Buying a Mattress? Here are a few tips and "rules of thumb."

First things first, there is no such thing as a "best mattress" because we are all different. Our body's shape is different, our injuries are different, and our budgets can also vary. So to ask, "what's the best mattress?" can be tricky... instead I will give you tips and a few "rules of thumb."

Always get something a bit firmer (harder) than what you want. When people go into a furniture store, they usually lie on mattresses for less than a minute, and because of this, "Showroom Mattresses" have never been broken in. So, whatever you take home will feel softer in a few months of use compared to how it felt at the sore.

It's all about Coil Count. If you are buying a mattress containing coils, you need to ensure you get the most coils for your money. The infamous bed of nails is the analogy I love to use while explaining this. A person can lay on a bed of nails for long periods because of the weight distribution among the nails. If we were to remove half of the nails, the story would be much different. So, the same logic is applied to the mattress world. The more coils in the mattress, the less weight on each coil; the less work each coil does, the longer a mattress will last.

Buy a bed that's over your budget. How? You can use some financing. Regardless of what some might say, this is the best advice I will give you. If you're planning on spending $1,000.00, spend double. Give that money as a down payment and finance the other half. Why? Because sleep is essential. How we sleep determines how we feel and perform during the day. Simply put, after a horrible night's sleep, you'll have a sh* ty day. The great rest will give you more energy, and you'll be thankful to have invested in a good bed.

The last one is to shop on foot and buy online. I know my furniture friend out there will hate this one. There are three steps for this one.

First, go online and research. Get familiar with brands and technologies. Whichever brand it is you feel is for you, go to their website and find stores near you.

Secondly, Go to the store you found and try out the mattresses. Take your time and lay on them. Stay on each of them for a good 5 to 10 minutes.

The Last thing to do is shop online. Online stores have better prices 80% of the time, especially on holidays. See if they have trials. Some companies offer a 90 to 180-day trial where you can exchange or return it if you don't like it. Please do your research; you'll find them.
