Plant of the Day
Saturday 22 June 2019
The contrast of the flower colours and forms with the pink, horizontal Achillea millefolium 'Lilac Beauty' (yarrow) and purple, vertical Salvia nemorosa 'Caradonna' (Balkan clary) provide a dramatic display. Both of these herbaceous perennials grow best in full sun. The pruned tree in the background is Pyrus salicifolia ‘Pendula’ (weeping silver pear).

Architectural Plants You Can Consider Getting for Your Small Garden
You have a small space in the back and you want to create a garden there. But you cannot seem to fit any trees or plants in your garden architectural plan. You know that you have to include some trees and plants but what to do? Which plants to use? How do you add one of the core architectural garden elements to your garden?
Tumblr media
Well, you just need to choose the right plant. There are plenty of architectural plants for small gardens you just have to know it. Here are some of the most beautiful trees that will fit right in your small garden and increase the aesthetic value of the place.
Japanese Maples
Japanese maples are a beautiful plant that will increase the aesthetic of your garden. With a blazing autumn color and a shapely growth, they are the perfect ornament for your garden. Their growth is perfect for small gardens as they don’t overcrowd and take up space fast.
When you plant a Japanese maple make sure you are placing it in a sheltered place away from direct sunlight. You can also try growing the plant in a large tub. That has yielded good results for people.
Topiary Shapes
While these are not the usual choice for someone and might not be traditional in some ways they make up for it with their versatility. Topiary bay, box, and you can be utilized in different places.
You can find ready-trained lollipops, pyramid, or spirals in the market. Or if you are an enthusiast you can train one to your liking.
Crab Apple
These trees are just great overall. It will provide food for wildlife, has colorful fruit and even has a spring blossom. All the things prized in a garden tree or plant can be found in this tree.
If you are planting a “John Downie” then you can even, make crab apple jelly. While the ‘Golden Hornet’ is an upright variety that can help you save up space.

Stewartia pseudocamellia
This tree is better known as the deciduous camellia. They have white blooming flowers in summer. This brings a plethora of beautiful pollinators which will only increase the aesthetic.
During Autumn it puts on a display of crimson leaves which in itself becomes a sight to behold. When you plant this make sure you put it in a place where people can easily see it.
Pyrus salicifolia ‘Pendula’
A beautiful tree, Pyrus salicifolia ‘Pendula’ simply adds elegance to the ambiance. It has scenic slim, silvery foliage and slender weeping branches.
And in spring has a white sweetly scented blossom. Trust me this just adds to the garden. They can survive in any soil type as long as they are planted in a place where the sun shines brightly.
Plant Something Beautiful
There you go, these are my top choices for architectural plants for a small garden. While these are amazing trees they are not the only ones.
There are plenty of beautiful trees and plants out there to beautify your own small garden. Make sure you do ample research to find what enhances your garden and implement those properly.

Plant of the Day
Thursday 3 October 2019
The distinctive, black stems and dark foliage of Symphyotrichum 'Glow in the Dark' (aster, New England aster, Michaelmas daisy) show off the semi-double, lilac flowers. Here repeat plantings of this disease resistant cultivar provides splashes of colour for the autumn against the formal features in this garden, including a shaped Pyrus salicifolia 'Pendula' (weeping silver pear).
