Twins Wallop Cubs 16-3!
Cubs 3 Twins 16 W-Varland (1-0) L-Stroman (2-4)
The Minnesota Twins bats seemed to wake up yesterday with five home runs. They stayed hot today on Mother’s Day at Target Field. It all started in the first inning with an Alex Kirilloff one-out single to center. Carlos Correa doubled him home and the Twins had a one-run lead after an inning of play. The Twins got back to work in a big way in the third as Carlos Correa lined a one-out single to center and Byron Buxton singled. Trevor Larnach followed and crushed a Marcus Stroman slider out to right for a three-run homer. Kyle Farmer doubled and Nick Gordon doubled him home. Christian Vazquez singled home another run and Joey Gallo belted a Stroman fastball out to right. This capped off a seven-run third and the Twins lead grew to eight. The Cubs found a little offense in the fourth with a Christopher Morel homer off a Louie Varland fastball. Chicago got within a touchdown and continued to inch closer in the seventh. Seiya Suzuki hammered a Louie Varland cutter out to left for a solo shot and Trey Mancini drew a one-out walk. Matt Mervis singled and Nick Madrigal lined a run-scoring single to right. This pulled Chicago within five and the Twins added on in the bottom of the seventh. Byron Buxton led-off with a single to center and Jorge Polanco walked. With one-out Kyle Farmer knocked in a run with an infield single. It got ugly in the eighth as Alex Kirilloff led-off with a double to right. He reached third on a wild pitch and Carlos Correa hit an RBI groundout to second. Jorge Polanco and Trevor Larnach doubled and Miles Mastrobuoni came onto pitch. Kyle Farmer singled and Nick Gordon doubled. Christian Vazquez singled home a run and Joey Gallo took him deep for a two-run homer. The Twins had a 16-3 lead and Jorge Alcala had a 1-2-3 ninth as they took the series from the Cubs this weekend. 
-Final Thoughts- Louie Varland was very good today and tossed 6 1/3 solid innings. He gave up three runs on four hits with a walk and seven strikeouts. Emilio Pagan got out of the seventh and Jorge Lopez had a scoreless eighth. Jorge Alcala had a perfect ninth. Kyle Farmer had three hits to lead the team. Alex Kirilloff, Carlos Correa, Byron Buxton, Trevor Larnach, Nick Gordon, and Christian Vazquez had two hits each. The Twins hit 7-for-14 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. Tomorrow, Pablo Lopez faces Noah Syndergaard as the Twins head to Los Angeles for a week.

Twins Edge Rays 2-1!
Rays 1 Twins 2 W-Albers (1-0) L-Fairbanks (1-1) SV-Waddell (1)
The Minnesota Twins returned back home for their first night game of the home spring schedule. The Tampa Bay Rays made the short trip South in a low-scoring affair from Fort Myers tonight. The Rays bats got things going in the second inning as Mike Brosseau smacked a Kenta Maeda slider out to right for a solo homer. This put the Rays up 1-0 after two innings of play. The Twins offense couldn’t figure out Michael Wacha for the first four innings and finally got the bats rolling in the fifth. Mitch Garver started it all with a one-out single to right. Andrelton Simmons reached on an error by second basemen Miles Mastrobuoni. Kyle Garlick hit a sac fly to left to tie the game at one after five frames. The Twins got back to work in the sixth as Josh Donaldson singled to second with one out. Nelson Cruz lined a single down the right field line and pinch-runner Keon Broxton chugged all the way around the bases. He scored on the base hit to put the Twins up 2-1. Kenta Maeda threw 5 1/3 very good innings and the Twins bullpen did the rest. Andrew Albers got the final two outs of the sixth. Hansel Robles had a hitless seventh and Brandon Waddell struck out five over two scoreless innings. The Twins snapped a four-game losing streak with the win at home tonight. 
-Final Thoughts- Kenta Maeda continued his great spring tonight with a very good outing. He threw 5 1/3 innings and allowed a run on four hits with six strikeouts. He has a 0.63 ERA this spring. Andrew Albers got the final two outs of the sixth. Hansel Robles struck out one in the seventh. Brandon Waddell was impressive with five strikeouts over two innings. The Twins scattered five hits and hit 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position. They left four men on base as well. Tomorrow the Twins make the trip up to Sarasota to play the Orioles. JA Happ will face Jorge Lopez in a Sunday matinee.

Twins Double Up Rays 10-5!
Rays 5 Twins 10 W-Stewart (1-0) L-Yarbrough (0-1)
The Minnesota Twins started off Spring Training with a split-squad day. They lost the first game to the Orioles in Sarasota then went back home to take on the Rays at Hammond Stadium. The Twins gave the home crowd something to cheer about with a nice performance tonight. The Rays got the scoring started in the first inning. Joey Wendle walked with one out then Brandon Lowe delivered an RBI double to right. The Twins offense was ready in the bottom of the first. Jorge Polanco led-off and reached on a Joey Wendle error. Nelson Cruz was hit by a pitch with one out and Eddie Rosario plated a run with a base hit to center. This tied the game at one, but the Twins were far from done. CJ Cron singled and Byron Buxton plated a pair with a single to center. Willians Astudillo added a sacrifice fly and the Twins led 4-1 after one frame. The Rays would answer in the top of the second. Jesus Sanchez walked with one out then Andrew Velazques singled to left. Later in the inning, Austin Meadows hit a two-run double and the Rays were within a run. The Twins got back to work in the bottom of the third. Nelson Cruz led-off with a walk and CJ Cron reached on an infield single. Byron Buxton then drilled a Jalen Beeks offering out to left for a three-run shot. Minnesota had a 7-3 lead after three frames of action. The Twins kept hitting in the fifth inning. Caleb Hamilton reached on a throwing error and Eddie Rosario singled. CJ Cron walked to load up the bases and Aaron Whitefield walked up to the plate. Whitefield plated a pair with a single and Alex Kiriloff added a run on a error by Nick Solak. The Twins had a 10-3 lead after five innings. The Rays would still chip away at the deficit in the sixth. Moises Gomez doubled to start the inning then Guillermo Heredia singled. Michael Brosseau hit a sac fly to plate a run and the Rays were within six. Moises Gomez and Michael Brosseau walked to ignited a rally in the eighth. Miles Mastrobuoni singled home a run. This put Tampa Bay within five. Jeff Ames got out of the jam in the eighth and DJ Baxendale had a clean ninth. The Twins won a game and lost a game today in the first day of Spring Training games. 
-Final Thoughts-Kohl Stewart did okay in his first outing of the spring. He went one inning and allowed a run on one hit with a walk and a strikeout. Lewis Thorpe gave up two runs with two strikeouts in the second. Matt Magill had a clean third, Fernando Romero fanned two in the fourth, and Trevor Hildenberger had two strikeouts in the fifth. Adalberto Mejia allowed a run in the sixth, Andrew Vazquez had a scoreless seventh, and Jeff Ames gave up a run in the eighth. DJ Baxendale closed out the ninth with a clean frame. Eddie Rosario, CJ Cron, and Byron Buxton had two hits each. Buxton drove in five runs tonight. The team hit 5-for-9 with runners in scoring position and left four men on base. Tomorrow, the Twins head to JetBlue Park. Martin Perez will face Ryan Weber in a Sunday matinee.
