China Telecom Unveils Commercial Launch of Cutting-Edge 5G Messaging

China Telecom Launches 5G Messaging into Commercial Service

On January 25th, China Telecom officially launched 5G messaging as a commercial service. The company held a conference to announce that 5G messaging can now be utilized by enterprises and individuals on a paid basis.

This follows similar moves by rival China Unicorn, which began trial commercial use of 5G messaging nationwide on November 8th, 2021, offering free introductory packages. China Telecom's vice general manager Tang Ke stated that 5G messaging serves as an upgraded version of traditional texting, and can become a key basic service for telecom operators' business-to-business and business-to-customer segments.

Regarding the development of 5G messaging, Tang believes there are three priorities:

1. Strengthen promotion efforts to quickly gain scale and establish 5G messaging as a new digital platform.
2. Leverage integration with technologies like cloud, AI, big data and blockchain to empower various industries.
3. Collaborate across partners to jointly build and share the 5G messaging ecosystem, which analysts forecast could generate over one trillion yuan annually.

In addition to China Unicorn and China Telecom, rival China Mobile had briefly launched a "5G Messaging" app previously just to secure the brand name, but has not specified commercial rollout timing. 5G messaging is considered one of the fastest deployed 5G applications based on GSMA standards.

Much like an upgraded version of texting, 5G messaging allows sending pictures, videos and more like WeChat, or buying tickets/making purchases. The three major carriers outlined strategies in a 2020 joint white paper.

China Telecom will offer individual and enterprise-focused 5G messaging services. Individual usage will be free to receive, priced like SMS for sending, with standardized package options. Enterprise solutions can reduce customer acquisition costs, with flexible fee structures for different message types.

The company aims to expand terminal compatibility and forge industry partnerships to boost the 5G messaging ecosystem nationwide.

Telcos to govt: Direct spectrum for private networks distorts level playfield
Telcos to govt: Direct spectrum for private networks distorts level playfield
In the ongoing war of words between the telecom operators and technology players over the direct allocation of spectrum for private networks, the telcos have written to the government that administrative allocation of airwaves to private networks gives tech players a backdoor entry to provide 5G services to enterprises. How to Choose a Suitable MVNE to Establish Small-scale MVNO?
Tumblr media
The Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) market is likely to grow steadily during this post-pandemic era. Operators can run and maintain the business with a low OPEX because they don’t need to build the high-cost infrastructure.
Actually, most new gamers always start from a small amount of subscribers. It's better for them to work with local MVNEs to rapidly get established in the telecom market.
What is MVNE?
Mobile Virtual Network Enablers (MVNE), a third-party provider, provides network infrastructure and resources to facilitate the rapid launch of MVNOs, building a bridge between host MNOs and MVNOs.
It allows MVNOs to deliver network services to their subscribers by reducing the entry barriers of MVNO businesses.
Choose a suitable MVNE
To choose a suitable MVNE and cooperate with it, you can consider these aspects: 1. Successful use cases: study the use cases that MVNEs helped before to clearly know about what they’ll help in your project 2. Professional experience: learn more about the background of MVNEs to estimate whether they’re proficient enough 3. Resources: ensure they can provide reliable network resources to you, enabling you to provide stable services for your subscribers with robust backup 4. Budget estimation: figure out whether you can receive the resources with a low budget ...
Use MVNEs to start MVNO business with small amount of subscribers
As a start-up MVNO, cooperating MVNEs enable you to access to MNO networks and manage subscribers and services in an efficient system with their previous experience.
It can also reduce the OPEX because MVNE enables the MVNO to outsource the MNO integration as well as the operation management.
Build your own core network with IPLOOK
After you gradually accumulate increasing subscribers, it may be the right time to build your own core network, expanding your business and profit margins.
IPLOOK enables you to become four types of MVNO: brand reseller, light MVNO, full MVNO, MVNE by building your own core network. More info can be found here. Feel free to contact us for further discussion!
