A version of Hallucifer where his constant insistence that Sam is still in the Cage isn’t perceived as a threat but as a comfort.

Saying stuff like, “Don’t worry, Sam. All this is just set dressing, just a game we’re playing. The only parts that are real are you and me.” and Sam hearing this and thinking without meaning to, thank you, thank you, everything still makes sense, I’m still where I’m supposed to be. But deep down he knows he did get out and that’s what’s killing him.

Sam stopped wanting to be free. #Stockholm syndrome or true vessel shit or whatever reason you want #I think that should be his reality and I think it should be agonizing to him that he got out and lucifer didn’t #to the point where believing he’s still there is the only way he can keep going some days #he and lucifer are just playing a game where Sam is back on earth and hunting with his brother #and any minute now Lucifer’s going to get bored and they’ll move onto something else #any minute now #Sam waiting for the curtain to be pulled aside and getting increasingly distressed the longer it doesn’t. #the harder it gets to still convince himself he’s in the Cage #which is the point at which hallucifer’s demeanor changes from reassuring him they’re both still trapped #to taunting Sam and telling him the only way back is to kill himself #and so Sam’s main source of comfort inevitably cracks open to reveal the ugly truth #that Sam is free.
