Odair’s Miracle
Tumblr media
Warnings- pregnant reader, husband!finnick, typical hunger games let me know what else:)
Y/N was sitting on the couch, hands running along her seven month bump as Finnick was scattering around the house trying to baby proof it. You didn’t really need to have it baby proofed quit yet, but it’s Finnick’s way of distracting himself from the Quoter Quell announcement that’s about to come.
“Finnick!” Y/N called.
“Has it started?” He asked, running in.
“No.” Y/N breathed, hands on her bump, tears in her eyes.
Finnick softened as he saw the tears. “Hey, don’t cry.” He let out, walking over and getting on his knees in front of her. “Tell me what’s wrong love.”
“I’m scared.” Y/N let out. “We don’t know what Snow’s gonna do. Finn, neither of us can go back. I can’t handle that.”
“I know. I know.” He let out grabbing her hands in his, giving them a light squeeze. “Who said anything about us going back?”
“Finny, why else would you be baby proofing the house?”
“You know me so well,” Finnick sighed, looking down.
“I’m scared Finn.”
“I know honey,” Finnick let out, getting up and sitting down next to you. “Come on. Let’s cuddle.”
“I’m so scared Finny,” Y/N let out as Finnick wrapped her arms around her. “I just want to raise our baby in peace.”
“ai know honey, I know.” Finnick cooed, wrapping his arms under her bump and holding it up. She let out a light moan that made him smile. “That feel good my love?”
“Never stop.” She smiled.
“Of course Mama.”
“How do you always know how to put a smile on my face?”
“Cause you’re my girl.” He let out, kissing her head.
Music chimed from the TV, indicating it was about to start. You and Finnick both held your breathes as President Snow appeared on the screen.
“Ladies and Gentlemen, Citizens or Panem. This is the 75 year of the Hunger Games. When the charter of the Games was written, it was dedicated that every 25 years there would be a quarter Quell. To make fresh for each new generation the memory of those killed by the rebellion against the Capital. The Quarter Quell was reserved for the games of special significance. On the 25 anniversary, as a reminder that two rebels died for every Capital citizen, each year District was required to send twice the Tributes to the arena. And now, on the 75 anniversary of the rebellion, we honor our third Quarter Quell, as bestowed to us, by the signers of the Treaty of Treason. ‘As a reminder that even the strongest cannot overcome the power of the Capital, on this 3rd Quarter Quell Games, the male and female tributes are to be reaped.’ Are to be reaped from the existing pool of victors in each District.”
That was it. You just felt your heart stop. Your whole world was destroying all around you. “No!” You cried, hands on your bump. “NO!”
“Honey, I need you to breathe.” Finnick let out, voice shaky as he tried not to cry. “Breathe.”
“Finny, our baby!”
“I know. I know, honey. But the baby needs you to breathe. Can you do that for me and the baby Mama?”
“I can’t go back.”
“You won’t. No one will let you.” He explained. “Honey, you know someone will volunteer if your name gets picked. No one will send you in pregnant.”
“Finny, you can’t go back there.”
“Honey, if they call my name, I have no choice.”
“But our baby.”
“Our baby will be fine.”
“I won’t be. I can’t do this without you Finny.”
“Honey,” Finnick sighed, wiping a tear away. “If I go back, and I don’t make it, you’re going to have to do it without me.”
🔱🔱🔱
“The male tribute from district 4 is Finnick Odair!”
Finnick bit down his tears, as he smiled his charming smile. Y/N felt her heart brake as her husband got called to go back, she didn’t even notice the tears falling down her face.
“And the female tribute from district 4 is Y/N L/N-Odair!”
Everyone gasped when Y/N’s name was called, tears coming to Finnick’s eyes. Mags quickly raised her hand and pointed for her to go. Y/N broke down into a sob as Mags hugged her.
Finnick watched, tears slowly falling down his cheeks as Mags hugged his crying, pregnant wife. Knowing that he couldn’t wrap her up in a hug.
🔱🔱🔱
Finnick had convinced everyone to let Y/N go to the capital with him and Mags so Y/N wouldn’t be left alone. Though she would have been safe with his sister, Annie, back at their beach house in 4, Finnick knew Y/N wouldn’t be able to handle not being with him in the Capital.
Y/N was currently sitting on the train on the way to the capital, crying in the arms of her loving husband.
“It’s okay, honey.” Finnick breathed, kissing her head. “I’m right here.”
“But, Finny, you could die.”
“We don’t know that honey. Let me worry about it. You don’t need to be worrying right now. Our baby doesn’t need their Mommy worrying about their Daddy.”
“How could I not worry about you though?” Y/N asked, resting her head on his chest as she sat in his lap.
“Please don’t. For me please don’t.”
“But I love you so much.”
“I know honey. And I love you too. Which is why I dont want you worrying. To keep you and the baby healthy.”
“Please don’t die on me.” Y/N cried, voice breaking as she shook in his arms.
Finnick’s heart broke as he held her close to him. Kissing her head he said, “I know honey. I know. I’m going to do my best.”
🔱🔱🔱
Y/N was standing while Finnick and Mags was getting ready to mount up. The baby was kicking as Y/N subconsciously ran her hand along her bump, deep in thought.
“Honey,” Finnick called, kissing her head as he wrapped his arms around her from behind. “We’ve talked about this. What’s on that pretty little mind of yours honey?”
“You know what,” Y/N let out, turning to looked at him. “Us. The baby. I’m just so scared.”
“I know honey, I know. But everything’s going to be okay, yeah?”
“How can you say that?” Y/N asked, looking up at him. Little did she know that her husband just signed up to be part of the rebel group.
“Just trust me on this, okay?” He asked, wiping a tear. “You trust me right?” She nodded. “Yeah, that’s what I thought pretty girl.” He smiled kissing her head. “Now don’t worry, okay.”
“Okay.” Y/N breathed. “I like this look on you.”
“Yeah?” Finnick smiled, looking down at his wife.
“Yeah.” She smiled, placing a hand on his bare chest. “I like seeing your abbs. They’re hot.”
“Thank you my love.” Finnick smiled, putting a hand on her bump, feeling the baby as they frantically moved, frowning a bit. “Baby’s really active arnt they?”
“Yeah. They’re nervous about their daddy.”
Finnick bit down and kissed them bump. “Hey, baby. It’s Daddy. I’m going to be okay. But I need you to do me a favor. I need you to take care of your Mommy for me while I’m gone. I won’t be gone for long, but take care of her while I am, okay? Can you do that for me sweetness?” Finnick smiled, and got back up. “Go sit with Mags and get some rest, okay honey? I need to go talk to some people.”
“Okay.”
🔱🔱🔱
“Katniss,” Finnick called, walking up to her.
“Hello, Finnick.”
“Do you want a sugar cube? I mean, it’s supposed to be for the horses, but… I mean, who cares about them, right? They got years to eat sugar, whereas you and I… Well, if we see something sweet, we better grab it.”
“No thanks. But I would love to borrow that outfit someday. I bet your wife likes it.”
“She does.” Finnick smiled, at the mention of his wife. “You look pretty terrifying in that getup. What happened to the pretty little girl dresses?”
“I outgrew them.”
“You certainly did. Shame about this Quell thing. Now, you… You could’ve made it out like a bandit in the Capitol. Jewels, money, anything you wanted.”
“Well, I don’t like jewels and I have more money than I need, so… What did you do with all your wealth, anyway?”
“I haven’t dealt in anything as common as money in years.”
“Then how do people pay for the pleasure of your company?”
“With secrets. What about you, Girl on Fire? Any secrets worth my time?”
“I’m an open book. Everybody always seems to know my secrets before I know them myself.”
“Unfortunately, I think that’s true.” Finnick let out.
“Finnick,” Y/N let out, waddling a little as she made her way to Finnick. “Don’t torment this sweet girl. She’s gone through enough.”
“I’m not honey,” Finnick explained, wrapping an arm around her. “Just chatting. What about you? I thought I told you to rest?”
“I missed you.”
Finnick hummed and smiled down at her. “Honey, this is Katniss Everdeen, Katniss, this is my wife, Y/N.”
“It’s nice to meet you,” Y/N smiled, sticking out her hand.
“It’s nice to meet you too.” Katniss smiled, shaking her hand. “Congratulations on the baby.”
“Thank you. I just wish it was in better times.”
“Yes, well, you’re not due for another two months so we have time.” Finnick let out.

look i know the hunger games fandom is entrenched in songbirds and snakes brainrot right now but i just wanna mention how horribly genius the tesserae system is
like. it's designed to keep the poorest districts from ever winning the games, by keeping the population of those districts on the verge of starvation without ever tipping the line too far. the poorer you are, the more you need your children to take tesserae. the more tesserae your children take, the more times their name is added to the reaping pool. the more times a name appears in the reaping pool, the more likely they are to be drawn over a person who doesn't need to take tesserae. a kid who's been surviving off of tesserae grain and oil is exponentially more likely to die early on in the games due to the effects of malnutrition (low muscle mass and body fat, not to mention the mental consequences).
pretty much the only reason katniss was physically capable of surviving the games was because she'd been able to catch meat in the forest. surviving on just the tesserae she was taking for her mother and prim, there's no way she would've had the physical strength to make it out alive.
say what you want about the realism of the hunger games but the tesserae system is horrifyingly well-designed to do exactly what it's supposed to do.
Edit: guys I wrote a fic that's meant to dissect all these horribly genius systems involved in the functioning of Panem, check it out

there was a moment when the people in the movie theatre and the capitol audience in the stands were laughing at the same things, having the same reactions to the games, to the deaths, to flickermans jokes, to the doctor's announcement...i wonder aren't we watching it for entertainment too
suzanne collins' books may exist in popular culture as "dystopian", but they have always been a meticulous and startlingly close social critique of our world. at what point does our own idolization of the movies and the books repeat that story? we watch just as the capitol audience does.
all dystopia eventually crosses a line from realistic futurism to current relevancy. how long will it take us to realize we've already crossed that line with these books? and the very people who need to realize this are the ones in that audience...real or fake, we're the same: consuming and consuming.

In the epilogue of Mockingjay, Katniss only refers to her children as 'the boy' and 'the girl'. We never learn their real names. Throughout her life, Katniss has never really been allowed privacy or the ability to make many of her own decisions. Whether this was caused by the living conditions of the Seam and having to constantly provide for Prim and their mother, or by the fact that she was forced into the scrutiny of the public eye when she was reaped/volunteered and became the face of the rebellion- The Mockingjay.
So then all of this passes, she and Peeta are living together in District 12 in the Victor's Village, and they are finally allowed to choose how they want to live. After 15 years, she decides that she's ready to have kids. They can be raised in a safe environment with no Games, no threats. So the one choice she makes at the end is to keep their names from us, the audience. The one thing that gives us our identity before anything else. The one thing that, essentially, makes us who we are (also Suzanne is so meticulous with picking names throughout the series, so it would be special to Katniss and Peeta). She decides that that's only for her and her family to know.
We, who have literally seen every inch of her life from the reaping up until now, are being told that no, we don't get to see parts of her life without her permission anymore. And it always makes me so emotional. Like yes! Take back your life! Rest. Live. Love. But on YOUR terms and no one elses.
(I posted this on my TikTok acc @narniachrons as well. It wasn't stolen, I swear!)

Can you believe they had the nerve, the gall, the gumption to cut when book Peeta says “You here to finish me off, sweetheart?”, one of the most iconic lines that established his flirty personality and cute banter with Katniss?? He’s literally in immense pain, dying from a leg injury, buried under a wall of mud that’s infecting the wound, and still has the energy to tease her. Not to mention the innuendo, come on.

Tumblr media
You were one of the youngest victors alongside Finnick, being only 15 and having won your games. You were also from District 4. You won the 68th Hunger Games, a few years after Finnick.
When you were reaped, Finnick and Mags were your mentors. Finnick came off as self absorbed and arrogant but once you started talking to him, the more you realized that was total bullshit. He wasn't how the Capitol portrayed him, he was much more caring and compassionate. He was very sympathetic to your situation, having gone through the same things.
During your time in the arena, you were one of the most ruthless tributes of all time. In the beginning, you were easily overlooked. The tributes weren't thinking that you were going to be much of a challenge because of your size and the way you carried yourself.
But that was exactly how you wanted to be portrayed. You tricked the Careers into thinking you were some naïve little girl, stabbing them in the back (literally) the first chance you got. The Capitol loved the turn of events, cheering you on.
When you had come back home, you had finally understood the intensity of what you had done. You had killed a whole group of people, ending their lives permanently. Those people had lives and family who loved them, and now they're gone because of you.
You suffered through months and months from never ending nightmares. Even getting consoled by your mother didn't help anymore; she doesn't understand. You didn't even feel worthy of food anymore.
You closed off Mags and Finnick when you had come home, driving yourself into isolation and depression. You rarely went out anymore, eating one meal a day and slept more than 80% of the day. Even sleeping couldn't mend the eternal tiredness you had, the void that filled your body.
Finnick had felt more than responsible for your pain. He gave you time before he realized he was just adding to your pain. Even when you didn't communicate back to him, Finnick visited you every day. He gave you advice and told you what he had went through after the Games as well. Eventually you opened up more to Finnick, and slowly, he had become your best friend.
He had told you that numbing it wasn't going to make it go away. He reminded you that you had him and Mags to help you with this process, and that you weren't alone despite of how you felt.
He helped you regain your sense of purpose again, your self image again. Finnick had singlehandedly helped you rebuilt your sense of self again.
He saw a part of you in him, that scared 14 year old boy who was trying to go back home to his parents. He never wanted anyone to feel that, especially you.
He promised you that he would never let anything bad ever happen to you again.
During your Victor's tour, Snow had suddenly deemed you desirable by the Capitol, wanting to sell you as he did with Finnick. Finnick couldn't risk getting involved, wanting to protect his family.
Every night in the Capitol, you were always consoled by Finnick. Every time you had to do a favor, you remember walking to Finnick's room to sleep, not baring the thought of having to sleep alone in the cold bed. He was always there, holding your hand comfortingly as you both slept.
The Capitol adored you both, nicknaming you the princess and prince of Panem. The more time you spent with Finnick, the more the media had speculated a relationship between the young victors.
You and Finnick had connected in many ways. Both having the same trauma, it was easy to talk to him and for him to understand how hard it was.
You and Finnick eventually got together a few years later, then getting married (in secret, of course) almost right after. You were both deeply in love.
Finnick found solace in the thought of always having you by his side, remembering that no one could tear you apart. That was until the Quarter Quell was announced.
You and Finnick were sitting at the edge of the couch, listening to Caesar's words carefully as he explained that this year's Hunger Games was going to be very different.
When it was announced that there will be only be Victors in this year's games, you heard dropped. You looked over at Finnick and he shared the same terrified look on his face.
--
When Annie's name had been called, you without any second thought, put up your hand. "I volunteer as tribute."
The crowd gasped and you looked over at Annie and you could tell she was a bit relived but still scared nonetheless. You immediately embraced her tightly, letting her let out a small sob. "It's okay, you're okay."
Mags looked just as terrified and you took her hand. When Finnick's name was called, you felt your stomach drop. Not only were you back in the arena, but you were with Finnick.
You looked over at Finnick and he looked prepared to fight. You both stood up and he grabbed your hand, raising it up in union.
The trainride to the Capitol was pretty uneventful. Finnick had wanted some time to think about the plan and so did you. A part of you knew what he was planning; he kill everyone else in the arena and then eventually himself, all for you.
As you sat on the bed, you felt the sadness and anger turn into numbness. No amount of crying was going to stop the Quater Quell and you had to be smart.
You didn't want to survive without Finnick. You were either winning with him or dying with him. Life would be meaningless without him.
Finnick knocked on your door slightly, before walking in. You looked up at him and he gave you a small smile. He took a seat next to and took your hand.
"I have a plan."
"Finnick, I know what you're thinking, and no. You're not killing yourself for me."
Finnick looked defeated. "One of us has to survive, Y/N. For Annie. For Mags."
You look a deep inhale, looking away from Finnick. "I don't want to life without you, everything would lose all it's meaning without you."
Finnick felt his heart burst into two pieces as he squeezed your hand. You felt your eyes watering again and you couldn't help but let out another quiet cry as Finnick pulled your head in, as he embraced you tightly.
"Shh, it's okay. I promise, I won't... I won't leave you."
--
It had all happened so fast, you couldn't even comprehend what had just happened. One moment, you were with Finnick trying to find Johanna and Katniss and suddenly there was big loud boom. You were relieved for a moment; Plutarch's plan had worked. Until you realized how far away you were from the others.
You were wandering, trying to find anyone until you heard people behind you. You turned and then you saw some unfamiliar faces; suddenly, your vision went black.
Then, you woke up in a white room. You felt like your stomach had dropped out of your body once the realization hit you; the Capitol captured you.
You were strapped down to a bed and you couldn't move or shake it off. The severity of the situation had hit you; even if by some miracle you did escape, where would you go? How would you find your way to 13 and back to Finnick?
You knew how ruthless the Capitol was to everyone who disobeyed them. Your worst fears had come true and there was no getting out of here.
You heard the door open and you saw some Peacekeepers come in and then you saw the person you dreaded to see most; Snow. You felt like your whole had come crashing down, how could this nightmare become any worse?
"Hello, Y/N."
You didn't respond, resorting to stare at the wall in front of you instead.
He tutted disappointedly. "Out of all the tributes, you were the one I expected least to be involved in this mess. You are the Princess of Panem... What a shame."
You still hadn't replied and you hadn't dared to look at Snow. Months and months you spent trying to heal the trauma he had caused you, you were sure if you had to look at him now, you would break.
"I want to take mercy on you, dear Y/N. If you tell me everything you know about the rebellion, I will make sure the Peacekeepers are gentle with you."
You shook your head. "No."
He let out a small chuckle. "Sorry, I couldn't hear you. What?"
"No." You said again, louder.
He hummed in disapproval. "Okay then, you leave me no choice. You are going to regret this."
He nodded to the Peacekeepers and walked out of the room. You were then met with Peacekeepers, loosening the straps then taking you to another room.
If Snow knew one thing about you, it was that being only physical with you wouldn't hurt you enough. He had to hit you were it hurt most.
They threw you in the seemingly vacant room and immediately locking it. You were confused until you heard it.
"Y/N, help me!" Finnick's voice screamed. "Please, help me! Get up and do something, they're killing me! Please."
You looked everywhere in the dark room, trying to find the source. It kept going.
"Y/N, please! Help! What the hell are you doing, just sitting there? You are such a disappointment!" The voice started shouting. "We should've just left you to died in the arena! You are useless!"
Now this was something new. Your body was filled with panic and fear and even though you knew it was fake, you felt like you were going to throw up from all the noise.
Suddenly, Annie's voice came in as well. Then Johanna's. Then your mother's. There was nonstop noise filled with screams for help, shouting with disapproving messages. Your body couldn't handle it; it was so overwhelmed with fear that you started shaking on the ground, putting your hands on your ears but that did little to nothing.
You wanted it to stop. It was too much, you were trembling. It felt like days, just sitting there in that room listening to all those demeaning voices of your loved ones. You couldn't even think straight anymore.
It was so bad you had started to pound your head on the ground, screaming and crying. You had have enough. And then, it all stopped. Silence was foreign for you; your ears were ringing.
You were sitting on the ground, almost lifeless as the Peacekeepers took you away. Your eyes hurt from the tears, your body sore, your ears ringing and your head was pounding.
But you knew that was just the beginning.
--
You were asleep in bed and you were awakened by the door opening, you instantly jolted up. You looked over to see a group of masked men in front of you and you had started to tremble again, silent tears rolling down your face, thinking that the Peacekeepers had come again.
"No, no, no." You started to mumble to yourself.
A man came up to your and took your bruised hand slowly, rubbing it gently in silent empathy. That was the first soft touch you'd felt in a few weeks and it almost stung.
"It's okay, you're safe now. You're going to 13 now."
You had to blink a couple times, trying to process what he said. Was this a dream? You went to pinch yourself but it was real life.
He then helped you up but you couldn't help but stumble; your legs were weak, you couldn't remember the last time the Peacekeepers let you walk for this long.
As you got into the hovercraft, you saw Annie. Your eyes widened as you both ran up to each other, embracing each other. She had started to cry a little bit and so did you.
That was when it hit you. You were going to see Finnick. You were going home. You started crying into Annie's shoulder as she held you. "We're safe now, we're safe."
You had seen Johanna as well but she didn't seem too responsive. Neither did Peeta. You fell asleep on Annie's shoulder on the ride back and for the first time, you actually felt yourself drifting off calmly.
--
There were lots of doctors and nurses looking at you and asking you all sorts of questions and you tried your best to answer them. You were still in shock; you were safe. They couldn't hurt you anymore.
"Y/N?" You turned around to see Finnick. You immediately got up from the examiner's table and ran into his arms, your eyes starting to water up again.
"Finnick," you sighed slowly. You pulled away, putting your hands on his face and touched him as if he wasn't real.
"Are you.. Are you really here?"
"Yes, I'm really here." Finnick looked at you and suddenly his voice transported you back into the dark room. You quickly twisted out of his embrace and his expression changed.
His voice was back and you heard all of the nasty things he had to you. You back away, stumbling into the examiner's table and your breathing became heavy. "No, no, no, please-please go away. No."
You slid down to the floor and you closed your eyes, putting your hands on your ears and rocking back and forth trying to get that voice to stop.
Finnick ran up to you and put his hands on your knees, trying to get you to look at him. His heart broke in half; he didn't know what the Capitol had done to you but now he knows it has something to do with him.
Of course the Capitol would try to ruin him. His eyes started to tear up at the sight of you, in so much pain and panic.
You opened your eyes, Finnick in front of you. You started to cry some more before Finnick slowly went up to you, wrapping his arms around you.
When he had started wrapping your arms around you, your instinct was to push him away but his warmth was welcoming and safe and you started to focus on his touch. The voices slowly drifted away, the sounds of your silent sobs only being heard.
You then gave into Finnick's touch, falling into him and putting your head in his chest as he caressed your back gently, shushing you.
"It's okay baby, I got you. You're safe now, they can't hurt you."

Odair’s Miracle
Tumblr media
Warnings- pregnant reader, husband!finnick, typical hunger games let me know what else:)
“They’re still making up their mind,” Haymitch explained the other tributes in a rebel meeting. “She wants only Wiress and Beetee and Mags, and he’s gonna do whatever she wants.”
“Mags and I are a picked deal, she has to understand that.” Finnick protested.
“She’s the girl on fire, she’s not going to care. But if you all keep each other safe, and those two safe until we can get you out, then she might trust you enough to be allies. Finnick and Mags, you stay with them, Johanna you stick with Wiress and Beetee.”
“Haymitch!” Finnick called, running up to him as everyone started to leave. “We need to talk.”
“We do indeed. Not just about Y/N.”
“We gotta keep her safe, Haymitch. She isn’t safe here.”
“Son, you think I don’t know that? Your wife is like a daughter to me. You and I would both gladly die to keep her and that baby safe.”
“I know. So what are we gonna do?”
“I’ve been talking with 13. They have doctors there that will be able to take care of Y/N and the baby. Help with the delivery as well. I’m making sure they have everything you two will need. Dippers, bottles, pacifiers, everything.”
“Thank you.”
“Of course. As soon as we break you all out we’re all going to 13 and she’s going to go make sure the baby’s okay.”
“No,”
“No? What do you mean no?”
“I want her on the first plane there as soon as possible.” Finnick ordered. “I want her there before the games end. Before they start if that’s possible. The longer she’s here the more danger she’s in. I want to know she’s in 13 and her and the baby are safe while I’m in the games. She doesn’t know anything right now, but she’ll listen to you Haymitch. You’re like her dad. If you get her on that plane she’s gonna go. And I need her and the baby safe.”
Haymitch smiled at how demanding Finnick was about Y/N and the baby’s safety. “Of course. The night before the games, while everyone’s asleep, I’ll get her on a plane back. If anyone asks, she’s going back to 4 to be with your sister during the games.”
“Thank you.”
🔱🔱🔱
“Darling, I’m back.” Finnick called, as he walked into their hotel suite.
“Finny,” Y/N called from the bed.
“Is everything okay, my love?” Finnick asked, as he walked in to the bedroom.
“I just missed you.” Y/N explained. “And so did the baby.”
“Well, I missed you both two.” He smiled, getting undressed. “How was your evening honey?” He asked, getting in bed.
“It was good. I ate dinner and then came to bed. How was your night? Do you have any allies.”
“Yeah, I have some.” He sighed, snuggling up to her, lying his head on her chest, close to the bump as he placed his big hand on it.
“What is it?” Y/N asked, raking her figures through his hair. “I know that sigh, what’s wrong?”
“Katniss only wants Mags, and Peeta’s just gonna do what ever she wants. But she doesn’t seem to understand that Mags and I our a group. A packed deal.”
“I know. I’m sorry honey. But you have to give her some grace. She’s just a kid. You have to remind that.”
“I know.” He breathed. The baby kicked, maligning him smile. “Hi, baby.” He smiled, kissing where the baby kissed, and running his hand along the bump. “We love you.”
“We certainly do.” Y/N smiled.
🔱🔱🔱
“Finnick,” Caesar let out, holding the mic, while Finnick smiled at the audience. “I understand that you have a message for somebody out there. A special somebody. A somebody that might even be pregnant with your baby?”
“Yes,” Finnick smiled. “That’s the one. My beautiful wife, Y/N.”
“Now, I have never seen you cry before, Finnick. That was until your wife got called into the reaping. I think we all got scared when we saw how pregnant she was. Are you worried about the pregnancy at all? About the chance that you might not get to meet your baby?”
“Well, don’t say that, Caesar.” Finnick chuckled, putting on a show for everyone. “Of course Im going to get out, and go back home and to my wife. Be there for her throughout the rest of her pregnancy, and while she’s in labor. I’m going to meet my baby.”
“Of course you are.” Caesar let out. “But just in case you don’t, do you have anything you want to say?”
“My love,” Finnick started, looking in the camera. “You have my heart for all eternity and if… If I die in that arena, my last thought will be of your lips, and our baby.”
🔱🔱🔱
“Finny!” Y/N cried as Finnick walked into his dressing room, closing the door. “Finny, I love you so much!”
“I love you more, honey,” he let out, wrapping her in a tight hug. “You and the baby.”
“Please don’t die in there.” Y/N begged.
“I won’t.”
“How can you be so sure?”
Finnick went to answer, but there was a knock at the door. “Who is it?” He asked, walking to it.
“You know.” Haymitch called.
Finnick sighed and opened the door. “I thought we had more time.” He whispered.
“It’s now or later.” Haymitch replied, then he walked in.
“ Bubba!” Y/N smelled as Haymitch entered the room.
“Hey, kid,” Haymitch smiled, hugging her. “I’ve missed you.”
“I’ve missed you too. I haven’t seen you science the tour came to 4, how are you?”
“As good as I can be under these circumstances. How about you? How are you and the baby.”
“We’re also good, under the circumstances.”
“Darling,” Finnick sighed, walking up to her. “We need to talk.”
“What’s wrong?” Y/N asked, fear washing over her face as she put her hands protectively around the bump.
“Darling, there’s a rebel plan going on. We’re going to escape out of the arena and fly out to 13.”
“What?” Y/N gasped, tears coming to her face.
“It’s to dangerous to go into more explanation, but Haymitch is going to take yih to a plane. I need to know you’re safe in 13 before I go into the games tomorrow.”
“What? But, what about you?”
“I’ll be there soon, honey,” Finnick explained, cupping her face. “Hey, it’s okay. It’s okay. This is to keep you and the baby safe. You know Haymitch and I wouldn’t do anything that would hurt you and the baby.”
“I know. But I don’t want to leave you.”
“I know. But it will be okay.” He explained, kissing her lips, one hand on her face, as the other went to her baby bump.
“Here,” she let out, slipping off her sea shell ring that matched his shark tooth necklace. Wear this for me.”
“I will,” he let out, taking it, and putting it in his pocket. “It won’t fit in my fingers, but I’ll have my dresser tie it to a string for a necklace. You take mine, okay.” He said, taking his necklace off, and putting it around her neck.
“I love you,” Y/N cried, hugging him as best she could with the bump.
“I love you,” Finnick let out, kissing her head.

Remembering the time Haymitch got into this huge argument with Katniss's doctors to prevent them from SURGICALLY ALTERING HER BODY WITHOUT HER CONSENT (ik thg universe has done worse but-) because he knew she would hate that.
Remembering the time the hunger games organisers forced Cinna to design a dress with paddings near the breasts when they weren't allowed to give her a boob job, only for him to cleverly make the dress so that the padding would serve absolutely no purpose to make Katniss, a MINOR, have big breasts.
Suzanne Collins really did go all out on the cruelty and awfulness of society and Cinna and Haymitch are truly amazing.

some pre-reaping Katniss and etccccc
Random thoughts
Hc that Katniss and Prim wear oversized pre-loved clothes bought from the hob, which are lots of men’s wear left behind by the peacekeepers. And it makes sense to get larger clothes to grow into and whatnot. So yea it doesn’t fit the best but they are mended and presentable! On another note I like the blue grey washed out aesthetic of district 12 in the movies so I tried to put that here
Anw I been struggling to draw esp with this one for like weeeeks so pls pat me on the back for finishing it /sobs
