FILM crews have once again visited the Redlands, with Paramount Pictures shooting at Mount Cotton for feature film Monster Problems.

Filming took place at Sirromet Winery on April 4, 5 and 8. 

It follows filming of crime drama film Reef Break in the Redlands earlier this year, as well as Netflix series Tidelands in 2018 and Aquaman in 2017. 

Monster Problems - a coming of age film about a young man living in a post-apocalyptic world overrun by monsters - reportedly stars Dylan O'Brien from television series Teen Wolf, Michael Rooker from Guardians of the Galaxy and Avengers: Infinity War's Ariana Greenblatt.

Its crew includes Stranger Things producers Shawn Levy and Dan Cohen, as well as Insurgent writer Brian Duffield.

Monster Problems will be the first production to film in Brisbane's new $12 million fit-for-purpose Screen Queensland Studios, based in Hemmant.

Screen Queensland chief Tracey Vieira said the production would create about 260 job opportunities for Queensland crew and provide four attachment opportunities to train Queenslanders in areas of skills shortage.

"Attracting Monster Problems provides enormous direct economic benefits with the entire production on track to spend more than $29 million directly in Queensland and utilise hundreds of small businesses in the region spanning facilities, equipment purchases and rental suppliers, construction materials, transport, catering, make-up and equipment hire," Ms Vieira said.

"As well as filming at the Screen Queensland Studios, Monster Problems will also showcase Queensland's stunning and diverse locations to an international audience and we'll maximise tourism opportunities available during the filming and when released in cinemas around the world."

Monster Problemsis the second Paramount Pictures movie to be shot in Queensland in the last year, with a live-action version of Dora the Explorer filmed on the Gold Coast in mid-2018.

An overwhelmed Mount Cotton man has described the timing of his million-dollar Wednesday Gold Lotto fortune as “impeccable”, after recently losing his family home in the northern New South Wales bushfires.

The Redlands resident held the only division one winning entry nationally in Monday & Wednesday Gold Lotto draw 3937 on Wednesday 8 January 2020. He takes home a prize of $1 million.

Yesterday morning, a Golden Casket official contacted the man who was oblivious to his win and already at work.

“Did I win one million dollars?” he questioned. “Am I seeing things? Is this real? Wow. This is unreal. “Thank you so much.

His family had just lost their home in the bushfires in northern New South Wales and it wasn’t insured.

“I can’t wait to go home and give my wife a big kiss and a cuddle! The entry was marked with her special numbers and now they’ve delivered in a big way. This is a miracle!”

The emotional winner said he hoped his unexpected windfall symbolised the beginning of better things to come.

“This really has come at the most incredible time,” he said. “All that was left of the home was a few charred teacups. We didn’t know if we would ever be able to rebuild but now we definitely can!”

The winner, who wishes to remain anonymous, purchased his winning entry online at thelott.com – Australia’s official lotteries.

The winning numbers in Monday & Wednesday Gold Lotto draw 3937 on Wednesday 8 January 2020 were 9, 42, 24, 13, 22 and 11 while the supplementary numbers were 26 and 1.

Paramount Players’ Monster Problems films on Redlands Coast

The diverse locations of naturally wonderful Redlands Coast are set to be internationally recognised with feature film Monster Problems from Paramount Players, a division of Paramount Pictures, filming in the area this month.

Monster Problems, starring Dylan O’Brien (Bumblebee, Maze Runner), Jessica Henwick (Iron Fist, Game Of Thrones), Michael Rooker (The Walking Dead, Guardians of the Galaxy) and Ariana Greenblatt (Avengers: Infinity War, Stuck in the Middle), was brought to the state by the Queensland Government’s Production Attraction Strategy administered by Screen Queensland.

Redland City Mayor Karen Williams said Redlands Coast had benefitted from Monster Problems being the first production to film in the new $12 million Screen Queensland Studios, based at Hemmant.

“Film-friendly Redlands Coast – with its naturally wonderful locations and close proximity to the new Screen Queensland Studios – is pleased to welcome more than 150 cast and crew of Monster Problems to the city during April,” Cr Williams said.

“Redlands Coast locations that will feature in Monster Problems include Mount Cotton and Alexandra Hills,” Cr Williams said.

Screen Queensland CEO Tracey Vieira said Paramount’s Monster Problems would create approximately 260 job opportunities for Queensland crew with additional days for cast and extras, and provide four attachment opportunities to train Queenslanders in areas of skills shortage.

Monster Problems is the latest addition to a growing list of productions that have filmed on Redlands Coast. Other noteworthy productions to have filmed on the Coast include Tidelands, Reef Break, Aquaman, Harrow (Seasons 1 and 2), Safe Harbour, Hoges, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, Unbroken and The Chronicles of Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader.
