Rune Factory Ficlet

Mist/Lynette: Established Relationship

Lynette sat in Mist’s home, that had somehow become her own, nearly tangled in yarn. Despite her best efforts, she found life in Kardia to be too quiet, and she needed to do something with her hands. Mist had suggested knitting and now Lynette regretted ever listening to her. She only had a fraction of a scarf, and a deep, dwelling hatred for this skein of yarn. She threw it to the side, deciding she would clean it later. She stood and stretched. Mist should be getting home soon, and Lynette would be damned if she was seen sitting on the floor like a kitten lost in yarn. 

Like clockwork, Mist burst in through the door. She was smiling from ear to ear, as she grabbed Lynette by the wrist.

“Don’t ask any questions, just follow me,” she said, dragging Lynette out the door. Lynette followed, confused. She was used to Mist’s whimsy, but occasionally she was left off balance by how different this was than her old life. Before her days were full of drills, training, keeping her soldiers in line. Now she spent her days wandering Kardia, eating with Mist, or fighting with that damn yarn. She had never been more at peace, and although Mist would say it came from being “at harmony with nature,” Lynette thought it partially had something to do with Mist.   

Mist led her down the roads of Kardia, heading toward the beach. They didn’t slow in pace, and Lynette would have found being led by her arm by a girl she had at least four inches on insulting a year ago. Just another thing that had taken a nose-dive in her life was her pride, and she couldn’t say she missed it.

When they finally stopped running they were at the beach, and both women were breathless. Lynette looked around to see what Mist could possibly dragged her out for.

“What am I supposed to be seeing?” she asked. Mist held a finger up as she caught her breath, then finally rose up and pointed at the sky.

“Look how beautiful the sunset is over the ocean,” she said. Lynette looked at her for a moment, wondering if that was really it. She’d seen plenty of sunsets, was it really worth running here for? She turned, and faced the ocean, and the sight took her breath away.

She’d seen a lot of sunsets, she realized, but she rarely saw them. The colors melted together in a mixture of purples and reds and oranges. She stood, mystified that she had never truly noticed the beauty in it. Had she always been so blind to the magic in the world? Mist had a habit of showing her the things she thought she knew, but in a totally different light.

Mist came up beside her, tangling their fingers.

“Lovely, isn’t it?” she asked. Lynette could only nod. She had so much to learn. So much she still needed to see. 

“Thank you, Mist,” she said, tears stinging at her eyes. Mist beamed up at her. Lynette leaned down, pressing a chaste kiss to her lips. They settled on the sand, watching as the sun went down, Mist’s head on her shoulder. They didn’t move until the horizon swallowed the sun and the stars shone overhead. Then they walked home in amicable silence. 

Lynette didn’t know what she’d ever done without this.

Rune Factory Gaiden: Another Day

Released in 2007, Rune Factory Gaiden: Another Day is a short visual novel developed as a collaboration between Marvelous Entertainment and Liveware Inc. It was only released for flip-phones and served as extra stories between Raguna, the heroines of the original Rune Factory, and some of the other villagers. Think of this game as providing the heart events that the original Rune Factory lacked (aside from the marriage events). 

This game was released as season trilogies containing three routes each, meaning there are Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter versions.

This service did cost money to play. I could not find the exact price for each route, but I did find a Bokujou Monogatari game, also made as a collaboration between Liveware and Marvelous, which had a monthly subscription of about 300 yen per month, so I would guess that it would be around the same price or more, though I’m guessing a little more since this would be a one-time purchase.

Unfortunately, Liveware has since went under. The company’s website is shut down (you can visit the website but it has nothing of interest - any research on them should be done via Wayback Machine), and I do not believe you can access these games anymore. If anyone has any leads on how to access these games in any capacity, please do not hesitate to let me know!

@sharance-maze asked me to do a little headcanon thing for Lynette so here it is!

-she’s an intj personality type

-spears are her preferred weapon, but she’s decent at most forms of combat

-she suffers from a lack of purpose after leaving the sechs empire, and as a result spirals into depression

-she can cook but everything she makes is rather bland 

-she starts to come out of her depression by helping Raguna on his farm, and when he leaves for trampoli, she moves into his house and tends the fields

-she lets Raguna pass his monsters on to Camus when he leaves, believing she can’t take care of them herself with her background, but eventually finds and nurses back to health an injured chiori

-after this she gains confidence and brings together her own small hoard

-she lost vision in her eye from an infection when she was a child

-never had much time to read during her time as a soldier, but after settling in kardia, she bonds with Russel and discovers a love for novels

-has a sister back in the sechs empire who she misses desperately, and often considers sending her a letter 

-has a bad knee and is particularly afflicted by it when the weather gets bad

-can out drink about anyone like she can go toe to toe with sabrina

-eventually becomes a loved member of kardia and spends the rest of her days there

⚪ - what are small things that mean something to your muse

It will always mean the most to him if gifts or items received are handmade or personally commissioned. Some level of individual input comes through as “I thought of you, made you this, and am giving it to you” hits all the right points. Raguna in that sense is very much a treat others how you want to be treated kind of guy. Because he’s usually out there doing the same. As simple as folded paper or baking cookies. It’s not hard to make him smile.

😠 - what is something or someone your muse has ever hated or hates

Low hanging fruit here, but Ethelberd- the primary villain from Rune Factory 1 was the kind of warmongering ruler who crushed others beneath his foot and subjugated and manipulated them into doing evil deeds for him, see- Lynette. The kind of person who disregards human life and only sees power or greed and cannot be brought to reason? Get cucked. Gelwein from RF Frontier hits a few of these notes as well, abusing the Iris twins as well as kidnapping mist so that he could gain power and exact revenge on those who wouldn’t listen to him. Petty shit hits the bad notes.

💥 - is your muse reckless? or too cautious and paranoid?

He’s... a little bit of both? He’ll overprepare for exploration and exploring on the one hand- carrying plenty of potions, bringing along a huge sword, and some rations in case he needs to top up... not to mention seeds for planting the titular rune factories in the wilderness of caves and ruins. On the other hand if someone is in trouble or needs help he won’t hesitate to jump in. Different situations call for different amounts of pause. He’ll prepare if he has the chance, but he won’t wait if other options aren’t present. On the whole, I would say he leans towards the cautious, since many preparations he makes getting ready for the day prepare him for assisting

Everything is a got. Damn. Mystery since she left the military, you and Mist are her primary ways of understanding the world around her.

Not that it feels like it does much good, as she more often than not still questions the why...but trust me, it’s getting to her and she understands a little more with each passing day.

There’s a difference between everlasting confusion and being educated enough to understand, after all. (That being at least there’s an explanation behind what you lot do.)

She quite likes the festivals, though. There’s something nice about harmony...and seeing you interact with the others.

It’s all such a joyful place and it’s weird, but welcome and she accepts this.

You, especially. She’s super biased when it comes to you and is slightly hard pressed to admit it, but it’s true and it does show if you know what to look for.

Specifically that little glimmer in her eye when you give her a four-leaf clover. Such a simple, if hard-to-find gift, but she beams at it. It’s a delight to witness!

Dating? Scoops up the nerve to hold your hand. Don’t look at her like that! She’s doing her best!

Her favorite thing is listening to your interests, though. It’s a quick way to learn a bunch!

By telling her what your interests are, she: learns a little more about you, might learn some more about Kardia through that, and- if it catches her interest- might even try it for herself...

Maybe. When you’re not looking. Just to try it.

(Unless she realizes a hidden talent for it. Then she’s off to you in a heartbeat. “Look. Look! I did this thing.”)

She just likes spending time with you and helping out where she can. Especially in the way of food. You hungry? She’s got this.

Would lowkey like to cook together with you sometime!!!

Lynette can be so strong and bold...but call her something cute and she goes down like a house of cards in a brisk wind... It’s a little funny, but a LOT more cute~!

things i would Really like to see from the rune factory series before we get a rune factory 5, if they can ever happen:

- rune factory 1 remake

- rune factory 2 remake, but a rf1 remake would have to come first with this one out of fairness

- rune factory frontier switch port that fixes the runey system

Back before Rune Factory 4, I was interested in making up my own idea for an RF game. Just exploring ideas that would make a good game in that world. After Rune Factory 4 got released, and then I eventually played it, I expanded this idea more and had an idea that I was quite fond of.

It has details taken from RF1, 2, 3, and 4. At the beginning of the game, after choosing which character you want to play as (the male or female protagonist), the other protagonist would exist in the game. Although RF Oceans did include that, the role the other protagonist would play in this fangame idea is something that I’ve wanted in a game like this for a long time and has never truly been delved into.

What this fangame idea shares in common with other Rune Factory games:

RF1: Like Lynette, there are characters who work for the Sechs Empire who become interactable NPCs.

RF2: There are rival marriages, along with both male and female marriage candidates who will not marry anyone unless it’s the player character.

RF3: The protagonist has a part of their identity they feel they need to keep secret from the rest of the town, and it is important to the plot.

RF4: There is a god-like being like Ventuswill whose powers affect things around town and within the plot.

I may talk more about this or expand upon it more, but I’m stopping here for now. I don’t even know if it’s that interesting so I don’t want to ramble on forever...

Activity Check

Two weeks have gone by, and the current activity period has ended! This post will be listing all of the characters who have and haven’t met their post requirements, as well as provide them with their pay and expenses for the last two weeks, so be sure to read this to collect/pay your bank, and to make sure whether or not your character is in danger of being dropped!

To pass, your character must have at least FIVE RP POSTS. Music, Money Posts, and Artwork don’t count for activity unless they have an RP component to them. If your character hasn’t met the post requirement, then they will fail. If they fail the subsequent check, then that character will be dropped from the Masterlist. Failed characters do not get the money bonuses from the Activity Check. Instead, they will only be awarded 500G and whatever expenses that applies to them (rent, commuter’s pass). Hopefully you’ll be able to keep up with your activity next go-round!

If you are a new arrival to the group (as in, you’ve joined during this activity period), then you will automatically pass. Additionally, if you are a new arrival and have made FIVE RP POSTS, then you will get full benefits of the check. If not, your character’s name will have a star next to it, and they will only get 1,000G for passing. This only applies to new arrivals that have been here for a majority of the activity period. If your character has joined in the week of the activity check, they will also be allowed full benefits. This is also applicable for people with hiatuses-- if you get off of hiatus and/or report back in within the week of the activity check, you will also be allowed a pass.
