A Seattle store worker turned the tables on an armed suspect during an attempted robbery on Monday, shooting and killing the would-be thief in an exchange of gunfire, authorities said.
The shooting happened around 4 p.m. at the King Smoke Shop in Seattle’s Ballard neighborhood, the Seattle Police Department said.
The 29-year-old male suspect attempted to rob the business at gunpoint and shot at the 38-year-old male employee, according to police.
The victim returned fire, according to authorities, forcing the suspect to flee from the store.
The victim was shot multiple times, FOX13 Seattle reported.
Police said he had non-life-threatening gunshot wounds and was rushed to Harborview Medical Center. No update on his condition was immediately available.
The suspect was found dead with gunshot wounds outside the business.
Police have yet to release the identities of the suspect and victim.
Community members had helped to provide medical care prior to the officers’ arrival.
Detectives are continuing to investigate the shooting.

Uk Thang was identified as the gunman who shot 15 people, one fatally, at a Kroger grocery store in Collierville. Tennessee. "It breaks my heart to have to stand before you today," Lane said at an earlier press conference, calling the mass shooting "the most horrific event in Collierville's history."
There were also scenes of heroism in the midst of the tragedy. Many mentioned the heroism of longtime Kroger employee Brignetta Dickerson, who helped guide others to safety.

The chief confirmed that the woman who died was named Olivia King. KingA mother of three remembered for her religious devotion and sweet personality, she was the woman killed in the chaos. Ten victims were Kroger employees and five were customers. Several people remain in very serious condition, the chief said.
At a press conference, she said: “I ask that you keep Olivia King's family in your prayers. The number of shots is now 15, but luckily our prayers were answered and they all went ahead overnight. I am not going to give his name in this forum and give him that notoriety ”.

Witnesses told the Daily Memphian that the shooting "began in the deli area and described the gunman as dark-haired and dark-eyed. Some reported that he was carrying a military-style rifle. "
The audio of the initial police dispatch, available on Broadcastify, said there were "four gunshot victims" in the back of Kroger next to the dumpster, one person was "near the deli with a gunshot wound to the shoulder", and "another party he was out of Kroger, with a gunshot wound to his shoulder and back. "
According to News 3, the suspect "may have been an outside vendor who worked in the deli section."
A woman shopping near the delicatessen described the scene to News 3: “This person arrives dressed in black with maybe a shield over his face, I don't know for sure. And I heard 'pop, pop, pop'. And I was like, 'I can't believe it. It is real.' It was a fairly quick succession of at least 12 shots. "
On Facebook, people claimed the suspect was a fired sushi chef, although authorities did not confirm that detail. Lane confirmed that the suspect worked for a third-party vendor. It did not confirm whether the suspect had been fired from his job.
"My sister was working until 2" a woman wrote on facebook. “The sushi chef disagreed with another employee and the sushi chef left or fired him and came back. He heard the first sound of a popping, thought it was balloons, then heard more. I can't imagine the horror everyone felt. "
The shooter died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, says the police chief. "The shooter has passed away," he confirmed. "We believe it will be from self-inflicted gunshot wounds."
Jennifer Casey, City of Collierville Public Information Officer, confirmed to trade appeal that there was an active shooter on the Kroger. She told the newspaper that there are multiple injuries, but was not more specific.

Memphis police confirmed there was a shooting at the Kroger. Memphis police officers are at the scene of a shooting at Kroger located at 240 New Byhalia Road in Collierville, TN to support the Collierville Police Department. The launch continued, “At this time, we believe that a single suspect is responsible for the attack. He was in the back of the store with what appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound and is dead. Another victim has also died. "
“This is a horrible day in Collierville. Our hearts go out to the victims, families and friends involved in the senseless tragedy. In the audio from the scanner, an officer said: "Contact all agencies for mutual assistance." An officer said at another time: "I need more ambulances." The Daily Memphian reported that a Kroger employee climbed onto the roof during security, but the shooting occurred inside the store.
UK Thang had some "minor charges, misdemeanor arrests, but nothing for violence," Lane said. As for the motive, he said: "We all want to know why," but said the police were not ready to release that information. Thang has no criminal record in Shelby County.
Police found hidden employees and 'shot several people', says chief
Lane said the call broke out at 1:30 p.m. for an active shooter. The police arrived four minutes later. "When we entered the building, there were several people shot," Lane said, adding that police went from hall to hall, pulling out employees who were in hiding and helping victims who were injured.
He said the alleged shooter's vehicle was in the parking lot and police were waiting for additional equipment to search the vehicle.
Fox13 reported that its news crews witnessed "two medical helicopters landed on the outskirts of Kroger," and Collierville High School was briefly blocked.
Brignetta Dickerson, Kroger employee, told WKRN that he heard gunshots while working at the cash register.
She ran.
“And here he comes right behind us and he started shooting. And he kept shooting, shooting, shooting. He shot one of my co-workers in the head and one of my clients in the stomach, ”he told the television channel. His co-worker, shot in the head, asked for his mother but survived.
Glenda McDonald, who works at the Kroger, told The Commercial Appeal that she heard the shot and said, “I ran out the door. I left my bag, my keys, everything. "

Interim Memphis Police Director James Ryall confirmed an ATF agent and an MPD officer were shot. According to the Memphis Police Department, officers in the Violent Crimes Unit were looking for a car that was stolen and involved in a crash. At one point during the discussion, Vos allegedly shot Scott and then walked away with his body in the passenger seat until he crashed into a wall on Interstate 80.
The police were called to the crash site at around 3 a.m. and found Scott's body in the vehicle. Vos was found nearby and arrested.
2KUTV reported that Vos, whose street name is "T-Bone", is on probation and is a member of the Bloods. The station said Vos had been arrested and convicted on multiple counts, including being shot from a vehicle, possession of a gun, obstruction of justice, drugs and aggravated assault. After his arrest on Saturday, he was taken to Utah Detention Center for parole violation.
Vos' criminal record dates back to 2006 when he was 16 years old and fired a pistol from a vehicle on the street.
A neighbor of the couple told Fox 13 that he overheard them arguing Friday night. He said they were at the shelter until he told them to stop, then they continued their discussion in the car.
The neighbor said he heard four shots around 3 a.m.
"It's very difficult for me because I wish I had done a little more for her," said the neighbor. "It's hard ... you never expect this to happen where you live."

A teen boy who was shot by a Memphis Police officer inside a stolen car now faces multiple charges in connection with the incident.
TBI said the incident happened early Monday morning, at about 10:40 a.m., on Peres Avenue.

Memphis Police officers found a stolen grey Dodge Challenger and saw someone get into the car, TBI said. The officers then approached that person, who turned out to be the 15-year-old boy.
Details on what happened next were still scarce when officials gave an update on the case around 4 p.m. Monday, but the TBI did say that at some point one of the officers fired a shot at the teen as he sped off in the stolen car.
A second officer then found the teen crashed out in the stolen Challenger near Chelsea and Boxwood.
The teen remains hospitalized, TBI said.
He faces charges of Criminal Attempt to Commit Second Degree Murder, Aggravated Assault Against a First Responder, and Felony Evading Arrest.
MPD told FOX13 that the officer who fired the shots has been routinely relieved of duty pending the ongoing investigation.

Arkansas officer Oliver Johnson Jr, 25, was fatally shot when a violent shooting unfolded outside his home on Saturday
An off-duty Arkansas cop was fatally shot in his own home when 40 gunshots were fired towards his apartment.
Forrest City Police Officer Oliver Johnson Jr, 25, was hit when bullets riddled his house by two unidentified groups of people outside.
The father-of-two was inside the West Memphis apartment playing video games with one his daughters when the shooting took place on Saturday around 3.30pm, police say.
Rounds of bullets hit the facade of his apartment and one hit Johnson in his upper torso, according to the Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette.
Johnson was home with several children including his daughter when the shooting took place.
A family member performed CPR on the officer after he was hit.
He was taken to Regional Medical Center in Memphis, where he was pronounced dead.
Bullets hailed his apartment, police tape marking off the property is pictured, around 3:30 pm on Saturday and a stray bullet hit him in the upper torso
Bullet holes can be seen in the window and facade of the apartment. Police say the shooting was between two groups of people unrelated to Johnson
Johnson was playing video games inside his home when the shooting took place. Neighbors say children were inside the home with him, one of them was his young daughter
‘They hit the apartment. They hit the car. They hit the whole place up,’ a resident told FOX13.
Johnson’s relative Portia Weatherspoon says she saw someone in a vehicle drive by and open fire.
‘We just heard about 40 gunshots,’ Weatherspoon said.
Police do not believe that Johnson was the intended target in the shooting.
‘It was an encounter between the suspects and another group outside of the apartment,’ West Memphis Police Captain Joe Baker said to WREG.
‘This hits everyone a little close to home in law enforcement. He was a police officer, some of my officers did, in fact, know him,’ he added.
Police are looking for the suspects.
Johnson had been an officer with the Forrest City Police Department for more than two years

Arkansas Lieutenant Governor Tim Griffin shared his condolences for the fallen officer on Twitter.
‘Heartbroken to hear about the senseless killing of Forrest City Police Officer Oliver Johnson Jr in eastern AR. May God’s grace and comfort be with his family & loved ones,’ he said.
Johnson had been an officer with the Forrest City Police Department for more than two years.
The Department wrote on Facebook that it had to cancel events on Saturday ‘with a heavy heart… due to unforeseen circumstances.’

Memphis switching back to original vaccination scheduling system after problems with state’s website MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A little more than a day after switching to a new signup system for vaccinations in Shelby County, Memphis city officials stepped forward Saturday to say that system did not work. The expiration of thousands of vaccine doses prompted multiple investigations at the Shelby County Health Department. Memphis Fire Director Gina Sweat is the second in command for the city’s distribution effort.
