The Shag Harbor UFO
On the night of 4 October 1967, at about 11:20 pm Atlantic Daylight Time, it was reported that something had crashed into the waters of Shag Harbour. At least eleven people saw a low-flying lit object head towards the harbour. Multiple witnesses reported hearing a whistling sound "like a bomb," then a "whoosh," and finally a loud bang. The object was never officially identified, and was therefore referred to as an unidentified flying object (UFO) in Government of Canada documents. The Canadian military became involved in a subsequent rescue/recovery effort. The initial report was made by local resident Laurie Wickens and four of his friends. Driving through Shag Harbour, on Highway 3, they spotted a large object descending into the waters off the harbour. Attaining a better vantage point, Wickens and his friends saw an object floating 250 to 300 m (820 to 980 ft) offshore in the waters of Shag Harbour. Wickens contacted the RCMP detachment in Barrington Passage and reported he had seen a large airplane or small airliner crash into the waters off Shag Harbour. Assuming an aircraft had crashed, within about 15 minutes, two RCMP officers arrived at the scene. Concerned for survivors, the RCMP detachment contacted the Rescue Coordination Centre (RCC) in Halifax to advise them of the situation and ask if any aircraft were missing. Before any attempt at rescue could be made, the flying object, with lights still showing, started to sink and disappeared from view. A rescue mission was quickly assembled. Within half an hour of the crash, local fishing boats went out to the crash site in the waters of the Gulf of Maine off Shag Harbour to look for survivors. No survivors, bodies or debris were taken, either by the fishermen or by a Canadian Coast Guard search and rescue cutter, which arrived about an hour later from nearby Clark's Harbour. By the next morning, RCC Halifax had determined that no aircraft were missing. While still tasked with the search, the captain of the Canadian Coast Guard cutter received a radio message from RCC Halifax that all commercial, private and military aircraft were accounted for along the eastern seaboard, in both Atlantic provinces and New England. The same morning, RCC Halifax also sent a priority telex to the "Air Desk" at air force headquarters in Ottawa, which handled all civilian and military UFO sightings, informing them of the crash and that all conventional explanations such as aircraft, flares, etc. had been dismissed. Therefore, this was labelled a "UFO Report." The head of the Air Desk then sent another priority telex to the navy headquarters concerning the "UFO Report" and recommended an underwater search be mounted. The navy, in turn, sent another priority telex tasking Fleet Diving Unit Atlantic with carrying out the search. Two days after the incident had been observed, a detachment of navy divers from Fleet Diving Unit Atlantic was assembled and for the next three days, they combed the seafloor of the Gulf of Maine off Shag Harbor looking for an object. The final report said no trace of an object was found.

Tall Whites Alien Conspiracy
Alright, the first (of hopefully many) post in which I research a conspiracy theory is here! It’s a bit lengthy so stick with me....
Tumblr media
The Tall Whites are one species of extraterrestrials most famously known for their earthly presence being outed by American veteran Charles Hall in 2009 and Canada’s Paul Hellyer in 2017. ‘Tall Whites’ are also seen to be referred to as the ‘Nordic Aliens’ or the ‘Blonde Aliens’, but for the purpose of this post, I will stick with Tall Whites. The name implies that these extraterrestrials possess a taller stature than man, but most of the interactions showcase that they average a height of about 5’10” to 6’5” (155cm to 198cm) with an ability to grow up to 8’ (~244cm). They are described to have white skin, long and straight blonde hair, and impossibly blue eyes. They are believed to be working with the US government, and according to Charles Hall, who claims to have spent two years among them at Nellis Air Force Base, “They have large blue eyes that wrap part way around their heads, small noses and tiny ears pressed tight to their scalps. Their thumbs are small with four long slender fingers. Their skin is completely white, like chalk. They all have thin, straight blond hair. Their hips are shaped liked ours, but they walk quite differently since they are used to a stronger gravity pull” (source here). Hall also claims that their lifespans are much greater than ours (about 800 years), but because of this it also takes them much longer to heal from injuries. Their circadian rhythm is also different from ours because their home planet, which is believed to be somewhere near the start Arcturus, has longer days. It’s estimated that 4 earth days are equivalent to 1 day on their home planet, meaning that they are awake for roughly 2 earth days and then sleep for almost as long (lol literally me tho)
Tumblr media
Now, about the two whistleblowers mentioned above- Charles Hall. Hall is an American nuclear physicist, ex-military, weather specialist that worked on the Nellis Air Force Base located near Las Vegas, Nevada (similar to the notorious Area 51). Hall worked on the air force base from 1965-1967 and claims to have been in close contact with the extraterrestrials living on the base. He later wrote a series of books based on his experiences, but initially told the public that they were science fiction. He claims that he did this so that his children could complete school without the public’s perspective on their father holding them back. While it is shocking at face-value that nuclear physicist who worked for the US Air Force is claiming that there are extraterrestrials living on earth, there are tons of skeptics, and with good reason! The community and research field of alien life has been flooded with hoaxes and con men from the beginning, and some believe that Hall is one of them. People who have read his book have critiqued that there are many scenarios in the book where he seems to be boasting of his own skills or understanding he seems to have with this alien race. Why would he lie, though? Why would he risk his reputation? Reddit user CaerBennog explains, “Maybe he wants to be the centre of attention. Maybe he requires validation for his rich fantasy life…”. The issue with Hall’s claims is that his books are written purely on his experiences. While insightful, he offers no way of proving or validating his claims. While this could be an attempt to remain safe (look at Snowden hiding in Russia), I would take his claims with a grain of salt.
Tumblr media
The second person I will discuss is Paul Hellyer. Paul Hellyer served as Canada’s Minister of National Defense from 1963 to 1967 and has long claimed to be a believer in the existence of the Illuminati and extraterrestrial visitation on earth. He claims that there are 80 different species of aliens and that 4 of them walk among us here on earth. He even goes so far as to say that the Tall Whites works with the US Air Force in Nevada, seeming to corroborate the claims of Charles Hall. Hellyer is by far the highest ranking government official to make these claims, which people tend to see as proof of his credibility. In his speech, in which he claims to be unearthing government secrets, he says that during his service a few UFO reports had come across his desk. Exciting right? Wrong. At the time, he says, he was too busy to really look at them. Then he was asked about two cases of extraterrestrial interaction with the human race, both of which occurred in 1967. The first was the Malachek case. On May 20th of 1967, Stefan Michalak claims to have been badly burned by the exhaust port of a UFO, which at the time he believed to be an American aircraft. A few months later, on October 4th, there was reports of a large impact of a UFO (in its most literal interpretation of the title) in the waters near Shag Harbor. Both incidents were investigated by the Canadian Armed Forces at the time, but Paull Hellyer claims that he did not know about these incidents at the time. A little sus in my own opinion,
Tumblr media
but I’ll leave the information for you to decipher yourself! You can listen to his claims straight from his mouth here. What do you think? Do you think this alien race is real? And not only that, do you believe they could be working with the United States? Most importantly, what could their motives be for working with us? Let me know your thoughts!
This is your fellow conspiracy theorist signing off. Keep questioning x

THE SHAG HARBOUR UFO INCIDENT (2000) / ALIEN CONTACT: THE PASCAGOULA UFO ENCOUNTER (2020)
The Amazon Prime algorithm served these up, so I really had no choice.  They’re each only about an hour long…how bad could it be?
Tumblr media
The first, “The Shag Harbour UFO Incident,” is a year 2000 documentary about the 1967 sighting of the same name. Production values and the format are vaguely reminiscent of “The X-Files” (the original series, 1993-2002), as we follow two articulate local gents as they discuss the incident.  There are eyewitness accounts, shaky video camera recreations, and even pages from a comic book about the incident, all covered over with annoying filters.  (Basic story: a UFO crashed into the  water.)  THEN we suddenly switch over to the purported military cover up, which ties in to “Majestic 12” (naturlich), and then that flows into a discussion of how the crashed UFOs (now there are two of them!) moved underwater to a harbor right off a Canadian military base. A Soviet sub approached because it wanted in on the action.  The Canadians moved to intercept, and the UFOs made their getaway!  How do we know all this?  Unidentified military personnel told us!  But they won’t go on camera, so it’s just hearsay.
Okay, fine, I kind of wasted an hour, but at least the show was mildly entertaining.  We even have some commentary by the late Stanton Friedman, who was a staple on these types of programs for a very long time.  I imagine that this was on FOX during that era. Maybe I even saw it then.  Who knows?
Tumblr media
The second selection, “Alien Contact: The Pascagoula UFO Incident,” is a new production.  It’s basically a homemade documentary by a guy as he drives around and talks to people involved in the incident.  (In 1973, two dudes were abducted off a pier by weird robot aliens with spikes protruding from their heads.  One states he was then examined by a female gray ALIUM!  Shit!)  We have a cheap computer recreation of the incident.  I mean, like, really bad computer graphics.  Then the narrator interviews some folk who saw a UFO that same evening, and they seem sincere.  He then talks to the surviving abductee, and I kind of stopped after that went on for a while.  It just…wasn’t that interesting.  I fast-forwarded through the rest and I guess everyone gets together around a table and talks some more, so I don’t imagine that I missed much by skipping that.  Oh, and the abductee is hypnotized by Bud Hopkins, another famous (and now dead) UFO researcher, and I note that the versions of the abduction story are very different between what he tells Hopkins and what he tells the narrator.  Anyway, if you’re really, really interested in the incident, you’ll probably watch this.  Otherwise, pass.  Please, pass.

'We Saw Something. Something Came Down': The Shag Harbour UFO Sighting, 50 Years Later
The first frantic callers to reach the RCMP were clear: something had crashed in the waters off Shag Harbour, N.S.
It was around 11 p.m. on the night of Oct. 4, 1967. Most witnesses thought it was a doomed aircraft.
Among those who saw the string of flashing lights on that clear, moonless night were three RCMP officers, scores of fishermen and airline pilots flying along the province’s rugged southwest coast.
But a series of searches turned up nothing. No wreckage. No bodies. No clues as to what really happened that night 50 years ago. A Halifax-area man later uncovered a trove of government and police records that would make the Shag Harbour incident Canada’s best-documented and most intriguing UFO sighting. Did Canada Just Admit UFOs Are Real With a New Coin?
The Canadian government has issued a limited edition glow-in-the-dark coin to commemorate one of Canada’s most important historical events: a UFO crash.
The Royal Canadian Mint has produced 4000 coins an event where the townspeople and fishermen of Shag Harbour witnessed a large luminous object crash into the water just off the coast of Nova Scotia, Canada.
Local RCMP officers were alerted by residents during the night of October 4, 1967 that an airplane crashed into the waters just outside the town’s harbor. Witnesses told the local press at the time that a large bright object was seen flying over the town for nearly an hour until the object fell out of the sky into the water. Fearing the worst, the RCMP officers and the local fishermen immediately launched a search and rescue operation.
“The RCMP commandeered fishing boats to facilitate a ‘rescue’ of what they thought was an aircraft that had crashed, but when they reached the site, a strange patch of glowing yellow foam was found floating on the surface,” author Chris Rutkowski told Motherboard.
Rutkowski, an author of several books on UFOs has studied the Shag Harbour case at length.
“It's another case where there are official documents that testify to the reality that something occurred. RCMP investigated at the time, and their report is available for examination. Further, the large number of witnesses, some of whom are still alive today and can still vividly recall the incident, support the case that a brightly illuminated object flew over Shag Harbour and then a ‘dark object’ was observed floating on the surface of the ocean,” Rutkowski said.
“The Canadian Navy was asked to send in divers to retrieve whatever was under the water, but the official story is that nothing was ever located,” Rutkowski said. “Nevertheless, rumors abound, and locals insist that the US Navy, which had ships not far away, sent in its own divers and did indeed find and retrieve something from the floor of the ocean.”
The colorful coin depicts three fishermen aboard a boat in rough water pointing to four eerie orange lights hovering in the sky. The coin comes with a black-light flashlight that when shone on the coin, a large shadowy flying saucer appears over the fisherman’s heads as it crashes into the water.
The pure silver rectangular coins went on sale for $129.95 each on Tuesday morning. Within hours, the Mint had already sold 95 percent of their stock.
Last year, the Royal Canadian Mint released a coin to commemorate the Falcon Lake UFO Incident, and much like the Shag Harbour coin, sold out quickly.
According to Rutkowski, this second coin “seems to suggest the Canadian government recognizes the importance and popular interest in the UFO phenomenon. It will be interesting to see if more in the series are struck in years to come.”
Does this mean that the Canadian government is following the lead of its neighbour to the south, the United States, by openly admitting that unidentified flying objects are real phenomena?
Jordan Bonaparte is the host of the paranormal-focused “Nighttime Podcast” and a resident of Halifax, Nova Scotia, roughly two hours away from the tiny Shag Harbour. He admits that UFO researchers have long sought more answers to the Shag Harbour mystery.
“The years worth of UFO festivals, books, and documentaries may not have compelled Prime Minister Justin Trudeau or his dad to open the curtains of secrecy, but it did convince the Royal Canadian Mint to put some fisherman pointing at a UFO on a rectangle glow-in-the-dark coin and to me that’s pretty damn neat,” Bonaparte told Motherboard.
While the Canadian government has remained relatively quiet on the UFO matter compared to the United States, Bonaparte is pleased with the renewed attention this coin may bring to Shag Harbour.
“Nova Scotia has always been marketed as a mecca of scenic look offs, lighthouses, and lobster traps,” Bonaparte said. “If that’s what tourists want, great, there is also plenty of drying paint to watch, but as a local, I’m proud to say I live next door to the world’s most compelling UFO event.”

Sunday Mysteries: Beware of USOs
Tumblr media
If there are intelligent beings on planets so far away that we haven’t discovered them yet and they are watching us, then their technology must be far more advanced than ours. So forget those saucer-shaped tin cans people kept photographing during the 1950s and 60s, as they clearly couldn’t have travelled that kind of distance. Even so, it does lead you to wonder where minds immeasurably greater than our own would hide an observation post to keep a closer eye on us human beings. It occurred to me that, following the first lunar landing (assuming you believe Neil Armstrong walked on the moon in 1969), we have a pretty good understanding of everything within 240,000 miles of our planet, and obviously, thanks to the Hubble Telescope, way beyond, but we still know very little about things that are right under our noses. Consider the oceans, for example. The furthest-reaching submarine was the remote-controlled Japanese Kaiko surveillance sub, an unmanned craft designed for deep-sea observation. The Kaiko could reach depths of nearly 38,000 feet, which sounds impressive initially until you work out that comes to a grand total of just under six miles.
Tumblr media
So we can see, thanks to the Hubble Telescope, a distance of between thirteen and fourteen billion light years upwards, but only six miles downwards. Now, we already know that unless you are Bigfoot or the Loch Ness Monster there is nowhere on earth to escape the long reach of satellites or modern radar systems so, if I were an alien capable of travelling thirteen billion light years to come and spy on us, I would also be clever enough to set up home underwater, happy in the knowledge that nobody would find me. Better still, directly underneath one of the polar ice caps. So that led me to research unidentified submersible objects, the deep-sea version of UFOs. My attention was quickly drawn to a small port on the southern coastline of Nova Scotia in eastern Canada. But I’d like to point out that this had absolutely nothing to do with its name. Shag Harbor is normally a very quiet place but on 4 October 1967 it suddenly became a hive of activity. At 11.20 p.m. a group of eleven people watched as a low-flying object suddenly veered downwards at an angle of forty-five degrees and plunged into the water. Some reported a bright flash of light as it hit the surface, while others claimed they saw four or five glowing orange lights. Laurie Wickens, a Shag Harbor native, jumped on to the harbour wall to get a better view and said he saw the UFO floating on the surface with a strange orange light glowing on top of it. Believing it was an aeroplane crash, residents immediately called in the Canadian Mounted Police who were then joined by the US military, suspiciously quickly. Within half an hour, local fishermen had put together a civilian rescue team and were already at the scene of the accident. But they were puzzled to see no signs of any debris, wreckage, oil or bodies – only a large patch of foaming yellow bubbles. When one of the men attempted to take a sample by dipping his net into the water, the bubbles failed to attach themselves and the net always came up clean. By the following afternoon, the authorities were satisfied that no aircraft had been reported missing and the area was sealed off while divers combed the area for clues. The official report of the incident revealed nothing, although it was later leaked that a second, identical craft had soon joined the first under the water and that, after a short delay, they both rose to the surface and zoomed away. Thirty years later, one of the navy divers, interviewed for a television documentary, claimed the US military had monitored the two USOs for several days before losing contact with them. To this day nobody knows what happened at Shag Harbor, although the sheer number of witness statements – all consistent in timing and in their descriptions of the size, colour and speed of the craft, coupled with the evidence of the yellow foam observed by most of the initial rescue team – would appear to provide credible evidence of a kind of underwater USO activity that had never been seriously considered before. And the events at Shag Harbor are by no means the only sightings. During the prolonged Cold War (which followed the very hot Second World War), many submarine commanders reported tracking mystery underwater vessels, often in Norway and other Scandinavian countries, that, when cornered in one of the fjords, would mysteriously vanish. On 4 September 1957, the Daily Telegraph reported that three uniformed police officers had witnessed a red, circular USO emerging from the depths of the Bristol Channel and taking a westerly route towards Wales. In the Lake District many sightings of USOs have been reported since the 1980s and on one occasion during 1994 twenty-two people reported observing two underwater craft at Derwent Water for five minutes before these disappeared without trace. The Lakes now receive as many as one sighting every year, the latest being in December 2004, leading to suggestions that beings from outer space have set up an observation post beneath their tranquil waters. One sighting in 1977 was independently confirmed by no fewer than ten policemen. Soon after midnight, on 28 August, officers claim to have witnessed a large diamond- or triangular-shaped object close to Lake Windermere, the largest natural lake in England. PC David Wild was the first to spot the strange craft and he watched it hover above the A592 at 1,500 feet for twenty-five minutes before it vanished before his very eyes. Two other officers also witnessed the same phenomenon some distance away and John Platt described seeing what looked like a ‘massive sea-going catamaran with two hulls’, adding that the ‘surface was a dull, charcoal colour and giant lights were mounted on the front’. Which sounds exactly like a catamaran with headlights to me. But despite Windermere being such a vast body of water, it is only 220 feet deep – hardly the best place in the world to hide a colony of aliens.
Tumblr media
More recently, the Dutch submarine Bruinvis (yes, the Dutch do have submarines) reported an underwater collision with a ‘solid object’ on 19 October 2001. Most of the crew clearly heard the noise and the sub limped back into port for emergency repairs. Navy divers later confirmed damage to the underside of the vessel. But it was in August of the previous year, in the same stretch of waters off the Norwegian coastline, that one of the world’s worst submarine disasters took place, the sinking of the Russian vessel the Kursk. Could it have been involved in a collision with a USO? The Kursk, flagship submarine of the Russian Northern Fleet, was proudly launched in 1995. But less than five years later, the world held its breath when the Russian authorities announced that an accident had caused the submarine – with 118 men on board  – to sink to the bottom of the ocean. One team of rescuers reported that major damage to the front section had rendered the escape hatch useless, but that there were also deep gashes along the side to the fin at the rear, suggesting the cause of the accident had not been an explosion, as was first though, but a collision with an unidentified object. But neither the US nor the Royal Navy, who also had submarines in the area, were able to report a collision with any of their own craft. Furthermore, the Kursk’s periscope and external masts were fully extended, suggesting that the submarine had been operating within ten metres of the surface when it was struck as these sections of the vessel are always fully retracted, even during emergency dives, in deeper water. Who can forget the rescue team’s harrowing reports of the hammering made by the surviving sailors as they tried in vain to save them? The subsequent salvage operation revealed that at least twenty-three men had remained alive for many days in the dark and cold, hoping for a rescue that never materialized. When the craft was eventually brought to the surface, it was revealed that a neat circular hole had been punched into the side, unlike the damage made by a torpedo or collision with another submarine, and the front section was almost completely torn away. To this day nobody knows what collided with the Kursk, although the rescue teams later described some green and white marker buoys bobbing on the surface that then mysteriously disappeared. (The buoys are used for alerting passing vessels or aircraft that an accident has occurred; Russian vessels only use red and white rescue buoys, however.) Russian sources later confirmed that when the Kursk was eventually located there was a second, large, object lying next to it on the seabed, which slowly moved away and then disappeared altogether. For weeks afterwards, Russian attack submarines and warships of the Northern Fleet closely guarded the entire area. But whatever it was that sank the Kursk, with the loss of 118 lives, remains unknown to this day. And it’s not just in northern waters. The Japanese deep-sea submersible the Kaiko mysteriously disappeared in May 2003 in the Pacific Ocean close to Japan after the steel cable attaching it the mother ship, the Kairei, inexplicably snapped, and it has never been seen since, leading to all kinds of speculation about mysterious forces lurking deep in our seas. But I have the same problem with USOs that I have with all UFOs. If there are life forms from other galaxies that have found planet earth and discovered it inhabited by, in some areas, intelligent life, then why
Tumblr media
don’t they just land, shake hands and introduce themselves? If we were to discover life on Venus, for example, would we buzz around their planet scaring the crap out of everybody living there? I doubt it very much; I expect we would do what the great adventurers of the past centuries have done when they discovered new lands. And that is to introduce themselves politely to the natives and then steal all their diamonds and oil. They wouldn’t lurk around for decades first, would they? They’d wade straight in. Unless of course, as I have long suspected, there is a vastly superior race out there somewhere who expelled the underclass of their own planet, (humans) onto another (earth) to stop us from breeding with their own kind. Casting humans out to a sort of penal colony for the stupid, on a faraway planet, may have been a good idea 100 million years ago. Whilst their own race continued to advance at a rate immeasurably more superior to our own, we humans were left to interbreed and suffer the consequences. And every once in a while they send observers to make sure we remain at least 100 million more years behind them. What? Why is that such a bad idea? It would explain evolution and it would explain why we have a planet full of stupid people. It would also explain periodic UFO sightings and perhaps even crop circles. Unless, of course, you still believe in all that God nonsense. But even then my explanation is no more ludicrous than yours – Is God a Spaceman? - Albert Jack Albert Jack AUDIOBOOKS available for download here
