Have not been able to stop thinking about this all morning. Like… picture this: The crew of the Revenge captures the crew of the Concorde. As they’re sizing up their captives, Ed notes how inept two of the sailors seem to be. When he talks to them, they mention they’re actually musicians and they’re just working as sailors for now to cover costs (and also, as they insist, as part of their over seas tour).

“Musicians?” Stede says excitedly when he hears. “Well, go on, play us a tune! I’d love to hear!” And before Ed can stop him, Stede is freeing them from their bonds.

Cut to Bret and Jemaine standing on the ship’s deck with everyone gathered round for the performance. Bret clears his throat and awkwardly announces, “Hi everyone, we are the Crew of the Concorde and this is our song ‘Mermaids.’”

The song starts off uncomfortably with just Bret on ukulele before it cuts to full instrumental and a musical sequence of them performing on the ship (interspersed with shots of everyone else looking absolutely baffled or even annoyed by the song, except Stede who looks absolutely enraptured). Once the song ends, there’s an awkward silence before Stede (and ONLY Stede) gives an uproarious applause.

“These guys are great!” He proclaims to Ed in excitement. “With a proper manager, I think these guys could really go somewhere!” But as he turns to talk to the musicians, he’s stopped by Ed’s hand on his shoulder. Stede turns in confusion and Ed shakes his head.

“It’s never gonna happen, mate.”
