Daily news wrap: Bihar phase II polls, 19 dead in Afghan university attack & more
Tumblr media
At four back to back rallies at Chhapra, Samastipur, Motihari and Bahuarwa (West Champaran) that brought a close to campaigning for the second and penultimate phase of Bihar polls on Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi exerted his super star thrust on the NDA campaign that has been carpet bombing Bihar with an array of star campaigners ranging from UP CM Yogi Adityanath to star Bhojpuri singer Nirahua.
The PM targeted the lone Mahagathbandhan crowd puller: its CM face Tejashwi Prasad Yadav. The latter, who was dismissed as a mere pretender just weeks ago, was acknowledged as the NDA’s challenger. In rally after rally, PM Modi referred to the RJD leader as ‘jungle raj ka yuvraj’.
While the NDA’s chosen leader in Bihar – CM Nitish Kumar – seemed slipping on his ‘15 years vs 15 years’ campaign, the PM recalled the 15 years of the Lalu-Rabri raj as the jungle raj which, he reiterated, must not be allowed a rerun.

BJP to form 1000 Farmer Producer Organisations for Bihar farmers: PM Modi
Tumblr media
SAMASTIPUR: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday that Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has decided to form 1000 Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs) for farmers and creation of a fund of Rs 1 lakh crores for agriculture infrastructure. BJP has decided to form 1000 Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) for farmers in Bihar. Also, Central Govt has created a fund of Rs 1 lakh crores for agriculture infrastructure for our farmers: Prime Minister Narendra Modi at an election rally in Samastipur. Prime Minister lashed out at Mahagathbandhan and accused them of making every move in politics for personal and family benefits. “On one side, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is committed to democracy, and on the other side is ‘Parivar Tantra Gathbandhan’ for purely personal benefits. NDA government stands for ‘sabka saath, sabka vikas,” Prime Minister said while addressing his second rally of the day in Samastipur on Sunday. Continuing his jibe on this line he further criticised the Congress party for not remembering or paying tribute to Sardar Patel. “Sardar Patel was a great patriot and belonged to everyone, but Congress has limited itself to a family that they didn’t remember him on his birth anniversary yesterday,” PM Modi further said. While lauding NDA’s efforts for the betterment of poor and marginalised people, the prime minister attacked the Mahagathbandhan once again. “They are not concerned with poor’s problems. During elections, they start playing the ‘poor’ cards, but after the election, they see their families only. (Chunav me Gareeb-Gareeb ka mala japne lagye hain, chunav ke baad sirf apna parivar dikhayi deta hai),” PM Modi added. “Bihar is the holy land which gave a lesson of democracy to the world. This is the holy land from where the seed of democracy sprouted. Look at the map of the country, on one side, NDA is committed to democracy, and on the other side is ‘parivar tantra gathbandhan’. NDA government is for ‘sabka saath, sabka vikas’. What have these family-run political parties given you? They made big houses for themselves, bought luxurious cars for themselves. They gave tickets to people of their own family. But have any relative of Nitish Kumar reached Rajya Sabha? People who work for Democracy give an opportunity to every citizen,” the Prime Minister said. The Prime Minister further stated that the indications from the first phase show that NDA is making a clean sweep in Bihar.”We have talked to the political pundits and some journalists and everyone believes that in the first phase NDA is making a clean sweep. If today all trends are pointing towards the victory of NDA, that is because of our mothers and sisters who are ensuring a victory of our government and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar,” the Prime Minister earlier said at Chhapra. He also thanked the people who showed up at the rally amid COVID-19 restrictions and said it is a clear indication of the results of the assembly election. The first phase of Bihar assembly elections to 71 seats was held on October 28. The remaining 172 assembly constituencies of the 243-member assembly will go to polls on November 3 and November 7.The elections for the second phase of polls for 94 assembly constituencies will be held on November 3 and the results are scheduled to be announced on November 10.

Amit Shah accuses Cong of tacitly approving Kashmir secession from India
Munger/Begusarai/Ujiyarpur (Bihar):BJP president Amit Shah on Wednesday tore into the Rahul Gandhi-led Congress and its allies accusing them of staying soft on terror and of tacitly approving Kashmirs secession from India. Shah also lambasted the Congress for coming up with promises of scrapping the Armed Forces Particular Powers Act (AFSPA) and abolition of sedition regulation in its poll manifesto and declared that these kinds of moves would be stoutly opposed by the BJP even if it was no more time in ability. The BJP main was on a whirlwind election tour of Bihar exactly where he spoke at 3 back-to-again rallies at Munger, Begusarai and Ujiyarpur in as lots of Lok Sabha constituencies. In Munger, BJP’s ally JD(U) applicant Rajiv Ranjan Singh Lallan, a close associate of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is in the fray. Union minister Giriraj Singh is making an attempt his luck from Begusarai even though at Ujiyarpur in Samastipur district point out BJP president Nityanand Rai is the NDA nominee. When elections were being remaining held in Jammu and Kashmir, leaders of the Nationwide Convention which is a Congress ally came out with the need that the post of Prime Minister be restored in that condition. “For the previous fortnight, I have been challenging the Congress to occur clear on the situation. But Gandhi is silent and so is his allies like Lalu and Rabri Devi (RJD leaders, allies of the Congress in Bihar)”, Shah stated at his rally in Ujiyarpur. Can any state have far more than 1 Prime Minister. The Congress and its allies want Kashmir to secede from India. It is for the voters to make a decision irrespective of whether it is suitable, Shah alleged referring to former J-K Chief Minister Omar Abdullahs controversial assertion favoring restoration of the business of Wazir-e-Azam. With the surgical strikes following Uri terror attack and the air strikes following Pulwama, India found by itself on par with the US and Israel which are identified to act difficult towards terrorism. But the leaders of the Congress created faces as if a tragedy had befallen on them. Their facial expressions resembled all those of the Pakistanis. Ended up terrorists blown to smithereens by our armed forces cousins of these opposition leaders, Shah requested. Enable Rahul Gandhi hear and enable Lalu listen to inside of his prison cell, you are totally free to do Ilu Ilu (a well known Bollywood song of the 1990s that abbreviated the expression I appreciate you) with terrorists. But at current Narendra Modi is the Prime Minister and he is likely to assume electricity all over again. Even when the BJP was no lengthier in power, each and every employee of the get together will oppose your designs from AFSPA and sedition regulation. “Rahul Gandhi will not be equipped to do as he pleases in his lifetime. We will make sure that soon after him if one more Gandhi rises to power, he far too does not perform with nationwide interests, Shah explained evoking frenzied reactions from the crowds. Before, talking at Begusarai in which Union minister Giriraj Singh is in a triangular contest with CPIs Kanhaiya Kumar and RJDs Tanveer Hussain, Shah launched a caustic assault on the previous JNU college students union president, who is dealing with sedition charge. You have to educate a lesson to this ‘namoona’ (sample).defeat this member of the tukde tukde gang and mail him back to Delhi for cooling his heels, Shah explained without the need of mentioning the CPI prospect by name. The BJP president also sought to arouse nationalistic sentiments by reciting numerous verses of renowned poet Ramdhari Singh Dinkar, who hailed from Begusarai. He also created a mention of slain CRPF inspector Pintu Kumar Singh, who belonged to the district, though he mistakenly identified as him a Pulwama martyr as he experienced died in an encounter with militants 3 months just after the terror attack. In Munger, wherever he tackled his very first rally, Shah also spoke at duration about the welfare steps of the Narendra Modi governing administration, enumerating its efforts in enhancing sanitation services, making cooking fuel accessible to the bad and offering no cost health and fitness insurance policies go over less than the Ayushman Bharat Yojana. He also mocked, in all his speeches, at the opposition Mahagathbandhan thinking who would be the Key Minister if it acquired a the greater part and shared a joke that he had received by way of an SMS wherein it was mentioned that the PMs submit would be shared among the regional satraps for six times of the 7 days Monday to Saturday and on Sundays the nation would go to snooze. He produced a scathing assault at the RJD, an alliance partner of the Congress in Bihar. “Memories of the 15 several years long Lalu-Rabri routine, recognized as jungle raj for the reason that of the lawlessness that characterised it, nevertheless delivers shudders to the men and women of the point out. A alter has been introduced about by the attempts of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Deputy CM Sushil Kumar Modi, the BJP president stated. The BJP main reeled out figures to highlight contribution by Modi government and that by preceding Congress-led UPA rule for the progress of Bihar. Modi had promised an support of Rs 1.25 lakh crore.
Work has started on schemes truly worth Rs 1.10 lakh crore. Rahul Gandhi arrived to the point out and challenged Modi to explain to what he did for Bihar in 5 a long time. Enable him give an account of what five generations of his household did, Shah claimed evoking cheers from the crowd. @PTI

The key political players and their roles ( ''The Demolition of Babri Masjid or Mosque'' )
The key political players and their roles : L.K. Advani — Then: BJP president :It was 1990 and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was hoping to expand its footprint nationally. In the 1984 general elections the party had won only two seats in the Lok Sabha; by 1989, the party had won over 80 seats. L.K. Advani, party president from 1989, undertook a rath yatra, which is considered directly responsible for two outcomes—the demolition of Babri Masjid on 6 December 1992 and the rise of the BJP to power. The rath (an air conditioned van re-fashioned to look like a chariot) was meant to mobilize people to converge upon Babri Masjid and began in Somnath, Gujarat. It was meant to culminate in Ayodhya but was stopped by Lalu Prasad Yadav, the then chief minister of Bihar, who ordered Advani arrested. But it had served its purpose: the BJP crossed the 100 mark in the 1991 Lok Sabha elections. When the mosque was brought down on 6 December 1992, Advani, along with other BJP leaders, was present in Ayodhya, giving speeches to crowds of kar sevaks. In 1996, BJP emerged as the single largest party in Lok Sabha and formed a short-lived government at the centre for 13 days. In 1998, the party came to power again as part of the National Democratic Alliance with Advani as home minister. He was later elevated to deputy Prime Minister. But BJP lost the 2004 and 2009 general elections, with Advani projected as its PM candidate in both. As Narendra Modi rose to prominence, Advani found himself sidelined in the party.
Current status: Retired as a senior leader of the party and doesn’t have much of a role to play any longer.
Kalyan Singh — Then: Chief minister of Uttar Pradesh; Now: Governor of Rajasthan It was the Uttar Pradesh chief minister’s duty to ensure the safety of the Babri Masjid, irrespective of his ideological leanings. But Singh’s reputation is forever sullied by the misleading statements he made in the run-up to 6 December. From written assurances to speeches in the assembly, he insisted his government would provide security to the disputed structure. Singh even submitted a four-point affidavit to the Supreme Court promising security of the mosque and assuring that only a symbolic kar seva would be allowed.
Current status: Singh resigned within hours of the Babri Masjid being demolished. He served as the UP chief minister again from September 1997 to November 1999, quit the BJP in 1999 and rejoined it in 2004. He left the party again in 2009 and joined the Samajwadi Party. In 2010, he formed a new party the Jan Kranti Party but dissolved it in 2013 before returning to the BJP. He is currently the governor of Rajasthan.
P.V. Narasimha Rao — Then: Prime minister of India; Now: He died in 2004
As the prime minister, the buck for the demolition of the Babri Masjid stopped with P.V. Narasimha Rao. The act occurred on his watch and that too despite signs that it was inevitable. Rao was the 9th Prime Minister, whose tenure saw India’s economy liberalized. Yet his legacy is destined to be tainted by the demolition. There have been tell-all books—from his physician, media adviser, senior journalists and even former President Pranab Mukherjee—who have tried to piece together this curious case of inaction in the face of an impending threat. It is believed Rao had the option to impose central rule in Uttar Pradesh in July and had even sought a contingency plan to protect the mosque. But eventually he did nothing. The Vishwa Hindu Parishad’s announcement in October of plans to perform a kar seva next to the Babri Masjid on 6 December 1990 led Rao to ask his home secretary Madhav Godbole to come up with a contingency plan. Several meetings between different players were to follow over the following days.Kalyan Singh, then chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, assured the Supreme Court that the mosque would be protected while Rao agonized over the question of dismissing the state government. Several theories have done the rounds over the years of what Rao was doing as the mosque was first overrun and then brought down by the kar sevaks and just why was this allowed to happen. History is tight-lipped on this, just as Rao himself was.'Rao' passed away in 2004.
Ashok Singhal — Then: Chief of Vishwa Hindu Parishad; Now: He died in 2015
Often called the architect of the Ram Mandir movement, Vishwa Hindu Parishad chief Ashok Singhal was one of the most important public figures from the Sangh Parivar—a man who shot into the limelight in the 1980s on the back of the Ayodhya movement.Singhal launched the Ram Janaki Rath Yatra in 1984 and demanded that locks be opened up at the Babri Masjid gates. Considered close to both L.K. Advani and Atal Bihari Vajpayee, he was present in Ayodhya on 6 December. He was disenchanted with Vajpayee after the National Democratic Alliance government under him put the Ram Janmabhoomi issue on the back burner post 1998.                                                                             'Singhal' died in 2015.
Uma Bharti — Then: BJP leader; Now: Union minister of drinking water and sanitation Bharti owes her rise to the Ram Janmabhoomi movement, and was one of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders present at the rally in Ayodhya during which the Babri Masjid was demolished. The Liberhan Commission, set up to probe the events of that day, indicted her for inciting a mob to violence. Bharti, a firebrand politician, said she took moral responsibility for the incident but added that she will fight the indictment legally as she had no hand in the destruction of the mosque.
Current status: From Madhya Pradesh chief minister (2003-2004) to being expelled from BJP to returning to the party as a Union minister, Bharti’s political career has seen many ups and downs since 6 December. She is currently Union minister of drinking water and sanitation.
Lalu Prasad — Then: Chief minister of Bihar; Now: President of Rashtriya Janata Dal On 23 October, even as L.K. Advani’s rath yatra wound its way through Bihar, one man stood up to stop its progress. Bihar chief minister Lalu Prasad ordered Advani’s arrest in Samastipur on grounds of creating communal disharmony. In an interview to Frontline magazine in 1990, Prasad said he would have given his life to preserve communal amity and that he alone ordered the arrest.
Current status: Numerous graft cases against him may have dimmed his aura but Prasad remains a force in Indian politics, and is particularly strong when it comes to upholding secular values.
Thanking you.
