanor coz I'm on mobile and too lazy to go get the link lol
Otherwise I'm not sure. I don't have a place that shows me top comments/likes on my works coz they're on various platforms.
BUT
THIS IS NOT TO SAY I AM WEIRDED OUT BY NEW COMMENTS IN FACT THE OPPOSITE I WELCOME THEM ON ANY WORK NO MATTER HOW OLD
5. do you respond to comments? why or why not?
Always. I appreciate readers and their thoughts and the fact that they took the time to say something makes me smile so I always return with my own response! Granted occasionally I'm blindsided by criticism and it's harder to know how to respond
6. what’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?
Probably my Nutcracker Prince retelling story which had criticism as aforementioned in the previous question and because 1 I didn't know the trope the commenter spoke about and 2 because they were and still are the only one to comment I have lost some confidence in wanting to share that story as openly as I have in the past.
I have angsty fics tho I just thought of that one first. One of my Frankenstein one shots got pretty depressing too. I'm all about angst most of the time despite giving happy endings most often in my larger stories lol
7. do you write crossovers?
Yeah for one shots. Most of mine are quite old though I don't do crossovers very often anymore
8. have you ever received hate on a fic?
Unfortunately. I have been called passive aggressive for asking for reviews after which they tore apart the chapter I'd released. I've had someone accuse me of writing something merely for shock value and in the process also possibly offend a marginalized community. I've had someone call me out for using "inappropriate language" for the disabled community. All of the comments were points of consideration but the way they were given to me shocked me and hit my self esteem a bit.
9. do you write smut? if so, what kind?
Not really though perhaps in the future I may try again. My Daughter of Death story in particular had a NSFW chapter that I released alongside a more SFW one.
10. have you ever had a fic stolen?
God I hope not.
11. have you ever had a fic translated?
That would be amazing but no.
12. have you ever co-written a fic before?
Yep both privately and publicly. The public ones are all listed again on that fanfics page on my Tumblr
13. what’s your all-time favorite ship?
How dare you. My username tells you I cannot choose just one. I've probably written most for Belle and her Prince from 1991 but I'd have to double check my listing of fics haha
14. what’s a wip that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?
Back in the day I started a Digimon fanfic (still on ff.net) but I doubt I'd ever get back to it
15. what are your writing strengths?
Great at dialogue and character feelings and motivations I'd say. I also like to make scenarios make plausible sense so I try to write fanfiction as close to canon as possible which prevents me sometimes from being confident in writing characters that someone else has made
16. what are your writing weaknesses?
I'm not strong with always describing setting honestly lol
17. what are your thoughts on writing dialogue in another language?
I'll do it and mostly when it feels strong to put it in and/or when it's easy for the audience to understand the context of what's being said
18. what was the first fandom you ever wrote for?
Erm probably The 10th Kingdom honestly when I wrote the characters for a "survival story" assignment in grade 6
19. what’s your favorite fic you’ve ever written?
I'm playing favourites with The Haunted Manor because it's the longest fic and the one I'm so proud of and the one people have actually given great feedback for. I reread it myself from time to time
20. who do you tag? (no pressure of course <3)
In this assignment? lol anyone who is interested in taking the time ♡♡♡

I posted this short little fic on AO3 a few months ago, and have now made some slight edits and am posting it here. Post-Dual Destinies, characters featured are the phantom, Simon and Athena. No pairings, 1094 words. They’re nothing but one act after another...
-----
In the performance that constitutes their life, “the phantom” will serve to be their final role.
It is the only role they have left now, and they have every intention of playing the part up until the very end. It’s not them, because they aren’t anyone or anything. It’s just another mask of sorts, a new persona to slip into, one gracefully bestowed upon them by one Prosecutor Simon Blackquill.
It was only once all the physical masks were gone, taken away from them, that they were able to truly take into account this last remaining “mask” they had in their possession. Even if it wasn’t one they could cover their face with, it could still serve as the guideline that they so desperately needed, for without a persona or a role to act out, they’d be nothing.
Prosecutor Blackquill’s attempts to label them and analyse “the phantom” had been a fundamentally misguided endeavour from the very start. There was, after all, nothing to label or assign an essence to, and therefore anything born from his attempts at classification would be inevitably misconstruing reality.
It was precisely this that had allowed a new persona of sorts to take shape for them to inhabit. It still wasn’t them, because they had no self to be, but it didn’t matter. Everyone around them had conjured up an idea of what “the phantom” was like, and those guidelines were all that was needed. It was more concept than persona, restricting and ill-defined, as any vague and illusory projection would inevitably be, but it was enough.
They would become a perfect reflection of whatever Blackquill expected to see.
There was just one thing that was out of place… Blackquill asked them why they were crying. They didn't know they were, but touching their hand to the wetness on their face was enough to confirm it. It's just something that happens - as for why, they couldn't say. It comes and goes. They'd never had this issue before, but ever since their breakdown in court, the silent tears would leak from their eyes every so often, and without warning. It made little sense, as they could perceive no difference in their internal state compared to when the tears flowed and when they were absent.
As far as they could tell, they were mostly back to “normal” in terms of blankness and emptiness – a very good resemblance to how they were before all of this happened, even though something had been a little different ever since their cover had been blown. Something about them seemed to have become fundamentally damaged ever since the breakdown… This much, they could surmise. Perhaps that was the source of the silent bouts of tears that streamed from their eyes. But whatever was broken, whatever the source, there was no use pondering it, as it hardly mattered now - their career was at an end, and soon their life would follow suit.
At some point, even the Cykes girl came to see them. Perhaps it was more accurate to say that she came not to see them, but instead to listen to whatever signals the nothingness contained within them may be giving off. Why bother at all? What was the point? It was likely that Prosecutor Blackquill selfishly wanted to try and bring them into a state where they would be more likely to talk, to provide names and information, which would first require some kind of assessment of how they were at present.
Cykes’ diagnosis, as she gazed upon the Mood Matrix that they certainly didn’t ask her to pull up, was that they were “scared”. If they knew anything at all, it was that this conclusion was not quite right. Death was coming for them in one form or another as things currently were, and they were faced with it from every angle, so the intense fear for their life that they’d felt during the trial had long since lost its novelty. They knew what fear was because it was what they’d felt back then, and what they also knew was that it was not what they were experiencing now. Fear makes sense when there might be chance of escape, when all is not yet lost. But when the worst seems to have already come to pass, what is left is acceptance. What was the point of fearing death now when it was just a matter of waiting for the inevitable to come? There was nothing left for them and their hollow existence beyond going through the motions until the curtains finally drew to a close on said existence.
Cykes had other little theories, too. She and Blackquill would sometimes speak about them as if they were not there. After all, they never said much, only spoke very rarely, and usually didn’t respond to words directly addressed to them.
“I think the phantom… went so long without experiencing any emotions. But then, in the trial… they experienced so much emotion all at once. So, what if it can no longer be stopped entirely? Even if the emotions aren’t being felt on a conscious level… maybe they’d find another way out, and that’s the cause of the crying?”
It didn’t matter.
“Ah!” she had also exclaimed, at some point. When pressed by Blackquill, she’d spoken again. “It’s always been especially hard to use my Mood Matrix on the phantom because, you know… But. I think I got something wrong.”
“Something wrong?” Blackquill had repeated.
“Yeah. The phantom – they’re not afraid.”
Only their eyes moved, looking over at the two of them upon hearing that. Blackquill was frowning, and didn’t hesitate to voice his confusion. "Not afraid? But it is evident to the eye that the Mood Matrix is registering just that, unless my eyes deceive me. Or perhaps you mean to say that there is some sort of fault with its interface?"
“Is it an issue with the Mood Matrix’s display? Yes and no,” Athena replied. “I guess… It’s a little oversimplified, sometimes, and that can be an issue. Usually my hearing helps make up for that and distinguish when need be, but in this case it’s so hard to hear anything clear… The problem isn’t that it’s displaying incorrectly. The problem is how simplified the interface is. I don’t think they’re afraid, I think they’re sad. Sadness and fear are both represented by the same section, so it’ll light up regardless of whichever emotion is being felt. In this case, I may have mistaken one for the other…”
They closed their eyes. It didn’t matter.

Fave Five Characters
Tagged by @letsby and damn, Vicky, this is the hardest one yet! I'm going to have to pick some over the others? 😭
It's okay. I can do this. In no particular order (and heartfelt apologies to everyone missing from the list)...
1. Crowley
Tumblr media
The season 12 finale never happened. Understood? Somebody just needed to give him a hug and tell him they love him, dammit. He's first on the list, but in terms of fandom obsession, he's tied with the next one:
2. Erik, the Phantom of the Opera
Tumblr media
(Showing a little love to Charles Dance today.) Poor, poor, lonely, deranged, homicidal, masked genius! Obsession was only a word until I met you! He definitely needs a hug and for someone to love him, and I volunteer as tribute! (Katniss ain't on this list, but she should be.)
3. Daryl Dixon
Tumblr media
Rough and tough, uber-badass crossbow extraordinarie on the surface. Soft, sweet, loyal, selfless, beautiful human being underneath the attitude. SOMEBODY GIVE HIM MORE HUGS, DAMMIT! 😭 (Am I seeing a pattern here?)
4. Gemma Doyle
No gifs for my girl and that makes me sad. Protagonist of Libba Bray's Gemma Doyle series (A Great and Terrible Beauty, Rebel Angels, The Sweet Far Thing), and the best friend I had through my teenage years. A snarky, rebellious, troubled girl living with supernatural powers in Victorian England. This series probably did more to challenge my ideas of gender roles and related shit than anything else, and I want to hug author AND character for that.
5. Sailor Moon
Tumblr media
The hero of my childhood. My first role model. I wanted to be her when I grew up (and some days, I still want to be her). A forever favorite!

It's me, the fic request anon... I hope this doesn't sound rude, but are you going to answer it? It's completely fine if you don't!! I'm just super curious and I keep checking your profile but it never shows!! :) (Sorry I'm being pushy it's been a few weeks now...)
Wait, who’s rude here again? It’s rather me who’s seemingly ignored you. But it wasn’t like that, I swear! But I guess you’d prefer to see an actual answer (finally) instead of excuses, so here you go! (You have some incredible timing though, like I’d post it today anyway - the joy of having cold) I apparently can’t make a simple list and it got ridiculously long, so I’m putting it under Read more. Does tagging people even work under Read more btw? If not then well, I suppose I failed a bit. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Anyway. You’re probably already aware of this, but I feel I should point out that Kaito is my dearest boy, and therefore pretty much everything what I’m going to mention here is more or less about him. Contrary to appearances it won’t be only KaiShin, but I admit there’s a lot of that. Also, you won’t find here too many long stories, as I rarely read fics with more than 50k words unless I’d started them before they got so long. I mean, I do have quite a few saved and waiting to be read and I’m sure they’re all amazing, but at the end of the day I usually prefer sleeping than night-reading and yeah. Ok, let’s start:
So, did someone say KaiShin? Because you know, Shinichi is my second dearest boy, and when both of my boys are happy together it’s just the best thing. One of first writers who shown and are keep showing me the joy of reading about these two is @rachello344. Many of Rachel’s fics are only prompts, so they are pretty short and that’s a real shame, but they’re still worth reading! I think my favourite stories are these two and honestly I could read them over and over again - asexual Kaito is good, the fake-but-not-really marriage of these two dorks was the best thing and please write more self-indulgent stuff
@lunarscaped (Luna Darkside)’s oneshots steadily get longer and longer but I definitely don’t mind~ Some of the most memorable to me are Penumbra (a.k.a. only Shinichi could write a romance by accident), Darling, So It Goes (undercover mission and more of oblivious Shinichi) and Ease (just. asfadsfgdga) but really, they’re all good
House of Cards is a beautiful story of Kaito taking care of Shin-chan the Dove written by V. Shalyr (how Ai managed to make that pill will forever remain a mystery though); my other faves are With Each Season (it’s beautifull too), Paper Trail (funny short piece in which Kaito is too good at being bad, somebody stop him), Countdown to Forever (good old taking BO down together) and On Wings of White (aww, these two)
Alaena F. Dragonstar’s Win Some, Lose Some and Shadow of a Smile followed by Echo of a Laugh are all good examples of A+ writing. Boys, it will be fine, you have each other. Check the profile for more good stuff~
All ToukoTai’s fics are good, but Life In Technicolor is good, and then there is this Flower shop AU KaiShin Give A Little which includes Shinichi convincing Kaito to become Kid, and if isn’t that ironic
This Little Thing I Have by teawithmochi is a really nice piece - Conan overthinks his situation, but what are annoying phantom thieves for?
solomonara’s Getting Off Track - did I say something about overthinking? This is real overthinking, boys, come on
Almost Magical by ObsidianAbyss got me by this one scene in the class - Shinichi, if you’re trying to deny you and Kid have a thing, you’re doing it wrong
I love the dialogues in dokidokidk’s The Guy Next Door, they will never be not funny for me, plus it’s a nice idea of AU
Good Soulmate AU KaiShin is not bad, and aceoftwos’s Apple Blossoms is good. Also there are locard’s exchange principle series for even more of these two
Beautiful Carvings written by RavenShira is another really nice Soulmate AU. Misunderstandings are strong in this one - lesson: multiple identities don’t help in finding your soulmate
No Ghosts Need Apply by Cursed Detective is a really nice supernatural story, and Shinichi and Kaito are always a big plus for me, obviously. Kaito is sort of dead - the title may suggest as much - but such trivial detail won’t stop him, haha. And then there is a really nice (Not) Supernatural story. It’s ongoing, Shinichi is not a vampire and honestly, I love this and I need more
purple_mangosteen’s Clair de Lune series mean more KaiShin goodness, and also I’m a sucker for Conan and Kid texting each other
joisbishmyoga - I loved Rolling Snake Eyes for a good application of Kidnichi. Will Conan ever stop being so reckless though? I don’t think so. Pluralverse is about minds of three teenage detectives somehow ending up in Kid’s head, and it’s tight in there. It’s interesting, it’s good, read it. Twist the Knife is really intense and the writing is amazing, but it may not be to everyone’s taste, as rape and trauma happen and well
@kawaiibeyotch (kaitothegreat) writes mainly AoKai fics and they’re wonderful, I simply adore Aoko in these. Some nice examples are Live Life in full Bloom and Hello Incognito - these two are good AUs and have I already mentioned Aoko? There are also few HeiKazu stories which I’ve yet to read but I’m sure they’re worth trying, too
Slip and Fall, Obligation, Pride Goeth Before, Philanthropy, Heavy Silences, Never Here, Never Far and Shades of Grey by blinkblink form sort of a series and I wouldn’t make a better summary to any of them than the author, but it’s Kid and the Kid task force dealing with some actual dangers and criminals, there is action and mystery, and it’s really good written and you totally should read it
Nerves of Steel by Ellen Brand is another must read - Robo-Kaito makes a comeback and things get serious
A Perfect Act, No Little Plans, Both Dark and Deep and Forgiveness and Reunion by Candyland - a set starting from sort of cornering Kid by the police and presenting him an offer he couldn’t refuse followed by good action
@backtodc‘s piece about the Kid task force being actually competent when it comes to other crimes is both funny and brilliant, try it
The Cranes by Acier Glace is just so sweet? No pairings here, it’s just Kid making lots of paper cranes to make you believe in magic and did I say it’s sweet? Because it is
miladyFeather wrote the ridiculous The Adventures of Kudou Shinichi, Fast Food Worker which is ridiculous and I have no regrets sharing this one, even if it’s ridiculous
Now a surprise, as Love-Love Daisakusen by neonquincy1217 is Makoko/Sonoko! Where’s the catch? Well, remember Doito Katsuki? *wink*
When I think of quality SaguKai, I think of @5160763 (OrphanText). There is good KaiShin, too, but both examples I’m putting here happen to be SaguKai, so. Anyway. The way Kaito and Saguru are written, I simply love it. And How we begin is so good? Also, In the language of the birds. I read it while it was being put on Tumblr in small fragments and boy, every new fragment was making me so happy
The Hattori-Kudo Files is a set of few cases solved by Heiji and Conan (who could’ve thought that?), written by MeridianGrimm - I believe the last one isn’t finished, but the others are really interesting! And then there are some nice SaguShin and SaguKai fics, too~
I picked five of Mikauzoran’s fics for different reasons but again, I recommend trying all others as well: The Fifth Detective (Kaito’s reasoning is funny and brilliant, he needs a hug though), The Pit: A Romance and Quietly Starving (SaguKai, these dorks), Healing Heartbreak for the Holidays (SaguKaiShin? That’s even more dorks), and Coming to Terms (KaiRan - usually I prefer it platonic but this one really got me, also interactions with Conan? It was a pleasure to read)
Dressed to Impress by Lisa Telramor is a really nicely written SaguKai oneshot, for all your SaguKai needs
Addy01’s When the travel bug bites is a sweet story about Shinichi travelling the world to find his way in life again and befriending some magician thieves along the way. You made me reread it and I don’t regret anything
In case of Operation: Gift Wrap by Boogum I’ll just copy the author’s summary as it’s explanatory enough: ‘Sera Masumi was used to being mistaken for a boy. She was not used to being mistaken for Kaitou Kid.’
Critique written by Eliryn is a short but really nice piece. “Looks just like the real thing, doesn’t it?”
AngelicSentinel’s the suffering of fools was already amazing as a oneshot, so when more chapters appeared one day I was overjoyed. It’s KaiShin and it’s good. Also, the author is one of the only two (look below) which I trust enough to blindly read their ShinRan fics. Like, I have nothing against ShinRan, and I kind of ship it while being in Canon Mode, but I don’t go and read fics about them at all, so this is quite an achievement. Read their other pieces, too, they’re really worth reading!
Cost of Freedom by @mintchocolateleaves? OMG, Cost of Freedom. Read Cost of Freedom. I love both the plot and the characterizations, it’s amazing, read it. It’s ongoing and you’ll suffer because of that, but read it. And while suffering, try other ongoing fics: The Innocence Game, Law Unto Themselves and various oneshots. Like, I can blindly recommend each and every fic Mint wrote, even ShinRan. Cost of Freedom though
Next, Taliya - I recommend all present and future fics. My faves are Without Fanfare (my heart though), Search and Recovery and Recompense (the kind of Kidnichi enactment I approve and aftermath), A Word of Caution (Ai and Kaito as the main characters? Yes, please) and TMPD Antics (it’s simply hilarious)
lucathia’s 4-6-4-9 is a oneshot about Conan getting disturbing encrypted message and trying to find the sender. Oh, and there was some murder, too
A Snowy Meeting (followed by ongoing Hidden Friendship) by angelwingsonline puts Kaito in DC movies, starting from Quarter of Silence, and lets him befriend and exchange messages with Conan. I love this concept
Ichthyophobia’s Mirror Mirror and Two-faced, Half-faced are really funny - the former has really nice interactions between Shinichi, Kaito and the bad guy, while the latter… Let’s say that Kid fixing Subaru’s face is my aesthetic. And then there is Shaking Hands about Kaito not being really able to do magic anymore but getting help and somehow overcoming it and it’s beautiful. And again, check other fics too~
I liked the idea of Shinichi with grapheme synesthesia working in forensics in Number the Stars by The Sand Assassin. Then there are sweet KaiShin fics: Kaitou the Snowman (Akako, stop) and Dakimakura (it’s just a shirt Conan, you’re making Kid sad)
Yannami’s A Criminal’s Fiasco is a good example of why taking Kaito hostage is a bad idea. Poor criminals
@kkrazy256 (kakashikrazy256) likes making Kaito suffer. A lot. In all possible ways. And I really mean that. If that’s your thing, then check it out. And if it is not, there are the mild ones I like coming back to: Early Snow (this was literally my first fic in this fandom, I’m sentimental ok - also Shinichi and Kaito, come on), Mr Barista (Mystery Train aftermath starring Bourbon and Kid) and Sympathy From the Devil (or how could OVA 10 end if the bad guys weren’t so dramatically bad at being bad). As for the rest, you were warned, haha
In Elirius’s Put on a Smile and Take me Apart Kaito definitely doesn’t cope well with his situation. Somebody help him *sobs*
Hostage situation and platonic KidRan anyone? In that case, Irreplaceable by LostInTheDreams is the thing you need. As for other stories, I can only vouch for these with Kaito, but my boy is suffering a lot. Again
Unfair by Frozen-Infinity, but only if you want your heart to break, my boy is dying and this is unfair
StoryWriter369’s Broken Record makes my heart ache every time because immortal Kaito is not what should ever happen, but I’m doing this to myself from time to time anyway *sobs more*
Hebiaczek’s The fox and hounds is an ongoing story and to be honest I’m not up to date, but what I’ve read was a really amazing writing, and exactly the kind of plot I like the best. Because. The plot.
I loved Externalities by 873.25 and I hope Internalities will be continued. Characters are written so well, and both concepts are really intriguing. Try it and you won’t regret it
And last but definitely not least: kittebasu’s A Study in Scarlette - it’s a must-read. There is a good plot, there is Kaishin and it’s truly amazing, and did I say something at the beginning about not reading long fics? So this one is very long and I still read it, so it really does say somehing
I 100% missed at least few people and I’m totally going to regret it later, but let’s say I’m finished. See you in few weeks Anon, haha

Hi, do you have any advice for this unable-to-make-decisions GoH newbie? I'm level 62 atm and just developed 7-star Luminara, and I can't decide what to invest in. (7-star Mace is almost there as well.) I want an actual squad (right now my A-team is Mace, Luminara, Tarkin, Chewie, Jedi Consular), which one do you recommend?
Hello there and Welcome to the Madness! We are super glad to have you with us on our long trek to Rancor/Tank/General Kenobi Domination!
First of all, Congratulations on getting 7* Luminara! YAAAAAY!
She’s fabulous and she stays fabulous for a good long while. She was my first 7* character and I still love her. She’s a character you can level up to a certain point and she stays competitive with everybody else for a good long time. Unlike some characters I am looking at you JK Anakin you pretty, squishy thing you she’s pretty good on her own and mods just make her even better.
Since your Arena team has three Jedi I’m going to make two Suggestion Lists, one based on what you’ve already got and can easily level up and then another Suggestion List based on what’s going to be easy and successful in the long run. I’m not super skilled and well versed in what’s Meta (i.e. what’s popular and super successful in the arena right now.) because I love my Jedi and Clone Sons too much.
But I will try to keep the Meta Game in mind so that later on you haven’t managed to craft some kind of Lovecraftian Horror Zeta Ewok Scout or whatever. XD
I’m also tagging my guild officer @silvergryphon, and my GOH sempai @gffa as well as anyone else who wants to join in the fun! @tygermama, @resistancepilots, @generallkenobi, @dendral, @teapirate, @loverofcake And anyone else who wants to help out and has Thoughts! XD
So without further ado… here’s my suggestions!
JEDI
Jedi are fun because they have lightsabers and do fun flippy things and also LIGHTSABERS ARE PLASMA CHAINSAWS! How is that not cool?
Easy Jedi to Farm
Ahsoka Tano - Hands down Ahsoka is one of the easiest Jedi to farm for. She shows up in the Cantina Store and she has two nodes where she can be found Dark Side 4-C and Light Side 5-D (which has come choice gear on it). Ahsoka can supplement healing for Luminara and she’s also a must have in Fleet Battles. She plays well with others and I’ve often won arena battles where I was down to her and Fives and they made hash of my opponents. Ahsoka is great in mid-game and an excellent addition to your Jedi team.
Ezra Bridger - After Ahsoka, Luminara and Mace, Ezra is probably the second easiest Jedi to farm for. He’s on a low Cantina Node (2-B) and he pops up in the Fleet Store with an annoying regularity. No, Game! I wanted Chirrut Shards! I don’t want Emo Blueberry Shards! Of the Phoenix Squad characters, he’s the one I kill first when I face a Phoenix team and he’s very useful wherever he goes. His bonus attacks can kill Baze and Fives and that takes some serious doing. He also has a ship (Phantom II) so that’s nice for your Fleet arena.
Kanan Jarrus - Okay so with Kanan you’re going to have to balance his availability with whoever else you’re going for in the Squad Arena store but he’s another useful Jedi who can taunt, add protection and debuff your characters. He’s not super easy to get but if you’re going to get the Phoenix Squad he’s tied for second place with Hera after Ezra.
Qui-Gon Jinn - *sighs* Get him. You’ll need him if you want to run a Jedi team. His leadership gives your team speed and he can call assists as well as debuffs. Don’t let my lackluster recommendation of everyone’s Neglectful Hippie Space Dad dissuade you. He’s useful and not hair-pullingly difficult to get.
Difficult to Farm but Worth It
Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker - Oh my precious Rage Baby! So beautiful, so angry, so… squishy? If you’re going to have a Jedi team, you need to have Anakin on it. He does serious damage and he can also inflict healing and buff immunity for 2 turns. He plays very well with clones and Ahsoka. When Luminara gets her heal over time ability, that really helps shore Anakin up. He also has an AOE attack which I don’t think any other Jedi has. He’s only on four nodes (Dark Side 5-B, 7-D, Light Side 5-C and Cantina 7-G) so he’s not impossible to get I am looking at you Aayla Secura but he’s not easy either. Probably just the way Padme and Obi-Wan like it.
Barriss Offee - Eh. Get the murderous wench. She’s the best healer in the game, for a back-stabbing-jedi-turned-terrorist. Like Anakin, she’s not in a store but she’s got four nodes (Dark Side 5-C, 5-E, 8-A and Cantina 6-A). She’s a popular for Zeta when you get to that (and that is still a long ways off for you so don’t worry about it.)
So… uhmm… TL:DR
Ahsoka
Ezra/Qui-Gon
Whoever you didn’t go for last time in the Ezra/Qui-Gon mashup
Jedi Knight Anakin/Kanan Jarrus
Whoever you didn’t go for last time JK Anakin/Kanan Jarrus
Back-stabbin’ Barriss Offee
Holy Crap I went on forever! But onwards and upwards my dear! Here is part two!
REBELS
Because you will need Rebels to compete in all sorts of special events (Empire Themed events, Emperor Palpatine events, the new Territory battles) you are going to need Rebels.
The good news is THERE ARE LOTS OF REBELS. SO MANY REBELS. LIKE MORE THAN WE NEED AND I AM AN AVOWED DISLIKER OF THE SITH/EMPIRE/FIRST ORDER CHARACTERS.
Right now your Squad Arena team is tilted in the direction of Jedi which is fine! I have had my butt handed to me by many a Jedi team before. I swear to the Force Yoda if you don’t leave my precious Wedge alone I am going to reach through the screen and strangle you! But a Rebels team is pretty much required to advance in the game and EA has given you a MYRIAD of options to chose from.
Which brings me to… Easy to Farm Rebels
Biggs Darklighter - Popular recently is a combination of Wiggs (Wedge Antilles + Biggs Darklighter) and Chaze (Chirrut Imwe + Baze Malbus). Now here’s a thing, or two, you need to know about these two combos.
It’s REALLY effective.
It’s kind of a pain in the ass to get.
The good news for you is that Biggs Darklighter is not only in the Galactic War Store (where if you defeat the table you have a chance to purchase up to 15 of his shards a day!) but he’s also located on Cantina Node 3-G and Dark Side Node 4-A. Biggs also has an X-Wing that taunts (I LOVE YOU, BIGGS) and he has amazing synergy with Wedge Antilles. If you can get an omega mat on his Comrade-in-Arms Super-Mega-Killshot attack, he can perform that every other turn. WHICH IS SO AMAZING.
SO.
AMAZING.
So I highly recommend Biggs. Even if you don’t want to run a Rebels squad right now, he is worth it for his ship and that Comrade-in-Arms ability.
Stormtrooper Han Solo - ST Han Solo has the advantage of being both a Rebel and a Scoundrel, which are ANNOYINGLY important in this game. It may not seem like it now but trust me, when you start Mod farming, you are going to need those credit heists desperately. Where is my Dave Chapelle Meme with the white powdery lips and “Y’all got any more of ‘dem Credit Heists?” ST Han is in the same boat as Kanan Jarrus as he’s only available in the Squad Arena store so if you have to pick between the two, go for ST Han while you’re going after Jedi elsewhere.
ST Han can taunt and his taunt is particularly insidious because every time he takes a hit, his allies gain turn meter. I’ve seen him work well with all sorts of teams and I’ve seen him in the top level squads as well.
Princess Leia - Her Royal Highness, the Crown Princess of Alderaan is a beast. On top of her stealth move (which apparently can cleanse some debuffs. *o*) her basic attack “Hair Trigger” allows her fire up to three times in one attack. Remember when I mentioned that Phoenix squad earlier? About the only person I have that is really capable of taking them down to size is Princess Leia. (And Fives, because Fives is indestructible.) She’s also an excellent counter to Grumpy Secessionist Grandpa Count Dooku. She got reworked when they introduced Commander Luke Skywalker so she should be even better now!
Sadly, Our Lady of Sass and Cinnamon Rolls is only located in the Squad Arena store so you’ll have to juggle her against everybody else. I’ve also heard she’s great against Part 4 of the Tank Raid and works well with a team of Clones to form the fantastic portmanteaux of Princess Zody (Princess Leia + Zeta Cody).
Last but most definitely not least is the Baron Administrator of Cloud City…
Lando Calrissian - To call Lando easy to farm is kind of misnomer. He only shows up on two Cantina nodes (1-E and 5-F and for me 5-F had a better drop rate than 1-E) but he’s on Cantina nodes and if you chose to use your crystals that way, you can get probably four to five shards a day for him as opposed to the limits placed on Light Side and Dark Side Battles. I have gotten more but that wasn’t until I opened up 5-F.
Lando is, to put it bluntly, a stone cold mass murderer. Sure he looks all suave and charming and you think, “That man in the open neck blue shirt and that disco-tastic seventies gold lined cape looks charming and harmless! I’ll leave him alone and concentrate my forward power on Darth Vader or Jedi Knight Anakin or something like that.
And then two, maybe three, Lando turns later you’re dead, your party is dead. Your neighbor is dead. EVERYONE IS DEAD.
Not only does Lando have great leadership and a pretty good basic attack, his AOE attack will slaughter YOUR WHOLE TEAM. ALL OF THEM. I’ve seen my Lando take out an entire teams protection in one go! POOF! GONE. ALL OF IT. And then? If he scores a critical hit? (which he does with terrifying regularity when he’s on the opposing team) HIS COOL DOWN RESETS AND YOU ARE DOOMED TO BE PERFORATED BY BLASTER FIRE YET AGAIN.
See? Lando Calrissian: Stone Cold Mass Murderer.
If Lando is paired up with Admiral Ackbar and Ackbar uses his Tactical Genius before Lando, you can perform his ORBITAL BOMBARDMENT OF DOOM TWICE IN A ROW. Lando is the Dread Pirate Roberts of Galaxy of Heroes.
There will be no survivors.
Not only does Lando work great with your Rebels but like ST Han he’s a Scoundrel too so he’ll play well with a Scoundrel team in Credit and Droid Heists.
TL;DR
Biggs Darklighter
Stormtrooper Han Solo
Lando Calrissian
Princess Leia
And then maybe Admiral Ackbar for cleansing and assisting Lando in his mass slaughter of your opponents.
I hope that was helpful, my dear! I wish you all the best in your galactic conquest! Have a great Wednesday and may the Force and RNGeezus be with you!

favorite game from the last five years
I have to pick just one?? oh jeez... I'll go with the one I've played the most since it's release, which is Stardew Valley. it's my happy place game!
most nostalgic game
star wars: racer revenge. it was one of the first games my brother and I shared as kids and we would race against each other for hours. I hear the engine of the podracers and I don't think of the phantom menace at all, I think of racer revenge lol
game that deserves a sequel
horizon: zero dawn, though I have no idea how they could make a more perfect gameplay experience from the original lol
game that deserves a remaster
final fantasy vii: crisis core. my psp never saw more use than on that game
favorite game series
probably final fantasy, though there's still many I have yet to play
favorite genre
RPG all the way
least favorite genre
competitive multiplayer... if that's a genre, it's more like a feature I guess
favorite song from a game
I assume this is a lyrical piece, rather than a track from the score? if that's the case, then "the drunken whaler" from dishonored
favorite character from a game
lightning from ffxiii, my first real video game hero
favorite ship from a game
nyxnoct (assuming that the ship doesn't necessarily have to be canon?)
favorite voice actor from a game
I think I'm gonna go with kari wahlgreen, I loved her before video games and still do
favorite cutscene
the post credits cutscene of lightning returns: final fantasy xiii
favorite boss
gehrman from bloodborne, or the alternate ending fight with ardyn in episode ignis
first console
PS2
current console or consoles
PS2, PSP, Xbox 360, PS4
console you want
Nintendo Switch
place from a game you'd like to visit
whiterun from skyrim, altissia from ffxv
place from a game you'd like to live
bodhum from ffxiii
ridiculous crossover that would be really fun but never happen
borderlands and fallout. they're much alike, but the totally unfiltered madness of borderlands in the already lawless fallout would be like mad max on steroids and that's saying something
book that would make a good game
maximum ride. flying and breaking in and out of labs, add a stealth element for when you don't want to get caught, that might be cool
show/movie that would make a good game
pacific rim. for obvious reasons methinks
games you want to play
too many to list man... the final fantasies I'm missing, maybe try my luck at dark souls? as for upcoming games, the new tomb raider and devil may cry and the ghost of tsushima and like half the games at e3 2018
have you gotten 100% completion in a game
yup! dragon age 2, I think an old assassin's creed... only a couple games, not many
have you ever cried over a game
lightning returns: final fantasy xiii (the whole trilogy means a lot to me so it's ending was an emotional night for me lol) and ffxv was upsetting enough for some salty tears... still haven't played to the ending a second time
what power up or ability would you want in real life
ignis's ability to adapt recipes from one taste
ummm I'll tag @ghostl0rd and @glaivenoct , only if you want to
