#Planned Parenthood of the St. Louis Region and Southwest Missouri
Text
Trudy Ring at The Advocate:
Planned Parenthood must turn over some records on transgender health care to Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey, a judge has ruled. Bailey, a Republican, is investigating providers of gender-affirming care in the state, which has outlawed the provision of such care to minors and certain adults. His demand for information from Planned Parenthood of the St. Louis Region and Southwest Missouri came in March 2023 as part of his investigation of whether Washington University’s Pediatric Transgender Center or other health care entities in Missouri “have engaged in or are engaging in any practices declared to be unlawful,” as he stated in a letter to Planned Parenthood. The Planned Parenthood affiliate then sued Bailey in an attempt to block his demand, saying it was unauthorized and that the attorney general hadn’t shown how Planned Parenthood is directly involved in his investigation. Bailey argued that his request “should stand because he has an affidavit that alleges intentional dishonesty in Plaintiff's medical and billing practices,” St. Louis Circuit Judge Michael Stelzer wrote in his ruling. Ruling in Bailey’s favor, Stelzer said the AG’s office has “broad investigative powers” and that Bailey has the right to obtain any documents that aren’t protected by the federal Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, which provides for patient privacy.
Missouri AG Andrew Bailey (R) has been granted snooping powers on Planned Parenthood of St. Louis Region and Southwest Missouri's records for transgender health services.

I highly recommend reading the whole article. It doesn't take long, but it's well worth it. There are so many parts I want to highlight.
Professor Bridges absolutely owned that court room:
"Republican Senator Tom Cotton asked panelists testifying before the Senate Judiciary Committee on 12 July whether they condemn violence against so-called crisis pregnancy centres, nonmedical facilities intended to deter people from seeking an abortion.
“'I condemn violence,' said Ms Bridges, a professor of law at University of California Berkeley School of Law and reproductive health scholar. 'And I would like to note that forced birth is an act of violence.' "She pointed to an increase in the number of assaults, barricades and suspicious packages outside abortion clinics, as abortion rights advocates face escalating threats to abortion care following the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn the landmark, half-century precedent in Roe v Wade. "Heidi Matzke, executive director of the Alternatives Pregnancy Center in California, said crisis pregnancy centres like hers – nonmedical facilities intended to dissuade people from seeking an abortion – have been “targeted for violent assaults of vandalism, and hateful attacks online and in the media.” "Dr Colleen P McNicholas, chief medical officer of Planned Parenthood of the St Louis Region and Southwest Missouri, also condemned violence – then read the names of nine abortion providers and clinic workers who were killed for providing abortion care. “'I absolutely condemn violence against everyone, including abortion providers,' she said."
And then
"She stressed that 'people of color, specifically Black people, will feel the impact of the court’s decision in Dobbs more than any other racial group,' pointing to reporting from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention that finds that Black women are three times more likely to die from a pregnancy-related causes than white women.
....
"Texas Republican John Cornyn asked Ms Bridges whether she believes “there ought to be more Black babies aborted”.
“'[Black people] have agency, they have intelligence, they know what is best for themselves and I would love to create the conditions under which they can live lives that are filled with dignity and humanity,' Ms Bridges said."
And
"Ms Bridges also fired back at Senator Josh Hawley after the Republican senator from Missouri appeared to dismiss that transgender people could become pregnant, underscoring the myriad, far-reaching impacts of dissolving legal abortion care that the committee sought to uncover, from the legal ramifications to what committee chair Dick Durbin called a looming health crisis."

I’m an Illinoisan, and right now we are an island of abortion access in a sea of forced birth states. People will be coming from Missouri, Indiana, likely Wisconsin, and farther.
Here is where my money is going:
You can earmark donations to planned parenthood to specific clinics, and there is one in Illinois right across the border from St Louis that is expected to see thousands more people needing healthcare. Click on specific donation, then choose “IL - PP of the St Louis Region and Southwest Missouri”

Hey everyone, how are you all doing.? I know right now is a very scary time, for women, LGBT members such as myself, and pretty much everyone who isn’t your stereotypical white man in this damned country. For those who by chance haven’t heard of what has been going on in the last day or so, the Supreme court overturned Roe v. Wade, the court case that ensured safe abortions for women and bodily autonomy which a large percent of women and trans people in this country have had stripped away from them by the government, and Texas is a perfect example of that.  What scares me the most about this whole status the United States is currently in is that this is just the beginning, and same sex marriages, same sex relationships are most likely the next things to go, most likely followed by rights to birth control, rights to gender affirming care for trans people of the United States. I am no genius on politics, nor do I ever believe that’s something I want to get roped into for one reason or another, but what I do know is that we can fight back against the Supreme Court, fight back against our government, and an amazing example of this is we are the ants in A Bug’s Life, we outnumber the politicians and Supreme court 100 to 1, and it’s time we stop letting them tread all over us, stomp on our rights, destroy our spirits and forcing us to submit to them, one way to do this is to begin supporting local groups and organizations focused on helping these women get the care they need. These organizations include, but are not limited to the Planned Parenthood of the St. Louis Region & Southwest Missouri, Hope Clinic in St. Louis, National Network of Abortion Funds, Center for Reproductive Rights, and many more. Please, if you have the ability to, support and donate to these groups to help as much as you can.
I may not have a large group of people following me on this app, I may not have mutuals who I interact with but I at least I have a platform and I’m here to listen if you need a shoulder to lean on in these scary times. My asks are wide open and my messages are as well. I hope everyone has a good day, or night depending on when you’re reading this and May the force be with you and your loved ones, always.

A sex education instructor with Planned Parenthood of the St. Louis Region and Southwest Missouri is among 10 teachers across the country to make Time magazine's Innovative Teachers list, chosen for making a difference for their students in a unique way.
Willow Rosen, who uses the pronouns they/them, teaches a curriculum that covers topics like anatomy, hygiene, puberty and sexual consent while being sure not to exclude anyone based on their sexual orientation or gender identity. The lessons can be geared toward those in kindergarten through college.
The magazine called Rosen's shame-free and inclusive approach "revolutionary" in the United States, where sex education is often either not taught or sticks to abstinence-only messages.
Missouri is one of 26 states without a sex education requirement for schools. Missouri only requires "health education" that includes HIV/AIDS prevention. When sex ed is taught, state law only requires that it be "medically and factually accurate," include instruction on consent and present abstinence as the preferred choice.
Rosen is also working with the Metro Trans Umbrella Group to develop a curriculum specifically for transgender students. The team is hosting its first course next month at the MTUGroup headquarters in St. Louis.
"Willow's work is breaking ground outside of traditional educational institutions that have historically excluded Planned Parenthood's innovative curricula in the state of Missouri," the Planned Parenthood affiliate said in a press release.
Many area schools use Thrive St. Louis — a Christian organization consisting of clinics that use controversial tactics to discourage women from having abortions — to teach its Best Choice "sexual risk prevention" program in schools for free.
Best Choice came under fire five years ago by parents who said the program lacked transparency, used shame-based lessons and failed to include information students need to have lifelong healthy relationships.
Rosen said being recognized by Time is an important step in recognizing gender-expansive students."
We are proud to represent our diverse identities in the communities we serve," they said. "Our program works to heal some of the wide-reaching disservice and stigma related to sex education. Our education prides itself on honesty, evidence-informed or evidence-based practices."
Comprehensive sexuality education has been shown to help youths to delay sex, reduce the number of sexual partners and increase condom and contraceptive use.
Research suggests promoting abstinence-only outside of marriage while withholding information about contraceptives does not delay sex, and can actually place young people at increased risk of pregnancy and sexually transmitted disease.

I have a question, my girlfriend just got off her period yesterday. Today we did it but before it I had butted on myself and I’m not sure if I wiped the cum off but I then put my penis inside of her for 10 sec. What are the chances of pregnancy.
Thank you for asking this question! Semen typically dies within 30 minutes of landing on skin or hard surfaces. However, depending on the timing, if you’re unsure if you wiped all the semen off, it’s possible that some semen was left on your penis and could have gotten inside your girlfriend’s vagina. Any time semen enters the vagina, there is a risk of pregnancy.
Because this happened within the last five days, your girlfriend can use emergency contraception to prevent pregnancy. There are three different types of emergency contraception – Plan B, ella, and the non-hormonal IUD.
Plan B is a pill that prevents ovulation, or the release of an egg from the ovaries. It can work for up to five days after unprotected vaginal sex, but it becomes less effective the later someone takes it. Plan B is available over the counter and online without a prescription, but it’s most effective for people who weigh under 165 pounds. Plan B costs around $40-50 per pill.
ella is a more effective emergency contraceptive pill that works for up to five days. It doesn’t lose effectiveness over the course of those five days. However, it does require a prescription, and it’s most effective for people who weigh under 195 pounds. ella costs around $50 per pill.
The copper IUD is the most effective type of emergency contraception, and its effectiveness doesn’t change depending on how much someone weighs. It works because the copper affects how the sperm move, making it impossible for them to reach an egg. The copper IUD does have to be inserted by a doctor or nurse within five days of having unprotected vaginal sex. It can then continue to work as a contraceptive method for up to 10 years. The copper IUD costs anywhere from $0-1,300 depending on insurance plans.
Planned Parenthood is a good place to start if you’re looking for these options at a lower cost.

Fairview Heights: 317 Salem Place
Exit 12 off interstate 64; it's on a frontage road; directly nearby there's a couple hotels, an antique mall, and a couple restaurants, and fairly close there's a bigger mall, several more hotels, and several more restaurants - you are about 10-20 min away from most St Louis attractions as well and it's cheaper in general to stay in IL- ppl have done that for decades

Researchers from the Urological and Kidney Institute at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation and the Case Western School of Medicine sought to quantify, for the first time, the rising number of vasectomy consultations and procedures that clinics and other health care providers were seeing after the landmark Supreme Court ruling.
There was a 35 percent jump in consultation requests and a more than 22 percent increase in actual vasectomy consultations when comparing those figures before and after the Dobbs decision, according to the study released in February. The researchers also found that the number of “men under 30” and “childless men” seeking vasectomy consultations had increased after the Dobbs decision as well. Providers in Missouri saw a similar spike in appointments for the procedure, said Dr. Margaret Baum, who serves as the medical director at Planned Parenthood of the St. Louis region in Southwest Missouri and is still working to make vasectomies available to those unable to afford or access them.

Missouri Republican Proposes Antiabortion Bill That Would Literally Kill Pregnant People | Vanity Fair
For those who are unaware, an ectopic pregnancy occurs when a fertilized egg implants and grows outside of the main part of the uterus. These types of pregnancies are not viable, and will never result in the birth of a child—ever. Meanwhile, if left untreated—i.e. if they are not terminated—they can kill the woman carrying the pregnancy; according to the International Journal of Women’s Health, they are the number one cause of death in the first trimester. So it’s pretty crucial people with ectopic pregnancies to receive abortion care, and when we say pretty crucial, we mean life and death—and if that’s not enough to make you say, “Okay, fine, I guess we’ll allow it,” recall that no baby is ever going to be born regardless.
Unfortunately for the women of Missouri, Seitz apparently has no idea how modern medicine works. On Wednesday, he insisted that doctors don’t have a way of determining if a pregnancy is ectopic, and are just performing abortions for the hell of it. “They don’t have the hospital machinery to tell if this is an ectopic pregnancy,” Seitz falsely claimed. “They might just think it’s a normal pregnancy, and they want to abort that child. I would like to see that sort of unlawful activity stopped.” (This kind of ignorance is stunning, though, to be fair, we’d place it at a close second to the kind displayed by the Ohio legislators who thought you could “reimplant an ectopic pregnancy,” and that doctors who did not attempt this procedure, which does not exist, should face charges of “abortion murder.”) In a statement to Newsweek, Dr. Colleen McNicholas, chief medical officer for Planned Parenthood of the St. Louis region and southwest Missouri, said: “This is what it looks like when uneducated politicians try and legislate our bodies. Ectopic pregnancies, if not treated promptly, become life-threatening. Banning any provision of care related to ectopic pregnancies will put people’s lives at risk."
