hogwarts legacy characters as dragons in wings of fire because i can’t get this out of my head. if you haven’t read WoF i tried to give my best reasonings as to why i chose which character so i hope it makes sense lol. this will be… long… feel free to like. skim. i’m definitely doing a part 2 for side characters because this is rotting my brain
this contains spoilers for both Hogwarts Legacy and Wings of Fire! proceed with caution if you haven’t completed both/either!
Aurelia (my MC):
for Aurelia, the choice was easy. and NO. I DID NOT JUST PICK SNOWFALL BC SHES MY FAVOURITE.
Peril is an obvious choice for her. she was born with Firescales, meaning she burns anything she touches. for most of her life, she was used as Queen Scarlet’s personal weapon in her gladiator arena; no one ever survived fighting her. because of this, after the events of Book 1, when she finally can live her own life, she struggles with self-loathing and anxiety. she’s always been a weapon, and she thinks she always will be. she’s scared of what she can do to others, either on purpose or by accident. she’s scared of herself. in my mind, Aurelia struggles with the same internalised fear. after mastering Ancient Magic, and seeing what it can do, it scares her. She doesn’t want to hurt anyone.
Snowfall was a bit more difficult but i still think it fits. after her mother suddenly died from the magic plague, Snowfall was thrust onto the throne quickly. she’s the youngest queen in IceWing history; and she wants to prove herself. she is also thoroughly paranoid for a lot of Book 14. is she good enough? will she be a strong enough leader? can she protect everyone? her struggles with imposter syndrome and inferiority at times are reminiscent of how i imagine Aurelia is. she’s brave and loyal to a fault, but also feels like she’s failing everyone around her.
Sebastian:
this one was very easy as well. Starflight and Tsunami! (honourable mention: Deathbringer. if you know, you know)
Starflight is very much like Sebastian in some ways. most notably? he’s a total nerd. he reads anything and everything he can get his claws on; and he’s wicked smart. he can air on the side of know-it-all at times, but he has good intentions. he can also just. memorise things he reads very quickly. rather terrifying, honestly.
I felt that Tsunami fit well because… they’re VERY much alike. she is headstrong, brash, and quick to fight, but also deeply loyal and caring. she will never back down from a fight, and would die to protect her loved ones. also… in Book 1, in Queen Scarlet’s arena, Tsunami is forced to battle Gill, a SeaWing who was driven mad during his imprisonment. in the next book, it’s revealed that Gill was Tsunami’s father. to me, this is reminiscent of Sebastian killing Solomon. while not the same as a gladiator ring where it was kill or be killed, both Seb and Tsunami struggle with intense regret, guilt, and self hatred following their respective incidents. Tsunami has frequent night terrors about killing Gill, even before learning that he was her father.
another important detail is Tsunami’s devotion to her sisters. when Queen Coral’s last (female) egg is at risk, Tsunami volunteers to watch it day and night, even though she could very well be killed in the process. the egg hatches into her baby sister, Auklet, whom she loves very much. do i even need to explain how similar this is to Seb doing *anything* to find a cure for Anne.
Ominis:
i had a difficult time at FIRST but then it came to me. like i was punched in the face with how obvious it is. Winter and Tamarin!
seriously, Winter is literally dragon Ominis. he comes from a family of dragon royalty, kind of like the Gaunts being descended from Salazar Slytherin. Winter’s parents suck. like, a lot. specifically his mother. they treat him poorly. his siblings, too, aren’t the best. Hailstorm is a loving brother, but after the Pyrite incident he struggles with his identity and isn’t there for his little brother. Icicle is a loyal sister, but to the point where she frequently commits heinous crimes and attempts murder more than once because…. yeah. she’s also not nice to Winter, at all. Winter doesn’t think he’s worth much since his own family thinks that way. he also is prickly and rude when he’s first introduced, because of his insecurities and inner turmoil, however, once the others get to know him, he’s actually a kind, smart, loyal friend.
Tamarin is also a similar character. she, like Ominis, was born blind and had to learn how to navigate herself. while she had the support of the other RainWings, it’s heavily implied that Ominis didn’t have help from anyone and that his parents resented his blindness. Tamarin is a survivor; she goes through several hardships, i.e the cactus bomb going off while she’s in the library, and she perseveres through it all. Much like how Ominis survives his *incredibly* shitty family and finds himself a better place to be (Feldcroft 💚). in Book 3, Tamarin is chosen as the competitor for the scavenger hunt competition; and Queen Magnificent thinks that’s hilarious. she undermines Tamarin’s ability to compete because of her disability. however, Tamarin *dominates* the competition and wins easily. we often see Ominis underestimated and overlooked, but in reality, he’s an amazingly capable wizard who can use his blindness as an asset, rather than letting it make his life harder.
Natty:
i'm still a little on the fence on this, but i feel like they fit pretty accurately. Luna and Glory; badass and brave!
Luna!!! where do i start with her?? bold. smart. impulsive to the point where it’s almost reckless. she’s deeply loyal to her friends and family, and she’s got a big heart. she can be suspicious, and doesn’t like to leave loose ends hanging, much like Natty. we see Natty go above and beyond in her sleuthing and “there is something not right here” sense to bring Harlowe down. makes me think SO MUCH of Luna and Queen Wasp/the Othermind.
Glory is also very similar to Natty. insanely brave, a natural leader, generous, fair, and above all, will do just about anything to protect her friends and tribe. the scene in which Glory challenges Magnificent for the RainWing throne, because Magnificent can’t be fucked to go save the loads of RainWings that were kidnapped, it makes me think a lot of Natty. she put herself on the line to defeat the Ashwinders and even took a Cruciatus curse to protect her friend. i know for a fact that Glory wouldn’t hesitate to do the exact same thing. they’re both also a bit sarcastic and can be assertive/mean when they need to be.
Garreth:
Mastermind and Jambu just fit Garreth so well. SO WELL
i know Mastermind is a controversial choice. i know. but hear me out. Mastermind is a smart, very experimental dragon with a thirst for knowledge. he does wild tests and such to prove his theories. now, while Garreth does his own little experiments in the safety of the potions classroom (even thought they occasionally explode), and he is a very lovely individual? Mastermind preforms his tests on other dragons and basically tortures them. so yes on experimenting, but they are different in every other way.
NOW! Jambu! Jambu is a very sweet, yet goofy and un-serious guy. and that’s why i picked him lmfao. they are both just. silly. Garreth can definitely be serious when the situation arises, and he’s definitely very smart. not that Jambu isn’t but… we haven’t really ever seen him be serious… and sometimes it seems like his intelligence can be… lacking…?
Amit:
for Amit, it only felt natural to pick the two smartest, yet most anxious (bar Starflight) night-themed dragons there are; Moonwatcher and Clearsight.
Moonwatcher pops into my mind every time i think of Amit. they are both shy, but very smart, and studious. we see Amit does have a brave side, when him and MC take on the goblin mine for the drill blueprints. similarly, Moon literally helps defeat a genocidal maniac who is basically a god. they both sort of back out after that. not that they aren’t immensely helpful and important characters, but they have done their part and are… more than happy to take a less dangerous part in the journey.
Clearsight is smart. insanely smart. her unique foresight ability that allows her to see every possible future is very reminiscent to me of Amit and how he studies the stars. Darkstalker describes Clearsight’s mind as fascinating. she is always thinking and planning and worrying. that is literally Amit in a nutshell. boy can help but be anxious 24/7. in general, i think Amit would fit in with the pre-volcano pre-Darkstalker NightWings; studious, smart, always looking to the stars and moon… that’s just. him.
if you made it this far you’re literally amazing but also probably just as insane as me lmfao
