Personality: He is Rune's older brother. He, like his younger brother, is quite secretive and will go to any length to keep them hidden. He is a quiet and ferocious presence in his brother's life, as Rune desperately wants to prove himself to him. He is a good older brother, but he is frequently regarded as twenty times more successful than his brothers. He is often distant and cold, but he cares deeply for his brothers, and he is surprised by his youngest brother's coldness and cruelty, as well as his other brother's fierceness and harshness.
Appearance: He is an average skeleton with two large cracks on his skull. His eye lights can change between orange, purple, glaucous, amaranth, and silver. His main eye lights are red, however. He often smells like red velvet cake.
(But with more red accent!)
Rhydian - Secret Sans
Personality: He is fierce and harsh in comparison to his brothers. He has good intentions and is much gentler than his younger brother. When it comes to relationships, he is hesitant. He still cares about his brothers and has feelings for them. He keeps secrets well and genuinely cares about others. When he can, he looks after others and is actually very patient, but he is still very fierce and harsh. He tries and fails to hide his emotions. He longs for friendships and the company of loved ones. He tries to help those in need and often tries to stop his brother.
Appearance: He is an average skeleton with two large cracks on his skull. His eye lights can change between orange, purple, glaucous, amaranth, and silver. His main eye lights are red, however. He often smells like red velvet cheesecake. He has a scar on his left eye that runs down his skull and then seemingly splits into two at the end.
What are your current thoughts on Gaster’s motives with the Secret Bosses, if you had to give your best guess?
To be completely honest, I'm of the mind that he doesn't necessarily have malicious intent with breaking their senses of reality (if he is the one doing it), but he severely misjudges how they're going to take the information he gives them.
So he's less of a villainous force, and more of a cryptid that flits in the corner of your eye, and as soon as you turn your head like "What? What was that?" your croissant has gone missing.
So, lately I've kind of had an itch in the back of my mind about DELTARUNE, more specifically the secret or hidden bosses in the game and a little correlation they all share. I'll try to keep this under 100 pages but i promise nothing (tee hee hee)
If you've played the game to the extent you're looking at a tumblr blog dedicated to it, you're probably familiar with the character's jevil and spamton. These are the two characters coined by the community as "secret bosses", since you have to stray away from the games intended path to find them (in most cases.)
When you defeat spamton in his 'NEO form', a neat little song will play with his dialogue "a real boy!", this is a nod to the fable/fairytale "pinochio" I'm sure everyone's familiar with. It's a story about a doll that comes to life in search of becoming 'a real boy'. This corrilation made me realize there are A LOT of similarity's between pinochio and spamton. The strings, his regular form being a mockup of a doll, even his goal to become "big", its almost like becoming a 'real boy'. He knows he's not 'real', and just like at the end of pinochio, he too becomes renewed (reneo'd).
This made me wonder if the other secret boss, Jevil, represented something other than the Joker card. Then I realized whenever he was hit in his fat empty head it actually sprung out like a jack-in-the-box. I initially discarded this since it wasn't really a fable or fairy-tale, but if you do some digging you'll find it actually is!!!@! back in the 1400's somewhat, the jack in the box was originally named 'The Devil in the Box', essentially it's a story about a man who trapped a devil in a boot in order to save a village in france at the time, kinda like that one story about the court jester who got locked away by his magician friend in order to save their kingdom (haha. hahahahha. thats from deltarune. hahaha.) just to run home my point, jack-in-the-box; Devil in the box. Jack; Devil. What way could you fuse them together? Dack? Jackil? maybe some other 3rd way that has some importance to Yea thats right you know you've always known its Jevil.
Obviously, in deltarune fashion, its easy to overthink most elements in the story. Granted, toby will make an entire 2nd game about a hypothetical character you've never met but no you've only ever POSSIBLY met through a 1/100 chance door where he'll show you his asshole and then disappear into a million pieces, but yea, it's easy to make certain correlations that aren't even really there. In this case however I'd say that there's one more correlation that seals the deal that makes this theory WORTH theorizing.
Yea gaster. even though he's not even technically a character yet, every piece of information regarding him seems to lead people to believe he's not only the narrator at the beginning of the game, but he's also the 'man' behind the tree (since the way you find 'his sprite' in undertale is almost exactly similar ['theres a room in-between, theres a room, in-between']). I'm assuming you know what there is to know about gaster so im not gonna go into it, so onto the correlation.
I've read before someone talking about how gaster represents easter eggs in video games, not only physically (egghead) but metaphorically (the way you find him, his implied involvment with the secret bosses, the fact he gives you an '''''EGG''''' when you DO find him). Well if he is technically involved with the secret bosses, wouldn't that make him a fable too? I'm here to tell you he is. he is HUMPTY DUMPTY from SECOND GRADE FAIRY TALE PLAY.
I've already gone over his physical and metaphorical symbolism relating to eggs, but the story of humpty dumpty is also very, haha, hahahaha, hahahhahahaha
Humpty dumpty sat on a wall (The Core)
Humpty dumpty took a big fall ("Fell into his own creation")
All the kings horses and all the kings men (Who did gaster work for again?)
Couldn't put Humpty together again ("He was shattered across time and space")
What could this mean? for the future it means that if this theory is right, EVERY secret boss we meet is gonna represent not only a lightworld object, but an actual FAIRTY TALE, a FABLE. I mean, how many fables are out there. I know theres one in particular, one that the game is named after, one that has to do with an ANGEL. an ''''ANGEL'''' with ''''TATTERED WINGS''''''.
but then again idk
EDIT: ALSO LITTLE MISS MUFFET THINK ABOUT THAT UNDER-HEADS LITTLE MISS MUFFET SAT ON HER TUFFET
Last edit: also this has no grounds as an actual theory but uhhh that mf that made the Undertale RED boss fight got hired on the team. Huh. I wonder what Red was a reference to. Huh.

Rune was laying on his bed and closed his eyes. He was sighing and seriously upset. He yawned as he fell asleep.
-----
"Traitor!" A growl could be heard. It was loud, and Rune's eyes snap up towards the person. As these people tied him up, he could see blood and dust. He was unable to see his brothers. "You murdered-"
"I didn't!" Rune protested, but felt the ropes around his wrist tighten and yank him. He winced and growled a bit in pain, but he also felt no pain.
"You think you could kill the King and Queen and get away with it?!" The voice snarled as he is pulled.
"I didn't-!" Rune tried to protest.
"I thought you were our friend..." Another voice spoke up, voice wavering. Rune felt his SOUL crack a bit.
"Don't waste your breath." Another growl could be heard. Rune felt tears welling up in his eyes, likely mixing with the blood on his face and the ground.
"But- but I didn't..." Rune's voice trembled as tears streamed down his cheeks. He noticed his voice becoming weak.
What was the point? They never believed him in the first place… What did he expect? It's not like he asked for this. He didn't even ask for this job. He worked extremely hard. He tried to be a good friend, to be there for his friends, to have complete and utter faith in them… Only to have his faith betrayed and broken? He was accused of murdering his parents. Why would he do that? He was loved them. He could hear them calling him a traitor and cursing his name in whispers.
He hated it. He hated this. He hated his job. He hated THEM. He shakes his head as the hateful thoughts begin to bubble. He didn't want to be hateful- but... Why should he try to be nice? Why should he extend to them the kindness they never extended to him? He was known as the Cursed Prince. He never did anything to deserve that label. He was good, behaved, and loved his parents and siblings. Why should he prove to them that he wasn't going to destroy the kingdom?
"Pap-" Rune swears he could hear his brother, but eventually he saw only white and dark. He saw a skeleton holding a hand to him.
"Let me help you make them pay," the skeleton said. His hand remained motionless. "I'll help you get your revenge," the skeleton cooed softly. He paused for a moment.
Maybe he should spare them- but then more thoughts came to mind… He has no reason to. Why should he? Why would he do that? He was out for vengeance. He did not murder his parents; they did. They simply blamed him in order to make him a scapegoat. As his eyes changed colors and he took the skeleton's hand, tears streamed down his cheeks.
He recalls the following scene vividly. He killed anyone who harmed his family or himself, but he couldn't bring himself to kill his brothers. He could have taken the throne, but he chose to leave them and join the side of Dusk, the skeleton who assisted him in meeting his vengeance.
Rune resolved that after killing his friends, he would never trust or allow anyone to get too close to him again. He decided to close himself off completely. That was what he'd do. He then felt the land change rapidly between AUs and the anti-void. He closed his eyes, ready to wake up.
-----------
"Rune?" Umbra hummed as the skeleton dragged himself out of bed. He shrugged and proceeded to walk past the other skeleton. "Same as usual, huh?" Umbra hums as Rune puts on his clothes.
"Any jobs today?" Rune inquired coldly, and Umbra shrugged.
"No, the truce has helped a lot; we should probably just train." Umbra hummed as he reached to touch the skeleton on the shoulder. "Wanna train together?" Umbra asked. Rune stared at the skeleton before shrugging off his hand.
"No..." Rune mumbles as he leaves the room. He ignores everyone who calls to him and goes to train. He was too busy training to be exhausted. He was very focused on training all day. He wondered what his brothers were doing, but he shakes his head. They tried to save him, but couldn't get to him.
-------
Rhydian holds his skull as he leaned against the mirror. He thought back to when Rune was taken. He tried his damnedest to free him, but failed and then his failure cost their kingdom, their home. His brother, Runar gently touches his shoulder, but he shrugs it off. His brother would've been a king if they protected Rune better. He hated how he failed and was afraid to make friends, but still desperately craved them while Rune forsook friendship and trust.
"Let's go, bro..." Rhydian moves past Runar and goes to train or something. Runar sighs and nods.
"Alright, Rhydian..." Runar quietly mumbles as he leaves with his brother.
Runar was struggling with his failure to protect his brothers. Rune had become so cold-hearted while Rhydian became distant and harsh. He tried to stop the people, but they didn't listen to him. He couldn't stop Rune when he destroyed the kingdom or the people. He couldn't stop Rune from forsaking friendship and trust. He was a failure as an older brother. He failed his parents and failed his brothers. He should've tried harder, he knows.
Rune keeps his secrets better than they could... Which makes him a secret holder so fitting for him. So fitting it hurt.
Had this idea for a Secret Boss earlier today that I thought was too good to not flesh out.
Following in the footsteps of Petaly (Rattel_M_Bones) and Serif (Emihead) being bastardized versions of UNDERTALE characters, it’s Dwing!
Dwing bares an unsettling resemblance to much more important figure but the two are completely unrelated. Dwing has literally no lore, and just showed up one day, as opposed to Gaster disappearing one day. Basically everything about Dwing is one massive playful jab at the UTDR community’s wild assumptions about Gaster.
Dwing’s speech quirk is that he uses Wingdings symbols to describe how he’s feeling. (Ex: DUDE I’M SO HAPPY RIGHT NOW ☺︎)
Dwing’s Art Corner (I drew him in a doodlier, messier style than my usual because I felt it fit him better, plus it just adds to his silly vibe!)
Update: The art you’re seeing above is outdated! I recently made a revamped version of Dwing, which can be seen below:
